This edition is not a full-length novel but the continuation of the original Safe House novella. The new full-lenght novel can be found here
LAWYER BY DAY...BAD BOY BIKER BY NIGHT
Flint knows a smart woman like Kendra would never fall for a man like him. Nothing more than a common outlaw hiding behind a designer suit. A seriously bad guy. As VP of the Steel Infidels, he isn't above doing whatever it takes to protect the MC.
Veterinarian Dr. Kendra Shaw has never ignored an animal in need. When a call comes in about an injured eagle, she doesn't think twice about going alone to a secluded cabin to meet the caller. What she finds there sets her on a shocking path she never could've imagined.
This was a pretty great MC romance book. One thing I like about the MC romance sub genre is that they tend to be very sexy and also have an interesting story as well. If an MC romance is lacking in either area, I won’t give it a high rating. This one had both in spades, though there were a few things I didn’t like about it, though other people might really like the things I didn’t.
This was the story of Flint Mason, a very good lawyer for all intents and purposes, but he works in the public defenders office in order to help people who otherwise couldn’t afford a decent lawyer. Flint gets a call from his brother Jesse, who is president of the Steel Infidels Motorcycle Club. Jesse tells flint that his best friend, Tommy was killed by their rival MC, the Liberators. Flint and Tommy grew up together as friends, then later rode side by side when Flint was a member of the Steel Infidels.
After Flint’s mother died, the family fell apart and Flint moved away and started a new life. Though a lot of people back home were angry at him for leaving the club. That included Tommy and Flints younger brother Sam, who was still under age when Flint moved away. Sam was left to fend for himself while living with their drunk and abusive father.
Flint feels a lot of guilt for leaving Sam and is upset that he never made peace with Tommy, so he moves back home, turning his back on the law and rejoining the outlaw motorcycle club. Months later, flint meets veterinarian Kendra Shaw and falls for her pretty quickly. Kendra is described as having long dark hair and being full figured.
I know it is very popular in romance books lately to have the heroine be a “BBW”. Though I am not one who likes it. One reason is that it is not very realistic since the men are always hot, muscular, with super hard bodies and a nice sized package. I just don’t see many guys like that wanting plus sized women in real life. Sure it does happen but not as often as contemporary romance novels would suggest. I just think if your going to imagine that the guy is so perfect, why not imagine the woman is as well.
I understand that many women are overweight and like their bodies, but that hasn’t been anyone I have ever known. Everyone I know who is overweight hates it and is often dieting. I have been very thin in my life and have been what I would call fat as well, and I like being thin so much better. So that is my soap box and my personal opinion, though I realize a lot of people disagree or BBW books would not be so popular.
I don’t even mind them when they mention it once or twice, but when it is said over and over in a book is when I don’t like it. This book mentions it a lot, though in different ways, like talking about her ample backside, her heavy breasts and large nipples, many times as well as other parts of her anatomy or the fact that she isn’t as thin as the girls that hang around the MC.
Despite those issues I had with the book, It was very steamy. There were quite a few intimate scenes between Flint and Kendra and they were super hot! They both like things a bit rough and I really enjoyed all the scenes between the two main characters. I would give this book a heat index of 5 out of five flames 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. It was definitely in line with a lot of the better MC books I have read.
The storyline about the war between the Steel Infidels and the Liberators was also very good. I know that in these MC novels, a war between rival MC’s is a common theme, but I like how this one played out. I also liked that this book can be read as a standalone. Though I probably will read more of them, since there was really only one thing I didn’t like about the book and that is in the majority of romance books nowadays.
Liberated was the first book in the Steel Infidels MC series by Dez Burke. It was the continuation of Flint and Kendra’s story from the prequel, Safe House. It’s better read in order. I read it as part of the Steel Infidels box set but have provided individual reviews as well.
Liberated picked up exactly where the previous book left off. Although the primary plot was the relationship development, the MC conflict was also front and center. I enjoyed the characters as well as the fast paced action. Because it was so short it lacked a few details that I would have loved to have a deeper dive into; otherwise, it was well written and entertaining with a strong focus on the relationship.
In Book 1 we leave off with Flint and Kendra fighting off the rival MC gang, the Liberators and now in book 2 we pick up from there.
Flint Mason has decided to declare all out war against the Liberators. He tells his brother the only way to be free from them is by annihilating each and everyone of them until no one is left. Flint knows as long as they are still walking around, Kendra is not safe and he decides that breaking it off with her will be the best. He doesn't want her mixed up into his crazy life with the fight they are about to have against their enemies.
Dr. Kendra Shaw is absolutely crazy about Flint, for once in her orderly fashioned life, she has met a man who makes her lose complete control and she loves it. When Flint comes over to break things off with her for her protection, Kendra decides she is not going down without a fight. She want and need Flint, and is determined to make him see they are beyond good together, they are down right brilliant. Flint loves Kendra and she loves him but he doesn't want her life in jeopardy, Kendra knows whats at stake and doesn't care, if anybody dares try to come after Flint, they will have her to deal with and she is not taking any prisoners.
Flint and Kendra are sexy and hot, they are a tamer version of Bonnie and Clyde. They fight to be together and will damn anyone who tries to come between them. Flint also has to come clean about his past on why he left and what brought him back. Now he has another fight on his hands, his brother Jesse has been accused of murder and once again Flint goes into lawyer mode to defend him. Flint worries if Kendra will want to stay with him once he tells her everything and Kendra worries what if he wants to leave her for good this time?
This was a wonderful conclusion to this 2 book series. You will love Flint and Kendra and the secondary characters too. There is suspense, tension, murder, hot sex and a dark element that was only touched upon. All in all it is what you will expect from author Dez Burke, a damn good story that will leave you wanting more and more.
Flint and Kendra's story continues. Flint's MC brothers clears away all the evidence from up on the mountain and he and Kendra continue their journey of learning about each other. When Jesse is accused of killing the woman who gave them the heads up about their rival MC coming for them, she is killed, and Jesse is left as the one the police think killed her. Flint's true identity is revealed, and Kendra is shocked. Will Flint's deception lose him a good woman? This story is heating up and keeps you glued to the paged to see what will happen next!
With there location compromised, Kendra and Flint are forced to flee the safe house with the danger of Liberators trailing them. However, the threat isn’t neutralized and soon they find themselves in a perilous situation that forces Kendra to make a life changing decision.
♥♥♥
This story was definitely superior to the first novella in both storyline and progression.
So, book two kicks off directly where book one ended and it’s an action packed “scene” that I imagine could rival a Mission Impossible movie, with Flint and Kendra fighting for their lives against the Liberators. In this battle of MC’s we’re rewarded to read a rather entertaining fighting sequence, that puts Kendra – the veterinarian – directly into the line of Liberator fire. So instead of being smart and removing herself from the situation with as much adroitness (although I don’t know how much she’d have) she decides to start shooting back…at a rival gang…with a shotgun…while being stuck on mountain…
But somehow I was able to surpass that and continue with my reading and find out that she’d killed a man and didn’t feel bad about it because they were bad people.
*Applies Brakes*
Now, I know that there are some truly horrific people in the world that have done unimaginable wrongs and are clearly hellhound, but any normal human being would still have more emotion towards killing a man than that. The novel literally reads, “Kendra made the conscious decision right then to put it out of her mind and get the hell over it. She didn’t have time for regrets. She always did what needed to be done, and this time was no different than any other. She took a deep breath. Whatever happened, there would be no regrets.” Ummmmm. I just couldn’t get over this for remainder of reading Liberated. Perhaps if Kendra would’ve been a former assassin, or at least apart of a MC I might have been able to let this slide, but Kendra being a doctor that’s never done anything spontaneous or even knew how to shoot a gun, but that’s not the case in this story.
One thing that improved was that the story wasn’t a true erotica like the first one, this installment had much more depth, which was needed in order to receive those 3 stars. So, now Flint and Kendra are dating and they’re all cute and cuddly but Flint, of course, has to break it off with Kendra because this life is too dangerous for her, blah blah blah – the usual. But this really wasn’t a conflict because it literally lasted for two pages and then kaboom, threat neutralized. Ugh there isn’t anything really interesting about the rest of the story, so I just don’t feel the need to keep explaining it because there’s nothing to tell.
Yes, you read that right. An outstanding conclusion to Kendra's story. One minute I was screaming NOOOOO, you can't leave her! But with heads out of a$$, Kendra got her man all to herself.
However, it's not the end of the line. The war is just starting. I have to give author Dez Burke props....!! The ability to keep me reading for more romance possibilities in addition to the mayhem intertwined, very good. I'm just hope it's more big beautiful woman who snags the hero to com.
Alright read, nothing that stands out or pulls you in though. Still not sure about the lawyer thing seems pretty stupid to me. I thought we’d find out how they found out where Flint was but nothing. You get really nothing when it comes to any details about the MC or its people. The book is over before you can
Dr. Kendra Shaw is called out for what she thinks is an animal emergency only to find biker Flint in need of medical care. Kendra is between a rock and a hard place with treating him but she decides to take care of him but never expects to find herself attracted to the man.
There is a lot to Flint that Kendra does not know and he knows she is so far out of his reach it is unbelievable. That being said Flint wants Kendra can eh have what he knows he doesn't deserve or will he let her go?
Quite a bit different for MC series. I liked Flint and you see him trying to renavigate himself into the MC. I do think it might have helped to read book one first as there seems to be some backstory that is touched upon. Great read
I’ve marked this as read but it’s actually the first book in the series I read.
Attorney Flint returns to his MC roots after a rival gang kills his best friend. He meets vet Kendra when he gets shot and she is tricked into patching him up. Instalove and a nice romance despite the challenges of MC stuff in the background.
Well this was at least a little bit better. More in depth about mc instead of just sex like in the first book. You still get some sexy times but there is more of a story (although a small one). But still no character development, they just seemed flat one dimensional. Story gets wrapped up and of course there is a hea, however it still didn't make me want to read more books by this author. Not one I will be recommending to anyone. 2.5 stars
I just finished reading this baby, and I'm all teeth. And breathless. Not unlike the air that tickles the wings of the eagles as they soar high above the mountains, in the final scene.
And what can I say about the talent of Ms. Dez Burke, that hasn't been said before? Very little. But I can talk about her use of visual, gustatory, olfactory, and kinesthetic imagery. I can talk about her use of humor. Property of Flint? Now, that is hilarious; I'm still chuckling at the thought. And I can talk about the romance between Flint and Kendra, that starts in Safe House, the first book in the series (get your copy if you haven't done so, as yet) and which grows and cements itself in this story.
Yes, the sex scenes are peppered throughout the story, but Liberated is much more than an erotic read. I learned about the care of animals, not just dogs or cats that we read about in every other book, but about animals that one may not even give a second thought. It's the first time I read a romance that touches on the care of squirrels, and hawks. This also hints at Ms. Burke's care for such creatures, for all creatures in fact, great or small.
And I got to learn about MC subculture. Who wants to be labeled an 'old lady'? Apparently, many a Sweet Butt, or an aspiring one. To be called such is not demeaning. I never knew that holding such a title is an honorable thing! Wow!
Liberated is certainly an excellent installment of the Steel Infidels series. There is love, laughter, drama and suspense. It also highlights the plight of underage girls who are used as mere pawns.
Of course, I continue to look forward to reading more stories in this series. I still would like to see Jesse get his own story, because he's been through a lot. I would like to see Flint's youngest brother, Sam, settle the heck down. And I would like to see the Liberators get their just desserts.
Liberated is certainly another excellent tale, written by an exceptionally talented author.
Don't waste another second. Get your copy! It's less than a buck. And when you've read it, you'll be pleased to know, it's more than a good investment.
I love both Flint and Kendra they are both well rounded great people who find themselves attracted to each other under very unusual circumstances. Flint wants a chance to have a relationship with Kendra and she gives him that chance, which places them both in eminent danger from the enemy.
Kendra made the decision in Book 1 - Safe House that she is going to stand by her man and if that means she has to kill somebody then she is going to pull that trigger and save her man!! Book 2 kicked off the way I love it with gripping action and Kendra is in the thick of things alongside her man. I love that about her, no-one is taking her man from her without a fight.
Flint: “Why in God’s name did you do that?” .............. Kendra: “You’re my guy..........” Flint: “Yes darling, I am”.
They continue to be honest about their feelings for each other, overcoming all barriers that could prevent their love from surviving.
I loved this story! Both books were gripping and page turners and I would recommend them both. You need to read the books in order to get the full impact of their story! Great read!l
Liberated is the follow up to Safe House which introduced us to Kendra and Flint. The story picks up right where Safe House left off filled with action and suspense as the couple go against the rival MC the Liberators. I loved the Kendra stood by her guy and did whatever she had to do protect him and Flint, willing to do whatever necessary to keep her in his life and safe.
Flint is hot and pure alpha and Kendra is strong and self confident. Together they are a powerful duo with chemistry the is combustible. The loves scenes were hot, hotter and boiling. I will never be able to look at a police station and not think of them again.
Ms. Burke has once again created a electrically charged and sexy story that will keep you engaged from start to finish. I can't wait to read her next one!
Excellent installment to this wonderful Steel Infidels Biker series!!!!! Liberated picks up right where Safe house left off. So there is know need to fret the story continues with the heat, action and passion between Flint and Kendra. In this installment we get to see how much Flint and Kendra really feels about each other and how strong there passion is between one another. I don't want to give to much of the story away so I will end my review by saying if you haven't read this series you are truly missing out on a awesome series. Go grab Safe House first and then follow up with this book Liberated.... As always EXCELLENT JOB DEZ!!!
Liberation! When I heard Dez was going to release a Motor Cycle club themselves book I couldn't wait to see what she'd come up with. Boy was I thrilled with the results. The Steel Infidels story unfolded over two books as we get a look into the behind the scenes inner workings of a motorcycle gang and their rivals The Liberators. I loved Flint and Kendra's story and look forward to Jessie's as well and an update on the finality of The Liberators. Thank you Dez for letting us get a front row seat into their world. We your true fans appreciate the dedication as well.
This was the conclusion to Kendra's and Flint's story. These are great characters that are both extremely likeable. Flint is sexy, protective, sweet and considerate. Kendra is strong, generous, kind and loyal. Together they are perfect for each other.
Some of the Liberators have been taken care of, but not all. The series will continue with Jesse's story next.
loved Liberated. I loved Flint and Kendra in Safe House. I loved reading more about their relationship, and I want to read more. It was nice to read more about Jesse and to see what makes him tick. I hope to read more about Sam and the brother's relationship with their father. I am hoping to read more about the MC and their rivals the Liberators, I want to see how the feud ends.
Liberated is the conclusion to Flint's and Kendra's story from Safehouse by Dez Burke. In Liberated, the couple deals with the rival motorcycle gang the Liberators. Liberated contains lots of action, romance, and great secondary characters. I really enjoyed lawyer Flint and really enjoyed with how they "legally" dealt with some of the Liberator members. Definitely recommend!!!
This was a great conclusion to Safe House. I loved reading how Flint & Kendra relationship progressed in this book. My heart was beating so fast after reading the shoot out between Flint, Kendra & the Liberators. The sex scenes were evening hotter in this book then in Safe House. I can't wait to read Jesse's & Sam's Story.
I really enjoyed this MC series, I guess my one complaint is I want MORE Flint and Kendra!!! I love that Kendra wanted to walk on the wild side and Flint was more than up to the challenge. Very good quick reads.
This was a great follow-up to Safe House. It was a pleasure to read more about Flint and the rest of the characters. Dez Burke is truly a talented writer and I cannot wait to read more from her!!
Great follow up book in the series. Got to know Kendra and Flint better as well as learn more about Jesse. Great job of writing as always Dez. Thanks for continuing to share your gift with us...
Very good follow up to Safehouse. Kendra and Flint were a very sweet couple and I hated for the story to end. Sex scenes were off the charts. Looking forward to Jesse's story. Dez did it again.
