Book 2 of the Betrothed Series

Harry Potter’s magic, Twilight’s heartache... with a message that love and confidence make everything possible – a faery fantasy with a reality check.

“The twist and turns will have you turning pages and say 'just one more chapter'. But once you start Allegiance you will be hooked until the end. Not to mention that will leave you counting down the days until the next book on the beautiful series flies onto our shelf.”

“While people could mistake this book in being a purely romance novel, the thing I like about it is it highlights the importance of all kinds of love and bonds – with family, friends and romantic partners. I loved the fact all the characters are flawed and because of this, so too are their relationships. THE BEAUTIFUL BETROTHED SERIES RETURNS – AS DARKNESS APPROACHES

Allegiance
is the second novel in Wanda Wiltshire’s spellbinding six-part Betrothed series, inviting readers on an astonishing journey of dreamy landscapes and beguiling characters, with a racy love triangle.

Wanda Wiltshire traps key character Marla between two worlds – Earth and the enchanting land of Faera.

Hidden on Earth for her own protection, Marla discovers she is a faery and is betrothed to the drop-dead gorgeous Leif – prince of the Faery Kingdom of Telophy - a world where nothing is as perfect as it seems. But a shocking deal she strikes with the King of Telophy forces her to abandon her new Faery home.

Allegiance begins with Marla returning to Australia, consumed with sadness and conflict, eroding the little self-confidence she has left. Her family, terrified for her health are taken aback when all of a sudden Marla seems to forget her passion for the faery Prince Leif... and develops a love for her human best friend, Jack, that seems to magically jolt her out of her pit of despair.

But Leif journeys to Earth to win Marla back, and everything changes.
Marla discovers she is not alone – with other fae also hidden on Earth – and when Leif learns a dark, sinister force threatens Faera – the Shadow King – he insists that Marla and Jack return to Faera with him to help vanquish the deadly threat.

As the evil Shadow Fae challenge Leif’s father, King Telophy, by enslaving many of his subjects, Jack conceives a way to stop them – by risking everything and drawing Marla and Leif into the shadows.
Can they save Faera in time?

Who will Marla choose? Jack or Prince Leif?

By taking her Earth-born characters back into the magical faery kingdom, Wiltshire skilfully speaks to the angst and turmoil many young people will relate to – a path of self discovery and finding one’s place in the world.
Wiltshire places Marla in great jeopardy, facing choices with far-reaching consequences that affect her adopted Earth family, her best friend Jack and a lost twin brother.

I didn’t think it was possible but ‘Allegiance’ was even better than the first novel in the series, ‘Betrothed’.

The story begins with Marla back on Earth and when it comes to Leif she has a kind of amnesia – let’s just say team Jack fans will be very pleased!

Eventually Leif returns and Marla and Jack travel to Faera. The subjects of Telophy are vanishing and the two prove helpful in discovering more about the shadowy threat to Leif’s homeland. There is also an amazing discovery about Marla’s fae family and so many other good twists and turns – it’s impossible to stop reading!

The time in Faera also gives Marla a chance to look at her relationship with both Leif and Jack. Despite the ties that bond her to Leif, Marla begins to question her relationship with him. Marla is what I would call a quiet protagonist. But as she establishes a place for herself within the world of Faera she starts blossoming – and I can’t wait to see her character arc across the series. Watch out Leif!

The King is another character I can’t wait to see develop. I think he is the most intriguing person in the story – horrendous one moment and compassionate the next. While nothing will excuse his behaviour, I just know there is more to him than meets the eye. I’m excited to see the author delve into his past and motivations.

While people could mistake this book in being a purely romance novel, the thing I like about it is it highlights the importance of all kinds of love and bonds – with family, friends and romantic partners. I loved the fact all the characters are flawed and because of this, so too are their relationships. This book highlighted that just because you are meant to be in someone’s life doesn’t make it easy – you have to keep an open mind, be able to compromise and all the while stick up for yourself and what you believe in – tough work – no wonder all the characters fumble!

Okay... Allegiance... I loved it. It was pretty amazing, though am I the only one who was frustrated with it on so many levels?

I was frustrated by Leifs and Marlas relationship, with Marla and Jack, with Marla and the king.

Okay I think I was mainly frustrated with Marla. I just wanted her to get it into her mind that shes with Leif. he loves her and she, herself, loves him. Isn't that all?
Like doesn't love conquer all?

What I really want is this true, deep conversation to occur where they can work on there problems because there annoying.

the king and Marlas relationship is weird. I cant think of anything else to describe it. I feel like the king really needs someone there for him and that Marla can be that person and i really want to find out more about his past with her mum. I think is really interesting.

Jack and marla. I feel like there friendship is one-sided. Like honestly, i felt like jack could have just backed off a bit. I get the friendship thing, but jack reminded me of like a possessive boyfriend. He needs to be aware of his position

Finally, i think Marla has this potential to be this amazing, independent character who can face anything and has a backbone. right now, she reminds me of a puppy. a bit weak. Like a caterpillar about to turn into a butterfly.

Overall, I loved this book. It was amazing. I loved the shadow Fae and how theres talk of something else rising up head. I really hope its like a huge battle packed with action. OMG and Marla could find herself through that.
That would be cool.

I am a huge fan of betrothed and I was  lucky enough to be receive a  ARC  of Allegiance by Wanda Wiltshire.

After finishing Betrothed  i was very excited to find out what would happen next and  Allegiance does not disappoint.

Starts were Betrothed  left off, Allegiance see Marla back home with her human family and friends. As she to come to terms with her decision to leave Faera, her family and the love of her life.
Marla  tries to settle back into the life she knew before leif but she knew that this was never going to be easy.

Just as she starts to return to some kind of human existence her world is turned upside down.

There is so much that I would like to say about Allegiance but I don't want to give anything away.

Wanda has truly create a beautiful and idealistic world that you will instantly be drawn into. With characters you will love and others that you will love to hate.

The twist and turns will have you turning pages and say 'just one more chapter'. But once you start Allegiance you will be hooked until the end. Not to mention that will leave you counting down the days until the next book on the beautiful series Flys onto our shelf.

Well Wanda has achieved the unachievable! It took me a while to read and finish allegiance due to work and other commitments but well done Wanda I enjoyed every bit!! You created a unbelievable love triangle making it hard to choose who should be with who... You've shown the vulnerable side to every character in the book shown your readers who they really are and the facade they can create... You've introduced multiple new characters flawlessly and gave a perfect example of what family is and that your family will support you no matter what..... The main characters that have been there since the start have spread there wings becoming more of a person then a book character.... And jack well now he has to be an actor playing those shadow fae like it was nothing... Well done Wanda I'm looking forward to confused and to see where you'll take the characters I just wish I didn't have to wait so long xx

When the reader meets Amy Smith in Betrothed she is a seventeen year old girl struggling with allergies and bad health. That, together with the school bullying she has endured has impacted her self-esteem in a negative way. So when the drop-dead gorgeous Leif appears in her dreams, it’s no surprise she is more than ready to be swept off her feet. Leif’s story is seductive. He is the Fae Prince, next in line to inherit a kingdom in the enchanting land of Faera. She is his betrothed, possessor of a piece of his soul and owner of his heart – outcast at the order of his father, the powerful King Telophy. Now I’m sure there are teenage girls in the real world able to resist the likes of Leif and his compelling tale – confident girls who know exactly what they want with careful plans ready to go out and get it. Like me, Amy is not one of them – I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life until I was in my forties … But back to Amy. It’s not long until she is utterly smitten with Leif and the enticing land of Faera, and soon finds herself identifying with her birth name, Marla. In Betrothed the newly named Marla pretty much has a one track mind – Overcome the King so she can have Leif and Faera. She doesn’t give a lot of thought to what she would be leaving behind. Of course there are hints of what Marla has ahead of her should her dreams come true – but nothing too worthy of her attention – or so she thinks.

In the second instalment of Marla’s story, the rose coloured glasses begin to slip down her nose. She soon discovers that life in Faera is not all she imagined it would be. Not only is she required to make uncomfortable ties to the despised King Telophy – the man who ruined her family, but being betrothed to the prince presents challenges she feels ill-equipped to deal with. On top of all that, there are dangers lurking in the Shadows of Faera. It’s enough to make a girl consider the boy she left behind!

My goodness, where do I start?

AH-MAZ-ING!!!! Wanda Wiltshire has delivered another riveting installment to the Betrothed series. Just like Betrothed I was left wanting more.

Being a huge fan of Betrothed I was absolutely over the moon when I received Allegiance for review. It was so easy to slip back into this amazing world Wanda has created. I greeted the characters like old friends and fell in love with them and Faera all over again.

Marla is back home with her family on earth and is suffering a great depression being separated from Leif. After weeks of laying in bed crying, Marla receives a letter from Leif, a letter that would lift her depression and help her move on with her life. Poor Marla, I could really feel her heart breaking in two and I shed a few tears for her.

Since reading the letter Marla feels like her old self, she's back to school, hanging with her friends, and realises that her feelings for Jack have gotten stronger, things start to heat up between them. But things can't stay like this forever and Leif returns to claim what is rightfully his. Leif whisks Marla back to Faera where she belongs, he strikes up a bargain with his father to allow Marla Allegiance.

So much is happening in Faera, more Fae are disappearing and the Shadow Fae are to blame.

Things between Leif and Marla really heat up the pages, I swear you could see them start to smoke. ;-)

With a gripping storyline, a few twists and turns to keep you on edge and a few new characters to love, one in particular you love to hate lol. By the end you're left wanting more. Faera is a place you never want to leave.

I look forward to book three "Confused" and seeing where Wanda will take us next. :-)

* From the publisher for review *

Allegiance by Wanda Wiltshire is the second in the Betrothed series, and picks up right where Betrothed left off.

We catch up with Marla, who has left Faera, and is upset about leaving her betrothed Leif behind. Marla is supported by her best friend Jack and after realising her romantic feelings for him, they become an item.

This is the beginning (or continuation) of a love triangle between the three main characters (Marla, Jack and Leif) and the romance forms a large part of the novel. There is physical yearning - between both couples - that is repeatedly denied and which reminded me of Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that Allegiance will appeal to readers who loved the Twilight series. However if I'm honest, this isn't me.

The book started to pick up for me when Marla returned to Faera and started to assist in the tracking down of the Shadow Fae. It was interesting learning about the evil and darkness in Faera (not just all the good stuff) including the origin and methods of the Shadow Fae. Their motivations and reasons for bringing horror upon the citizens of Faera was realistic and fit with the fantasy world the author has created.

This darkness and tension was definitely more my style and I really enjoyed this part of the novel. Even more, my reading was enhanced by the use of a handmade and personalised bookmark from the author (pictured left).

The next in the series is called Confused and is due for release in 2015.

I really enjoyed the second book to the betrothed series although the beginning with Marla and Jack sort of got me because of the amount of intimacy she is willing to share with someone who is not her betrothed. Leif comes back and takes her to Faera as well as Jack but in return he promised his father to be a servant. You see a less cruel side of king telophy and understand why his subjects love him so much. One thing that really annoyed me was HAIGEN. Dear god, I was praying for one of the shadow fae to kill that girl. Poor, poor Marla having to deal with her fawning all over Leif when she has a betrothed of her own Classin. Like seriously, if you have a betrothed you have no rights trying to take another's. This one bit I was really angry:

" oh, but he did not think you would answer. He thought you were dead. He told me so."
'That can't have been easy for him.'
She leaned close and shot me a sly grin 'I did my best to console him.'

Hold up there, did you just say what I thought you did. Leif has got to stop encouraging her. I would appreciate less HAIGEN and Leif moments and more Marla and Leif moments. I just know that Heigen is evil and she has something up her sleeve for the next book and when she pokes her nose around the corner next time.

Great book written by a wonderful author. You can obviously see the amount of FEELS that come along with this book. Excited for the next instalment

After the unfortunate events that happened in the land of Faera, Marla is quickly forgetting her Faery Prince.
Something is wrong, but Marla cant quite put her finger on it, all of a sudden she is seeing her best friend Jack in a different way and he seems to make the weird empty feeling vanish. Leif unwilling to part with his betrothed has formed a deal with his father King Telophy. Leif will travel to earth and win back the love of Marla. Back in the land of Faera, more subjects are vanishing and shadows seem to be appearing more and more each passing night. What will become of the kingdom? Luckily for the kingdom, Leif returns with Marla and Jack at his side. They are determine to help vanquish the deadly threat and save those who have been taken. Although Marla remembers her betrothed, she will need the help from both Leif and Jack with the challenges they are about to face. When things become clearer who will she choose?

I really enjoyed book two of the Betrothed series. As in the first book, I became really attached to the characters and the challenges they had to face. I could feel how each one had felt and hoped as I continued the story, that they managed to survive the threats they faces at each corner. The way Wanda has written the story was amazing, and very well thought-out. Honestly the best thing I can say without getting into spoilers is that I loved this book, I cannot believe the ending however and now I cannot wait to read the next book in the series!

Great 2nd instalment in the Betrothed series!!! Marla and Leif's story continues - although betrothed, they still struggle and have to fight to be together and new adventures head their way.. Marla is on a mission to find her missing twin, her bestfriend Jack proves to be complicated yet helpful and the curse of the Shadow Fae lingers as faeries go missing - are shadow fae real? is there such thing as a Shadow King? Well written page turner, I thoroughly enjoyed this and look forward to part 3 now!!!

I loved the first book and I loved this book to. I found that it was just as good as the first one and I can't wait until the #3 one comes out!!! I found though that the last couple of chapters where a bit rushed and that frankly kind of Ruined this amazing story.other than that I have loved this series because of its creativity and amazing quality to have me hooked for life. I think that Wanda out did herself with this series and I can't wait to see how the next book turns out. I'm sure that it will be able to top this one simply because I have complete faith that it will.!

The storyline had potential. I found the main character incredibly irritating. Read if you have the desire to be aggravated by a weepy, scatter-brained supposedly (idk why) main character. 1st book was better.

Just wow. Loved this book more than the first after wrapping my head around the events of Betrothed.

The love triangle between Leif and Jack has me on my seat and I will admit I do get pretty torn as you have the prince who sees all the female faeries all over him as normal, and then Marla who hates seeing it, but is still hung up on Jack? And then there is Haigen... ughhh 🙄🙃 i get her and Leif are very close friends, But she obviously feels more for him and makes it blatantly obvious to Marla which gets on my nerves. Completely disrespectful. Leif doesn’t help the situation either.

The character and story development is wonderful and am really enjoying this series. Especially interesting about getting to know a bit more about King Telophy, which I’m sure the following books will also touch on more. Also seeing the more dark side of Faera keeps me interested after it being painted as the perfect fairytale land in Betrothed.

Overall, really enjoyed the book and characters.

24th of May - 24th of May 2024

DNF - 25%

Literally all they’ve done in this book is kiss each other where’s the plot?? There’s a love triangle where the fmc is cheating on both of them and they both know it?? 😭😭 it’s so messed up.

“Do you think he’d resent us for a few more kisses?” - Jack

“I belonged to Leif, I knew that. But right now he was in another world.” Girll what??

Basically she’s “betrothed” to this fae prince, they get separated and he releases her from their bond. If he didn’t she’ll get depressed and suffer from sadness. While she forgets about him she ends up dating her best friend who she’s known since forever. Her best friend knows that the “one for her” is Leif (the fae prince) but decides to date her anyways. Leif tells him that once he sorts out everything in court, he’ll take the fmc back. He’s ok with Jack doing stuff with her because it’s her choice but he’s going to take her back anyways. I don’t know it’s a mess and I don’t want to read it. Just to clarify when she got released from the bond she lost her memories of Leif and Jack “filled in” the space that she was missing. She was however, in love with him since year 7 and if Leif didn’t come along, she probably would have been with Jack. The books so far is literally just her making out with both guys. I mean kudos to her but it’s not interesting to read. 😭

The way that it’s written as well makes the main character sound really immature and it’s hard to be in her POV. I feel like she also has “main character syndrome” where everything goes well for her and everyone loves her. The issue is that she’s the one that’s causing the problems and whining and hurting other people.

This review is not edited so idk and I feel like there’s a cockroach in my room because I can hear something rustling *fingers crossed* it’s not

I really wanted to like this book.

The potential of the series was evident in the fine writing displayed in the first book in this series, Betrothed. I hoped that the sequel would get past the drooling-and-pawing-of-each-others'-gorgeous-bodies-in-a-pseudo-chaste-kind-of way that I felt marred the opening book.

More action, less panting rapture was on my wish list.

Well, there's good news and bad news.

The sexual taunting of the first book is diminished, though not entirely absent. There's far more plot and less erotic teasing. Big tick. The plot is convoluted and clever and satisfyingly twisty.

However, ultimately I cannot recommend this book because of its disturbing undertones.

Anyone acquainted with research into pornography (and I am through a couple of friends who are writing about the damaging effects of sexual addiction on relationships) knows that partial nudity is actually more tantalising than full. Thus the 'chaste nakedness' of Marla and Leif in so many circumstances is more suggestive, provocative and addictive than if they were in a fully engaged sexual relationship.

This alone would make it difficult to recommend to anyone I know in the target audience. However, far more disturbing for me was the delineation of Marla's relationship with King Telophy, Leif's father. The change that comes over her as a consequence of the ceremony of allegiance was nuanced in such a way that it suggested it was meant to portray the ecstatic union of a divine covenantal relationship.

However it came across in a perverted way - exactly the opposite of what it should. Instead of her perception changing to show Telophy as he really is, it seemed to show him as he really wasn't. Darkness and light seemed inverted.

I doubt I will continue with this series. I started it in the first place at the behest of a friend who wanted to know my opinion.

While there are many elements of the storyline I admire and find intriguing (my favourite character by a long shot is still Jack who becomes more interesting in each story), I am not finding the books overall are to my taste. In many ways it is a pity I'm ready to abandon the series at this point because I would like to find out how it is resolved.

But c'est la vie.

Having returned home, it seems that Marla has forgot all about her Faery Prince Leif, having started to date her best friend Jack... which she wasn't expecting.
A love triangle takes shape between Leif, Marla and Jack and things start to get rough, since Leif doesn't want to let Marla go and even dares to defy his father, King Telophy, in order to win back Marla.
Meanwhile, in Faera, more and more faeries seem to be the victims of a dark presence, adding to the tension that the royal family already lives. When Leif hears this he flies back to Faera, with Marla and Jack, hoping they can help to annihilate the threat.
While living this dangerous adventure, Marla feels conflicted between her feelings for both guys and starts to lean on both of them for support. Is that fair? She has to choose, but who will she choose?
Can they save Faera in time?
This is an exciting continuation to an already amazing story. I never thought I would like love triangles but this one was well placed and excellently handled!
Magical worlds and magical characthers are a must and this book has them, besides that the writing is beautiful and engaging. I have to admit that I was a little afraid that the story was a little cliché but it wasn't and that scored many points for me!
Through this book we dive deeper into the love story if Marla and Leif and what's been happening between them and their families and finally get a good glimpse at Faera!!!
This is an excellent book for fantasy lovers and, even if you aren't you should give them a chance because you're not going to regret it!

I loved this for the most part. so many things to love in this story. I'm sad it took me so long to finish it, and even sadder that the next instalment is taking even longer to arrive.

I really hope marla gets use of her wings back soon because that girl needs to recover properly before diving into more life threatening situations.
I found the scenes with king telophy and marla quite interesting. he's a complex guy! I wanna know more about him.

I love the action, the fantasy, and the gushy romantic parts too but the only improvement I think these books needs is better writing and dialogue... but in saying that I certainly think the story is delivered well enough thru the writing.

I actually rate this 3.5 stars. official review to come tomorrow on my blog
