Lia Meyers' plan for a relaxing Scottish vacation is short-lived when one uncharacteristic moment of clumsiness lands her in the arms of a dangerously attractive Englishman.
The perfect opportunity for a much needed holiday romance? Wrong! Lia’s still reeling from the mother of all bad breakups, and she really doesn't have the patience for Alastair Holden – despite his effortless charm and sexy British accent.
Arrogant and totally inscrutable, he's exactly the sort of guy she wants to avoid but can't: the man behind the mystery proves just too tempting to resist.
Drawn to him, Lia is forced to battle with her own insecurities, and the closer they become, the more she recognizes her own weaknesses as she peels away his layers with every night they spend together. Discovering the past Alastair is so desperate to conceal, Lia must decide if they can heal one another together or if their deepest fears will tear them apart.
Lynn Montagano writes contemporary romance with darker themes and emotionally complex characters.
She's a cat mom, unapologetic football fan, and has a thing for Tony Stark. When Lynn isn't writing, you can most likely find her cheering loudly for her beloved New England Patriots, trying to herd cats, or traveling somewhere (probably London).
Catch My Breath: Lynn Montagano Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Well..WOW! Lynn's début novel is certainly a cracker. I really got pulled into the story, angry at Alistair so much that sometimes I was wanting Lia to SCREAM at him “Stop being a jerk!!” He was so loving one moment then- off like a light switch, cold, blank-faced and unfeeling. Poor Lia, she deserved better...Of course as time goes on we see there's more to him that that, he's got some demons from his past that make him behave this way, but Lia too has her share of problems, yet tries hard not to let them impact upon their relationship – she doesn't always succeed but at least she shares with him. When he has problems he just shuts her out, and that she can't deal with. Rightly so, a relationship is a two person process, it can't function if just one is taking part. I'm sure this book is going to get comments that it's very reminiscent of FsoG. It's inevitable there's overlap in some books, there's only so many ways one can write a romance, and only so many excuses for bad behaviours. I feel though that yes I did get a fifty feeling, but that Lynn has put her own stamp on the story, swung it round and made it her own book, and given a new slant to parts. There's a myriad of novels following that hero/heroine with a tortured past theme, and some are good some not so, this one for me works well. I was so angry at Alistair part of the time and yet felt for him too. I loved Lia, loved her independence, and that she wasn't a simpering vapid heroine, but a strong lady who'd worked and struggled to overcome and get out of a relationship where she was under severe stress. That takes guts especially when the man is as powerful as her ex. I have to feel I like the main characters, that I can laugh and cry with them, and these two were perfect for me. It ends with a HEA – but I just feel that there's enough problems encountered that aren't really solved, just solved for now, and that there's potential for more from Lia and Alistair – that they will continue to have problems, that the exes on both sides won't give up that easily, and that both of them still have work to do before they can be totally happy together. I feel they've really got a happy for now, and that another book about them would make me feel more confident about them having a happy ever after :-) Some books get strung out when they could be a stand alone, this one is the reverse, it's a good standalone but I feel it could still deliver more. Hope so anyway, and I've asked Lynn if there's more planned. I'll edit my review when I have a response if there is more to come from these two.... Its priced at £2.48 for 260 pages. Stars: loved it – four and a half. I'd have gone five except I feel they need a bit more work before they get a solid HEA. ARC received via Netgalley Edit: I contacted Lynn over whether there was more to come and there is – hurrah! Not long to wait either!! This is her reply:- “This is the first book in a trilogy, so there is more to their story. The second one is called Unravel Me and is due for release this July =)”
Loved this book. It was one of those books I picked up and I didn't want to put it down to do anything. It was really engrossing. Lia and Alastair has just the right amount of chemistry and back and forth that I was hooked to see what happened next. They both had interesting back stories and jobs. They lived an ocean apart and the author did a fantastic job of weaving it all together to a satisfying end. It is a really fast, engrossing read. Highly recommend.
Good first book of this series. Got a little annoyed with Lia's paranoid behavior about her ex and when Alistair moved even slightly wrong. Curious to see how the next book continues on
Catch My Breath is another one of those reads that kept me turning the pages to find out what was going to happen. It's one of those romances where the characters have a jaded or traumatic past that is hidden and because of that the author drip feeds and hints at what has happened to them, building intrigue and suspense that keeps you turning the pages rapidly without being able to stop. However, despite saying that and although I did enjoy reading this books, parts of it did frustrate me and I hard time with some of it, leaving me with the overall feeling that it's an okay read.
I found it really hard to get into Catch My Breath. I felt the start was really fragmented and jumpy and the way the characters pushed each other away and pulled them back gave me whiplash. One minute they were all over each other and the next they were either angry or saying nothing could happen. I can handle this a few times but not to the extent it happened in Catch My Breath as it took part of the believability out of the book for me. The times also jumped around a little and I felt that everything could have flowed better for an easier reading experience.
However, saying that, the book did pick up and I'm glad I hung in there. The writing started to flow better as the relationships became more solid and the time linked from one day to the next seamlessly. By the end of it I thought the writing had improved drastically and although I found myself wishing the start could have been like it too, it shows the potential of this author. I think this book was a grower more than anything.
One thing I liked was the information was withheld for quite a while with only little hints at what had happened. I liked that they both had a past and were still struggling to ope with it but found each other despite it. On the other hand though, I couldn't understand why Alastair kept giving orders when Lia had issues with possessive, controlling men. They way she just took them frustrated me and due to the amount of times she reinforced the point about what happened with her ex, it didn't seem very realistic.
There was one thing that really pleased me with this book and that was that it didn't throw all of the British stereotypes that Americans think we do into one book. There was some banter surrounding British slang which was playful and flirty and by no means annoying like with other books I have read. It's one thing that worries me when I see a novel et in England by American authors but Lynn Montagano pulled it off.
Overall Catch My Breath was a good read. It definitely grew on me and I'm glad I stuck with it. It had its faults but in general it was a good romance that kept me entertained.
First things first... the reason I didn't rate it 5 stars. It's really hard to stay involved in a story when one of the characters really grates on you. For the most part I liked Lia, but I found myself getting more and more frustrated with her. And Alastair was a douche. like almost all the time. OK maybe not most of the time but he blew so hot and cold all the time I got whiplash. Which had me wondering exactly why Lia liked him so much.
I felt the story unfolded a little at the wrong pace. Like Lia's past relationship with Nathan, it felt like bits of information should have been leaked to us a little earlier than it was, that the confrontation with him at Lia's home should have been more than it was. But also from Alistair's side of things, we find out he has some crazy stalker girl but other than the fact that he 'monitors her email' (*insert sarcastic tone* which isn't creepy at all ) we know nothing of her. The reason he keeps himself to himself and doesn't venture into relationships seems obvious and with the exception of his big secret that we find out at the end I think we could have gotten to know him a bit more a little earlier. This would have helped me like him a little more. I have to admit to softening to him quite a lot after his secret came out, though I had kinda guessed what it might be.
Now that deals with the things I wasn't so happy about, and you'd be forgiven for thinking maybe the book isn't worth reading at all, but that couldn't be further from the truth. There wasn't a single point in this book where I thought I could just walk away from it. I had to keep reading. Montagano has done a great job of keeping the reader engaged throughout. The chemistry between the couple was A-MAZ-ING!! And I'm not just talking between the sheets amazing, though that was pretty fantastic, I'm talking all the time. The every day chatter. The teasing. Truth be told it reminded me of the way my husband and I talk to each other most days.
I have just discovered that this is Montagano's debut novel and I think she has done a great job. I look forward to reading more from her in the future.
Ok so picture this, I'm at my desk in my dressing gown when I start pacing my room, up and down I go reading my kindle. Why you may ask well its because Catch My Breath is deliciously frustrating, with leading characters that are so damaged they are their own worst enemy! You are desperate to find out what has caused so much trauma and chaos in their lives. Leading lady Lia is scarred by her past relationship. Dating the son of a senator she has dealt with over inflated egos, demanding and controlling natures before, but nothing can prepare her for broody Englishman Alastair Reid Holden! Alastair heir to a massive multimedia company is not your typical hero, no he is my favourite type of man he is an anti-hero damaged and broken with impenetrable shields blocking out all emotion and complications he has rules but these rules don't apply when the lovely Lia falls into his life! I loved the characters their turmoil infused with charm and humour its fabulous, their ride isnt easy! They have a hell of a battle on their hands, a battle to break each others barriers and show each other that the past doesnt define who they are, that they do deserve love and they are not broken they are worth saving The writing style is fresh and the play on words and references to English slang was brilliant, being English I really enjoyed that immensely. You really get involved with the characters you're attached to them, you're left wanting more from them begging them to open up. Lynn Montagano write with finesse and Catch Your Breath is not your average love story! Once I got to the last page I freaked out! Seriously I tweeted the author because I didn't know it was a series, this is going to be one hell of a series, full of questions, full of answers that we are desperate to know, Its going to be Fabulous, because nothing says I Love You more than defeating your own demons and letting go, but can Lia and Alastair survive, what will be next for them, will the past come back to haunt them once again? I NEED TO KNOW!!!!!
Firstly thank you to NetGalley and Harper Impulse for approving me for a review copy of this book. I requested it at the same time I requested Crazy, Undercover, Love by Nikki Moore. If you've liked either one of these you will like the other.
The story is all about MC Lia. She comes to Scotland for her sister's wedding and to escape from her crazy ex boyfriend and his stalker-ish tendencies. There she meets Alastair and is drawn to his charm.
This was a really weird read for me at first because of the setting of the story! It's set between Glasgow and Orlando, I'm from a town near Glasgow but I was actually holidaying in Orlando when I read it! Also, the football ground in the story happens to be based on my boyfriend's team which I suspected throughout but wasn't entirely sure until I read more about Lynn's inspiration for the story on the Harper Impulse website.
Lia is the narrator throughout the story which is good because we get to know her really well, but it also deepens the mystery behind Alastair and his character. The only thing that disappointed me with Alastair was that he himself wasn't Scottish!
Lia is generally quite easy going and pretty easy to get to like. She has a rather nasty relationship history and Alastair seems to be like the antidote for that. He's a complex characters with a past and baggage of his own. He has the whole "don't do relationships" thing going on but we all know they all say that until the right woman comes along. The relationship between Alastair and Lia isn't all hearts and flowers though. The start of their relationship is really quick which I think causes some of the upset later when the characters don't know everything about each other and haven't really had the chance to develop a fuller relationship.
The story is quite fast paced as the characters cross the Atlantic a few times to be with each other but as I've said isn't without it's mishaps which creates a depth to the story and makes for an interesting read. I will definitely be looking out for more from Lynn after reading this.

Lia Meyers has all sorts of plan's for a chilled out relaxing Scottish vacation, but that is short-lived when one moment of sheer clumsiness lands her in the very arms of a sinfully attractive Englishman…
Could This be the perfect opportunity for a well needed holiday romance? ..... Heck no! Lia is still reeling from the worst breakup ever. she doesn't have the time and she really doesn't have the patience for Alastair Holden, despite his sexy swagger and charm as well as British accent!
This Arrogant and totally impenetrable man is just exactly the sort she avoids like the plague but can't.... this is just way too tempting for her to resist she is so drawn to him.
Lia has a battle on her hands with her own insecurities, and the closer the get together, the more she is coming to recognise her weaknesses as each night she peels away his very layers bit by bit with each night that they spend with one another.
But soon she discovers the very past that Alastair has and is so desperate to hide away, now Lia has a big decision will she decide if they can heal one another together? or if their fears will tear them apart for good.
I found the beginning of the book slow and hard to get in to, it was a bit all over the place and the characters were a bit pushy pully i want you nope i don't want you. it wasn't very believable for me how many times can you seriously go there ?
But i stuck in there and carried on towards the middle i found the book had a much better flow and the writer was getting in to the flow of things. And that's where i seen the biggest change and the characters relationship then became seamless.
I really enjoyed the banter in this book it was a nice change to have them think we British people are not stereotyped :) yes we have slang just like any other country.
I think in time the author will keep getting better and better i can see she has it in her.
3 out of 5 Fangs From Paranormal Authors That Rock
4.5 Stars The story of Amelia Grace Meyers and Alastair Holden kept me turning the pages until I reached the end (at 1:30 a.m.). I just couldn't put it down. Both of them are broken souls that are not looking for a relationship. He is the CFO and heir to his grandfather's multi-media empire. She is a television producer in Orlando, Florida. They meet in Glasgow, Scotland, where Alastair lives. Amelia is there for her sister's wedding. After running into Alastair (literally), Lia is feeling stirrings that she thought were long dead - killed by her stalking ex-boyfriend, Nathan. Alastair doesn't do relationships, but keeps being drawn back into Lia's orbit. Why does she make him have feelings? He fights them - which actually makes him act like a jerk - but Lia sees a vulnerability flash in him at times that she wants to explore. He, is not willing to open up. The story is their journey to each other.
This is a hard book to review without spoiling. It focuses on Amelia and Alastair's delicate on again/off again relationship. I would like to have known more about her relationship with her ex, Nathan, There are references made about Alastair's exes, but they are also not explained. Amelia had questions about them, but she never asked. It was also never really explained why Alastair "doesn't do" relationships. You make the assumption that it is because he fears getting close to anyone - that he fears loss. It was definitely a gut-wrenching journey for these two. I loved that Amelia was a strong character when it came to her job and her ability to stand up to Alastair. He was not accustomed to hearing the word "No" and their banter with each other was fun and brought a break to the tension and angst. I feel there is more to their story, and look forward to reading it. This book does NOT have a cliffhanger ending. Thank goodness for that!
This is a wonderful debut novel for Lynn Montagano. I see good things on the horizon, and can't wait to read her next book.
'Catch My Breath' encompasses many of the things I love in a contemporary romance.
Lia is smart and independent. Alastair Holden is sexy, rich and interested. Our couple's perfect cute meet occurs because of Lia's clumsiness. The setting is interesting and diverse. The antagonist is malevolent and the scenes with Lia full of menace. I expected billionaire pursues young feisty woman who has a troublesome ex and I wasn't disappointed but the story is far more complex than this.
Lia discovers Alastair's controlling nature something she should avoid given her abusive ex lover. Certain she can help him overcome past hurts she risks her own heart to save him. It's easy to sympathise with Alastair after the traumatic incident in his childhood but when his insensitivity hurts Lia already vulnerable and fighting her own past he comes across like a spoilt child. Lia and Alastair find their happy for now but are very much a work in progress.
'Catch My Breath' is a realistic love story which looks beyond the glamour of international business and television and explores whether love has a future if the couple are damaged by their past. Written in the 1st person, full of angst and passion this story will make you catch your breath.
I received a copy of this book from Harper Impulse via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

In Catch My Breath, the first of the Breathless series, we meet Lia and Alastair. Lia is on a trip to the United Kingdom for her sisters wedding. During an unexpected encounter she falls into the arms of very attractive and arrogant, Alastair. Although immediately attracted to him, she is determined to fight anything between them.
She is still dealing with a bad breakup and a crazy ex, Nathan, who we get to see throughout the story as well. Their relationship was awful and having walked away from him, she just isn’t ready for anything with anyone new or a one-night stand.
Alastair is very reserved and closed off and that is not what Lia wants in a potential partner anyway, but their attraction toward each other can only be ignored for so long.
Once they give in to their desires, the book takes off and has many twists, ups and downs, intense moments, and lots of unexpected ones as well.
I loved the character development and plot. It was very original and I’m sure there will be even more nail biting moments in the next two books! These two are meant to be together, but with her past and his family history, it will be a challenge for them to overcome together!
This being the first of their story, I can’t wait to dive into the next one and see what the future holds for these two.
Alastair is the type of boy who doesn't like to be disturbed when he has his game face on with a woman, "Oi! We're off to eat, mate. Come on," and impatient, stocky man yelled. Tall, dark and sexy clearly didn't enjoy being at the receiving end of that. His expression hardened as he turned around. I could only imagine the look he gave the other guy. It must have been scathing because the poor soul abruptly left." Alastair is amused by the weirdest things, "my kitten has claws." His smug grin irked me." I need to give props to Lia the girl knows how to hold her ground, "I groaned and gave him a look. "Just wrong. I don't know what your deal is but this sex-with-no-attachment-thing isn't the type of relationship I'm into. It sounds too cold." And if he thinks anyone his hurting his woman the boy goes all damn caveman, "the hell it doesn't," he hissed. "Tell me his name." He can be a bossypants but Lia doesn't mind when she a gets a nice view, "I'd grown quite fond of his choice in sleepwear. Those cotton bottoms hugged his butt nicely. "Enjoying the view?" he asked with a cooked smile. "Go stand by the windows. Please." I loved reading this book, it kept me entertained when I didn't want to kill Alastair.
I received a copy for free in exchange for an honest review.
Starting out I was really annoyed with this book. The way Alastair was with Amelia. I wanted to slap both of them. He would give her mixed signals and even I was confused by his actions.
There was a lot of; we can't do this, I want to be with you, but no we can't. I beginning to get frustrated but eventually I understood where they were coming from. Each of them has a past, one that they can't seem to escape. Stalking and taking photos. A billion text messages. I can understand their reluctance.
Throughout the story, I found that Alastair was a mystery. But slowly things would roll out. He has a way with women. Amelia feels that, but listens to her heart mostly. She is pretty straight forward and knows when something may be too much.
This really is an interesting love story. It's not your typical love story. It's a bit more realistic. They deal with a lot of things that would be really relatable. Overall, this was a good story....Lissa
This is the debut book for this author and I thought it was fantastic. The story line is awesome, I was hooked right from the start. I loved meeting Lia Meyers and Alastair Holden. I felt the characters were developed and enjoyed reading about them. The story is about Lia and her friend Stephanie going to Lia’s sister’s wedding in London, but first Lia and Stephanie go to Glasgow to meet up with Stephanie’s friend. They were at a bar and Lia was coming out of the bathroom and tripped right into an attracted man. Lia is not interested at all, she just went through a break up and doesn’t want to deal with men. Alastair Holden seems like the type of man who gets what he wants. But he has a past, and issues he needs to overcome. Alastair lives in Scotland and Lia lives in Orlando. I felt this story was interesting enough to catch my interest right from the start. Yes some of it is typical of this type of story where billionaire falls for a girl not interested in his money. But this story was fun to read and I loved the adventure to it and that Lia doesn’t take any crap from Alastair and holds her own. I did receive a copy of this book from the author for an honest opinion.
Ameila and her best friend take a trip to Scotland for a wedding and the last thing she needs right now is the complications of meeting someone new. But they keep running into one another and decide to see where it goes. But both Amelia and Alastair are pretty damaged from their pasts. I liked this book I couldn’t put it down I read it in 3 days. I really liked Alastair, just like our character Amelia I am a sucker for handsome sultry men with accents. I could just imagine meeting someone like him in real life. Amelia’s little problem with a certain someone from her past is part of the book that keeps you guessing along with Alastair trying to figure out if he can actually do a relationship. All in all I would say I enjoyed the book I had to finish it. I would say this is more for older readers as there is some sex in it, it may make you a little hot under the collar. I would have to give the book a 4 out of 5 fangs. ***Reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock
Catch My Breath by Lynn Montagano is the first in the Catch My Breath series. It is the romance story of Lia and Alastair. Lia is in Scotland for her sisters wedding having traveled from America to be there for the festivities. Alastair is swoon-worthy British hottie that is friends with her roommate's Scottish connection.
A well-paced story with information about each of their pasts being doled out piece-meal throughout the story. This leaves you eagerly awaiting the next tid-bit, unable to put down the story.
While the overall tale is not unique in and of itself, it was an enjoyable read.
I really enjoy reading books where the main characters are not perfect and this book is one of those. Both Amelia and Alastair don't do relationships and are not your typical romantics. When they bump into each other they are thrown into each other's worlds and even though they both are reluctant to do anything, neither can deny what they begin to feel for each other. This story is like a car ride because it is how the characters travel towards each other and even though they hit potholes, the ride is worth it. The story also has a lot of curves and twists in the road and I do not want to give anything away because this is a book deserving to be read. The characters make the book enjoyable and will hold your interest throughout.
I read the start of this book on a budding authors site a few years ago and enjoyed it. Imagine my delight when I found it had been published. I still remembered it and now I know how it ends. A great story, playing with the differences between the British and the Yanks. A sexy hero and plenty of troubles to work through. Can't go wrong!
I loved the book. Liz was great and I liked her character. She had a career, she handled herself well, and really gave her new relationship time and consideration after a bad relationship had hurt her previously. I got ARC from Netgalley. I loved the cover btw.
This is everything a romantic novel should be, passion, romance, intrigue, mystery and brilliant sex with a man who is every girls dream. You want to read a romance novel, then this is the one for you, best one I have read in a long time. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED A MUST READ
