Sometimes the best things in life come from the unexpected. So if you lower your expectations, then you’ll never be disappointed. Sound cheesy? It is, but it's also true. Clichés come from a grain of truth…like a man with a Porsche is compensating for something, or once a cheater always a cheater—you get the idea. Sorry, I digress. I'm supposed to be telling you what this book is about.

I'm Megan Walker, a lawyer at one of the hottest boutique law firms in Atlanta. I'm on the fast track to making partner and have my entire life planned out...or I did.
We all know how that goes, right? Best laid plans and all that.
Life just threw me a couple curveballs, so I've set out to take things into my own hands. By throwing caution to the wind and getting out of my A-type personality bubble, I'm learning more about myself than I have in my twenty-seven years.
Sound like a chick flick, doesn't it?
It’s not.

Sunshine & Whiskey (Drinking, Part 1) by RL Griffin
4 stars!!

“Maybe you don’t go back, you go somewhere else, but it’s just as good. Maybe even better.”

This book is such a departure from RL Griffin’s usual writing style, so much so I couldn’t wait to read. I had watched her feed for teasers and excerpts and this only added to my own internal hype to get my grubby hands on this romantic comedy. I was also lucky enough to be a beta reader so had watched this book go from strength to strength over the months. RL Griffin has blown me away in the past with her romantic suspense type reads and this book goes to show just how versatile she is and that she can in fact turn her hand to anything she sets her mind to.

I had so many laugh out loud moments and it is rare to go from tears of laughter one minute to tears of sadness the next. There are not too many tears of sadness, but there was one scene that for a softie like me had me choked and bawling, RL Griffin never fails, she always makes me cry!

Megan is an extremely hardworking and successful lawyer, fighting her way to the top of the firm which is always difficult in a man’s world. She has the dedication, ambition, drive and determination and has the respect of her peers, shame the same couldn’t be said about her personal life. After her personal life as she knows it hits the skids she is forced to take a stock of herself and after an impulsive purchase ends up changing her life once again she throws caution to the wind. With her BFF finding herself in a similar situation...what should they do? ROAD TRIP!!

This book is a voyage of discovery for both women, a time to relax and be carefree, a time to find themselves, cherish their friendships and also make new ones. With plenty of man candy on the way as they make their way across country to Napa you cannot help but laugh at their male encounters. Some are hilarious and yet some obviously have deeper meanings and could be just what both girls need.

“...you already mourned the death of you and Peter three years ago. You need to fuck through it.”
She gyrates her hips at me. I can’t help but laugh at her antics. “Fuck through it?”

I loved the banter in this book; these two had such a fantastic relationship. They could cuss each other one minute, call each other out the next, but no matter what, they always had each other’s back...all the time!

“I love you. Meet me at the casino after you clean your vag.”

I pictured this trip in my head as they plotted and planned and eventually executed their journey. The shenanigans that these two get up to will have you crying with laughter, from scenes that are just too hilarious for words, to scenes that resonate with your inner twelve year old self. This book is beautifully balanced with not only fun and laughter but also the deep and meaningfuls and the underlying messages that you cannot help but feel in your heart.

“Yeah, my heart totally wants to take a step toward him instead of away from him, but then my head says “fuck you heart.” My brain says fuck me once, shame on you, fuck me twice, shame on me.”

Kudos to RL Griffin, she has definitely proven that she can write funny. Some scenes have left me mentally scarred for life (#bluewaffle (DO NOT GOOGLE BLUE WAFFLE SERIOUSLY!!)) and some I will remember for a long long time (#hotdog) and some I think back on, even now and they still make me chuckle (#sipandstretch). Some scenes have even changed my eating habits (#nomorehamsandwich). But even as I am typing this I am laughing away to myself and even though I feel some of the humour was a bit too much for my English brain I still haven’t laughed this much over a book for a long time. I also beg anyone who has read this book to own up and say they can never look at a male cover model in the same way again; I always knew they were too good to be true ;-).

This book would make a great summer read, sipping cocktails, by the pool, in the sun, living the life and reading a hilarious modern Thelma & Louise tale without the crappy ending. This book would also serve as the perfect pick me up after all those dark and disturbing books we are so mad about too. So jump in and join this journey of fun, fresh, frolics and fucks aplenty on this voyage of discovery of friendships, finding yourself and finding love when you least expect it. Join these girls on a road trip you will never forget and will forever relate too.

“This moment feels so big, this day feels like such a deal breaker. The butterflies in my stomach have had families and they are all flying around my gut.”

“The expression on his face is filled with wonder and love and lust and I can’t decide which one I like better.”

My Review:

I have a new favorite author – I know I say this often – I am a ho like that, but does it make me a ho if I always mean it? Soon after beginning this book - I logged into Goodreads and quickly added every one of her books to my TBR. I want to read every book, story, and memo this talented woman has ever put to paper. Sunshine and Whiskey is an uproariously funny and snarky little tale that was exactly what I was needing. It took me forever to finish as I frequently had to stop to catch my breath and wipe the tears of mirth from my eyes. I laughed so hard and it woke my husband, so then he demanded to read it too. I smiled, chuckled, chortled, snorted, giggled, and laughed aloud during the majority of this delightfully humorous and wickedly entertaining tale. The clever banter was fresh and so crisp it crackled. I loved these smart and witty characters and how they used insults and threats as endearments. It was hard to narrow down my favorite quotes, as frequent use f-bombs would never get past the censors. So if you aren’t comfortable with liberal use of that type of language, well – you just need to get over yourself so you can enjoy this book. I will never think of fish tacos, ham sandwiches, yoga, red boots, or hot dog buns in the same way – ever.

Sunshine & Whiskey is my favourite book of 2015- even tho' we're not even halfway through the year and I don't think that's going to change!

It has all the elements of what I love in a great story - feisty and strong female characters, humour in bucketfuls, cracking drama, sweet romance, hot dudes ensuring HAWT scenes aplenty and most importantly, a fantastic exploration of a fiercely loyal friendship between two best friends.

Megan is a successful lawyer in her prime, when she walks in on her live-in boyfriend "pile driving into his secretary".
Worst day ever! Right? ....

Laura has just been made redundant from her job in New York City with a years severance pay and is at a loss of what to do next when she decides to pay her bestie Megan a visit down South.

What should have been the worst of times turns into a rip roaring cross country road trip of high jinx, hilarity and self discovery.

Stops along the way make you fall in love with America with the rich descriptions of fantastic stays in Nashville, Denver, Phoenix, Vegas & Napa. There's one scene in New Orleans that literally made me cry laughing. And as if the writing wasn't funny enough, Griffin gives each chapter a different quirky title, 'Vagina Time Out' 'Leggings aren't Pants'.

Mixed in with the comedy of S&W, there are tenders moments between two best friends. There's the closeness of a firm friendship that only two women can have 'the click'. There's the drama and vulnerability of a chance encounter with a past romance and the utter ickiness and awkwardness of the worst one night stand ever.

S&W is Fun with a capital F!

It's totally relatable and utterly refreshing. There's none of that dominant alpha male/ weak female sub lit that's everywhere right now. S&W is about whiskey loving, cussing chicks with balls. It's about strong women who, when they should have been devastated by what life threw at them, sucked it up and turned it around.

Reading GrIffin's last book Razorblade Kisses I had tears streaming down my face. I had tears rolling down my cheeks for a very different reason reading Sunshine & Whiskey. It's simply brilliant.
It'll lift your spirits. It'll make you laugh and tear up at a few scenes and trust me, you'll never look at a hot dog roll the same way ever again!

It's the perfect holiday read - accompanied by a cocktail or a glass of vino and a best friend nearby to relay the lines that will have you splitting your sides laughing.

What happens if your carefully planned out life takes a turn for the worse one day . . .
. . . and a huge turn for the better the next?

If you had a chance for a life do-over, with no care for the costs, what would you do?

In the case of this story, and Megan, the main character, an EPIC road-trip is only the beginning. Call it perfect timing, with her BFF, Laura having her own troubles and joining her for the ride, Time to let their hair down, enjoy lots and lots of alcohol, the occasional one-night stand, and laughs galore. They are the modern day Thelma and Louise, minus the whole tragic death scene.

This book is a big departure for the author, who I became a fan of with her romantic suspense series, By a Thread. While this book has its angst, it is minimal and most of the time, we get to go along for the ride with these fun loving women.

"Bitches, man."

While the road trip serves as the back-story, both women struggle to determine the direction of their lives. Their break from the "real world" gives them the chance to carve their own path and find happiness for the long haul.

If you've read the author's previous books, it won't be a surprise that she doesn't make the love story a simple one. There are multiple potential love interests for Megan, several of which make you think, is he the one (Peter, Ellis aka Meat, Walker aka Magic)? As well as some very unfortunate ones (Chad and Ben).

I personally wavered back and forth with which man (from the good pool), I wanted Megan to have her HEA. My heart was with Peter most of the book, but that would be too easy. Laura also had her share of men along the way as well. From the guy that caused her to need ice for her nether regions, to the man who was so perfect, it scared the hell out of her.

I thought it was great how both called each other out as they struggled to decide what to do with their lives and their men.

What I loved about this story was it felt like I was along for the ride. Megan and Laura are total goofballs, and their banter is exactly how I would picture two BFFs talking. I also loved that the author poked at some reoccurring themes in romance novels. Can you truly forgive someone who has broken your heart? And on the lighter side, is it always sexy to be spanked and told "come for me." Ehhhh, not in Megan's case, lol.

This book takes you on a journey about self-discovery. Enjoying the embarrassing moments, such as a funeral procession during a walk of shame, as well as all the good times in between. In the end, Megan's sister points her in the right direction to make her life meaningful and filled with happiness for the future.

If you are looking for a fun and fairly light read filled with good times and great music, look no further.

*An ARC was received from the author for an honest review.

I almost didn't download the full title after reading the sample. I'm not a fan of the narrator addressing the reader directly. I'm so glad I was able to ignore that minor irritation, this was one of those feel good, warm hug kinda story and one of my fave reads for some time..

I had no idea who she was going to end up with, but for once, it didn't matter too much as this was about Meghan exploring who she really is.

She takes a road trip with her bestie and I loved experiencing that trip with them.

I also loved the humour in this, it felt authentic without getting slapstick daft. There's also hot smut and some little pangs of bittersweet along the way too.

I've been totally living in this story today. Complete story, standalone. Highly recommended if you're looking for a funny, sweet and uplifting read.

If there is any book out there right now, that makes you want to open your windows, and scream "I AM A WOMAN, HEAR ME ROAR" to the entire world, you can bet your ass it is THIS book!
I was excited to be taken on this new journey by R.L Griffin, and the title of this book.....it's down right PERFECT! Grab a bottle of wine (or five), your favourite snacks (but hold back on the hot-dogs), and let R.L Griffin take you on this OUTSTANDING read.
This beautiful novel holds sooooooo many aspects! Friendship, HUMOUR, Sass, Loyalty, new beginnings and BEAUTIFUL trust!
Megan, is an independent, top-dog lawyer, loving life and loving her live-in boyfriend. Until she walks in on him balls deep in his secretary in HER BEDROOM, on HER EXPENSIVE SHEETS! Bad move asshole! And Little Miss Karma is a biaaaatccchhhh right??? Oh you bet she is!!!!!

Megan has a best friend (Laura) who lives in New York, but has been made redundant from her job, and undecided what to do next, Laura pays Megan a visit! FRIENDSHIP AT ITS FINEST READERS! The connection between these two characters is so real, and relatable, they bounce off each other and just make this book what it is! EXCELLENT!
These ladies plan a life changing Road Trip across the USA! Visiting their dream cities and states, experiencing everything together! And I felt every single part of it!
Visits along the way from friends and family, blasts from the pasts and new found adventures and new people!
There are scenes that made me nearly pee my pants laughing, there are scenes that were sweet and so beautiful nearly pushing me to tears, but also scenes that make you want to live life in the very best way possible! Not settling for anything but the best!
This book is just full of surprises, a real feel good read that I will read AGAIN!
R.L Griffin made me FEEL this book. With a huge message of "finding yourself" behind it, strong characters and so so so much fun!
If you buy any book today, please for the love of God, make it Sunshine and Whiskey!!!

I don’t how to begin this review. I have such conflicting feelings about it that I don’t even know how to rate it. There were parts of this book that I thought were amazing. But there were parts that I felt didn’t hit the mark.
Let’s start to with the stuff I didn’t love. The beginning to me was very slow. If it wasn’t for the premise of the book and wanting to see where she took the story and the fantastic reviews I’ve seen, I would have put it down and tried picking it up another time. But then it hit it’s mark and took off and I was very invested into the characters and what was happening with them but it took a while for me to get there.
What I loved was her encounters with the men she crossed paths throughout her journey across the country. Some of them were awesomely hilarious. Some were heartwarming. But they each brought something to Megan’s story. I also loved Megan’s best friend, Laura. I am very intrigued with her story. And Walker. Let me tell you, I kind of love him! He was downright swoon worth. Once he came on the scene, I was attached to my kindle!
All in all, I liked this book. I wanted to love it but ended up only liking it. I will interested to see if R.L. Griffin turns this into a series with more on Megan and Walker or branch out on some of the characters we met along the way.

A wonderful feel good book is what Sunshine & Whiskey is. I really enjoyed this book. A road trip with a difference is sorta how to describe this book. When Megan comes into a large amount of money and her best friend just gets made redundant then what better way to 'coz yourself' is with a cross country road trip, taking in beautiful hotels, music concerts at some iconic venues, alcohol, especially whiskey and a few hot men to spice things up. I love when Megan meets Meat, they have fun together, and the fact that he was at an author signing as a cover model made me giggle!! However, this story isn't all fun and flowers it deals with relationships, real life, real love and lots more besides. It is always fun and a little bit quirky. This book really lifted my spirits, and made me smile throughout it. I recommend this book and despite what the blurb says, I think this book would be fantastic if made into a chick flick. I award this book 5 smiley stars ~ Rosie

“I believe in fire and magic.”

Sunshine and Whiskey is not your ordinary RL Griffin book, which is normally full of suspense, drama, hearts dropping and lots of angst. It is the complete opposite actually, you won’t even believe that she wrote it. S&W is a fun read that will have you laughing your ass off from the moment you pick the book up till the very end. It’s kind of scary. I kept thinking there was going to be a moment a bomb was going to drop and her usual writing was going to take over, but it never did. And I’m glad. You will definitely enjoy the journey Megan and Laura both go on, it will be hard for you to keep up with their antics. RL writes it as if it you are going along with them, which I love. This is so far one of my favorite books this year.

“Sometimes you need family to remind you who you were before life got in the way.”

Megan Walker had her life pretty much had the life she wanted in New York. She was in love the perfect guy, she loved practicing law, and she had her best friend in a city she loves. What more could she ask for? One day it all changed and she found herself starting a new life, in Atlanta, near her family and away from all her friends. She is a successful lawyer determined to make her way to the top and make partner in a firm full of all males. She is damn good at her job and highly respected by everyone. Megan has completely dedicated all her extra time and weekends to work just to achieve her goal. She has a close relationship with her sister, her husband and her nephew, but not so much her parents. However, life throws you another curveball your way what do you do? Go on a road trip with your best friend of course!

“You are the chocolate to my peanut butter.” “The salt to my caramel,” she adds “The silicone lube to my butt plug.”

I fell in love with Megan from the get go. She’s got that “I don’t give a fuck attitude” that we all should have. She pretty much does what she wants, when she wants to do it. She also tells you how it is even when you don’t want to hear it. She’s also strong, determined, and driven. But she has the biggest heart there is. Before she leaves, she makes sure her family is taken care of, even though she doesn’t need to.

“Sometimes you have to do things that scare you. It is our duty as your best friend to push you into that abyss.”

Coincidently, Laura, the BFF gets laid off from her job so they decide to go on a road trip across the US. You will get to know Megan, and this is totally not her style. She is a complete planner. She doesn’t know how to be spontaneous, so this trip will be a first for her. They visit several states they haven’t visited before and they attend concerts while they are there.

“I can’t be distracted by sparkly things like dicks that I know will make me fall apart many times a night.”

Imagine going on a road trip with your best friend. That’s pretty much what you will be experiencing in this book, probably a lot worse though. I love the relationship between Megan and Laura. They’re more sisters than they are friends. They cuss at each other, bicker back and forth, make fun of each other but you know at the end of if its, it’s all said out of love. The stuff they say to each other, man I swear will have you laughing so hard… Some parts I was like..did she really just say that?? haha

“You need to fuck through it.”

You can’t predict anything that will happened on this journey. You think you know, but really you don’t. RL is really good with playing with your mind. Two best friends run away with no time frame in mind, just roaming the world. Some experiences you wish you can unread, some will ruin you forever. This book is about them finding themselves, kind of like soul searching. You will learn to appreciate the friendships you have in your life, also the family you left behind. There will be guys, lots of guys. Oh yah. You can predict who they end up with, but then you will probably be wrong in the end, so feel free to take some guesses. There will be some heartbreak, and some life lessons to go with them. New friends will be made and friendships will be tested. They will have to go through many obstacles throughout this trip. Some they will conquer together some, they will have to learn how to deal with solo. But most of all they will find a place to settle.

“You need to be okay with yourself. Then maybe you’ll find someone you can’t be without.”

I won’t really go much about the details with this book because this is one of those where you need to experience the journey with both Megan and Laura yourself to find out what really happens. It would spoil it for me to give much detail about the book.

“You make me a better person,” “You complete me.”

I absolutely loved this book and each time I’ve read it I still laugh out loud. I still fall in love with the girls and I find new parts that I love each time. This would make a great summer book, while sitting by the pool because you’re probably going to want a drink after reading this book. LOL Fantastic job well done RL!! I can’t wait to see where their next adventure will be. Now get one clicking and start your trip with Megan and Laura!

Holy amazeballs. Those last chapters were like magic. I felt everything. I find it so amusing that I felt so emotional on the last few chapters. My heart soared. My eyes watered. It's true—I was so happy I wanted to cry. Literally—For Megan Walker. I don't know if this reaction of mine would make sense to you or anyone who've read the book as well, but wow. I am stunned. My heart is bursting at the seams. I did not expect this at all when I started this book. I was honestly dragging myself through the first few chapters of the book, but I guess it's because everything was just getting introduced during those times. But I swear, once you hit 40%, you won't want to stop. It just got better and better from there on.

Sunshine & Whiskey isn't a love story. At all. It's a story of a girl who thought she had her life all planned out, until she caught her boyfriend cheating on her, she won two hundred million dollars in the lottery and her best friend got laid off from her job. All this sets off an exploration for Megan Walker that would change her life drastically and help her find the true meaning of her life. She wandered across the country with her best friend, Lauren, in the hopes of finding out what she really wants to do with her life. In this entire journey, she learned from and finally came to terms with the past, she started to accept life, and found her true self. And she did all that by herself. And probably with a few people whom she met on the way who eventually became a vital part of her new life. This is about finding the right path to life, love and career. I can actually find myself being friends with Megan. I want to have someone like her as one of my best friends. She's a sarcastic smartass who came to terms with her life in the past, present and even the future. She's so strong willed and she never let anything stop her from this exploration.

Did I mention that it's not a love story? Well, it's not entirely not a love story. Although it does have it's bedazzling hot moments. Oh and believe me when I say it has it's moments. Remember, right when you hit that 40%, you'll know what I'm talking about. You'll get all that Meat, fire and Magic. Much more especially when Megan & Lauren finally reach their final destination in Napa. When they got to Napa, I was a goner. I couldn't stop reading. It's just so good. And it's not the usual type of book I read either. It's a perfect blend of life and love, and it will actually make you ponder. And inspire you to be true to yourself and be who you really are.

I loved the way it was written too—like the main character, Megan, was actually conversing with the reader. It was like she really was telling you the wonderful story of her life and how winning the lottery changed all that. I'm in a daze. Those last chapters very much did a number on me. I wasn't a wreck right after per se, but I was dazed. I was left staring at the ceiling when I read that last word on the epilogue. It even came to a point where I started to panic that I was already reading the epilogue; I didn't want it to finish yet. Like it wasn't enough even though the book still has that closure we need by the end—and a really beautiful one at that. Oh, and by the way, I'm purposefully leaving out all the other characters of this book because I don't want to give anything away that would just ruin it to those who haven't really read it yet. If you want to get to know them more, or even just Megan—no—or even just an eyeopening & inspiring book, you definitely have got to read this. ~Renery, 5 stars

So, I've got to say two things first and foremost.... Are you ready?

#1) Thank you to the fabulous author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. As always, I am happy to provide that and am so looking forward to your next story!

#2) this book review is being written while I'm listening to Pandora's 90s R&B station... It really is as wonderful as Mrs. Griffin makes it sound! Currently playing is some Boyz II Men! Not gonna lie- each time an artist was mentioned in this book, whether I knew the artist or not, I put a pause on the reading and went to youtube. ;)
.... Oh, no. Now Pony by Ginuwine is playing. How apt. Mmmmm, Magic!

So, let me go ahead and put this out there. I've read just about everything this author has published. It may be safe to say, I'm a big fan. I also have a serious girl crush because she lives in Atlanta, which is not even an hour from me, and I think about how freaking awesome it would be to sit down and drink a few glasses of wine (or whiskey) with her. I mean, I know after reading this book especially, I'd be around a likeminded friend!

Ok, enough of that for now-- let's focus!

If you've read Razorblade Kisses and loved it, that's fantastic...but it's nothing like this book. Please don't take that wrong or think that I disliked RBK OR Sunshine & Whiskey. I loved both. I loved that they were so vastly different, but you can totally tell the same author has written both. R.L. has this way of writing that feels like your best friend is telling you this epic story. It's always so relatable, so personable, so real. Not filled with filler words and synonyms stolen from a thesaurus to make it sound super fancy. I love that. This book is... light. Sure, it has aspects of hardship, sadness, and hurt but we don't live there when we read this book. This book has a way of touching on many different emotions, but without making you feel like you need to sob uncontrollably or hurl. I love, love, LOVE a good angsty book! However, every once in a while, I need a break. I need a book that will make me feel it, buy into the story, but fill me with more light than dark. This book definitely does that.

Following Megan and Laura's journey is so fun. I'm stupid jealous of fictional characters, but I guess that's not really that new of a feeling, haha. In this instance, I'm jealous of the adventure. I'm jealous of the traveling cross-country. I'm jealous of the traveling and having serious quality best friend time like that. I love that Megan really finds who she is now. Not the girl she was in high school, not law school or in a relationship. She finds herself on her own, then she finds someone who truly loves the person she is. Ah, Magic. And Meat. Both sound...delicious. Can't wait until there's more to read for all of the characters in this story.

This is a blissfully short review because I don't want there to be spoilers. However, I will say...Laura needs to get herself together and REALIZE! Sounds like she's got something really great and I hope she doesn't let it get away...

Also...currently listening to Let's Get Married by Jagged Edge ;)

It is no secret that I love R.L. Griffin, there is nothing this woman can write that I won’t read! I absolutely loved Sunshine & Whiskey – it was so fun and I laughed so hard! This book was so much fun to read that I can guarantee you won’t want to put it down!

Megan Walker’s life takes an unexpected turn when she makes a quick stop at home during lunch to find her boyfriend in her bed with his secretary. She handles this situation in one of the best ways I’ve ever read! I seriously adore this woman, she’s brilliant. So, after handling said situation, with epic bad-assery, she ends up buying a lottery ticket and booze. That same day Megan receives a call from her best friend, Laura telling her she’s lost her job.

Megan sees this as a great opportunity for a visit and while Laura is there they discover that Megan has indeed won the lottery, a couple hundred million dollars!!

And so begins an absolutely EPIC road trip for Megan and Laura! They decide to get in the car and go, they are going to drive across country with the goal of ending up in Napa, CA.

There are so many laughs in S & W, but there is also a great story here. On this fantastic road trip, there is also a trip of self-discovery, for both Megan and Laura. R.L. Griffin does an amazing job of blending the absolutely funny with real life challenges. She does a brilliant job blending the fun and the reality of the lives of these women.

I don’t want to give away the fun that I experienced while reading Sunshine & Whiskey, there are some things you just have to experience yourself, but as with all of R.L. Griffin’s books, I didn’t just read it I experienced it! She made me laugh and feel and experience (and she didn’t make me CRY) and I loved every minute.

I can tell you that between cheese puffs, getting lost in Vegas (which I might add, I’m an expert at, thank you R.L.), hooker boots and wine yoga, there is an amazing story of not just love but beautiful self-discovery. There is just Magic! ;)

I am so happy R.L. Griffin took a chance on writing a book to make readers laugh. Sunshine & Whiskey is a wonderful journey that had me re-thinking how I feel about hot dog buns and making me want to call my best friend to tell her how much I love her! I completely love this book and the author and cannot wait for more!!

I received an advanced copy to review for The Geekery Book Review.

Sunshine & Whiskey was such a departure from what I usually read. It was also the first book that I've ever read from R.L. Griffin, and I really enjoyed it. In one day, Megan's life went from complete crap to something completely different. After finding her boyfriend screwing his secretary on her bed along with her vibrator (yuck, I know), her luck completely changed. Throwing caution to the wind, her and her best friend, Laura, embark on one epic road trip from Atlanta to Napa. Along the way, they have crazy one-night stands, amazing concerts, revisit past loves, and have the time of their lives.

I was completely shocked by how much I liked this book. To be honest, I think I fell in love with the way the story was told. I loved Megan's voice and her no holds barred sort of way about her. Megan was kicking ass and taking names as a fantastic lawyer in Atlanta, but, her life was missing that "something". She counted her life in six-minute intervals (all billable) and had some baggage that needed to be sorted out. Through her road trip you saw her grow up and realize that she wanted more for her life than that. She wanted to be happy, to find that person that will treat her right, as well as do something to help others. One thing I will say, Megan is selfless and is very giving toward her friends and family. Though she has this rough exterior, she really is just a softie at heart. Eventually she finds her purpose and her heart along the way. Where? I'm not going to spoil that for you.

This book was a lot of fun. I almost felt like I was living vicariously through Megan and Laura and the crazy adventures these two got themselves in. I loved some of their most ridiculously outlandish stories and look at my best friend and hope one day I can have such an amazing time like these two did. Their friendship felt so organic and effortless...I loved their dialogue and the fact that they would do anything for each other. There was a lot of girl power between them, and it was utterly fabulous.

All in all, this was a funny, at times sexy, and smile-inducing read for me. I honestly would say it's a top recommendation. However, I have to say. I found there to be a few too many errors for me. I am very picky about those sorts of things (Type-A right here) and at times it was a bit distracting. Even though I had to get past those errors (again my own issue), the story was great and made me want to call my bestie even though I see her almost every other day.

He-Larry-Us trip to finding oneself 4.5 stars

My first encounter with R. L. Griffin and I loved it. I knew it was funny but I didn't know it would be so insightful about life. There were aspects which totally made you stop and think about your life and how you're going about it.

Megan Walker has it all until the day she kinda loses it all. I won't tell you if the beginning of it all falling apart is good or bad, for that you'd need to read the story but I will tell you this, this book was a journey to finding oneself. Megan didn't realize how adrift she really has been until now and she needs to know if what she has been doing is what she wants to do for the rest of her life.

Her best friend Lo goes on this journey with her. Her other best friend Justin is another person that everyone should have in their life. I mean seriously these rock. Then there was the boyfriend, yes the one who starts the BALLS rolling, yes I said balls, you will know the reference to it only if you READ this book. Did I mention this one was HE-LARRY-US?? Yes it was, I like Megan and Lo will never look a certain sandwich the same, I will never look at certain drinks the same and I don't drink but have cravings for certain drinks.

Sunshine & Whiskey is special for me cos this is what my bestie gal pal calls me, WHISKEY!!! I am the buffer to her pain I think or maybe I'm the poison, LOL. I digress, Megan starts off and in her journey she encounters her past which she really wants to leave behind and her present which she wants to take forward. But will her past allow her present to have a future. Ummm, reading this book will tell you all the answers.

Sunshine & Whiskey left me with a tummy-ache cos I laughed so much, with a sappy smile on my face cos with friends like these you can't ever be NOT happy or do much wrong. And with a satisfied feeling that yes life may give you lemons but you can make lemon drops!!!! Will Megan find her past or her present to lead to future, go 1-click this beauty.

Megan Walker left New York City when the love of her life, Peter, walked away for a job in Denver and left her in pieces. Three years later, Megan's life is back together. She is on her way to making partner in an Atlanta law firm, has a live-in boyfriend of a year, and at 28 owns her own home. A chance food encounter, makes her stop by her house to change shirts before heading to a deposition when she finds her live-in boyfriend, Chad, having his own encounter with his secretary in their bed. After nailing her deposition, Megan stops at a liquor store in Alpharetta and purchased a gallon of vodka and five lottery tickets. Later, Megan receives a call from her friend, Laura, who just fired from her investment job in NYC and is coming to Atlanta for a visit. While Laura is in town, Laura finds Megan's lottery tickets and realizes one of them is a big winner...$226 million winner. Megan's life has just changed in a big way. Megan decides to quit her job at the law firm, buys a new car, and the girls hit the road for a "Thelma and Louise" type road trip. The girls travel to Nashville, New Orleans, Austin, Denver, Phoenix, Las Vegas, and end up in Napa Valley. Along the way the girls meet hook up with different guys, encounter heartbreaks, and stalkerish behaviour, especially once people realize Megan is the big lottery winner. When the make it to Napa Valley a chance encounter with Max and Walker (Magic) leave the girls realizing home is where the heart is.

The story is well written and in a different style than most books. The story is written in a way you can actually "hear" the conversations between Megan, Laura, Max, Magic, and the other characters they encounter. Parts of the book are heartbreaking and others are laugh out loud. At one point, I had soda shooting out my nose! The story is well written and flows well. I can't wait for book #2.

Megan Walker, a lawyer with her dreams within her grasps, gets dealt a crummy hand in the relationship department. When she finds her boyfriend in a compromising position on the day that could make or break her career, causes her to do the unthinkable. After banging out her deposition she goes to a liquor store and gets some vodka and an unlikely item. Just when she thinks her world is crazy, it gets turn on its axis.

With her best friend Laura, these girls go on a road trip. Closure is needed for Megan and she seeks it. Along the way are hot guys, concerts and soul searching.

I don’t know where to start, so I’m just going to jump in. Even though I read the blurb beforehand, I felt like I was going in blind. I had no idea what was going to happen in this book. The banter and friendship between Laura and Megan was fun. There was a lot of dialogue between the two, some funny and some not so much. The character is 27, I too am 27, and I didn’t find her relatable to me. I don’t talk the way that Megan did. And I found it odd. That’s the only thing I couldn’t connect with in the book. I liked that each man she meets on her journey, provides her with some clue as to what she wants in a man. If your looking for a summer road trip book with fun times and hot boys this would be the book for you. 3.5 smooches for Sunshine and Whiskey.

Just when you think life is planned, it all goes to hell.

Sunshine & Whiskey is the perfect combination of laughs, heart ache and good times with your best friend. How many of us dream of dropping out of life and taking the ultimate road trip with our BFF??

The last time I read R.L. Griffin, I had tears streaming down my face. This time, I had tears of laughter streaming down! The main character, Megan, is a snarky, witty, whiskey loving girl who refuses to take crap from anyone. To read a book with a head strong female is a nice change. Plus, most of us can still relate to that time in our life when were "finding ourselves". This book has become one of my top favorites for 2015.

If you are a fan of RL, this is a little different than her other books, but just as good. I highly recommend this to book to every female out there. Although I can't drop out of my life, I can escape into the reality of Sunshine & Whiskey, and wish I was in that convertible traveling west.

Okay if you read a 1,000 books this year this one has to be one of them. Sunshine & Whiskey will be in my top 5 books of 2015 why you ask? Because this shit is funny as hell. There are very few books to make me laugh and cry. But I will tell you and if you don't believe me ask my kids I laughed til I peed my pants and had drinks fly out my nose and I cried like a baby. What would you do if you had the money and the ultimate best friend? ROAD TRIP!!!!! Megan and her best friend Laura go on a cross country trip from their home town to California and they stop at various locations on their journey. There's hot guys, concerts, music, and a shit ton of laughs. There is also heartache along the journey. But what got me is that no matter what her best friend was there to make things okay. Please read this book you will not be disappointed. I loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where do I start with this book.... Let's see.... This book starts with Megan a pretty cool and calm girl. She goes home to a big ass surprise that turns her life around. Not because she's broken but because she finds herself. Sometimes chaos brings good in our life. This story is about two friends Megan and Laura, these two gals go out to the world and take it by the horns. The girls also meet new guys while also encounter old flames. I like the bond between the girls and the guys that make appearance are pretty cool too, with the exception of Chad the douche. I can't wait to read the next book and see where the girls go and what else life brings them.
Please note that this book does not end with a cliffhanger but there will be another book in the series.

I have been a fan of RL Griffin for quite a while now, and she has once again delivered another great story! Sunshine & Whiskey is a departure from her past books, but her writing is still amazing. I love Griffin’s authenticity, witty dialogue, pop culture references, and the vivid pictures she paints with her words.

This is the story of Megan and her hilarious misadventures as she travels across the country with her best friend. It’s a journey of friendship and self-discovery, with a little romance and tons of laugh-out-loud moments along the way. If you are smart enough to buy this book, sit back and enjoy as Megan learns to let go of the past, trust herself, and not let assholes (or atrocious one night stands) get her down.

One thing you can be sure of when picking up a book from R.L. Griffin, is that you will not be disappointed. Known rather for her suspense filled books, Sunshine and Whiskey is a romantic comedy that will have you laughing out loud and wanting to call your best friend to plan a girls only road trip.

R.L's new book follows the fun filled road trip of two best friends as they embark on a journey of self discovery, one night stands, plenty of laughter, a few cringe worthy moments and finding love.
As in true Griffin style, there will always be a few twists and turns as well as broken hearts, all adding to the crazy, funny, feel good adventure that sunshine and whiskey takes you on.

Great read

My friend Natasha Boyd recommended this book and so I had to read it. I am so glad I did. I laughed out loud so many times my 3 yr old kept asking me, "what's wrong with you mommy?!" Lol! I definitely couldn't explain what was so funny. The book is a real book, not a novella disguised as a novel but a book that takes its time to tell you about the journey and adventure. I enjoyed this book thoroughly. I won't tell you the story line and ruin any of the surprises, reading it and discovering the twists and turns is so much better. Read this, and enjoy!

This was a fun book to read. I just got done reading a very heavy dark series so I was looking for something lighter and this book fit the ticket. I enjoyed how it was written. The main character really is basically talking to you the reader. The last time I read something written this way was in Emma Chase's Tangled. It's a fun writing style.

If you love fun banter between two best friends, a road trip and a bit of romance then this is the book for you.
