Michael Sweater combines '90s animation nostalgia, sitcom antics, and a seasoning of stoner comedy in this hilarious comic collection, including all six issues of the Everything Sucks series along with a gluttony of bonus material.
Noah and Calla are high, hungry, and broke, but that doesn't stop them from finding the energy to mess things up even more. Between finding mysterious bags of blood-covered money, getting locked out of the house by maliciously smart cats, and nearly drowning in a bar bathroom, there's barely any time left in the day. They'll figure it all out in the end... probably.
This jam-packed collection features the entirety of Everything Sucks, including a never-before-seen sixth issue, and bonus sketches, art, and pages from the mind of Michael Sweater.
I don't know why, but I kept thinking about the first time I discovered Peter Bagge's HATE while reading this. It's like a HATE for a post Adventure Time /Cartoon Network world. It's random, slice of life thing may not be for everyone... but I enjoyed the heck out of it.
Read them all in single issues but nice to have them all in 1 place and enjoyed the re-read plus the bonus chapter. Lots of fun, 10/10 would recommend.
A fun collection, but I don't think this series is for me. I do love Michael Sweater's Please Keep Warm comics though, so it's nice to see a couple of character cameos in this
I'm not usually a fan of dead-beat stoner "what am I doing with my life" stories, but I like friends bickering. I would forget that the characters are apparently in their 30s, because they're kind of stuck in that immature college frat stage of practically jobless, broke, and just looking to laze or party. It's mostly Noah and his friends arguing about stuff that turns into a hot mess or the occasional introspective of him what he should be doing with his life. I enjoyed the former more. I also thought it was cool that he and Callah, his perpetual couch tenant, are friends and not love interests.
