Three sisters with secrets. An adorable meddling aunt. A Christmas reunion like no other!
Samantha Quinn isn't thrilled to be battling a snowstorm on her way to Sunnycrest, the family home in Charlevoix. Once again Aunt Cate has summoned Sam to help rescue her baby sister. But Sam carries her own painful secret and she’s not ready to share. She mistakenly believes only two of them will be there.
Izzy has always been the wild card of the family. But this time she’s really done it. Is she finally proving herself, or will she disappoint her family again? Operating her Coffee and Cupcakes shop with Skipper, her ex, as pastry chef is just the beginning—she has another surprise waiting.
As the middle sister, Marlowe's always done her own thing. This time she may have gone too far. Coming home for the holidays, she might need the fresh air of Charlevoix and the love of family to set her straight.
Since her sister’s untimely death, Cate Conway has gladly stepped in as surrogate mother to her three nieces. Arriving at Sunnycrest full of spunk and holiday cheer, she’s determined to bring the family together—though her plans could backfire.
An uplifting Christmas saga of enduring love, strong women, and the power of healing the past to create a holiday miracle!
Barbara Lohr writes contemporary romance and women’s fiction, often with a humorous touch. Her series include Windy City Romance, Man from Yesterday, Best Friends to Forever and Romancing the Royals. In addition to romance, her work often explores family relationships. She believes that no man or woman falls in love without family influence, for better or for worse. Dark chocolate is her favorite food group and she makes a mean popover. When she's not writing, she loves to bike, kayak or golf. Barbara lives in the South with her husband and a cat that claims he was Heathcliff in a former life. Visit her on Facebook at www.facebook.com/barbaralohrauthor.
Christmas in Charlevoix is basically what happens when the universe says, “Hey, let’s take three emotionally constipated sisters, one meddling aunt with the subtlety of a glitter bomb, and a house full of unresolved trauma… and shake it like a snow globe.”
Samantha? She’s driving through a blizzard with the energy of a woman who has one nerve left and Charlevoix is tap‑dancing on it. She thinks she’s showing up to rescue ONE sister. Plot twist: she walks into a full‑blown Quinn Sister Summit™ and immediately regrets every life choice that led her here.
Izzy? Oh, sweet chaotic Izzy. She’s running a cupcake shop with her ex like that’s not a recipe for emotional arson. And she’s got a surprise brewing that absolutely screams “I made a questionable decision but I’m hoping it works out.”
Marlowe? Middle‑child energy so strong I felt it in my spine. She’s out here making choices that would make a therapist retire early, and honestly? I respect the commitment.
And Aunt Cate? Aunt Cate is the holiday general. She arrives with casseroles, opinions, and enough Christmas spirit to power the entire Midwest. She’s determined to fix these girls whether they like it or not, and she will absolutely weaponize mistletoe if necessary.
The whole book feels like being wrapped in a warm blanket while someone gently smacks you with a candy cane and says, “Deal with your feelings, sweetheart.” It’s messy. It’s heartfelt. It’s healing. It’s the kind of Christmas story that makes you want to call your siblings and apologize for everything you’ve ever done, even if it was their fault.
By the end, I was smiling like an idiot, emotionally soothed, and ready to move into Sunnycrest myself.
A cozy, chaotic, heart‑healing Christmas miracle of a book.
It’s a nostalgic read for me, I grew up in Michigan and loved the winters when I was young. So much drama and secrets and hiding things that didn’t make sense to me.
Christmas in Charlevoix is a warm story of three adult sisters and the aunt that helped finishing raising them after their parents died. The sisters have drifted apart and are keeping big secrets from each other, as is Aunt Cate. The memories of their childhood vacation home and their Christmas traditions help bring them together and see each other as they really are. Add in an adorable one-year-old and a second-chance romance or two, and author Barbara Lohr delivers a touching story for her readers to escape into. I would definitely read more from this author and highly recommend this first book of the Charlevoix Dreams series. I look forward to the rest of the series. I received a complimentary copy and am sharing my opinion of this well-written book.
This was the first book in a new series called Charlevoix Dreams. I liked that the book centered around the Quinn sisters and their Aunt Cate. Samantha, Marlowe, and Izzy had grown apart during the last few years and kept their lives and secrets to themselves. I am so glad Aunt Cate meddled and got Sam and Marlowe to agree to come to Sunnycrest, the family home that belonged to them and Aunt Cate. Izzy was already living there. I enjoyed the story, the homecoming, and the many revelations as the women reminisced about their past and how long ago their parents had been gone. I liked that it was set during Christmas which brought hope and joy to everyone. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Christmas in Charlevoix by Barbara Lohr is a wonderfully nostalgic Christmas story that focuses on family traditions and family trust. Sisters Samantha, Marlowe and Isabel haven’t spent enough time together in several years so their Aunt Cate is determined to bring them together for Christmas at Sunnycrest where Isobel still lives. Secrets will be revealed as the four revisit old memories and make new ones. This story is sure to help every reader remember their own family traditions as they get into the spirit of Christmas. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book. Most highly recommend.
This was a clean women’s fiction with touches of romance about three sisters who are tricked by their aunt Cate to spend the holidays together. They are all dealing with challenges in their lives that they hid from each other. Sam, the oldest hid that she is divorced after her husband cheated on her. The youngest Izzie has dealt with her share of career and relationships struggles and recently adopted a baby girl. Both have the potential for second chance romances with previous love interests. The middle girl Marlowe doesn’t really reveal what she is dealing with but hopefully we’ll read more in a future book.
What a wonderful story of “found again” family – and love and acceptance. And maybe warm Christmas magic to help them along! The story is about sisters who have drifted apart, mostly living their own lives. Their aunt is determined to change that. Boy howdy, does she do that! This first story is about Samantha and let’s not forget her cat, Hombre. It’s a great introduction to her sisters and aunt, along with a warm Christmas story. And maybe a start to something for Samantha! Can’t wait to read what comes next.
The Spirit of Christmas abounds in this heartwarming novel as three sisters and their aunt come together after some time apart. The glue in the family has always been Aunt Cate, but when the sisters get together they discover that they are all carrying secrets. Despite their trepidation and inner turmoil, they find a new sense of family and camaraderie. The book is standalone, although it opens the way for each sister and their aunt to tell their own story. I received a copy of the well-written book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Four delightful and related ladies discover their need for one another. As many of us do when we become adults we scatter across the nation. We get involved in our individual lives and neglect those we were close to while growing up, especially our siblings. It was so nice to get to know the personalities of these women. So happy to see that it is the first of a series. I am eager to see what all of them do next. As I don't celebrate Christmas, I think I will enjoy their further adventures even more. Thanks to the author for providing a copy. My review is voluntary.
‘Christmas in Charlevoix’ was sweet. The feel-good plot involved a family gathering for Christmas, unhappy situations left behind, a big surprise, a few more surprises, a skiing mishap, a trip to a blast from the past, a merry open house, sort of picking up where a couple left off, and making plans for coming back home. Moreover, I appreciated the author’s vivid descriptions, including imagery, figurative language, and perfect word choices that created a nostalgic tone. Overall, I liked the touching narrative.
Christmas in Charlevoix is a clean, heartwarming novel about family, drifting apart, and coming together again. Revel in the Christmas spirit as Aunt Cate get the three sisters together again for a family Christmas. Everyone is hiding secrets, bu hey need each other. I could not put the book down and definitely want to visit Charlevoix! If you have read any other of Ms. Lohr’s books, you know that she creates great families.
'Christmas in Charlevoix' is a well written story of three generations of a family, all women. The twist is the three sisters' parents are gone, but their mother's sister is a part of their lives, plus the baby girl in the family has been adopted by the youngest sister. It is a thoughtful tale of loss and, especially, of renewed connection to family. I must read the next book to see how this progresses.
This was a story of familial relationships between three very different sisters and their aunt who raised them. Getting together at Christmas was a last-minute idea of their aunt's. The girls have some surprises and heartaches that make them realize how much they need each other. Heartwarming.
This story is a fabulous reminder to make time for each other because we can never get back those missed opportunities. Although the three sisters had each suffered through many trials and tribulations, Barbara's book really captures the essence of a wonderful family Christmas. It definitely left me with an upbeat holiday feeling!
A sweet and heartwarming story to read over the Christmas season. You'll love the three sisters as they reconnect with their aunt at their family home in the charming town of Charlevoix.
I had not read any other books from this author. It was a wonderful read. Kept me wanting to continue till I finished the story. Such a sweet aunt and how she brought the 3 sisters back together again.
A great start to a new series. The writing style is very enjoyable/excellent. I could not put this book down. I feel like I was in the midst of new friends. I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I'm from Michigan and have some close friends who live in charlevoix. It was fun to read about places I am familiar with. Great storyline and fun characters. Aunt Cate would be a great Aunt to hang around with.
I liked this book. It's a very nice read. Aunt Cate was able to bring the three girls and herself back to the family summer home in Charlevoix. Surprises awaited for each of them.
Three sisters, an aunt and a baby all come together for Christmas in the old family home. Each have certain secrets that come out during Christmas break. A wonderful story of family caring and love.
What a wonderful story. It almost feels like you are part of the family as you read it. It's pretty neat to read a story set in a place you have ties too.
