This is also the prequel to the Cosa Nostra series which I have already read but I somehow forgot this book existed, I liked seeing Luca prior to what happens to him that leads his life being altered forever.
Nazalie needs help taking care of her father who is in the last few months of his life, sadly she cannot afford his care and is desperate enough to go ask her former high school classmate and someone she knows will use her offer for his own means.
Carter is a highly successful businessman and once he sees Nazalie incredible desperate for help he comes up with a plan to have her be at his beck and call for a year, to do anything he wants. This is all stuff he thinks is humiliating or beneath him. There is initially nothing sexual about his proposition.
We don't particularly have scenes of him with OW but we are told by him and Nazalie that he is going around as usual and fucking OW, but this is before he and Nazalie even get together or he even realizes he has grown to care for her.
Little by little he starts to fall for her and the OW stop, but we do have his secretary in the background (who he slept with once and he knew he shouldn't have) start some massive drama.
In the contract Nazalie signed it stated she was not allowed to be with anyone for a year as she needed to be available for Carter 24/7. So, once he sees Nazalie (through photos sent to him) out and about with her ex-bf from high school he gets to the point of no return and hurts her. He treats her like shit, and she knows she needs to leave. The secretary had set up the photos to make it look like it was two old lovers together again, but we know that Nazalie's ex is just a friend (who has a wife) and they are all on good terms.
Carter finds out that is all a manipulation tactic by his secretary who is pissed he isn't sleeping with her anymore and so he fires her.
This is a novella so everything is fast paced and pushed through earlier than you would expect from a full-length novel. There is no room for a massive amount of grovel or for Nazalie to move away like she had planned and leave his sorry ass behind to wallow in sadness.
Carter grows up quickly after he hurt her, and he ends up apologizing and allowing himself to be vulnerable and open his feelings towards her. He confesses his love and even lets her know he has been visiting her father for a while. He asked his permission to marry her and was given her late mother’s ring.
The book ends with them getting married and pregnant!
This was the 1st book I've read by this lovely author, and it was a sweet story of two people who once knew each years ago, being brought together by sad circumstances. It was a quick read That was enjoyable, well written, a little fast paced, as it moved quickly from indenture servant to getting married within a couple of weeks but it was nice and I enjoyed the characters even if Carter was a Pretentious, Self satisfying jerk with a wicked tongue and Nazalie a soft hearted, sweet girl who will do anything for her father.
Carter is a typical rich a-hole. Nazalie approaches Carter for help and what does Carter do... He proposes a contract for her services in exchange for his help. He treats her pretty badly at the beginning, but you know that saying!!
This was a great introduction to this series! It’s dark and short but steamy hot ! I love how the characters are completely opposite of each other there’s nothing I love more than a opposites attract love story and this was that and more . Carter and Nazalies story is dark but sweet and I can’t wait for Lucas next !
Carter King is dark, delicious and I want him. R.G. Angel's delivered a fantastic look into the Mafia world.
Nazalie needs help and she decides against her better judgement to ask Cart for it. Her father is dying and she wants to put him in a different place to help. Carter agrees to help her but with a catch. She signs a contract and he buys her for a time. She will be his personal assistant and be at his beck and call 24 hours a day 7 days a week. She doesn't want to agree to this but she does for her father.
Carter is a jerk. He treats her horrible until he realizes something. He actually likes her, like really likes her. But by the time he figures it out that he likes her will it be too late? Will his jerk of a personality cause her to be done? Will love win out and he get the girl he didn't know he wanted or needed?
The Dark King is a quick, addicting read. Carter and Nazalie are perfect. Their chemistry is there from start to finish. I love that the "underdog girl" get the boy. Nazalie is not your typical heroine but she's amazing and perfect in her own way. Angel delivers an amazing, dark read that left me needing more of them.
Not a bad story overall, but there were things missing that niggled at my brain as I read. (Why did Carter call Nazalie "Lily"? What was the deal with Carter's assistant?) The story felt rushed; it could have been so much better if the author had fleshed out some of the details.
Amor instantáneo y no del todo desarrollado. Toda la historia fue apresurada y el final fue demasiado apresurado. Los personajes están subdesarrollados, lo que hacía que su relación física pareciera barata y lasciva.
This was the first book that I read of this writer so I didn't know what to expect from the story. After reading the blurb, I expected a bit of a dark, bully-like story but to my surprise that wasn't the case. So while this was a nice novella length story, it left me with mixed feelings. The story was told from both POV's. Throughout the story there were many hints that the main male character Carter and his mafia friend Gian were very dark and dangerous but I didn't really feel it. Yes, both were cold, arrogant and dominant but they never did anything hurtful to Nazalia. The main female character Nazalia was 28 years old and all sunshine, innocent and positivity. She was curvy and believed in the good in everyone. Nothing is really said about the bullying in the past at school in the story. And even though Carter forced her to be his assistant at his house, he treated her well. The end was very sweet and romantic. I liked it but it wasn't what I expected from a ‘dark and dangerous’ guy.
‘The dark king’ is a nice story, I just expected a more dark story from the title and blurb.
This short novella has me wishing it was longer. These total opposites, the goody two shoes and the bad boy were fire. Nazalie was sweet and caring and always did for others before she did for herself. So when her father needed help she went to the one person she knew who could help and putting aside her fear and pride. I loved reading how Carter grew with each chapter. He always had a soft spot for Nazalie and when he has the chance to have her close he jumps at the opportunity. But his quick temper causes some hiccups that he has to dig himself out of. I loved every minute of their story and I just wish it was longer. Now I'm anxiously waiting for more Lucas.
Dark and addicting, The Dark King is a great introduction to what I'm sure will be a fantastic series by RG Angel.
This is a novella so it is on the short side, but it doesn't lack in darkness and emotion. It's an opposites attract that had me engrossed from the start. Nazalie is looking for help and the one person she can go to, Carter, is the biggest jerk around. It's the perfect good girl meets bad boy scenario and man is Carter bad. It took a while for him to grow on me. You know what they say about opposites attract though...the steam level is off the charts and they had amazing chemistry.
Wow, I haven't read this author before and what an addictive story. It's a great introduction to the series.
Who says opposites don't attract. One's a bad boy and the other a goody two shoes, it's such an amazing read. You'll definitely have mixed emotions towards Carter, I wanted to kill him one minute but then rescue him the next, like marmite. Nazalie is the complete opposite, sweet and caring willing to help anyone who needed it.
The heat in this book was intense, will certainly look for more of RG's books. Highly recommend this book can't wait to read the next one.
A good standalone novella introducing this new series. I really like the standalone factor. However, this book really sets Luca up for his own, and I’d definitely recommend reading it first. Of course, once you read it, you’ll have to continue the series. Strong and powerful characters. A sweet and dark love story. Family woven in throughout.
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Short, sweet, well written with a great plot. Loved this quick read with Nazalie, enslaved by Sin, her ‘King’. Enemies to lovers in Beauty and The Beast fashion, with a little billionaire and mob action.
Who said that only thin girls get the guy? Romance hits different when you know that it’s okay to believe that everyone deserves love. Is this story sappy? Of course! It’s a romance novel 😂 While I consider myself a plus size woman I found myself connecting more with the broken male character. Probably because I’ve yet to meet anyone that brings that sappy side out. 🤔 🤷🏻♀️😂 Any, who__ this is a good and quick read.
I don't like when I want to read dark romance and get something "sweet". I mean all the exciting things happen outside of the book and we don't get to read it. I feelt very left out. I don't really know when the characters fell in love, because that also happen outside of the pages. It's not a bad book, but it needed so much more of everything, darkness, people falling and love and the characters interacting with eachother!
Carter is a rich, dark boss and Nazalie is a poor, truly good and noble woman. This is a wonderful and dark Novella that would be even better if it was a longer length novel. Bravo
I really enjoy this author! She has this knack for creating unique stories with these surprising twists! I haven’t read the original story, but I very much enjoyed this extended version! I still wish it was longer cause I wanted all those missed details feeling like the beginning/middle of the story was rushed, but as a whole this was a great read.
I’ve red The Dark King before in the Last Years Love anthology and loved it, but this extended version is even better! The extra chapters were so emotional they made me cry. Something you wouldn’t expect when you first start reading this story. You would think: ‘does she enjoy coming up with evil mean men as characters?!’ (Yes that’s a warning, keep in mind that this is a DARK romance novella) 🤣 , but keep going, you will be surprised.
Also, I want a man that says “I’m in love with you, with every curve, every dent, every blemish, every scar. You are my temptation, my fall. Don’t hide from me, ever.” *swoons away...* Like how do you come up with all that emotional, romantic stuff?!
Once again, a 5 star read and I’m so curious for Luca’s story! Such a mystery... 🤩
P.S. if you read this review, there is a beautiful life lesson to remember: “Be kind, be caring, always. People might see this as a weakness, but it isn’t. It makes you strong and brave.” 💞
I wasn't sure about this book at first, but as I started I couldn't put it down. I felt every emotion, every confusion. I wanted them together. I loved it. It's definitely worth the read
I really liked this short novella. Nazalie needed help with her dad and she went to ask if Carter King would help her. He promised to help her with one condition but as always everything change when you fall in love. But now I can't wait to read Luca's story.
An ARC was provided in exhange for an honest review.
I love the fact that he messed up and she didn’t half-a$$ her leave she did all the things, moved dad, new job, returned blood money. Mad respect to her. And he didn’t pretend he didn’t eff up but owned it
I liked this book but things just happened way too fast. Nazalie was ana angel, seriously, and Carter deserved to grovel a little more but it was good nonethless
