When Millie's friend, Berta, elopes instead of fulfilling her obligations to be a mail order bride, she decides to take her friend's place and be the best mail order bride a man has ever seen. Of course, she can't exactly cook, and she enjoys meddling in other people's lives under the guise of "helping them," but surely, her future husband won't mind that.
Connor waits excitedly for his Berta to get off the train in Idaho, knowing that she is the answer to his prayers. She's an excellent cook and a hard worker, just what he needs for his restaurant. He's confused when Millie gets off the train in her place, but he accepts the switch good-naturedly. His bride has married someone else, after all. What could possibly go wrong?
Mail Order Minx was short and sweet. Millie's friend Berta wanted to be a Mail Order Bride but when her love interest comes back to town she marries him instead. This leaves Millie feeling terrible for the gentlemen who sends Berta a train ticket, so she decides to go instead. I liked Millie but I did find her annoying at times. Connor was wonderful, I didn't blame him for his disappointment that she lied about cooking. He had everything planned but sometimes plans are changed and I loved the fact that he was so willing to change his plans for his new bride.
Love the author's plot lines but the lack of editing makes them difficult to read. I'm not good at reviewing so my review will be the same for all the books from here on out. I read them all but wanted to take a red pen out all the way through. She did not spread "Flower" all over the kitchen while baking. (book 15) October to December does not equal " years" ( Book 11) A large cattle operation is a whole lot more than 40 acres. Some of the mistakes were just typos but quite a few were just careless research. I loved her characters but hated the lack of realism.
This is my least favorite of the series so far. I understand this is supposed to be a nice lite series with little if any conflict but this was just to tidy for what it could have been. Would have worked much better as a longer book.
Millie has a heart of gold and nothing but good intentions. Yet all the good intentions in the world don’t seem to stop her grand plans from falling completely flat. Millie has the ideas but not the experience or the forethought of thinking things through beyond that great idea that simply must work because she wants it to. Her impulsive decision to take her friend Berta’s place as a mail order bride because she’d gone and married someone else is probably the best example. The man Berta had agreed to marry owned a hotel and restaurant, and expected his bride to be able to cook. Millie has no idea how to cook the simplest of dishes or how to keep eggshells out of the scrambled eggs. Yet in Millie’s mind that small fact wouldn’t really matter because Connor was getting a wife as intended – and she’d learn the rest right after he fell madly in love with her at first sight. Poor Millie – she’s in for quite the awakening.
It’s easy to like Millie. And to smile at the situations she gets herself into. Not in a mean way just an indulgent, I wish I could sit you down and explain it to you way. Connor accepted the change in brides, but he wasn’t expecting all the things that Millie couldn’t do. Anger would have done no good for there was nothing to do about the situation but teach her and move forward. He found himself falling for Millie and her willingness to learn was from the heart. Now he just had to get her to come to him about her plans before she got herself in real trouble.
I had fun with Mail Order Minx. It’s a lighthearted story that will make you smile and enjoy the adventure. Sometimes that’s all I need to make me a happy reader. If you love Western Historical Romance then I’d recommend this story and the entire Brides of Beckham series..
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
Milly substituted for her best friend, who could no longer full fill the mail order marriage she agreed to. The groom had sent a train ticket to his home in Idaho for a wife that could cook. Milly couldn’t cook, but felt drawn to this adventure.
Milly was attracted to Conner when he met her at the train. He owned a hotel and restaurant. They lived in a small room in the hotel with a bath shared with the hall. She was expected to cook in the restaurant, but soon Conner realized he would have to teach her to cook. Milly was good with people, and took their orders and served. Soon Conner taught her to cook and she cook handle more.
Milly want to prove to be an asset with her people skills. But everything seemed to backfire.
Sweet romance with the right amount of anxiety. HEA.
I chose this rating because, having read several of Kirsten's books, I have never been disappointed and this book delivered her same style. The girl has good motives which make up for her shortcomings. This is a wonderful lesson for all of us. I recommend it-- it reminds us all of what's important.
I chose this rating because the book made me feel good. It's an example of the power of good, positive motives.
I really liked this book. Millie becomes the "substitute" bride for Connor when her friend Bertha elopes with her old beau instead of going to Idaho to be Connor's mail order bride.
Connor runs a hotel and restaurant and needed a bride who could cook. Millie couldn't cook but that didn't stop her from deciding she would be Bertha's replacement.
This is another story in the Brides of Beckham series. It's a quick fun story about a girl raised without a lot of direction in life and she goes to Idaho to marry an Irish immigrant who owns a restaurant and hotel. It's written with a lot of humor and love.
A fun, quick read mail order bride book that will have you glued from start to finish!! Definitely highly recommend these books!! Grab your copy and enjoy this couples journey to HEA!!
When Harriet the matchmaker moves to Seattle, she leaves the business and house to Elizabeth Miller the sister of a previous mail order bride.
Bertha elopes after requesting to be matched with Connor. Millie, her best friend, takes her place and travels to Idaho to be a wife to Connor who is expecting a good cook to help at the restaurant. Millie's father owns a hotel and restaurant, but she has never worked nor cooked in her life. Can she become the wife Connor needs?
This story has the least angst of all this series. Millie knows that she can learn to cook and Connor is patient teaching her. She is a successful help mate to Connor in a short time. Too bad she isn't satisfied with that.
I really liked the wedding night scene where Connor brushes Millie's long hair after her bath. It sets a sweet tone for their wedding night. More men should be so thoughtful.
Another fun little mail order bride gone wrong story. Millie's friend was supposed to be the bride but she eloped and left Conner hanging on the hopes of getting a wife. Millie decides to take Berta's place. Everything that could go wrong does. This story is full of humor and in the end wishes coming true. Book 12 of the Brides of Beckham.
While I love this series, I was a little annoyed by how superficial this story felt. I loved the humor and premise of story but Millie was just too naive for me to feel connected to the lot line and characters. Even the way Connor and Millie interacted seemed contrived.
I enjoyed this story, but it was too short. That may have been a good thing though because the heroine is annoying. She always comes up with crazy ideas that she thinks are wonderful, even though they don't go the way she wants. The hero seemed wonderful, but we didn't get to know him as much as I would have liked.
Millie took her friends place as a mail order bride, because the friend got married while waiting for an answer to her letter. Millie's dad called her a minx. When you read this book you will find out why.
Another Good Story, But it seemed like I had just got into the Story and it was the end. Sorry but the last two Stories disappointed me. Shirley Ketcham
