Nighthawks #5

Find Me in the Fire: Coach’s Daughter Hockey Romance

Rate this book
When the inferno begins, will they find each other amongst the flames or become lost in the smoke?

Piper Hartwell exudes confidence and sex appeal, having no problem speaking her mind or going after what she wants. As a highly successful wedding planner, she is detail-oriented and a bit of a control freak. But behind that hardened shell, sky-high walls, and painted-on smile lies a girl who has sworn off love, knowing firsthand the damage it can leave in its wake.

Brett Burns, a powerhouse forward for the New York Nighthawks, lives every second with his heart on his sleeve, loving nothing more than spending time with his family and his team. He is playful, kind, and a hopeless romantic to the core. When the two run into each other at a Nighthawk player’s wedding, they can’t deny their intense chemistry, happily giving in to their every desire. Piper quickly informs Brett of his skillful shortcomings in the bedroom despite his impressive tools.

Desperately wanting to see her again, he offers that they become exclusive friends with benefits. She gets her no-strings-attached relationship while he gets sexy lessons from the girl of his dreams. They are a perfect pairing, but their deal has to remain hidden because Piper is the daughter of one of Brett’s assistant coaches, and their relationship threatens Brett’s professional hockey career. Their plan should go perfectly. But the late nights, intimate moments, and secret hookups in the arena begin to lead to something more. Before they know it, they become intertwined in one another’s lives in ways they never see coming, including discovering a dark secret that lingers in the shadows.

Although their forbidden romance is fiery hot, there’s a problem when you start playing with fire...you can get burned. But sometimes, that blazing heat can forge things stronger than they ever were before.

💭This was my first time reading one of Pru’s books, and I really enjoyed her writing style! Piper and Brett’s story is not only fun and steamy, but it also throws in a little suspense towards the end, which kept me hooked. Piper is the daughter of a Nighthawks Hockey Team coach, and even though she works as a wedding planner, she’s not exactly a believer in love. Her dad walked out on her, leaving her pretty jaded about relationships. So, she’s all about casual hookups, nothing serious.

When Brett shows up, all eager to jump into bed with her, she’s game but she only wants a no-strings-attached hookup. And here’s where things get fun: she ends up giving him a little... lessons, because let’s just say, his bedroom skills weren’t quite what he thought they were, LOL. But, as we all know, FWB arrangements never stay that simple, and their feelings for each other start to deepen.

It’s a great mix of heat, humor, and a dash of emotional growth. You can totally see how Piper’s walls start to come down, and Brett is right there for the ride, making the journey even more swoon-worthy! Overall, a super enjoyable read, perfect for hockey romance lovers!

Piper and Brett’s story was one of my favorites! I loved both of their personalities and think they worked so great together! Piper is sassy, hardworking, and completely against relationships and I loved seeing her slowly fall for Brett! Brett is a goofy, happy go lucky guy, and an absolute golden retriever when it comes to Piper! From the first time he saw her, he is hooked! When they agreed to “teach me” lessons (FOR BRETT- MIGHT I ADD) I was so giddy and couldn’t wait to see them both fall for one another! I also liked the stalker element and think it helped keep you on the edge and really showed Brett’s protective side well!
Overall, this was so cute, emotional, and will have you wanting to not put it down ☺️

This is probably my favorite book in the Nighthawks series. I COULDN’T PUT IT DOWN!!! I finished it in like 5 hours which is totally insane😂❤️

Piper and Brett’s story was the hottest thing I have ever read. Their dynamic??? SO GOOD. Now I just a couple of days to think this through and write a worthy review for this book!

ARC review🧡

First thing first, a huge thank to @pruschylerauthor for giving me the opportunity for providing me the ARC of Find Me In The Fire, the 4th book of the Nighthawks Series🧡

This book follows the story of Piper, the coach’s daughter, and Brett, a New York Nighthawks hockey player. Piper Hartwell is a highly successful wedding planner, she is detail-oriented and a bit of a control freak. But behind that hardened shell, sky-high walls, and painted-on smile lies a girl who has sworn off love, knowing firsthand the damage it can leave in its wake. Brett Burns lives every second loving his family and his team. He is playful, kind, and a hopeless romantic to the core. When they run into each other at a Nighthawk player's wedding, they can't deny their intense chemistry, happily giving in to their every desire. They soon become friends with benefits, bound by a deal: she gets her no-strings-attached relationship while he gets sexy lessons from the girl of his dreams. Their relationship must remain secret given the fact that she’s his coach’s daughter. Their plan should work perfectly… but the late nights, intimate moments, and secret hookups in the arena begin to lead to something more, something they weren’t ready for, and as we all know, when you start playing with fire, you can get burned.

You guys, I LOVED EVERY SINGLE PAGE OF THIS BOOK. I was so invested in the story that I couldn’t put the book down! I literally finished it in like six hours (which is insane I know😂). I knew as soon as I finished that this had become my favorite book in the series🥹❤️.

Piper was the perfect fmc, she knew what she wanted and she was not afraid to speak up. Brett is a hopeless romantic and from the first time he saw Piper he knew she was gonna be the perfect match for him.
Their chemistry was insanely good. I loved the spice lesson trope!! (I have to admit, that first scene had me cracking up ahah) And that plot twist at the end??? I kinda was expecting it but it still shocked the sh1t hell out of me🤣

I enjoyed reading this book. This novel was good while being somewhat different. This book is for you if you adore fmc with black cat energy and a golden retriever mmc. And, of course, if you enjoy reading about a guy who is eager to find out what she enjoys and isn't ashamed to admit his shortcomings. Then you need to read this book.🧡

Brett is a hopeless romantic, lively, and friendly. He is really affectionate towards his family and close friends. He was quite charming and endearing. He has playful relationship with his teammates.

He declares Piper is the love of his life immediately after they first meet. They end up falling in bed together the second time he sees her. Moreover, one event triggers another. They ended up becoming friends with benefits. It's terrific to sneak around with his coach's daughter, but he wants to get to know Piper on a deeper level.🤌🤭

Piper is a spitfire. She is a fierce, smart and hardworking. I adore her. She is not interested in forming a genuine relationship with anyone and has vowed to never fall in love. But eventually, she finds herself falling deeply and quickly for him.🙂‍↔️🙂‍↔️

The degree of spice was simply incredible. They have such wonderful chemistry together. The supporting characters were excellent and adorably cute.

I was lucky enough to receive as an ARC 🥰

This is Book 4 of The Nighthawk Series!

Find Me in the Fire delivers a fiery and engaging romance that expertly balances heat, humor, and emotional depth. The story follows Piper Hartwell, a confident and successful wedding planner who has built walls around her heart after witnessing love’s darker side. Her character is well-crafted, exuding a strong, independent spirit while harboring vulnerability beneath her exterior.

Brett Burns, a charming and romantic hockey player, contrasts sharply with Piper. His playful nature and heartfelt approach to life make him an endearing hero. Their chemistry is palpable from their first encounter at a wedding, igniting a passionate connection that leads them to enter a friends-with-benefits arrangement—a setup that seems perfect on the surface.

Schuyler skillfully navigates the complexities of their relationship, particularly the tension arising from the fact that Piper is the daughter of one of Brett’s coaches. This adds a layer of forbidden allure, heightening the stakes and drawing readers into their secretive encounters. The humor in their interactions, especially when Piper critiques Brett's performance, adds a delightful touch, keeping the tone light and playful even as deeper emotions begin to surface.

As the story progresses, their arrangement evolves into something more profound, revealing the intricacies of their feelings and the challenges they face. The emotional stakes rise when a dark secret from Piper's past threatens to disrupt their burgeoning relationship. Schuyler adeptly explores themes of trust, vulnerability, and the potential for healing through love.

Find Me in the Fire is a captivating read filled with sizzling chemistry, heartfelt moments, and the struggle to overcome personal demons. Fans of sports romance and forbidden love will find this novel to be a compelling and enjoyable addition to the genre.

🔥👏🏼Oops. I don’t even know what just happened. I couldn’t put this book down, and then next thing I knew I finished it in one sitting! There was so much great tension between the two leads. I ate it up!

I freaking love the “spicy lessons” trope and this was a role reversal from the norm! There was SO MUCH HEAT. Piper is a woman who knows what she wants/likes and wasn’t afraid to vocalize it. She has rules to protect her heart but she’s finally met her match. 💃🏻

Brett is a hopeless romantic that falls in love her the fiery stranger at first sight. When the two of them agree to a friend’s with benefits situation, he is just biding his time until he can win her heart! Sneaking around with the couch’s daughter is thrilling, but he wants MORE.

There was a plot twist at the end, (SCREAM Style 😱) and I literally had chills there for a bit!

Piper Hartwell has sworn off love. She’s seen firsthand how bad a relationship can end, how much it can damage a family. Her walls are in place and she won’t budge.
Brett Burns is a Nighthawks hockey player who has his sights set on his coach’s daughter. After a brief run in, he’s never been so in awe of a woman. Piper has stolen his mind before he even knows her name.
Piper being his coach’s daughter doesn’t deter him. Even she can’t deny the chemistry they have.
She’s made it a rule to never mess around with a hockey player, especially one who plays for her dad. But before she knows it she finds herself breaking that rule.
Those big blue puppy dog eyes have found their way inside no matter how much she wants to deny it. Will she find a way to open up her heart?

I really loved seeing how closed off she was based off of personal experience. I say this because I’m very similar. I’ve seen relationships fall apart and create riffs in a family. It almost scares me to even want to fall in love. But it was also refreshing seeing Brett just fall completely in love with her. Despite the fact he knew about her hesitations, he was all in from day one.
I know this story was fiction and all but it still gives me hope that we all have our someone out there🥹

"Love is being comfortable enough to be your truest self without abandon. Love is strength."

Y'all I binged this book. It's a very fast paced and easy read with a twist! It has loveable characters, strong friendships and tension.

I love a "spicy lessons" trope, and I loved seeing it reversed! Brett is a man who is willing to learn and please his lady. He is a true sweetheart with a heart of gold (and his own dirty mouth). The spicy scenes are hot and while plenty, they don't take away from the plot. Plus we actually get to see some hockey action! I love when a sports romance incorporates several, detailed scenes of the characters actually playing their sport.

Same with Piper and her job as a wedding planner! We actually get to see her do the job she loves and it gives us the perfect insight into her personality. Piper doesn't believe in love but boy does she have reason not to. You might initially think she's too closed off as a character but trust me there is more than meets the eye! Also I just love the juxtaposition of her being a wedding planner who doesn't buy into a happily ever after.

The hockey team dynamics are some of the best I've ever read. I love Jensy and Brett's relationship. Every scene with the hockey guys is hilarious and fun.

The title of this book is so fitting because this book is actually 𝐹𝐼𝑅𝐸 🔥I enjoyed it immensely. 𝓕𝓲𝓷𝓭 𝓜𝓮 𝓲𝓷 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓕𝓲𝓻𝓮 was a fantastic take on the reverse grumpy x sunshine trope. 𝘗𝘪𝘱𝘦𝘳, the FMC, is an actual queen and a total boss babe. I loved her boldness and the fact that she was unapologetically herself. 𝘉𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘵, the MMC, was a total sweetheart and a man that knows how to take direction (IYKYK). I also appreciated the fact that he never pressured 𝘗𝘪𝘱𝘦𝘳, and gave her the space to process her own feelings in regard to their relationship. I truly loved each of them.

This is book 4 in the ɴɪɢʜᴛʜᴀᴡᴋꜱ series! It’s charming, steamy, and features a plot twist that I did not see coming. Highly highly highly recommend reading this one! I mean there’s a scream mask scene! Say less 👏🏼

Out Now!!

Firstly, thank you to Pru for the ARC, and secondly, Holy Freaking Moly!

Just when I thought I had cried my last tear at a Nighthawks book, they just keep coming, I really did not put this down until completion. This series really makes you feel all the feels!

Wedding planner Piper doesn't believe in love, she learns very quickly in life that she doesn't need it, so only has a man friend around any longer than a few months, that is until she meet Brett, and when I tell you that there story is fire.... I mean, literally fire!!! IYKYK!!

I adore the New York Nighthawks series and there incredible stories, I love that this bought back our favourite couples from previous books as well as a closer look at some others, of who I am excited to learn more about.

I would highly recommend this to anyone with sense ;)
For fans of Hockey Romance, Coach's Daughter, Forbidden Romance, MMC is a Hopeless Romantic, FWB deal with a sprinkling of suspense and dash of Spice.

4.5 rounded up to 5

Piper doesn't believe in love for herself, even as she plans lavish weddings for her clients. Brett is a cocky forward with a golden retriever personality. Their intense chemistry leads to a hookup that has Piper help him please her. Brett begs her for lessons and they agree to be friends with benefits, but is there something more to their connection?

Read if you like:
-Golden Retriever x Black Cat
-Reverse Teach Me
-Coach's Daughter
-Friends with Benefits to More
-Reserve Slow Burn

I ate this book up! It was funny and engaging from the start. I was consuming it so hungerly that I didn't even notice when all these big emotions crept in. And those emotions were oh so satisfying! Golden Retriever x Black Cat always delivers and Find Me in the Fire was no exception. The chemistry and banter were so good!

I highly recommend this one!

I absolutely love this series by Pru and cannot get enough of it. Each of these books are quick easy reads and will have you captivated from the start. I literally didn’t want to put this book down. Piper is so funny from the start. I loved how honest she was with Brett during their first hookup. It made me laugh out loud 😂 Brett absolutely fell hard and fast for Piper and she was totally grumpy about all of it. She was so funny though and I loved their relationship from the start. I ate this book right up and definitely recommend it if you want something funny and an easy read. And that spicy scene at the end with the mask 🥵🥵

To be completely honest I struggled with rating and writing a review. This is just my opinion 🤷. I am sure this story will appeal to many readers but unfortunately it was not for me. I am giving it 2.75 stars (clicking 3 stars because no option for quarter ratings) . I really tried to like the characters but as the story unfolded I could not connect with them. It took way too long for the story to give me enough background to understand and sympathize with the FMC. The MMC came across as immature and didn't really grow. As much as I love a Golden Retriever MMC this one did not do it for me. I could also see the "plot twists" coming a mile away and the ending felt rushed and campy. I have downloaded another book by this author because I don't think one book is enough to make a decision about an author.

I received a free ebook and freely leaving this review.

Hands down my favorite book in the series so far. This story hit all the right notes; emotionally, romantically, and character-wise. I absolutely loved how Piper called Brett out during a really vulnerable moment for him, and instead of shutting down, he grew from the critique. That kind of emotional maturity made their connection feel real and earned.

I also deeply related to Piper’s workaholic, hyper-organized, perfectionist mindset. Her character felt authentic and relatable, and watching her learn to loosen her grip just enough while still staying true to herself was so satisfying. Piper and Brett were the perfect example of opposites attract—their chemistry was undeniable, natural, and full of tension in the best way.

This book had heart, growth, and a romance that truly stood out. An easy five-star read that solidified my love for this series.

Thank you to Pru for the ARC and the opportunity to provide an honest review.

This coach's daughter romance was so good. Piper and Brett were an amazing couple, and I loved their relationship. Piper was a wedding planner who had given up on love following a past experience. Brett was a hockey player who just happened to play for the team coached by Piper's dad, so Piper was off-limits, but these two had a tough time fighting the chemistry that was burning between them. I love the plot, and the inclusion of the suspense definitely had me intrigued. Pru is an amazing author, and her books never disappoint.

Brett is a romantic sweetheart that has fallen in love with his coaches daughter. Piper has sworn off love. What starts as a friends with benefits quickly grows into more. This book has humor, spice, and the ability to make you binge read in one day. I usually prefer grumpy guy but this reverse grumpy sunshine was done so well. Another unique thing that I don’t see in many books is the fmc teaching the big strong hockey player how to be better in the bedroom!! Yay for strong female main characters. So grateful to Pru Schuyler for allowing me to read the eARC. Definitely a fan and will happily read more.

This coach’s daughter, friends with benefits, hockey romance is so bingeable. Piper brings the black cat energy, Brett is a hopeless romantic, and together they deliver spice and fun in spades. But best of all, she teaches him - yep a twist on the spicy lessons.

There’s also plenty of hockey and team dynamics too. So if you’re a hockey fan, you’re gonna love this new release from @pruschuylerauthor.

Thank you Pru for the e-ARC of this fabulous story. Loved and devoured every word.

I love this series in its entirety but I think this one is my favourite out of them 😍🤩 oh my goodness , from the characters themselves to the banter between them, I was laughing so much 🤣 it was hilarious and then near the end it did a full 180 and I was bawling 😭 Would I read it again ? Over and over again until I'm sick of it (which I don't think I ever will be) I love Piper and Brett (Brett is just the sweetest guy, while Piper is his opposite - for reasons you come to understand more as you read) 🥰 instant 5 ⭐ for me

I loved Piper. She’s fierce and knows exactly what she wants, and love just isn’t part of the plan.

Brett, on the other hand, didn’t click with me. He fell head over heels way too fast, which was a bit much for me. He kind of gave off those awkward teenage boy vibes.

But overall, I was really into the story. That plot twist at the end? Totally unexpected... I didn’t see it coming. It was my first time reading a "spicy lessons" trope, and I was all about it. 🥵

Thank you Pru for ARC in exchange for an honest review ❤️

Just loving this series

Another fantastic book in this series, Brett Burns is definitely my favourite night hawk, I love that every couple in this series has been so different from the last and each story surrounding them is unlike the others. I also think it was really refreshing for Brett to be the one who needed lessons, I have read so many books where the female asks for them but this is the first time it's the guy and I loved that. Highly recommend this whole series.

I cracked up in the beginning when she told him he was bad and needed lessons. This was a great book addition to the team and I loved Pipers feisty attitude. Brett was adorable and I am surprised he held back as much as he did. He is the cutest baby bird.

Brett, a sunshine boy who plays hockey falls first for Piper, a girl who doesn’t believe in love... And did I mention this horror movie-loving girl is the daughter of one of his coaches? It is full of laughter, suspense, and some excellent characters. This is a phenomenal masterpiece of a book.
