Will taking a chance on the Duke’s convenient proposal give Miss Charlotte the happy ending she’s been looking for? Find out in this compelling high society romance.
“I’ll marry the next eligible lady
…who walks through the door!”
After the death of his dissolute older brother, Dr. Ted Scott’s grief is twofold, for he’d rather remain a physician than become the new Duke of Falstone. Reluctantly he must now do his duty and find a bride—whoever that might be!
Charlotte Pearson only has herself to blame that she’s still on the shelf, living with her unpleasant mother after a failed elopement, so Ted’s impulsive proposal is impossible to refuse. He’s clear their marriage is purely for convenience—but that doesn’t address the fact that he needs an heir!
Sadie King is a historical romance novelist, with Regency romance novels published by Harlequin Mills & Boon.
Sadie also writes historical & contemporary novels under the name of Sarah L King, published via her own Ethersay Publishing imprint. Her novels include a trilogy set during the Pendle witch trials in the seventeenth century.
Sadie was born in Nottingham and raised in Lancashire. After graduating with a degree in History from Lancaster University, she moved to West Lothian, Scotland where she now lives with her husband and children. When she’s not writing, she loves long country walks, romantic ruins, Thai food and travelling with her family.
Having encountered Miss Charlotte Pearson in a previous novel by Sadie King I was intrigued to discover how things would work out for her. She had the misfortune to have an extremely pushy and domineering mother who regarded her daughter as a route out of poverty - if only she married well. However, unfortunate events had meant them returning to Northumberland. Charlotte had become friends with Lady Elspeth Scott and volunteered at the local School of Industry helping to educate the poorest girls in the Parish. Lady Elspeth's brother was the Earl of Falstone who had recently inherited the title much to his vexation. I enjoyed reading the circumstances leading to her accepting his proposal and their susbequent honeymoon in Edinburgh. I loved the setting, the medical details and the cleverly researched aspects of Edinburgh society at that time. I was pleased with the way the story resolved. I do love a happy ending!
