David Smith is on the verge of self destruction. Drawn into his dream world by a darkness he cannot detect, he unknowingly opens the door to the other side. As the darkness begins to consume him, he becomes less and less human. Under The Blue is a story of two brothers caught in the middle of a timeless war between good and evil. As the story unfolds, they will soon learn what it is like to be only human. This is the first of seven books in The Blue Series. I am currently working on the last book, Volume 7, due this Summer, 2014.
The story for The Blue Series was first created in my head as a teenager growing up in Oceanside, California during the mid-eighties.
After graduating from SDSU as a registered nurse, I married, had two children, and raised a family after relocating to Boise, Idaho where I currently reside.
After so many years had passed, one day I decided to write a single page of the story. It then turned into a novel. Not realizing the story was so big, I wrote a second Volume. Forced to split Volume 2 into two parts due to its size, I continued to write Volumes 3 and 4 during the years 2006 through 2009, but the story still wasn't finished. After taking a break, I wrote Volumes 5 through 8 in the last two years, completing the series in late 2014.
The Blue Series by Josephine Dillon is FREE on Amazon right now. I just picked up all 9 books for FREE! I have not read this series yet nor have I read anything by this author, but I did have them all marked as "to read/maybe" so there was something about them that made me say "one day."
I could not find a single link to take you to the series, but I did sort the authors page on Amazon so the "lowest" price shows up first. Make sure to pay attention to what you click so you don't accidently buy something that isn't free.
This is a review for SN Book Reviews. This book was very different from what I normally find myself reading. I’ve never read something with this much of a religious undertone while still exploring m/m relationships and such a dark main character. That being said, I find myself asking when I can read the next one! It was a very well written story and I loved the development of the relationships in the book. The relationship between brothers David and Dillon was probably my favorite. Really watching their whole family dynamic and how much the two relied on each other and grew together was amazing. I also enjoyed the relationship between Asmodeus and David, as well as watching Esmeralda during the developments there. The beginning of the book read a little slow, but honestly, I’m kind of glad because that gave me time to really get to know the characters and get my mind set around their world. Especially with the constant switching of point of view, the beginning let me set myself up inside the book so I was ready to follow the story. I loved the ending of the book and cannot wait to find out what happens to David and to Dillon. While I recommend this story to many … it is not for all. You need to be open minded and ready for a dark read with homosexual situations, definitely not a book for young readers who aren’t ready for a very mature story.
I absolutely love this series. I have read all 6 books and I am eagerly awaiting book 7. I love the struggles & adventures of the two brothers David and Dillon. Their love for each other survives many obstacles even when being tortured by devils. Homosexuality does not bother me even though I am straight. But there is straight love, sweet and tender. There is loads of Good against Evil. Demons and Angels. hehe and the Angels mmmm lets just say they can sometimes get up to mischief themselves. A must read for Fantasy lovers that don't squirm and get all het-up on Religion or Homosexuality.
While I am, admittedly, not a religious person, reading this book felt like sitting through a very long hell fire and brimstone church sermon. First, there is no male/male relationship in the book. The only instance of a m/m physical nature was a kiss forced upon the main character, Dillon, by the upstanding clean-cut football player, Tommy. Dillon is horrified and struggles to get away. Second, there were gay stereotypes such as flaming, effeminate Jose and Joel who was homeless and struggling with self-identity (which ends tragically). There was also the closeted gay football bully that cops a feel on Dillon who, again, is horrified and has to get away. It left a very religiously judgmental after-taste that being gay is something to be scared of and shunned. However, that could also be said of the many heterosexual erotic encounters in the book that involved violence against women and the (almost) sex between minors. Beyond the obviously disturbing behavior of some of the characters, everything seemed to be judged negatively through the religious lens. Maybe this was the author's intent or just my perception.
I may read the second novel since it was free on iBooks but unless it takes a significant turn toward more acceptance I will not continue with the series.
The book was well written and actually had an interesting story but was side tracked by overwhelming religious dictums on life and death. Maybe there could be an atheist version?
Allow me to begin with, I was able to buy this ENTIRE series for $0.00 as a kindle e-book. I mean WHAT!?! That alone intrigued my cheap mind, but then to discover that it was an urban fantasy, young adult (more adult), M/M romance (kind of) series, that deeply contemplates the blurred line between good and evil and light verse dark, just thicken my initial interests.
To be honest, I was a little unsure where this book/series was going at the beginning. This may have been my new book jitters, too soon to fully commit, or it might have simply been slight confusion for the first few scenes of the plot (you decide). Once the story moved forward it just never stopped giving you more. The darkness of this book had me reminiscing of my days as an emo kid (I mean this as the highest compliment because I honestly thought those feelings were forever gone). I can understand how the black drama of Under the Blue may not appeal to everyone. At times the story can appear pretty bleak, but there is always a light situation (brotherly connection, new crush or romance, etc...) to keep the heavy stuff from crushing the reader.
In conclusion, I absolutely LOVED this entire read. The pace continued nicely from start to finish, always giving a new idea, dooming situation or heart-fluttering romance that had me flying through the 600+ page book. I am already more than 50% finished with the next volume and I am thrilled to have six more books to eat up (all of them being hundreds of pages).
Very interesting story. A little long and I must say that I was bored with some of the ramblings in the Underworld but mostly I enjoyed the story. Great, well developed characters and a twisting, turning plot kept me reading. The cliff hanger ending has me ready to begin the second story of the series.
The book had me torn. Bullying, suicidal thoughts, family turmoil. I wasn't sure halfway through if I wanted to read the other installments, only because I didn't think I would be able to handle the outcome. I found myself praying for fictional characters. (Surely that means there is something wrong with me?) Now that I've finished I want to read the next book. The book is Dark.
I absolutely LOVE the whole series. I know all of the characters personally so of course I'd love all the books! (Well, the way she writes I feel like I know them all lol)
It's Dark, Prodigious, Shocking, Stunning, Unbelievably fascinating yet evil all rolled into one! - Nook Books and More Blog
Under the Blue is a series that pulls you in. It's a long series but the characters must be explained as they evolve in order to understand the story on a deeper level. The details are so deep and enduring yet strong and kick-ass that you can't get enough of it.
It's a story of a much different concept on heaven and hell with such deepest and much research that you respect the author for going into so much detail.
The characters evolve into their own and have such total different freshness about them. You have every paranormal being to man I think in this book. It seems to give care with each character as it evolves. David's character is truly amazing. As he evolves you are drawn to him more and more.
Joel character at first I didn't like him but it's because I seen weakness but as the story evolves you see why. His character molds into an awesome character you'll start cheering for.
Dillon his character you'll love. You'll feel for him with such compassion but as his character grows you'll love it even more because he has a lot more in him of David then you think. I really enjoyed watching their family dynamics and how they nurtured each other and grew.
Azmodeus his character you hate from the start. But as the book moves along you see that this character makes the story that much more interesting and spicy. Then the other characters pull you in as they start to evolve. I can't wait to see what character I'll love next!
This is not a series for young readers or those without an open mind. So keep that in mind when you are scrolling through the reviews.
Love is such a powerful emotion that exist and that explains this through out this story. Showing you that is the battle of time. There are many twist and turns in the story. Perhaps the most I've ever seen in a series. It started slow, but picked up rapidly. Az and David's relationship pulls you in because it's hot yet forbidding and dangerous. I can't wait to see the rest pan out in that. Especially with The Arch Devils side kick vampire witch Esmeralda. She puts a spin of darkness with a bite for sure.
The authors words flow effortlessly off the page and it's easy to follow. You stay focused throughout the book not getting lost like some authors in their adventure scenes. I loved the different characters and they draw you into their world making you feel as though you are really their. Thanks Ms. Dillon for one hell of a ride.
What an amazing story. He book brings you to so many places it is like a roller coaster .there where times when's he storyline was so unsettling (being the desperate romantic I need to be) I wanted to throw it away yet it was gripping. The way that characters are developed and portrayed and treed can be disturbing and yet I do feel there is a sense of good winning out over bad eventually. This is why I have persisted with it and am now start book 2. I read these books on e-books and have not been able to find the the remaining 6 but I will persist. Josephine Dillon with only 150 pages into book two, you are a brilliant story teller. I am amazed how you a taking the characters, I only hope that this is persistent throughout all eight books. Thanks for writing them. I look forward to each book. I could go on and on about book one and the characters and journey. Some of the twists and turns I did not like and do not understand where y are going with some - but that is part of the pull of these books. One minute I like the character and the next minute I am not sure. I suspect that along the journey with your books I will be disappointed with how some characters that I like end up, not only that they end up at the wrong end of he whose name we must not mention, is that the souls that could and should be potentially good take a turn to being bad. Sometimes there is so much negativity in this world and in stories I wonder if it was necessary. I am rambling but that is what this series of books is doing to me. What will I do after book eight? Thanks
While the grammar is sometimes poor, and descriptions sometime aggravate me, I find myself on the 6th book of this series, despite telling myself at the middle of every book that *this* one will be the last.
It was a big departure from my regular type of books I read but I liked well enough that I've read the whole series. I'm going to comment about the series as a whole. I've not read the M/M gay romance element before and there is a violence/rape element that left me a little off kilter but I could deal with it. I found the idea of the "good" angels being so sneaky and quick to follow their own agenda's and not caring about their loyalty to God much more bothersome. Again, all that said, it was well enough written, the characters brought to life enough to involve me in their futures, that I did want to keep reading just to see what would happen and to cheer on Dillon and hope he could save his brother David.
At first I thought of putting this book down because of all of the religious over-tones. Holy hell, are there a lot of them. But, what kept me interested was David & Dillon. I like the whole paranormal/fantasy part of the book. I like the connection between the two brothers. I hate their father. I was glad to see their mother finally got a backbone. Their other siblings were irritating, except Samantha. We didn't hear much about her. I felt bad that the boys are so misunderstood. That whole church/school/PRISON thing...would be my hell on earth. Scary.
There is alot of writing that hints at and suggests male/male activity and one scene that is borderline Male/ underage male rape. I mention that because I personally would have liked to know beforehand as it was very distracting to come across.
Interesting storyline but felt the character development was lacking. I couldn't connect with any of the characters. The story is told using several POV's and the author did a really good job with transitioning.
