I received this as an ARC and truly enjoyed it!

Rhosyn is such a strong but broken character, and I enjoyed watching her fight through the trials while dealing with her grief. The slow-burn romance with Draven kept me hooked, and the world of the five courts feels so fun and full of potential. There could have been some more world building through each court. A little slow in spots, but overall I couldn’t put it down—already excited for the next book!

4.5 but rounding up!

Before I start my review I have to say that the author is a friend of mine and I received an early e-arc to read!❤️ But my review will be totally honest.

We follow Rhosyn, who lost her entire family in the Ambush killed by the Vampire Court. Now the next vampire King is hosting deadly trials to find a wife and secure an heir. And guess who is forced into these trials? Right, Rhosyn 😱

I had so much fun reading this!!! I immediately got into the story, when most times with fantasy that takes me a while. It was addicting and I wanted to keep reading and I was thinking about it when I wasn't reading.

I loved the trials! They were thrilling and nerve wracking and fun to read. I also really liked all the characters! (Besides the ones you're meant to dislike 👀) Rhosyn was a wonderful main character, badass but who also has her weaknesses. Draven was the broody vampire you would expect but with so many layers and a beautiful backstory to explore. I also loved the side characters! Liviana, a witch, was probably my favorite. There were some other side characters I would have loved to see more of/explored more. Same with the world, I hope to see more of the other courts especially the witches and mind whisperers in the next book because they were so interesting to me, but I think we will 👀

I loved how grief was explored in this book with both Rhosyn and Draven but also with some of the Fae and Vampire side characters because they lost everyone and everything as well and you could see how people reacted differently to this. Reverting into hatred and revenge or pushing for hope and love.

I'm not the biggest romantasy reader, most of the genre I've read I haven't loved but let me tell you this was such a good balance of romance and fantasy for me!! And the romance is a slow burn throughout this novel which I love because give me all the yearning, the pain and the longing! There was also actual good communication between them which is definitely not always the case in this genre so I loved to see that. It didn't shy away from the issues they were facing/would face in the future and they have to work through this which makes them feel more real. And made me root for them! 🥰

Overall I enjoyed this so so much and I need all of you to preorder this and read it when it comes out in September! 👏🏼

I was incredible lucky to be chosen for an ARC of this book and let me tell you - I cannot wait for the next one. I’m old school - I love physical books - so reading this on my tablet took some getting used to. Once I got a feel for the writer’s rhythm and cadence, I read this book in one afternoon. With characters you absolutely want to root for, enough twists to keep you guessing, and some truly emotional moments, this book was a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. I will absolutely be buying a physical copy when it is out and I truly cannot wait to read the author’s next one.

I was sold on this book from the very beginning. There are so many layers! The character complexity and their arcs, the tumultuous history, the action from the trials...it was all fast-paced and fun.

I was 1000% here for the pining from Draven. It was such a great contrast to Rhosyn's attitude towards him throughout the book.

The political layers are possibly the most intriguing part of this story. I loved the behind the scenes conversations around how our characters had to play the court games, and the repercussions of those choices.

I absolutely could not put this book down. I couldn't stop reading the banter, the yearning, and the character development. I'm so excited to see where this story continues to develop!

overall: recommend

I had the amazing opportunity to read the ARC for this, and I could not be more grateful for it!

It's safe to say that I had the time of my life reading this, I was eating up every bit of it. When I heard that this had vampires and trials, I knew I was in for a good time. And it certainly was!

The trials were so much fun, but also stressful to read. With the stakes constantly raising in each trial, you wonder how our FMC Rhosyn is going to survive each one. It had me turning the pages with bated breath. I was so eager to know what happens next. The other candidates in the trials were also interesting, and while I do wish that they were given more to do, they had enough of a presence to make me want more of the Courts they inhabit. There was one particular side character that I adored, and it was Liviana. She's the sweetest witch you will ever read about, and her friendship with Rhosyn was one of my favorite aspects of this book.

But this book had so much more going on than just the trials. It also explores Rhosyn having to deal with an event that changed her life for the worst, how she dealt with it, and the complex family dynamics in our MMC Draven that led him to be the person he is by the time we first meet him. I felt so much for them as individuals, so when the tension started to rise between them, I was genuinely rooting for them to be together.

The best moments for me in this book weren't actually the trials itself, but the conversations that took place between Rhosyn and Draven, where not only are the banters exquisite, but there are these moments where they acknowledge their shortcomings, their issues and their hope for the future of Rhyatha. It doesn't shy away nor dismiss the issues that come between Rhosyn and Draven. In fact, it puts them at the forefront and makes their development feel real instead of forced.

One thing I would have loved to see more were the other three Courts in the world of Rhyatha, as the Faerie and Vampire courts are the major ones featured in the story, but after I was told that a sequel was on the way, I'm holding on to that possibility that we'll see more of the other four Courts in the future.

Overall, this was such a wonderful read, and one that I flew through so quickly that it got me out of a reading slump. If you need a good fast paced romantasy with characters that will stick with you, and a romance that takes working through barriers to finally reach its destination, Shadows of Emerald Ruin is the perfect read for you.

This was a fun and easy read. It had a lot of elements that I like such as vampires, trials, a moody insufferable king and enemies to lovers. A few twists I didn’t see coming and a witch best friend I adored.

The writing was simplistic and pacing steady for the most part although it did slow down/slightly drag for me in the middle at times. I wanted a little more edge from the MMC but still enjoyed it for the most part. The ending ramped up really quickly especially after the trials. I am hopeful we get to learn more about the magic system coming in the next book.

I truly loved this story 💚 Thank you Jacki for this advanced copy!
The ongoing war between the Faes and the Vampires leads to a divided Kingdom, and when the King of Rhyatha starts the Trials to choose a wife, Rhosyn somehow finds herself in the middle of it. But since the Vampire Court is responsible for the loss of her entire family, how can she even think of marrying her one and only enemy? Her only choice: win and break free from his Court.
But Draven won't let her go so easily 😈

You'll love these Tropes:
🗡️Fae vs Vampires
🗡️Deadly Trials
🗡️Enemies to Lovers
🗡️Dual POV
🗡️Magic System
🗡️Death & Trauma
🗡️ Political Affaires
🗡️ Secrets & Betrayals

Can't wait to see what happens next!!! ❤️‍🔥

I am grateful to be given the chance to review Shadows of Emerald Ruin of my own accord, through being offered an eARC.

I was intrigued by Rhosyn’s story, it was fascinating to get to know her.
I enjoyed the dual points of view between Rhosyn and Dravin.
The whole story kept me interested, I needed to know what was going to happen next.
I can’t wait to see how this series plays out.

What's that saying about curiosity and a cat?

Admittedly I don't generally read stories featuring vampires, witches, wolves, and fae. Yet a part of me thinks that the elements of this story are not new.

You have trials where the female of the winning court has to produce an heir for the Vampire King. Yeah. No thank you. Now, I'm confused in that I would think the vampires would want a pure breed to be their future king. Why would a thousand year old vampire want to take orders from a fifty year old half breed? Who's to say that said heir would have the vampires' best interest at heart. See, curiosity keeps me reading the book. I feel as though all the puzzle pieces are just laying around and I just can't figure out how they all go together.

This is a slow slow burn romance. At least I think there's romance involved.

This is the first book in a trilogy, so yeah, at some point my anxiety is going to be in the stratosphere.

Okay. There is definitely violence against women.

So in my opinion, this could have been a one and done book. No additional books needed. But this is a trilogy and I have to admit that worries me. These two have gone through a lot. I can only imagine how much worse things are going to be, when the court that has rare been mentioned gets involved.

Review to come.

Thank you for the ARC copy, I tend to gravitate to fantasy books and this one was a good combo of fantasy races. The main character Rhosyn is a Fae who doesn’t really know her own strength or power. She has had her life destroyed by the ambush only to be forced into taking part in trials for the very family who destroyed hers. She either has to win the trials and marry the vampire king or die and things got very very complicated for her along the journey.

I was impressed with the story telling and the relationships that developed through the book. The portrayal of vampires slightly differed than the normal conventional vampire which I enjoyed a lot.

Highly recommend this and cannot wait for the second book

(This is an ARC review)
Plot: Years after surviving The Ambush, Rhosyn is forced to compete in a series of deadly trials to become the bride of the Vampire king, from the very same Court that took her entire family from her. She must battle grief and guilt and other contestants to walk away from these trials alive. But she doesn't expect to start to fall for the enchanting Draven.

This book. Oh my goodness, this book.
Jacki has been able to weave a familiar storyline of trials into a unique enemies to lovers story that rocked me to my core. From page one I was invested in Rhosyn's story, her grief and story so familiar, and her resilience to continue inspiring. And I quickly came to love Draven, my sweet cinnamon roll, and the conflicts of his personality and his role as King. On top of that the trials felt unique and realistic (for a fantasy world.) And watching Rhosyn grow and fit into herself was truly phenomenal to see.

You'll especially love this book if youre looking for
-TRUE enemies to lovers
-A powerful FMC
-The power of friendship
-a truly shocking plot twist

For a debut this book shows so much promise for a bright future of this lovely author. I can't wait to get my hands on book two!

I received an Arc version of this book, and finished reading in about 7 days. I could not put it down!

This book was wonderful. I was immediately interested in the story, sometimes fantasy books take a little while to get into since there is SO much to learn right away when starting a new series.

I fell in love with the main character Rhosyn, you know when you read a book and you just feel a connection to a character? Well that was me with this read! Would recommend to anyone who is looking for a new series to dive into! What’s not to love?

There is a list of trigger warnings, I am always happy to see those, which gives you a little warning about the context. Can’t wait to read the next one!

I was invested from start to finish eager to see what awaited in the next chapter. I loved Draven and Rhosyn coming together despite their differences and views. I enjoyed seeing them grown and realizing there was more than meets the eye. I hope there’s another book where we get to see more of them and their relationship. I also hope we get to see them bring the peace they both desire.

I had the incredible opportunity to read an ARC of Shadows of Emerald Ruin, and I couldn’t be more thankful for it!

From the moment I heard it featured vampires and trials, I knew I was in for a ride—and it absolutely delivered. I devoured this book. The trials were intense, thrilling, and sometimes downright stressful, with the stakes rising at every turn. I was completely hooked, flipping pages with bated breath, desperate to see how Rhosyn would make it through each one.

The other trial candidates were compelling as well. While I do wish some had been given a bit more page time, they still added depth and intrigue—especially in teasing the larger world and the Courts they represent. I’m especially hoping we get more of that in future installments. One standout side character for me was Liviana. She’s the sweetest witch you’ll ever meet, and her bond with Rhosyn was one of the most heartwarming parts of the story.

But there’s so much more to this book than just the trials. It also dives into Rhosyn’s painful past and how she copes with a life-altering event. At the same time, we explore the complicated family dynamics that shaped Draven into the man we meet. I really felt for both of them as individuals, so when their relationship started to shift, I was genuinely rooting for them.

Surprisingly, the moments that stuck with me the most weren’t the action-packed scenes, but the quieter, deeper conversations between Rhosyn and Draven. Their banter is sharp, their emotional honesty is refreshing, and their shared hope for Rhyatha’s future is deeply moving. The story doesn’t gloss over their personal flaws or the barriers between them—it leans into those challenges, making their growth and connection feel authentic and earned.

If there’s one thing I’d love to see more of, it’s the other three Courts of Rhyatha. The Faerie and Vampire courts take center stage here, but knowing a sequel is on the way gives me hope we’ll get to explore even more of this fascinating world.

All in all, Shadows of Emerald Ruin was an absolute joy to read. It pulled me out of a reading slump and kept me hooked from start to finish. If you're looking for a fast-paced romantasy with rich worldbuilding, memorable characters, and a romance that feels real and hard-won, this one is a must-read.

I absolutely LOVED this book!! It has all my favorite things: Vampires, Fae, Witches, Trials!! Sign me up!! Rhoysn, a fae, is forced to compete in trials to be the next bride to the vampire king, Draven. Years prior Rhosyn’s family was killed by vampires during an attack on their court which left it in ruins. Marrying the vampire king is the last thing she wants. Draven is her enemy. Her plan is to survive the trials, figure out how to escape , and return to her home court. She is forced to interact with Draven throughout the trials and starts to realize he may not be the monster she thought he was.

The pacing in this book was perfect and the story held my attention. The trials were exciting and well written and kept me turning the pages to see how they would end and who would survive. Our FMC Rhosyn is a bad ass who doesn’t take shit from anyone not even the vampire king. I love that about her!! She tells Draven how it is even if it isn’t what he wants to hear and despite the potential consequences. Draven is our bad boy vampire who you want to hate but as his story unravels and his past unfolds you understand how he ended up in the position he’s in. This is a true enemies to lovers, slow burn, touch her and die romantasy. All my fav topes!! There were some good twists and turns in the story that I didn’t see coming and kept me guessing. The world building and magic system are not overly complex and easy to follow yet interesting. The story was wrapped up nicely and didn’t end with a big cliff hanger but definitely leaves you wanting more. I will definitely be checkin out book 2 when it is released!!

Favorite quotes:

"You are hosting trials where we kill each other in order to find someone for you to stick your cock into and order around. And now, in the midst of everything you decide you finally care?"

" If she died, I felt like my heart would stop beating with hers. Her suffering would be my ruin. And her death my destruction."

"You were not naive, Rhosyn. You were filled with hope that the world might turn out to be a better place."

This book had me in a chokehold! Just the knowledge of vampires and deadly trials was enough for me to know I was in for a great time! And let me tell you, it was!

The characters were amazing! Both Rhosyn and Draven are so complex, each with their own battles, shortcomings, and internal struggles.

Rhosyn is an undeniable force. She is fierce and strong and brave; she is not afraid to speak her mind and hold a dagger to the throat of the literal king of her kingdom! She has been through so much, and yet she perseveres. Even in her perceived moments of weakness, she was so strong, and I just wanted to give her a hug.

Draven is the dangerous and mysterious Vampire King. He has a hard exterior but is really just a sweet cinnamon roll who only wants the best for his people and Rhosyn. I loved his character growth, and I can't wait for the next book to see him continue to find his voice as king.

And them together... it was passion and fire! Their banter was top-notch, but what I loved the most was the way they both found comfort in one another and shared their trauma and grief; it was vulnerable, beautiful, and heartbreaking. The author did an incredible job capturing their emotions and making you feel along with them. I cried multiple times in this book!

Liviana is also an outstanding side character, and her friendship with Rhosyn was a definite highlight of the book!

The plot was brilliant, the pacing was perfect, the trials and action were gripping, and everything wrapped up wonderfully! I am so excited to see what comes next in book 2!

Tropes:
💚 Enemies-to-lovers
💚 Deadly trials
💚 Vampires, Fae & Witches
💚 Dagger to the throat
💚 Banter
💚 Slowww burn
💚 Touch her & die
💚 Spicy

Favourite Quotes:

✨️"Love was nothing compared to what I felt for her. Her entire being devoured me, her mere presence enough to fulfill my every need yet make me crave more of it at the same time."✨️

4.5 ⭐️ (rounded down bc I don't round up to 5 as a principle)

If I had to describe Shadows of Emerald Ruin, I'd say Hunger Games meets the Bachelor. Three years after her family's deaths during The Ambush, Rhosyn is informed that the Vampire King is searching for a wife and they are taking volunteers from each Court to participate in the trials. In an effort to save a friend, she unfortunately becomes the contestant from the Fae Court.

While the other Courts' volunteers want to be there, Rhosyn has absolutely zero desire to marry King Draven. She just wants her freedom back, but the only way to do that is to survive the trials and escape far away from Rhyatha with her friends.

As the trials go on, Rhosyn starts feeling a pull toward the man she hates whose family (the former King) is responsible for the deaths of her parents and sister, and King Draven can't stop thinking about her either.

I have to say, I was excited about the premise of this book, and it beyond delivered. The way Jacki C. Golden writes had such great descriptors that I could really visualize exactly what was happening throughout. There was a lot of depth to both the characters and the plot, which made the story that much more enjoyable and easy to get lost in. And the plot twists!!! I ate this one up and can't wait for the next one. Seriously, it can't come soon enough!

Would be great for fans of Throne of Secrets and Phantasma!

Thank you to Jacki for a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

**ARC Review**

4.5 stars rounded up to 5.

Shadows of Emerald Ruin is a true enemies to lovers story that includes multi-species/multi-paranormal creatures. You’ll see fae, witches, vampires, werewolves, etc. throughout the storyline, and it is action packed; thanks to the many trials the contestants must conquer. The prize? The Vampire King.

The two main characters of this story involve a fae (Rhosyn) and a vampire (Draven). These two have about every reason to hate one another as both of their kinds have caused harm to the other. However, the chemistry and the tension between these two are undeniable. But could it ever be possible for either individual to look beyond the pure hatred their kind has for the other’s?

Shadows of Emerald Ruin is not only entertaining, but it has depth. You get to see into both main character’s lives and their painful history/past. The dual-POV here really does a very good job of tying both of their individual stories into the one current present day. There were also a few plot twists and potential foreshadowing/easter eggs laid out along the way while you read, and I just really commend the author for doing such a great job.

The reason why I gave this 4.5 starts over 5 was because the pacing got a little wonky near the end. I found the overall pacing through most of the book to be steady and enjoyable. The last 1/3-1/4 of the book felt a bit more rushed, and I wish there was a bit more time spent here to dive more into it because a lot does happen.

At the end of the day, I loved it! I desperately need book two to see how the rest of the story goes.

Shadows of Emerald Ruin by Jacki C Golden

5 stars

I absolutely LOVED this book and couldn’t put it down, I was totally hooked right from the start - no long, slow world building to start with here, but included throughout the story instead.

This book follows Rhoysn as she’s chosen from the fae court to enter trials to fight to become the vampire king’s wife, when it was the vampires who had taken everything from her and all but destroyed the fae.

It’s a true enemies to lovers story, where he falls first and she holds on to the hate. Both the FMC and MMC have traumatic pasts which heavily influence their thoughts, feelings and actions but as the story progresses we see how they both grow and learn they are not their past and have the opportunity to build a better world.

There are so many great side characters - I loved the witch who became the fmc’s friend during the course of the trials, and even loved the characters were supposed to hate (Citro!)

I felt allll the feelings during this book - I laughed and sniggered, cried, gasped, screamed and did some foot stamping too 🤣

Yes, the ending felt a little rushed compared to the pace of the first 3/4 of the book, but I honestly didn’t mind that because I wanted to know EVERYTHING as quickly as possible by that point 🤣

I’m excited to see where the second book in this series will go - the ending was a cliffhanger, but not so dramatic that I’ve been sent into a spiral I can’t get out of, so thank you for preserving my sanity Jacki 🤣

Huge thanks to the author for sharing an ARC with me - I want the paperback as a souvenir and ready for future re-reads now ❤️

First of all, Thank you very much for this ARC!
.
"How does it feel to breath?" "It feels absolutely fantastic to breath your Majesty, you should try it some time."

This author went and done it. I fell in love and quickly. I read this book in one go and I loved it! This book really shows how wars and fights keep existing in an everlasting loop. Because people keep blaming everyone for the doings of a select group of people to deal with their pain, loss and grief. An eye for an eye. But if we keep blaming each other, than it will never end and it has to stop somewhere. Someone has to forgive, so we can start anew.

I would have loved to have more world building and knowledge about the different courts and species. But as this book will not be the last, I hope to get that information.

What I really liked was that none of it felt unrealistic, naive or rushed. The issues were real, the pain and hurt were real, but they talked through it. Was it messy and confusing, yes, but was it realistic and believable? Definitely! The relationship between Rhosyn and Draven was just everything. The banter, the conversation, the understanding and their shortcomings. The spice was near the end, but boy, the spice was present.

Special shoutout to Liviana. I loved her character and her friendship with Rhosyn is definitely worth mentioning.

I laughed, I cried and went up and down in the emotion rollercoaster. I can't wait for the second book!

4.5⭐️ rounded up

Thank you to Jacki C. Golden for the ARC of Shadows of Emerald Ruin. This one hooked me right away.

I really enjoyed Rhosyn as a main character. She’s strong and determined but still vulnerable in ways that make her easy to root for. Her journey through the trials was tense, creative, and kept me invested the whole time. And the romance? You know I live for enemies-to-lovers. Their chemistry built in such a satisfying way.

The side characters also deserve some love. Runa and Livinia especially. They brought in those girl-power vibes that balanced the darker, more brutal aspects of the trials. Those little moments of loyalty and friendship really grounded the story and made me care about more than just the central romance.

That said, this wasn’t a full 5 stars for me. Some of the dialogue felt clunky, and if I never read the phrase “swallowed thickly” again, it’ll be too soon. But honestly, that’s nitpicking in the grand scheme of how much I enjoyed reading this. The pacing was steady, the worldbuilding intriguing, and the mix of tension, action, and romance kept me locked in.

If you like high-stakes trials, a heroine worth cheering for, and an enemies-to-lovers romance with bite (literally), this is definitely one to pick up. I’m definitely interested in continuing the series.

My Synopsis: Three years after the vampires slaughtered the Fae court, the vampire high king begins a mandatory trial for his bride. One female from every court must attend chosen as a volunteer or be forced by the King's Guard that come for them. Rhosyn Naseria is picked and forced to attend the trials for the King whose brother slaughtered her family. Rhosyn's plan? Survive, win, escape. Can she do it?

What I loved:
- I truly enjoyed the slow progression of the relationship between Rhosyn and Draven. And Rhosyn's arc to learn to trust more than those at home.
- The detail within the trials was outstanding. I felt the panic, I smelled the blood, I heard the crunch of their feet, and I saw the movements as they happened. Jacki did really well at bringing you into the story.
- The story truly keeps you engaged the whole time. It's moderately paced, so not rushing, but not slow; giving the reader the ability to breathe and engage in the plots.

What I didn't enjoy:
- The plot twist at the end really bothered me. I know it's necessary, but I think the story could've done just fine without the way the old friends interacted and did.

For fans of:
Blooms of Darkness, Hallowed Games, and Of Blades and Wings.

Thank you to Jacki C. Golden and her team for the ARC! All information contained herein is my true and honest opinion.

I'm learning to give into the pain of losing beloved side characters, that shock me to no ends. I was absolutely crying. But most of all the betrayals of someone who you thought as your family. That's a gut wrench.

There were moments in this books where Rhosyn just made me really emotional that, my eyes are red and puffy.

I mean having to relive the torture and pain of seeing your family dying and you just wanting to yourself be with them. But somehow find it within yourself to survive against all odds, against the never ending sadness or memories that your family is no longer here.

With Rhosyn and Draven ( Vampire King ) my favourite moments were the honest chats of the deep and personal level. The longing and her actually hating him but slowly it builds up to more of the unwanted and unexpected feelings. I absolutely loved the knife to the throat moment that was everything.

And Draven that moment you took revenge was sweet justice ( made me a happy camper ❤️ )

Can you tell I'm more than ready for book 2

Available on KU and to buy on Amazon. I truly adored this book and the deadly trial they got my blood pumping.

First of all, a huge thank you to Jacki C. Golden for giving me the opportunity to read her book!

In Shadows of Emerald Ruin we follow Rhosyn, a Fae who has lost her family—and much of her court—at the hands of the Vampire Court. On the other side, we meet King Draven, ruler of the vampires. Years of bloodshed have created a deep hatred between the Fae and the vampires, and this tension is at the heart of the story.

I really loved the thought and imagination that went into this story, and I do believe Jacki has a lot of potential as a writer. Unfortunately, the story just didn’t fully click with me.

At times, I felt the pacing was off—we would jump quickly from one moment to the next. The worldbuilding also felt uneven: certain details about history or lore seemed to be added on the spot, rather than woven in smoothly. On top of that, I didn’t quite feel the spark or banter between Rhosyn and Draven. Rhosyn often got away with saying and doing things that didn’t feel believable considering Draven’s position as king. To me, he came across a little too soft for what I’d expect from a powerful male lead.

Unfortunately, we can’t all love the same characters—and I really wanted to love them—but you can’t force a connection that isn’t there.

⭐ Overall rating: 2.5 stars

I loved this storyline and how much time and attention went into the trials. This is where we get our connections between our MCs but also the friendship between the FMC and another contestant.

My initial reaction to Draven was, oh my a vampire with feelings?! Well, that doesn’t disappoint (and explains a lot later—no spoilers here). I love Draven and he’s well written. I don’t have that pull to Rhosyn and wish I did. She has the ‘burn the world for you’ potential quite literally and it doesn’t get used enough beyond the trials.

I am a stingy star giver: here’s what I didn’t just love, but won’t stop me from devouring more of this story in the next installment:

1) I wish the second half of this book was not rushed and had more detail about the battle (think gut wrenching suspense, more secondary character development that will potentially have an impact on the storyline in book 2).

2) I have a personal preference for 4-5 🌶️ spice and this was a clear 1 🌶️. Just a personal opinion: vampires are traditionally written as lusty characters and this had a lot of unexplored potential. That being said, if you are a more “reserved” romance reader, this is going to be a phenomenal read for you.

** I received an ARC of this book. Thank you, truly.**

This book centers around Rhosyn competing in trials. These trials are to select the next bride for the vampire king. Rhosyn is a fae whose family was killed by vampires. She goes into the trials with the expectation to survive and then escape to return home. During the trials, Rhosyn interacts with Draven, the vampire kings and her thoughts on vampires being monsters slow begins to change with each interactions she has.

Rhosyn is the kind of FMC that I love because she perseveres in the struggles, she is strong willed and brave. Draven is mysterious, you expect him to be hard to deal with and rough, but once you get past that he is really kind and thoughtful. I really loved his character. The banter between these two were next level and had me laughing in some parts. They truly bonded over their past and it made them such a stronger couple for me.

The plot was plotting, the trials were nerve-wracking but you were on the edge of your seat trying to see what happens next. The author knows how to make you feel what the characters are feeling which makes the story all the better.

Thank you so much to the author for allowing me to get my hands on this early. All my opinions are my own….I can wait for the next book.
