----------------------- RECOMMENDED READING ORDER
The Veredian Chronicles share a world with my Braxians series. It is recommended to read both series in the following order. Please note that Anton's Grace is a dark romance not suitable for sensitive readers. It could be skipped and you will still be able to enjoy the rest of the series. But the other Braxians books are needed to better appreciate the overarching story of the Veredian series.
USA Today bestselling author Regine Abel is a fantasy, paranormal, and sci-fi junkie. Anything with a bit of magic, a touch of the unusual, and a lot of romance will have her jumping for joy. She loves writing hot alien warriors meeting no-nonsense, kick-ass heroines. Her novels are steamy, action-packed, and with the twists and turns you never saw coming.
Before devoting herself as a full-time writer, Regine had surrendered to her other passions: music and video games! After a decade working as a Sound Engineer in movie dubbing and live concerts, Regine became a professional Game Designer and Creative Director, a career that has led her from her home in Canada to the US and various countries in Europe and Asia.
I had a bit of a love-hate relationship with this book. The romance was a bit of a mess and at times suffered from some major purple prose problems. I did however, enjoy much of the political drama on Sarenia and the plots and the subsequent foiling of said plots.
But the beginning was so boring. Please for the love of Goddess stop with the exposition if you are going to have a sexy scene, choose one or the other, you can't have both. Exposition is not sexy!!!
Also Zerien was way too precious about finally giving in to intimacy with Siona because she was an 18 year old virgin while Zerien had slept with countless females since the ripe old age of just 11 years old.
Siona on the other hand, was very much infantilized. I was rolling my eyes every time she was asked if she was "really"sure about her own sexual desires and then interrogated about her decisions to act on those desires.
The whole idea of him expecting her to be a timid skittish virgin ?? Why? Please leave that trope for historicals where women were not given sex education or agency of their own bodies. And then don't call Siona a child just because she isn't ready to start popping out your tadpoles.
Also getting Siona to agree to all of your demands while she was still an actual child has a name ....I wonder what that is... Oh yeah. Grooming. Because you groomed her. Then got mad when reality hit and she gained the maturity to realize that what you are asking for is not for her.
Warning: Rant Incoming
It's like Zerien was trying to speed run parenthood, Elon Musk style. He conflated permission to finally sleep with Siona as permission to also knock her up and completely lost his mind when he discovered that she was on birth control. I found it so strange that Zerien was reluctant to initiate Siona into a physical relationship lest he accidentally coerce her sexually (taking away her agency), but had zero qualms insisting that she start breeding his heirs on his timeline - like right away, right now, but ideally should have been yesterday. (like 6 years ago when he was 15 & she was only 12, barf)
I think I would have lost my temper too, if I was Siona. Her reaction is sadly later walked back as "her insecurities" getting the best of her instead of being justifiably angry that her fated mate only thinks of her as a trophy wife with a womb. (His thoughts, not mine)
The fact that she received little hands on training in Sarenia for her potential future job as queen did not seem like a kindness to me at first. BUT now knowing that the children not only become sexually active on his planet around 11 years of age ..when the intergalactic age of consent is 16 btw, they also don't seem to understand the concept of safe sex. ..I can see why her parents kept her far, far away.
Also. Don't do that. Don't be creepy. Why write about a race that sexually matures more quickly when you know that is a IRL justification used by predators for the abuse of children. ("They're so mature for their age" 🤮) Nope. Just nope.
Also, really Zerien? You would rather have a walking womb than a warrior queen on the eve of battle? I do feel like your culture is a bit messed up when it comes to priorities if you think your children should be having children. But that's okay! Because they don't raise those children anyway! They are raised by older adults in orphanages (sorry adoption centers 🙄) until some stranger adopts the kid.. And then you find them again randomly based on a feeling and only after they have spent the majority of their short childhood with strangers. That's just messed up dude.
So yeah, Elon, sorry Zerien, doesn't take too kindly to finding out that all of his swimmers' efforts have been for naught up until this point and he is so very hurt, and betrayed and angry that she just isn't pregnant yet. He needs two. TWO heirs. ..within their first year of being a married couple. When Siona points out that they are not married yet, and that she wants more time together before raising their children herself, he gets big mad. He says a bunch of emotionally and verbally abusive crap, calls her a child, stomps his foot and uses his power of mind control on her to prevent her from leaving the room and then storms out...into his ship..back to his planet. Without her. Oh yeah, but not before telling her that he is off to knock up other women to get his all important heirs.
Also he shot himself in the foot politically by arriving home without her yet everyone blamed poor Siona for this?
To be honest, at this point of the book, I was really tempted to DNF. I kept reading out of morbid curiosity because I couldn't see how he could redeem himself. I mean he had been glaring at her with "contempt" for crying out loud. How can you redeem that? Having contempt for your partner is a relationship death sentence!
But everything turns out totally fine! /s Zerien is talked out of artificially inseminating a bunch of women right away by his dad but only after he checks his planet's orphanages for any of his errant, born out of wedlock children. (Like that makes it better 🙄) He gets an instant kid from the adoption center that he had coincidentally sired with his female best friend when he was like 13. So it's all good! He's ready to make up with his mate now, HE misses her.
He doesn't really truly apologize to her until 72% and because she's so young, she never demands an apology and thought everything was her fault. She had even apologized to HIM initially. Which I thought was unfair. HE left her. HE used his power on her to ensure he could leave her and ran away like the coward he was instead of finishing their argument. He didn't even discuss possible alternatives or compromises. Just 0 to 60, 'Imma gonna go impregnate other women now, byeee" HE called her a child. (And said a bunch of other nasty things) After taking her virginity mind you so I don't know what that says about him. His whole culture is creepy in that respect actually.
So now they are all hunky-dory in love again and his harsh words and the betrayal of using his power over her is glossed over and forgotten. He never apologizes for mind controlling his mate.
Now if you are reading this, you probably think I hated this book. Surprisingly after the first half, I was able to get into it again. The "OW" turns into one of Siona's greatest allies and co-mother to their adorable son Eldrin. (I shipped Siona and Kaelin hard for the rest of the book.) Siona spanks a bunch of people verbally and physically. She is an absolute beast against the traitors. She brings political stability to her good for nothing mate by merely being her awesome self, no tadpoles needed.
So I had a hard time rating this one. I absolutely hated it at first, then I was morbidly fascinated by what would happen next, then surprised and pleased when Siona started finding her own way despite being thrown into the deep end of this very messed up pond.
Things I liked: The touching scene between Kaelin, Siona and Eldrin after a certain medical emergency. What a cute little family they were! 💞
Things I Hated: Zerien, the unapologetic grooming of his mate to be his royal incubator (but not sexual grooming!!! He was super duper sure to ask if she was ready for that 🙄) the fact that the parents of an entire planet abandons their kids and just kind of hopes for the best (Eldrin almost died running into brambles in the river when he was a baby), the fact that the same group of parents were made up of tweenagers and teens? 🤮
Things I disliked:
The very specific phrase "non-negligible girth" is used both by the FMC and the MMC at different times in their own mental dialogue, there was overall very little distinction between the character's voices. There were a rare few times that I had to go back to the start of a chapter to confirm which POV I was currently reading.
The same information that we as a reader have already learned, is also repeated from each character's POV multiple times throughout the book. Other phrases and words are repeated again and again constantly.
The first 70 pages had little to no substance and despite all the sex, there was very little relationship building. I felt that it was very lazy to rely on the off page courtship of the past 6 years that is talked about or referenced to but not shown. (grooming! Cough)
For a guy who is her supposed soul mate, Zerien really doesn't know Siona very well. He underestimated not only her intelligence but pretty much every other major facet of her personality.
Zerien kept consistently comparing Siona's anatomy to that of a human female for some reason, despite neither being from a human culture??? When did he hook up with a human to compare? (pg 315, 73%)
(To be fair, he also compares her downstairs anatomy to getting a handy from the Goddess so ... there is.. that. )
Everyone and I mean everyone kept saying that they didn't initially think Siona was right for Zerien. (And he was surprised that she didn't feel good enough for him? Sheesh. His planet sucks)
I give this book 2.45 stars rounded down. It was all the grooming, guilt tripping and verbal abuse that I couldn't get over.
As much as I enjoyed the previous books in this universe, the author's newer books haven't really been my cup of tea. There was a lot of dry narration and info-dumping in this story, and most of the relationship drama was related to self-confidence. I wasn't a fan of how immature the FMC was at 18 years old and immediately expected to fall into a smutty fated soulbound romance as well as .
Everything was told rather than shown, and I wasn't very emotionally invested in the story. I don't want everyone explicitly saying "I love you" or telling me you love them for X reason, I want to read about it through emotions and actions. While there were some difficulties with integrating the FMC in her new society, all the issues magically worked out without much real effort on her part. I felt like I was reading a history book rather than immersed in a first-person narrative.
I think this book is skippable for the series - the only interesting bit was to the overall war.
This is another exciting installment in the sci-fi romance Veredian Chronicles/Braxians series. It’s book 7 in the Veredian Chronicles but the 11th overall in the author’s suggested reading order.
FMC Siona and MMC Prince Zerien have known they are fated soulmates for years, but now that she’s come of age, they are officially courting. Things get off to a rocky start, however, as she’s not exactly the queen he expected. She is, however, a fiercely capable warrior, a skill that comes in handy when enemies are closing in from all sides.
This book feels a little different from others in the series since the characters already know they’re in love. It almost goes in reverse, starting off spicy, then working through their personal issues and the larger plot. I especially enjoyed spending more time on Zerien’s planet Sarenia and watching these characters grow and mature. We’ve known Siona since she was a child in Krygor’s Hope, and it was wonderful to see her blossom into a strong, capable woman.
I really enjoyed this book. I’m not sure what’s next for the Veredian Chronicles/Braxians series, but I hope it continues.
Spice 4.5/5 Plot:4.5/5 Writing: 4.5/5 My Enjoyment: 4.5/5
I have quite enjoyed this series, but unfortunately I was a bit disappointed in this book.
**potential spoilers** The hero and heroine have known that they are fated mates for 6 years. They will be the king and queen of Sarenia. So why was the heroine not better prepared? How come she didn’t know the cultural norms of Sarenia? Why didn’t she know the politics and the noble families, etc? Why didn’t she have a Sarenian tutor or similar to teach her these things? She seemed really unprepared, and immature in many ways, which didn’t make sense to me, and was not endearing to this reader. Some of the repitition annoyed me too. Yeah she has a magic vagina, we get it, no need to remind me five times 🫣 Also the ending didn’t make sense. Given their skills, the bad guy/girl could have achieved their purpose easily. There’s no way they would fail. At least make the plotline believable!
Romance, adventure - this has it all! What a thrill to be back in this world again! The prospect of Siona’s and Zerien’s story has intrigued me since finding out they were soulmates. I’m thrilled to see the competent warrior woman Siona has become in the interim. There are some wrinkles to iron out in their relationship, but they have some wise advisers to help them out. I think Zerien is brilliant as he works to identify the rebels and their leader. The Sarenian rebels are a serious threat - and who is Dread? I love seeing Zerien and Siona prove their strength against threats, and the strength of their love for each other. Splendid storytelling that leaves me hungering for more in this world! Please?
Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed the book solely because it helped progress the series and the author knows how to tell an interesting story. But him being a manhoe, having a child with OW, her having to be SURROUNDED by people he slept with (and not allowed to have any feelings about that), calling her a child while acting like the biggest one, and ALL blame going on her for his actions on her very valid feelings set a bad taste in my mouth. And I would like to point out that he promised to never use his mind control on her and during their first fight he does.....
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Imperial Fate by Regine Abel is an exhilarating and emotionally charged tale that brings together everything fans of the Veredian Chronicles have come to love: intense romance, political intrigue, action, and heart-stopping suspense. Prince Zerien and Siona’s relationship has been years in the making, and the payoff is every bit as satisfying as you’d hope. From their first meeting as teenagers, their bond has been undeniable, but now, as Siona turns 18, they must navigate a complex political landscape, rebellion, and their own insecurities as they step into their future together. The chemistry between Zerien and Siona is palpable. Their long-distance relationship adds an extra layer of tension, as they both wrestle with the deep longing and anticipation that have built up over the years. Siona, a warrior queen in the making, must prove herself to the Sarenian people and earn their respect, all while trying to embrace her new role and relationship with Zerien. The dynamics between them—intense love, trust, and a series of challenges that test both their bond and their individual strength—make this a truly captivating romance. Zerien’s determination to protect Siona, alongside his sharp intellect as he works to uncover the threats against them, adds depth to his character and makes him an even more compelling hero. Siona’s journey of self-discovery, overcoming the stigma of being an outsider, and asserting her place as a worthy queen, is empowering and inspiring. Together, they prove to be an unstoppable team, but their relationship is tested in ways that make every moment of their reunion feel even more significant. The stakes are high as the rebels, with a mysterious leader known as Dread, escalate their efforts to tear apart Zerien and Siona’s future. The pacing of the book is relentless, filled with plot twists, emotional revelations, and heart-pounding action. Abel’s ability to blend romance with larger political and personal stakes is as impressive as ever. Fans of the series will love seeing familiar characters and witnessing the growth of the world and its complex relationships. Overall, Imperial Fate is an unforgettable addition to the series that’s both epic in scope and deeply personal. The journey of Zerien and Siona is one of love, strength, and overcoming obstacles—both external and internal—that make it one of the standout books in the Veredian Chronicles. With its perfect balance of romance, action, and character development, this is a must-read for fans and new readers alike. I’m already eager for the next book in the series!
Absolutely OUTSTANDING !!!! Excited for what's next 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌠🌠🌠
I am sitting here, ugly crying for many reasons . Mostly , because its the end of the book !!! Also , because it was SO DOGGONE Fabulous !!!!
Siona and Zerien have FINALLY gotten together when she comes of age according to galactic standards. Siona has been mostly raised on Braxia, and so her thinking is that of Braxia, not Guldar. Many have to learn this little tidbit. Zerein has waited , and Waited for his young Queen to ready for all that he and his people need. As the great war approaches, Sarenia must be ready to take their place on the right side of it . Facing incredible odds , these two must face fate together if the outcome will be what everyone is hoping .
This book truly encompasses the research and twisty, turn - y ways that this author thinks . Just when you think you have a handle on what's coming next --- WAMO !!!! You're Wrong !!! A very super duper fantastic addition to this incredible series !!! One step closer to the great war , and ( My Man ) Great General VAHLERYON 'S book !!!! So excited for what is next !!!! This whole series kind of reminds me of the excitement that I had for the Marvel series !!! 😁😁😁
Siona is finally old enough to join her soulmate Zerien. But life as queen wasn't quite what she expected. She and Zerien both figure out that while they have been destined to be together for years, they really don't know each other well. There are also still rebels to flush out and stop before the coronation.
This book is part of a much larger ongoing story ARC and having that background will increase your enjoyment of this story. The world building is well done and the characters are excellent.
This is book seven in the Veredian Chronicles. It is always a pleasure to go back to enjoy all these characters and their growing families. If you have been reading these books you know this union is a big deal because Zerien has been waiting for Siona for like six plus years. Finally their time has come to join with his mate. However, they run into some trouble about their duties and how to balance duties and their relationship. I don’t want to give it too much, so leave it there. Read On!
I will forever wish and hope the continuation of this series with the generations to come along the way from these beautiful creative characters and cultures this author creates with her profound and unique worlds with individualized abilities and characteristics. Love it. Plenty of spice with a plot that teases in the ongoing build throughout each book.
This is first time I mention the great art before a review of the book. It is that good. The book was a shock for me. First time I read a soul match with the couple having a crisis before they marry. Not exactly fond of some his own species acceptance of sexual norms. Specifically age. Still confused by the way they give birth. As well as how her being different will allow her to accept their practices of child rearing.
What an amazing read!! I'm so excited about the continuation of this series. I'm in awe of Siona. She really brought bad ass to the story. Zerian did rub me the wrong way at first, but he really fixed that up later on the story. Communication is always the key to a great relationship and, of course, a great family support with advice. Mrs.Regine, you have outdone yourself on this one, never letting us down. Can't wait for the next book. ❤️
Regina Abel is one of my all-time favorite authors. I’ve read every single one of her books. The Veridian Chronicles is such an excellent and intricately detailed series. It will not disappoint. It has a lot of really interesting parallels and overall it’s just super entertaining! I highly recommend. There are some romance scenes in each of her books so I would suggest for 18 and older.
I hated the way the book started off. Insecurity and doubt plus misunderstandings messed up the month at Venus Hive for Siona and Zerien. By the time they started acting like people in love from different cultures and each gave the other flexibility the book got really good. The surprises rolled out by the “rebels” on Sarenia knocked me off the chair. Are the Titans getting a book? And what about Gaven? Gotta read more Regine Abel!
There are a rare few books that deserve a 6 star rank. This is one of them. I truly ran the emotional gamet that started when he called his bride a child. The audacity! This series as a whole is so well thought out and written,I often wonder how far she has planned these books out. The world building by itself is impeccable.A round of applause for the writer. I can't wait for the next part of this epic journey though the stars and planets.
Oh my gosh what a great story! I just loved Zerien and Siona!! They were just as I had hoped them to be as adults coming together. The supporting characters were so well written and the world building was amazing. The overall storyline is so very compelling and I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I highly recommend this book and this series.
This book went through so many moods, but the well paced plot kept everything smooth and seamless. Siona and Zerien went through so much and grew a lot as people. We saw spicy action and bloody action, the latter a possible taste of the Great War to come in the future. I can't wait to see what Regine Abel cooks up next for this universe.
Another amazing book of Regine Abel, honestly the Veridian Chronicles are one of my favorite series and this book did not disappoint. Always love a warrior queen and FMC, such a pleasure having them kicking ass! Can't wait for the rest of the books!
I loved finally getting this book in the series. This book just put more anticipation on what could happen next. This book was such a sweet romance but also such an action packed story. Great writer
I’ve enjoyed this installment as well as the series, the characters do all the talking.it’s extraordinary how Régine manage to keep us all entertained and enthralled with the storyline. I recommend this book wholeheartedly 👏🏼💯😍😍😍😍💥🔥🔥
A twist so unexpected, so enthralling. Couldn't put it down. Siona does not disappoint. She is tough, smart, a skilled warrior, a badass, will bathe in the blood of her enemies, but is selfless when it comes to protecting those dear to her
This book was an excellent addition to the series, can’t wait for more. Lets hope Dread can be redeemed somehow, because ohhh lord the photo of him at the end had me writing my own stories of him lol !!
I’ve bought every available book in these intertwining series. I enjoy this author’s writing style. The world building, character development, adventure, intrigue, spice, alpha males, kickass women, & HEA.
