In Love with Lucy

Rate this book
I’ve been looking forward to this day for the last three years.

The day I quit my job as an assistant to the worst boss ever. Christopher James Barden the Third is a grumpy, sarcastic perfectionist who says exactly what he’s thinking, no matter how hurtful. He may be pretty to look at but he’s a gigantic pain in the behind.

And I can finally tell him that I’m done.

I expected frustration, anger, or even aloof acceptance.

What I didn’t anticipate is that my boss wanted me in a completely different position in his life. One that put me in his bed.

Since I've discovered this author, I've seemed to have gobbled up every single thing she's written.

I love Ms. Wood's voice, writing, humor, and characters... and she did not disappoint with this story!

This is a short, sweet, funny story!

The characters were well developed.
The story-line was great, and the writing amazing!
Chris and Lucy are awesome together, and it was wonderful reading their journey to one another.

Boss. Attraction. Assistant. It's been 3 years and now he's making a play for her once she decides to leave? Attraction must not have been that strong then 'cause both of them have been happy go lucky before that point.

What a fun & sexy read! I immediately fell in love with Lucy! You are going to hear that from most if not all that read this novella! Lucy is a woman we can all relate to, a woman that we would quickly become friends with.

Lucy’s dreams of becoming a photographer are finally taking off. Now she can put her assistance job aside and pursue her passion. One problem…Christopher James Barden the Third. Her very sexy, very gruff, and very intimidating boss. For the past 3 years she has worked alongside this very difficult man and now when it’s time to put him in the past, is when he decides he can’t let her go.

I love a dark read but I will jump into the Teacher/student or office romance any day, they are my guilty pleasures. C.C Wood gave me exactly what I want. She delivered a hot alpha, strong woman and some very sexy smoldering scenes. This 4 star read is one that I think you will read again and again. It’s perfect for on the beach, a long train ride, or to get that office quickie you keep thinking about. As it is a novella I can’t say much without giving away spoilers, and that’s something I never do. Just know that the author delivers a wonderfully fun romance, amusing secondary characters, and a story that will put a smile on your face, and warm your heart (and other bits ツ )

Where to start? From the word go, I enjoyed this book. As soon as I started, I wanted to know if there would be a second book and who it would be about. I held my questions until the end. Well most of them. This book is a great read. It's funny, sexy, hot, and most likely something I could and would read again. And I'm not big on re-reads.

Here's a little quote from the book....

" He glanced down at my phone, then his eyes widened as he stared at the screen. I snatched it up to see that Tanya's newest message was a picture of an enormous purple double penetrator dildo and her message read, You are obviously in need of this."

Another great read by C.C. Wood. I'll be waiting impatiently for the next book in the series.

Just call her the Queen of Denial.

After working for Chris for 3 years, Lucy had no idea that he was attracted to her nor did she allow herself to entertain any thoughts beyond the employer-employee relationship with him. This wasn't actually surprising as he had shown her he could be a major PITA and had a string of short-term relationships. So when she is close to realizing her personal dream and gives her notice, she finds herself dealing with a change in their relationship that she never saw coming and the gloves come off.

Needless to say, I freaking loved this book. The interactions between Chris and Lucy are hilarious. Both have strong personalities and while Lucy might be his assistant, she doesn't hesitate to put him in his place. This makes for a very entertaining read and some serious sexual tension. And Ms. Wood does not disappoint when these two finally get together. What is it about a man in a suit that makes the sex that much hotter? Whew!

In Love With Lucy is a quick read that kept me entertained from beginning to end. I cannot wait until the next book in the Not Safe For Work series is released.

In Love with Lucy was light, fun and pretty steamy read.
Of course, I'd experienced the "oh, no, do not give in, be strong, woman" moments while reading it, but that was just a little black spot on bright and shiny platter of awesomeness.

Lucy has been working for a sexy ass of a man for 3 long years. She has been working under him but secretively he would like her to just be under him. Lucy has been working as an assistant but her true passion is Photography. When a successful showing of her work propels her to put in her notice to Chris, he uses that as an excuse to finally make his feelings and intentions known to her.

This novella by C.C. Wood is a funny, smart and super sexy read. Being a novella I do not want to delve to far into it so that I don’t give anything away. This story had me from the beginning since I love a workplace romance and I was surprised how much I fell in love with Chris. The forceful way he pursued Lucy had me tingling in all the right spots and still it came off very sweet too!

Not only were the two characters so much fun for me but I am in LOVE with Lucy’s friends and I really hope each one of them gets their own story line. For me, Novella’s are often hit or miss since it can be hard to put a well formed story into a short amount of time. For me this is where C.C. Wood excels where so many others have failed. She always seems to know just the right mix of story line, humor and steam! I enjoyed every minute of In Love With Lucy and cannot wait for more from this series.

Oh EM GEE... Chris Barden is the boss everyone dreams about -- except the woman that works for him. Lucy doesn't have time to deal with his crap or anyone else's. She's forcused on doing her job as his assistant and of following her dream of being a professional photographer.

After three years of being his personal assistant, she has no idea that the man even likes her much less sees her in something other than a professional light. When she realizes that Chris does in fact notice her and for more than her typing skills, Lucy figuratively runs for the hills.

Even her friends are on "his" side... what's a girl to do? Should she go with the flow and be his booty call? What happens if he wants more? Can she have a relationship and a career?

Read the book to find out how a smart ass assistant and hard nosed boss (according to Lucy) make their way along the bumpy path of love.

In Love With Lucy
In Love With Lucy (NSFW 1) by C.C. Wood
Stand alone novella series. Each book features a different character.

C.C. Wood is the novella queen. This is her 6th standalone novella and I must say, they keep getting better. I know a lot of you avoid novellas thinking that a) it's the beginning of a serial or b) they are too short to get a full story. With CC's books, however, you get neither. Each of her books stand alone, and give a full story in less pages, but they don't leave you feeling like you ate half a slice of pizza.

In Love with Lucy is the first in the Not Safe For Work Series of novellas. They seem like they will each be about a different friend, which is great, because CC writes groups of girlfriends so well! Her characters are normal, with quirks, foul mouths, and lots of snarkiness.

Lucy has been working for her very cold, very serious boss for three years. He also happens to be very gorgeous. Though she realizes he is hot, she never allowed herself to think of him that way, since all she thought about was that he had a huge stick up his ass. Lucy is a photographer as well, and at her first showing, her boss surprisingly showed up to support her, and proceeded to claim her and treat her differently than he ever did before.
"Holy shit, my boss just beat the strongest man I know at the alpha handshake game"

Lucy doesn't get it. She's either had her head in the sand for 3 years or she is excellent at denial. But when her boss Chris decided to step it up a notch after three years, there was no denying the chemistry.
"Maybe I was in an alternate reality. That was the only explanation for the sudden magnetism between Chris and I. For the last three years, while I had appreciated the sheer beauty he possesses, it was nothing but business. Now he was looking me over like he intended to lick me from head to toe".

Believe me, her attraction, no matter how much she tried to deny it, was there too.
"Over the course of a weekend, my attitude went from all business to give me the business"

But oh my, when Lucy gave in to Chris...

Damn, that C.C. can write some HOT alpha-male sex!

"He devoured me as though he wanted to eat me alive..."

Likes:

•Lucy is a very strong, independent character, so is Chris. The interaction between them...BOOM.
•This was a quick 1-2 sitting read (about 120 pages, 140 in print) yet I never felt like it was missing anything.
•I loved Lucy's friends!
•Totally hot alpha male sex.
•Funny at times, but never over the top.
•Realistic characters.
•Great set up for future books centered around other characters.

Dislikes:

•The stereotypical gay character, especially with the name Davide.

Rating: 5 star (novella rating) 4.5 Heat

Flame_FOURHalf copy

In Love With Lucy by C.C. Wood felt like a full-length book that just read quickly. While some novellas seem too short, or like they are missing something, I never felt that way while reading this. As much as I would have liked more (of course, we always want more from the books we love), it certainly didn't need more of anything. Anything else would have been fluff or filler.

In Love with Lucy had everything I love in a book: great secondary characters, strong female lead, and hot and sexy alpha, great sex, funny lines and more. No, it wasn't an epic read, it may not stick with me, but I loved every second of it when I read it.

Lucy is a photographer who has been working as an assistant to Christopher James Barden the Third, or the Beast for the past three years while she builds up a nest egg and can go out on her own and really pursue her dreams. She’s finally doing her own show and has given her notice to Chris, but he’s taken it as his chance to finally show Lucy how much he wants her - and what the Beast wants, he gets.

My Review
Novellas are such a tricky thing - the plotting absolutely has to be on point because you simply don’t have the page count to mess around with. Lucy and Chris have fantastic chemistry and it doesn’t feel like insta-love because there is enough history shown and told to really back up those feelings. Their love scenes have the right amount of heat and Chris has fantastic alpha hero moves - he’s a dirty talker and man, super smexy.

Lucy is frustrating, but self-aware and realizes she’s panicking, and her friends (there are four, and I assume they’ll eventually get their own books) are there to give her the straight poop when she spazzes out.

I would have liked to have known more about why she’s so determined to protect her feelings, since it’s alluded to, but never fully explained.

The Bottom Line
I really liked this novella, and I’m eager to read more in this series.

Not too Bad

3-3.5
This is the second time that I read this. My rating was four but I didn’t remember any details since I read it a few years ago. I changed my original rating because my tastes have apparently changed in the last few years.

Spoilers
I liked most of the story but it really bothered me that Chris was in love with Lucy for three years yet sleeps around for almost two of those years instead of telling her how he feels. Not only did he sleep around but she had to deal with many of these conquests when they came looking for him at his office. He later gets mad at her for throwing his past in his face when she mentions it saying it wasn’t fair for her to do. I think she had every right because she had to personally deal with these women because he didn’t want to bother. That’s just mean. I knocked two stars off for Chris being a thoughtless manwhore.

Safety and Spoilers
Safe. No om/ow drama. H was a manwhore for the first two years h worked for him, h had to frequently get rid of his conquests when they showed up at his office, h had been celibate for a long time. No abuse.

Lucy took a job 3 years ago with an unbearable boss in hopes of saving money to really pursue her passion, photography. Fast forward 3 years, Lucy’s dreams are about to come true and then Christopher James Barden the Third comes to her show and everything changes after that. Three years of pent up attraction comes out and takes you on an entertaining ride with Chris and Lucy.

Characters: The characters are so loveable and they feel just like friends and family.

Sex: oh yeah, hot and steamy

Religious: no

Would I recommend to others: yes

More than one book in the series: hopefully

Genre: Romance

Would I read more by this author: yes

Sweet, but kinda forgettable. I had to reread the Preface to remember the characters and plot. True, I read a couple of books before reviewing, but it shouldn't have been that hard. All that said, I really did enjoy this short, but feisty RomCom.

The book starts well, so well that your hopes get up. I would've probably given this book two stars if, in contrast with the rest of the book, the beginning wasn't so well done.
Please beware of spoilers ahead and read at your own peril. The book begins at the heroine's opening night at a gallery. We are first given a tantalizing flashback peek to three years ago, when she got hired at her day job, and then to present day, when said boss suddenly shows up. And without any preliminary anything, SUDDENLY makes a move on her, and then just a few pages later says he loves her. Cue inner conflict of the scaredy cat heroine, her friends setting her head straight, and you have a happily ever after. The reason I didn't abandon ship in the middle as is my wont, was A. The shortness of the whole book, and B. How the heroine was refreshingly a self respecting, confident, secure woman in her own skin. Something you rarely if ever come across in romance books.

Would I ever recommend this book? No, of course not. Strain your eye on the screen rays of your tablet over something else. You'd be much better off organising your picture library in my opinion.

Note:

Of course, he loved her but slept around for 2 of the 3 years she was his assistant. Of course, she was celibate the entire time. Of course, as his assistant, she had to deal with/ handle the many women he was with.

This. This nonsense is one of the reasons I avoid office romance. 🙄

This was a cute read that confirmed that I secretly love any story where the boss falls in love with his admin. Don’t ask me why; I just do. So with that being said, I got caught up in this story and was slightly disappointed that it was a novella. I’m starting to have a love/hate relationship with these shortened books that suck me in and end all in a few hours. Hmph!

Anywho, here are some random thoughts of mine on this book in no particular order:

1. Let’s be honest, I wanted Lucy to bang Chris almost immediately. I couldn’t take the sexual tension that radiated off them. First with his hand on her hips that burned her skin. Then the unexpected graze of his finger along the edge of her strapless red dress. She was clearly affected by his presence and touch. She was flustered and frustrated by him all at the same time. I kept thinking “girl, you know you want that d!” How crass and whorish of me I know! But you knew it was inevitable, and clearly her friends did too. Matter of fact, the only person who didn’t know that Lucy and Chris were going to sleep together was Lucky.

2. And when they did finally have sex, it was hot, passionate, and intense. Fireworks anyone? He devoured her, literally. LOL!

description

3. The pissing contest between Marcus and Chris was hilarious. When Marcus’ face blanched, jaw went tight, and arm went limp from a handshake with Chris, I literally laughed at loud. Yes, Chris was the victor so Marcus needed to back off!

4. Speaking of Marcus, I was curious to know if he had a crush on her or was it strictly platonic on his end. And didn’t he have bad timing…..

5. Lucy’s a girl after my own heart. An artist trapped in Corporate America. A woman who spoke her mind. The only thing I found irritating about her was how quick she dismissed Chris’ feelings for her. Come on Lucy! Tear down those walls.

6. And let’s be clear, Chris Braden could have gotten it from me. Handsome. Light blue eyes (p.s. I think I am sucker for blue eyes). Possessive. Smart. Typical Alpha Male. Hot sex. Compassionate. Considerate. And ready for love…. Swoon!

description

7. I loved her friends. They were a great group of girls especially Grier and Tanya. Grier was insightful, and Tanya told her how it was. Good for them. Everyone needs someone like them in their life.

8. I hope the next book deals with Grier and +++++. =)

So yes, I liked it. I can’t wait to read more in this series. 5 stars for me!

Please add this book on Goodreads! You can also buy this book from Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

I am a big fan of Author C.C. Wood and all I can say is she has went and done it again . She has hit this one way out of the park. Those who don't read this don't know what they are missing.

As I sat down and started reading this book I knew this was going to be a very good book. I fell in love with the book and all the characters right away. I could not put this book down because once I started reading I got so additive. This but was full of so emotional roller coaster of emotions that had me on the edge of my seat at times. This book show you that some times dreams do come true and some times you get a extra rewards for making them come true. This book is full of sexy hot men that will have you drooling. The sexual chemistry is so hot in this book you will need a cold shower by the time you are done.

Lucy Daniels has been working for same company for three years and it has not been easy for her. Finally all her hard work is paying off. Because her dreams are now finally coming true but all her friends think she crazy. She has great paying job that takes all over the world. She all so has a boss that will have any women panty soaking wet with only one look from him. But her boss Christopher James Barden the Third is not a easy person to work for because he know what he want and he does not care what it cost to get it so make him look like a prick a lot. But the one thing Lucy does not know about her boss is that he is head over heals in love with her. So when she decide to give her notice to quit working for her boos so that she can fallow her dreams. Christopher will stop at nothing to try to get her to stay and when that does not work he put what he feel all out for her .She is so blown away because she does not see it coming but her friend I told you so.

Will she fallow her dreams or will she give up for dreams for love.

Their is so much more juiciest to this book that I have not even talked about . I cant wait to read more form this author in the future.

Most of the time, when I find out about a book and it’s a novella, I just say pass. To me they tend to be stories that just seem unfinished and lacking a lot of the substance that is required to be great. There are very few who can rock a novella and make it feel like a full length story, and C.C. Wood is one of them! C.C. Wood does novellas and she does them AMAZINGLY! You get a full awesome story all compacted into a nice tiny little package!

In Love With Lucy is the first book in a new series, and I can’t wait to get my hands on the rest. As with the majority of C.C.’s series, this series will focus around a group of friends, with each novella focusing on someone different. And I promise, you will find yourself wanting to be a part of this group. They are fun, snarky, straight forward, take no shit types of girls! I found myself laughing with tears in my eyes at some of their comments to each other!

Our main character for the story is Lucy. She has been working for her boss for 3 years and is rejoicing over the fact that she is FINALLY able to quit and purse her dream of being a photographer. Her boss is a cold, hard, serious, no nonsense, kind of guy. He’s also REALLY REALLY HOT! He has been very difficult to work for the last 3 years, but Lucy has done so by giving as good as she got. She never put up with any of his crap and told him right from the start that she would not cower from him. When Lucy has her first showing for her photographs, Chris shows up and goes all alpha male marking his territory. This is the first time he’s ever acted this way towards Lucy, and the first time that she starts realizing there may be more to her boss that what there seems. I LOVED their interaction with each other. She fought the attraction to the bitter end, but once she gave in, boy did she give in. Talk about smokin’ hot! The sexual tension in this book was to the extreme!

I am absolutely in LOVE with Lucy and Chris and thoroughly enjoyed their story! I can’t wait for more from the Not Safe For Work Series!

I picked up In Love With Lucy because I wanted something light, funny, something that would instantly draw me in and hold me there, and C.C. Wood did not disappoint.

Lucy Daniels is a budding photographer, she has just been offered her dream job which means she can finally quit the job she has hated for the past 3 years, leaving behind her over bearing, arrogant, sex on a stick boss Chris Barden.

Lucy may be ready to resign and leave Chris behind, he on the other hand isn't ready to let her go. Chris wants Lucy, has wanted her for years, and now that Lucy will no longer be his employee means all bets are off and Chris is free to pursue Lucy, to get her in his bed and to keep her in his life.

As always, Wood's characters come to life and jump off the page, In Love With Lucy has enough mild angst to keep it interesting, enough funny one liners to keep you laughing, and enough melt your kindle moments to keep you blushing and fanning your face... The first book in the Not Suitable For Work series was a pleasure to read and I can't wait to see what happens next.

CC Wood writes great short stories. ILWL is no exception!

Lucy is an executive assistant to a CEO who is not necessarily the easiest to work with. She doesn't take any crap from him and this appears to make for a relatively good working relationship. While she finds him attractive, the less than warm personality he exudes makes him less attractive to her. She's also a fine arts photographer and her arts career is starting to take off so she resigns and that's when things heat up.

Fun to read, appropriate angst and mystery surrounding the boss and his attitude/intentions. She is probably the least observant character I've read in a little while, so that made this fun.

This has an HEA and no cliffhanger. I did not like the ending/epilogue... and I can't say why otherwise it's a spoiler.

I've read other books by C.C. so when I can I always try to read her books, and this is a great start to a new series. It's a quick read that you can read real fast in line at the grocery store. I love a strong willed heroine and Lucy is a strong one, "you didn't use the company card to pay for dinner, but your personal check card, as though this was a date." Chris is just as strong willed as Lucy, "he grabbed the base of my ponytail, using his grip on my hair to lift me to my toes. "I'm making it my goddamn business you and I both know there's something going on between us." He's also an impatient man, "the movement of his hands stopped and I whimpered. "Eff, now I have to eat you." He's so considerate and caring, "I knew you weren't feeling well, so I brought you some things to eat and some over-the-counter migraine medicine." I enjoyed this book.
