David Quinn is a comic book writer. His main graphic novel Faust (with co-creator Tim Vigil) was adapted by Brian Yuzna as the 2001 movie Faust: Love of the Damned. The follow-up Faust: Book of M, was nominated for the 1999 Bram Stoker Award for Best Illustrated Narrative.
Among other work, he has written runs on Marvel's Doctor Strange and Chaos! Comics' Purgatori and Lady Death.

I love Quinn's sick, cynical writing and Vigil's technique makes me just want to cut my own hands off. The original Faust series started great and just got better. Shame the subsequent 'Wrath 777' issues aren't listed here, as they're even better.

I’m torn on this comic. The art is fantastic, and while I think it has good characterization at points, it sometimes wallows in how dark it wants to be. There are also a few portions of text that are written in the reporter’s handwriting that is hard to read.

Why isn’t there any Faust action figures
Finally finished Faust and what a wild ride it was, it kinda felt like a stab towards Spawn and how the Image comic was promised to be darker and more adult compared to Marvel and DC only for it to be mostly tame but this actually came out before Spawn so it’s kind of ahead of its time, Faust is totally unapologetic in its nudity and violence and I think that rules.
Basic story is that a schizophrenic named John dies while in the care of his psychiatrist (and secret lover) Jade and is resurrected by a evil cult leader to reshape the world in his image, given absurdly sharp blades and a cool costume he becomes Faust the singing slasher.
Faust has a pretty sick grey and blood red costume with these long Wolverine like claws, he doesn’t really have actual superpowers just really good hand to hand combat skills and seemingly high pain tolerance, he also sings while he kills bad guys and I think that’s a really funny but unique part of his character.
Jade however is really only used to move the plot along and be brutalized, like I get this is an extreme horror comic but damn dude she goes through so much without any payoff really, everyone in the comic wants her for something and it just feels weird, I get she’s supposed to be tragic but there’s no impact to it is she doesn’t really get a happy ending.
M the main villain is decent, he’s your run of the mill god complex cult leader.
Where Faust really shines is Tim Vigil’s artwork it’s fantastic, John keeps hallucinating these crazy demons due to his schizophrenia and they look amazing, I really can’t recommend Faust enough, it’s a bit messy but there’s so many crazy parts and cool splatterpunk gore, like mixing it with Superheroics is just such a fun and unique concept.

Take the long lessons learned from the Watchmen mixed with the indie sensibilities of the black and white invasion/Turtle comics, with the worst excesses of the Image Revolution and you have this comic.

This series is dark, violent and often perverse. A great series.

This one was not a child friendly comic, it is x rated. But it was good for what it was.
