Growing up, Layla knew she had a biological father, just not anything about him. The day a lifelong friend of her mother's shows up at her work asking many of the same questions, Layla began to doubt everything she knew. Wanting to find out the truth Layla and Gavin embark on their own journey but neither are prepared for what they will find. Things get even hairier when Layla instantly falls for the one person willing to keep their secrets while helping them find the truths they had been denied. Garrett's involvement was to be strictly professional. Unfortunately, his heart has a different agenda and falling in love wasn't a part of it. It most certainly wasn't condoned by Gavin. When Layla spirals out of control, will Gavin be able to anchor her to reality of will he have to enlist the help of the one person he wants to stay away from her -- Garrett.
SHATTERED is the third book in the "Scars Series" and while it can be read as a standalone, it is not recommended and will include spoilers from previous books in the series.
I am an indie author of erotic romance books. My debut novel "Scarred" is currently available on Amazon Kindle as well as available in paperback. "Scarred" is book 1 in the "Scars Series". Book 2, "Wounded by Her" published March 30, 2014 and the reviews received are awesome. The third book in the "Scars Series", "Shattered" is now available on Amazon for Kindle as well as in paperback. All Ebooks by C.R. Gress are available in the Kindle Owners Lending Library (KOLL) as well as Kindle Unlimited (KU).
I am currently working on formatting a manuscript for a fellow author before I finish "Mending the Wounds", the final installment in the "Scars Series".
I am also slowly working on a "Scarred" Novella called "Letters to Aiden" but that is a side job and is not on the immediate release list.
After stressing myself out for most of my life and obtaining three engineering degrees, I decided it was in my best interest, for my health, that I uproot the family and move to the east coast of Florida. Then add to that the fact that I refuse to work in the engineering field rather I wait tables at a local restaurant and write books in my spare time.
I am married with two teenagers and a very spoiled pit bull but we love living at the beach year round. The family enjoys boating, swimming, fishing and more while I enjoy being around lots of different people at work as well as stay in shape with all the running.
I love Rock-n-Roll music and spend a lot of time at concerts around the region. I also love riding Harley motorcycles and can be thought of as the redneck type.
I absolutely loved this book. C.R. Gress is one of my favorite authors and always makes me laugh and cry with her writing. I loved the first two books in the series because I have fallen in love with Jordan and Gavin. In "Shattered" I fell in love with Layla and Garrett. I can not wait to read more of their story. This is a book that everyone needs to read.
This is the 3rd book of this series each one telling part of the same story but from different people. My favorite is still book 2, I did enjoy this one greatly, it was nice to see how Layla handled the issue of who her father was. It must be really hard to find out someone could be your father that you have known all your life. To feel like those important to you have lied to you all your life. My heart broke for Layla.
As for Gavin I do find it hard to believe he didn’t know her birthday. He is close to the family the mother and him are close to best friends and he didn’t know her birthday date? It is just hard for me to believe it just hit him wow she might be mine….I did feel for him, to find out you have a daughter that is 18 must be hard since you have been so close with the mother for over 18 years.
I didn’t understand why his wife was the way she was, I understood why she was the way she was with him but not with Layla. If Layla were younger I could understand why she was threatened by her but not when she was so close to the family that she baby set their children.
It was nice to see that Jace got his act together, he was always a wonderful sweet character. I do wonder if he will be in the next book and if he will cause trouble. I know how much it hurt him to see how Jordan felt for Gavin. It is hard to watch why the person you love loves someone else when they never really loved you.
The book went in a different direction than I thought it would but that made it more interesting. I am really looking forward to reading the next book. It should be interesting to see if her parents finally clean up the mess they made of their life and see if they can work it out. This has been one whirlwind, passion filled series that have kept you on your feet watching a family be torn apart and trying to find a way back to each other.
