Little Nightmare by Melissa McSherry and Dana LeeAnn closes out the first duet in the Wrecked series with a messy, feverish descent into obsession, blurred morality, and madness. 🩸🖤 It picks up right where Carving for Cara left us — with the mask torn off and the truth of Cara’s stalker exposed. Now, Cara is caught between fear and fascination, her boundaries cracking under Rhett’s relentless pursuit. He’s crossed the line — no, many lines — but he calls it fate. She’s his prisoner, his addiction, his “little nightmare.” And in his mind, there’s no escaping destiny. 🌑

───♡─────────────

♡ What I loved most:
• The dedication? Absolutely perfect — “For those who crave what comes after the chase.” It set the tone instantly. 🔥
• The writing has noticeably improved. ✍️
• The blend of horror and spice worked again here; the dark atmosphere added a taste of danger. 🎃
• Cara’s fear felt real. Her panic, disgust, and confusion were painfully believable, and I found myself silently rooting for her to escape. 🖤🏃‍♀️

✘ What didn’t work for me:
• My biggest issue? This book didn’t know what it wanted to be. It started as erotic horror (like book one was) and suddenly decided it was a dark romance halfway through — without a single logical transition. 😩
• Rhett’s obsessive narration gave major Joe Goldberg vibes… and not in the thrilling way. Just in the please-get-a-therapist way. 🫠
• The world logic fell apart. Cara’s windows are boarded up, she’s being held captive, and… no one in the neighborhood notices? 🤨
• The creamed corn scene — I truly have no words. Just tears. It was horrible. 😭🌽
• And that ending… oh, that ending. Absolutely deranged and not in a good way. I’ll hide it behind a spoiler, but it’s bad: It was nauseating and nonsensical.

❀ Overall:
If I could rate the halves of this book separately, the first would get 4 ✧ — dark, thrilling, erotic horror done right. The second? 1 ✧ — an incoherent shift that left me blinking at the pages like, “what just happened?” 😵‍💫
The first half was intoxicating — the perfect blend of obsession, fear, and fire. But somewhere along the way, the story tried to morph into a redemptive dark romance… and lost everything that made it compelling. By the end, the chaos wasn’t delicious anymore — it was just confusing.
Still, I’m stubborn. I don’t like leaving a series unfinished, no matter how bad it gets. So yes — see you on Christmas for Slaying for Sloan. 🎄🔪

"She's broken, just as I wanted, and there's nothing more beautiful than seeing her like this, utterly at my mercy."

He preyed on her once and caught her.
And now he's never letting go.
Rhett's in control.
Cara can deny it all she wants but there is something underneath.
Something behind her eyes.
Something dark. Something that calls to Rhett.
And there's no escaping him.
After all, she's his little nightmare.

"My girl, my little nightmare, is completely unaware of the chaos I'm about to unleash."

I received an advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review.

Pre-Read: I can’t lie, Carving for Cara has been on my mind since I read it last year. It’s one of the books my thoughts often travel back to because it was such a mindf—k. Rhett is one of those unhinged fictional men that’s make you question your sanity in the real world. But as excited as I am, I hope the sequel doesn’t fail me now

——————————————————————

“There’s a fine line between love and obsession, between protecting and controlling, and I’ve crossed it willingly.”

❤︎ star rating: ★ ★ ★ ★
❤︎ spice rating: 3.5 🌶️🌶️🌶️

“You belong to me.  Not just your body, not just your life.  Every.  Single.  Part of you.  Your mind, your thoughts, your soul—it’s all fucking mine, little nightmare.  You’re mine to break, to shape, to own.  And you’re going to learn that one way or another.”

Those last 30 pages. WTH were those last 30 pages? It was a complete mindf*ck. I think this book may have gave me Stockholm’s Syndrome
Although this book didn’t necessarily end on a cliffhanger I know this cannot be the end for Cara + Rhett. I’m too invested and I need more.

The beginning of this one was a little slow but the second half completely made up for the beginning pace.

I was looking forward to reading this book because I thought it would make me connect to the characters more than the first one, but that didn't happen. I'd even say the first book was better, because this one dragged on and felt repetitive.

I also didn't end up liking Rhett at all, he annoyed me more than anything. And every time he called Cara "his little nightmare" I wanted to roll my eyes because it happened so damn much, like ok we get it.

As for Cara, her transition from trying to run away, to wanting to stay with Rhett, was so sudden that it wasn't believable. I feel like that could've been developed better.

I'll still give the next book a try and see where it goes, who knows, Sloan's book might be better.

Little Nightmare was packed full of OMG and WTF moments that had me clinging to every page, while intermittently trying to fan the blush from my cheeks. I adore Rhett and Cara!! They really were made for each other and I’d recommend this book to anyone looking for a dark and twisty read that happens to be great for this time of year (fall).
As always, make sure this is the right book for you as a reader. Mental health matters!

“This is a nightmare I’m not going to wake up from. This is my reality.”
“Such a sweet fvcking nightmare.”
“I’m not sure if he’s trying to scare me or turn me on.”
“This? This is only the beginning.”

I loved this book! Carving for Cara was amazing and somehow this one was even better!

The book picks up right from where the first one ended, and I loved reading about Cara’s reaction to her gift and what was going through her mind in that moment.

The book is again told in two POVs and I think the dual-POV storytelling worked perfectly for the story. I was equally interested in both of their thoughts and feelings.

The relationship development between Cara and Rhett was so good and I loved their banter & dynamic. There were some really funny moments that made me chuckle. And the spice was spicing!

The storyline itself was great and kept me engaged. I couldn’t put the book down and read it in one sitting.

I already loved Rhett after reading CFC and this book made me love him even more. I would love to read more about him and Cara in the future!

Please check the trigger warnings before reading! Your mental health matters

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.

2.75? 2.5?… Did I read the same book as y’all because…. I feel vastly out rated… so let’s get into it.

First, let me just say I REALLY wanted to like this book. The first one, while it had its issues, was wildly entertaining and had some creative 🌶️🥵🌽 scenes! So I was sure this one would be just as wild and creative. I was wrong. 😪

Here’s what I did like:

👍🏻 It did stay true to how crazy the MMC Rhett is. He is clearly unhinged, has psychotic tendencies & control issues. Giant red flag. But he’s supposed to be and I appreciate that. He’s also completely loyal and crazy about Cara.
👍🏻like the first there were some gruesome murder scenes that go along with the vibe of this. Ones that had me like okay girl! 🫣👏🏼 Knew Cara was a secret freak
👍🏻As expected Rhett is well… endowed, has a pierced 🍆, and is rough in the sheets. There’s a graphic blood play scene that matches the vibe of the first book.
👍🏻 Friendsgiving surprise ingredient 😂👏🏼
👍🏻Rhett being extra attentive with the location for the end of the book & his life with his girl

Okay, see? I’m not completely tearing this book down. Now, let’s get to what I didn’t like:

😪Felt a bit underwhelming. After the chaos, gore, and complete absurdity of the scenes in the first book I felt like this book was lacking in creativity. It’s like they used all the unhinged sex scenes in the first and then said it’ll be fine he’s pierced let’s just have him do her from behind a bunch of times 🙄

😪 Which brings me to yes, I felt the sex scenes were repetitive and just… boring in comparison to the first book and what I imagined could play out in this one

😪 Repetitive scenes: just like the first book there are phrases, sentences, and thoughts that are repetitive. To the point I started skimming some of the paragraphs.

😪Confusing turn of events/actions for Rhett. In the first book he was cocky, gave no Fs, and wouldn’t take no for an answer. I mean hello…. Corn scene & pumpkin patch scene. Then in this book we’re 60% in and he still hasn’t “claimed” her again… he’s “holding out” so we’ve had some hand stuff and oral… wtf? Seems out of character.

😪The instant switch of Cara’s feelings towards Rhett. She’s constantly planning to escape and then all of sudden, literally a page after she’s planning another run, she decides he’s it for her and literally throws herself into danger for him… it just felt… forced and not timed right.

😪what’s up with all the scenes that didn’t happen but are glossed over? He mentions “punishing her” and how she liked it and I was like wait when did that happen and why didn’t we get a detailed scene of it? There was one punishment scene…which wasn’t all that crazy…

So yeah overall I would drag it was underwhelming, confusing, the development of the characters didn’t seem genuine & sadly…boring spicy scenes other than the one with 🍷

Why was this even better than the first book and why did I kind of love this? 👀

okay okay, so, hear me out. I know this is totally and completely unhinged and toxic and the mmc has major issues (I mean I guess they both have lol), but why was this kinda... sweet? 😂😂😂

The touch her you 💀 vibes are huge, the level of crazy through the roof, especially when it comes to... carving up and... "decorating" people. 🙃
But I guess they kind of meet each other of this level of totally deranged and they are definitely meant for each other in all the right ways and I kind of loved how twisted in the head they both were. 😂

The scene with Emily had me on the edge a little, because they went wayyyy too far for my tastes, but I guess I liked that Emily got what she deserved in the end. 😂 Make of that what you will lol

I'm still glad this was just a book though. lol Don't worry. 😂

This was the perfect sequel to carving for Cara! Thank you so much Melissa and Dana for giving me the chance to arc read this book 🖤 i loved every second of it !

If you’re a fan of the stockholm synchrome trope, dark romance novella, morally pitch black mmc, golden retriever serial killer, branding, dub-con, biker, touch her and die, spooky season vibes, and jaw dropping spicy scenes... immediately add this to your tbr!!!!

I loved the relationship between Rhett and Cara! He's so unhinged and does some completely questionable and out of pocket things.. but OMG do I love him?!! Mans had me in a chokehold since book one 😩😭 he's so possessive and completely obsessed with Cara. I literally ate it up. cara is just as down bad for him … like who wouldn’t be 🫠 miss girl marched his crazy PERFECTLY!! and if course THE SPICE HAD MY TOES CURLING 🧎🏻‍♀️ i couldn’t get enough and i never want to leave the story of rhett and cara !

there’s not much i can say without spoiling it, but let’s just say i was going FERAL in those last few chapters 😮‍💨

I have been eagerly awaiting this book ever since finishing Carving for Cara, and it did not disappoint! Little Nightmare is the second book in the Wrecked duet and is a full-length novel for Rhett and Cara. This book picks up right from where Book 1 left off. I loved the story so much. Rhett and Cara’s journey together is truly unique. I especially loved Rhett, he really is the most adorable psycho with his cute little art projects he makes for Cara. The ending of this book was truly satisfying. Little Nightmare is a dark romance, and it is much darker than Carving for Cara (so do check your TW beforehand). Thank you, Melissa and Dana, for bringing us Little Nightmare, I will never look at corn the same again! xo

“I thought he was nothing more than a monster, and maybe he is one, but he’s my monster.  I watched him, learning his monstrous ways, and now I’ve caved, succumbing to the darkness to fit in right beside him.  Rhett didn’t break me. He found me.”

Omg 😱 I’m in love with this book !!! It picks up right where we left off In craving for Cara and we get to see Cara’s reaction to her “gift “ that was left for her and see her go through her emotions with it!

After the pumpkin patch Rhett locks Cara in her own house and continues to take care of her!! It comes to a time where Cara can escape but Rhett has already killed for her ones will she be next ?

After Cara lets her feelings come out and the dark side of herself come out her and Rhett are so good together!! He even let her tattoo her name on his 🐓!! Now that love or possession either way I’m here for it !!

Loved this book so glad we were able to see what happened after the first !!

4.75 ⭐️

This was the second book in the Wrecked Series, and it picks up right where Carving for Cara ended… with Cara reacting to the “Jack-o-Lantern” that Rhett left for her. And that’s the least crazy thing he did in this book. Cause that scarecrow he made? 😮‍💨

Rhett is still as dark and fucked up as the first book, and like any fictional man, I absolutely loved it. I really loved how we got to see Cara and Rhett’s relationship grow in this book. He may have locked her in the house, chained her to the bed, and drugged her to keep her from running, but in the end, they learned to trust each other in their own fucked up ways. Because after all, Cara is just as dark as Rhett, she just didn’t know it yet 😈

Also I will be giving creamed corn the side eye for the rest of my life now 👀

PUH. LEASE. First and foremost, I respect anyone who has the courage to write their book and leave it to the criticism of others- and I have only ever given a handful of 1-2 star reviews. This review however, is unhinged. The corn in Carving for Cara was already enough, like be so for real… any man accosting me to shove a cob down my throat is getting one h3ll of an amen, lmao. And the cream corn in this book? Ya lost me dog. After 147 of absolute dumpster fire repetition, it felt like I was in a bad time loop of these authors worst works. It was so boring that even my triggers didn’t trigger. Literally. I’m at a loss of how such amazing women got together and said “yeah, makes me want a corn cob real bad” and booktok and booksta ate it up… NO CRUMBS AND FOR WHAT. This may be the book that makes me never trust a social media review again.

It’s good to know I’m not jaded by all of the dark romances I’ve consumed and am still able to be shocked while reading. Literally hand covering my mouth in the opening scene. Which picks up right after the first novella where Cara finds the carving Rhett left on her front porch.
Rhett continues his pursuit of Cara and showing her how they’re perfectly made for each other and no one else understands their needs.

The trigger warnings for this novella was longer than the first and the authors warned it contained dark topics. I was warned and yet I was still surprised at how dark it was LOL

I feel like the concept of this book was to show that Cara also had dark tendencies and Rhett helped her embrace it. Which is what i gathered by the end but the story lacked the buildup for me. While in Cara’s POV I felt like she was genuinely scared and trying to escape him, not really enjoying a fantasy. Which this is a very fine and blurry line in dark romances. I know it’s a novella which doesn’t give much time for the love to develop, and I can over look that if it felt more like instant love on both ends. I don’t like feeling like I’m reading horror rather than someone finding a trusting person to play out some wild/dark fantasy.

Rhett was too overbearing and suffocating for me to like in this novella. And he wasn’t funny like in the first one. Just straight up mean and controlling. Idk. Maybe I’m over analyzing a short story. The ending was crazy enough for me to believe that, yes Cara was meant to be with him, but it came out of nowhere. AND I find it hard that she would abandon Sloan. AND why did no one ask about the bruising on his face??

Lastly, again, I will never look at corn the same.

this book picks up right where ‘carving for cara’ left off. rhett basically kidnaps cara and holds her hostage in her home. however during this time they get to know each other better and cara realizes she’s equally as deranged as rhett, so ig in a way they are perfect for each other. i liked the first book better bc rhett’s inner monologue was funny, he was so delusional and i just had to know where this went and ofc i needed to kno what cara’s reaction was to his surprise gift. this book surprisingly had a few cute moments in it as well, like them playing the card games together. cara mentions how rhett takes care of her and does anything to make her smile, which was cute. however, i really didn’t like the ending to this book, everything else was good, just didn’t like that cara shared rhett. like girl if your jealous why are you gonna share him?? gross. anyways, some of my fav quotes were:

“she’s perfect, even in her brokenness. fuck, especially in her brokenness.”

“we’re going to build something beautiful together, cara.”

“you’re so fucking beautiful, the prettiest nightmare. a work of art.”

“kill you? no. i intend to keep you, cara.”

“they can beat me to a fucking pulp, but as long as she’s safe, i’ve won.  i’d sacrifice myself a thousand times over if it meant keeping her out of their hands.“

“fight smarter, not harder.”

“run, little nightmare. you better be fucking running.”

“you can’t run from me, little nightmare. not anymore. we belong to each other, and you know it.”

“my girl is beautiful like this-a walking, breathing fucking nightmare. mine.”

“my little nightmare and me.”
