Major construction disrupts more than Ray Hooker’s life; it rattles his small town with a secret.

As sexy genius Eric Ridgeway continues building his state-of-the-art think tank, the town’s shifter population is terrified their identities will be uncovered by the group of incoming scientists. When fear drives vandals to slow construction, Ray helps Eric defend his property. Their relationship heats up and, in order to protect Eric, Ray reveals that he’s a bear shifter.

Now, not only is his secret out of the bag, but Ray needs to decide if loving Eric is worth the risk of discovery by other scientists. None of that will matter if their newfound attraction can’t outlast fear, lies and distrust!

Ugh! This was bad on so many levels.

Stilted and cheesy dialogue. Sex scenes with no chemistry and no tummy butterflies whatsoever. Ray is a bear shifter and Eric is a geeky scientist. Very stereotypical and as a biologist, I can tell you that the whole thing was so fake and vague.

I called this one quits at only 25%, so no real rating. This reads like a very amateur fanfiction written by a 12-year-old. It's very awkward to read something that sounds like it's written for a young adult audience when all you're really looking for is fast smut. Not for me.

Nice and different with the plot and the on MC who is a bear shifter. I liked the chemistry and I hope in the next books we get a larger insight of the "rules" of the shifters, I need a bit more background.
Despite those small missing parts the book was sexy, hot and with two nice MC.

4 out of 5 stars. :)
I'm looking forward to read a second book.

My biggest complaint was that I didn't get any chemistry between Ray and Eric. I also thought that the story was rushed, and I would have liked more with the shifters too.

Eric moves in and starts building a think tank. He is met with resistance from the locals but not only because he is a stranger in a small town. He meets Ray and chemistry blooms between them. There is tension when Eric finds out the town secret of shifters. With the help of Ray, Eric manages to win the town over plus get a boyfriend.

So, I like Cheryl Dragon’s writing: quirky characters, usually with a relevant ‘mission’ or life goal, and she uses the small town feel to great effect: having spent much time in a small town, I see many of her “everybody knows who you are and you don’t belong’ sort of attitude.

In the first of her new Geeks in Nature series, we meet Eric, a wealthy son of a prominent politician, Eric was given control of his money early, to pursue his own interests far from his family. Eric’s passion is the environment, and finding a way to have corporate interests do ‘good’ for the environment even if they don’t necessarily understand that they are doing it.

With this in mind, he decides to settle in Bear Cove, Maine: a small and rather remote area that is rather protective of their town and residents. The acreage that Eric has purchased to locate his think tank is investigated by Ray, owner of the local hardware store and general protector of his town. And did I mention this is a town full of Bear Shifters?

Eric and Ray are instantly attracted, but both are particularly snarky and verbally combative, neither quite confident in the other’s agenda or purpose. Yet their chemistry is off the charts hot to each of them, and leads to several steamy sexy encounters.

I liked but didn’t love these characters: they both seemed to need some flushing out and emotive description rather than being told that they think, feel, did sort of thing. Eric claims to be naïve and shy, unable to flirt and too transparent, but a life with a professional politico must have rubbed off as he is also very savvy and canny, and far better at hiding his reactions than he admits to.

The town’s history and interrelationships of the townsfolk is a bit passed through quickly, but we aren’t given more than a brief survey of some of the characters and their relationship and interactions with Ray and Eric. There were several moments when something happened, and if felt as if we were rushed into the explanation in a “we did this and that” sort of way, only to focus on the next issue / interaction. I’m expecting, and hoping that these issues are just indicative of the first in a series, and will be resolved and characters develop and grow as the story moves forward.

A light, non-angsty read with plenty of fast paced action and a relationship that is far less insta-love and much more insta-lust are highlights in this new release.

I received an eBook copy of the title from the publisher for purpose of honest review for The Jeep Diva. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Geek In The Woods is the first installment of the Geeks in Nature series by Cheryl Dragon. As a first book, it immediately gives the reader the feel of a first installment. There are many characters being introduced, the set up of the why and how a certain geek becomes the beloved of a shifter is established, and the town itself is introduced.

Set in the middle of a small town in the middle of nowhere, Eric Ridgeway, geek extraordinaire with a political family background, sets up shop: The Think Tank. It is a facility which will probably drive all geeks crazy with need to maybe to touch the equipment and grant monies. The Tank's vision is to finding politically correct solutions to everyday climate change problems. Solutions that mega corporations will actually use without undermining their own motives of never spending money for the good of the planet. The only hurdle in this task of Eric's is the town itself. Introverted by nature but forced to be out in the open, he strives hard to assimilate into the town's populations without causing much waves. Easier thought and said of than done.

The storyline was..Ok. I Think it was ok. There is something about this that just didn't hit it for me. Perhaps that these two get together and there is really not a lot of friction to build it up. There were also small editing errors that (again) can detract and distract you from the story. That's petty but since I've come to expect that from certain Siren books as of late, I tend to expect the other publishers to do better (they usually do).

Plus most of the Cheryl Dragon books I've read, this just doesn't seem on par with the rest for me.

Also on another note, the two sides of Eric was not received well by me. He is awkward but can be savvy at the same time. Kind of a conundrum to me. Geek tends to bring to mind socially awkward not a kind of smooth talker that Eric displays at times. And to be honest, Ray was perhaps too easygoing. His character feels like a go with the flow too much.

Okay, the good stuff first. The premise of this story was really cute. Eric is a geek through and through. He has grand dreams of coming up with solutions to keep big companies from polluting the planet. He’s highly intelligent, and though he can make small talk with the best of them—he is, after all, a politician’s son—he is afraid of being awkward and shy in a dating situation. And Ray has a heart of gold, wanting to get to know Eric for who he is and still protect the town and its secrets. These two men were great characters. In fact, all the characters here were quirky and endearing.

I love Geeks. Let me start out by saying that! This story was great. Watching a town warm up to a stranger. Seeing a human deal with learning about shifters, it was a nice contrast to the books where everyone just knows. It was great to see Ray try to help Eric fit in. He really tried showing Eric how he felt about him by helping. He coaxed Eric hard to show him he belonged in town.

I found this story enjoyable and sexy as all get out! I'd love to see more of this series! Geeks, hot sexy shifters and some crazy steaming scenes? Yes please! There were quite a few other Bears I'd love to see find someone! This is bound to be a highly favorite series! Who doesn't like a hot Geek?

Interesting premise, but the execution was lacking. Told in alternating third person POVs, it's the story of Eric, a scientist who has just moved to Bear Cove to build a think tank for other scientists who want to study conservation.

Eric meets Ray, bear shifter, at the local gay bar and they hit it off, minus a few snags (finding out your lover is also a bear...), and a tiny mystery is thrown in along the way.

It was a fairly straight forward story, sort of predictable, with a wealth of grammatical errors and POV shifts. There's a distinct overuse of the word "geek". Standard sex scenes that didn't spark much, and a bit of forced dialogue.

I enjoyed this sweet Geek meets the bear shifter story. Ray and Eric had very strong chemistry with each other and Ray began helping Eric get acquainted with the town. They had a few hurdles to get over but once they did they were fantastic and hot together. The characters were well depicted and I'm hoping to read about Thad and Gus (Friends of Rays) getting their forever mates also. This was excellently written and the pace progressed well. I didn't want the angst between Eric and Ray to last very long. Eric could be petty at times. Being open and communicative is very important and once they were open with each other they worked marvelously together. :)

I like this, but I think I wanted more of a background on Bear Cove. How did it come to be? I really liked Ray and Eric. I understand Eric's past, but

I will read more from this series, because I like Bear Cove :) I hope to see more Ray and Eric.

Once I had got into this book I quite enjoyed it. I found it hard to relate to Ray, he was just a bit too distant for me, but Geeky Eric, a scientist trying to distance himself, from his wealthy well known family felt much more approachable and I understood his motivations better.
The plot was enjoyable, the HEA expected for this genre, but somehow I felt this needed a little more. That said, I will look out for other books by this author.

Can their love survive? Fear, lies, distrust and lots of hot sex. A fun read.

Hmm...giving it middle of the road stars because it felt stilted. Also because there's only so many times you can read that a PhD is a "genius" and not start to pull at your hair. And then said PhD starts calling the people who work with him "geeks." I do like it when geeks/nerds find love, but really other than the fact that we find out that the MC is a scientist he doesn't have much about him that screams it. I probably wouldn't re-read.

I have read several of this author's books and liked them, this one was just not up to par. The m/c's statements and thoughts contradicted previous comments and frankly they were annoying. Although it was a short story and relationships move quickly I just didn't get the warm and fuzzier from them.

Very sweet

A quick read that was really sweet. Ray and Eric were cute characters and fun to read about. The pacing was a little quick, I felt that the story progressed to quickly for the storyline itself to be fully developed. So I felt like at points I was getting highlights instead of the story, otherwise an enjoyable read.

Ray enjoys his life in a small, country town as a bear shifter. They are secretive and do not trust many outsiders. Eric is building a think tank near the town and runs into problems with the locals. Ray finds Eric attractive but Eric does not trust easily and can tell Ray is hiding something. A short read. Their argument was explosive for having just met.

I enjoyed this. It was good having a mc not know about shifters and having to deal with this knowledge.
The chemistry was there and I can't wait to read more geek in nature books.
