Ethan Parker, a billionaire determined to bring professional hockey to Seattle, will stop at nothing to realize his dream. Lauren Schneider, Assistant Director of Player Personnel for the Giants hockey team, gets no respect from the team's testosterone-loaded staff. So when Ethan bursts onto the scene, full of charm and genuinely interested in her opinions, she shares the team's weaknesses and discovers a weakness of her own--for Ethan. Bound by an employment contract, Lauren reluctantly moves to Seattle to work for the newly christened Seattle Sockeyes and her sexy, infuriating boss.

Lauren and Ethan must come to terms with their passions--for the team, for hockey, and for each other. Will their situation build a frozen wall between them, or will their love burn hot enough to melt the ice shielding their hearts?

I happen to enjoy sports themed books. I can appreciate the focus, desire and need to be great; also respect the sacrifices made. There can be a type of honor in sports if done right. There is also the aspect of business, though, which can sometimes tarnish all those efforts.

This books touches on both of these things as well as another huge challenge: women in positions of power in sports leagues. It really doesn't matter which sport it is... women have a hard time rising to levels of real difference in most sports. In this book,it is Hockey.

Lauren is the Giant's team facilitator... she is the Assistant Director of Player Personnel. She does so much more and has worked hard to overcome the bias of the sport. Oh, she knows bias, alright.... her dad is a legend of the sport and the only time he connected with her was when she showed an interest in what he was drilling into her two brothers on the ice. Lauren tried to make her dad proud by learning everything she could...and it took... She is the expert of stats, players, trends and the future of the ice. She scouts and picks out talent before anyone can recognize it... but when she talks of methods to win or talent to pluck from other teams... no one listens... or if they do ... they steal the ideas and get credit for them because they are guys. She loves her team... wishes to make advances and modernize decision making but it falls on deaf ears. This team is in trouble. The Florida city is not embracing Hockey and the Hockey league is tired of carrying it financially.

Enter Ethan... Hockey fan to the max. He is the young guy who never gave up the love of the sport. He wasn't talented enough to turn pro, even experienced teasing about not being a jock as a kid... so he switched to football- but his love is Hockey... and he has vowed to bring it to Seattle. He comes for a family who has always given back to the community and this is Ethan's goal. He has lined up the investors and the Giants are for sale. He closes the deal and is elated...there is just one little problem... there is a gag order- no talking about it to anyone. If the deal comes out in the press too soon- he loses the team and everything he has worked for is gone in an instant.

Ethan needs to see what is what with the team- who to keep...who to trade and who to fire... The only way is to lie... present himself as a consultant hired by a third party to see how everything is with the team. He will infiltrate, learn everything and do it with Lauren's help unbeknownst to her. She will assist him per the league's dictates.

This brings Ethan and Lauren together...she has a feeling something is up.... the players have the same vibe and Ethan cannot share anything... will they all be able to make the transition to Seattle intact... will the chemistry these two have hold them together once the lies told come out.... only time with tell.

This is a new series and there are a few characters which were introduced to hook you for more books. It was a fun pleasant read.... but there was a lot of repetition of how much he hated misleading her, about who he was
and how this was not the way he would usually do business. It got to be too much for me.

Other wise, it was a fun book with insight to the female dilemma in sports.

☆ I received an ARC from Tasty Book Tours in exchange for an honest review. Thank you SO MUCH!! ☆

#What a cute, sports romance! <3

This book was basically:

Undercover boss

description

Meets hockey

description

But with love(♥), lies, and twists and turns in the midst.

description

My thoughts and some brief plot info and explanation:

Skating on Thin Ice reminded me of what happens when you mix business with pleasure.

# For Ethan Parker, rich, billionaire business mogul--

description

hockey is his life. Determined to bring the sport he loves to Seattle, he purchases the franchise of another city's team in hopes of pursuing his dream.

However, with a contract that binds him from making his latest purchase public, Ethan decides to go undercover boss on his new investment, and ends up committing the most taboo sins a employer can do: falling in love with one of his employees.

# As for Lauren Schneider, Assistant Director of Player Personnel for the Giants hockey team--

description

it was about proving herself. Being the only estrogen in the testosterone driven hockey world, Lauren receives no respect from fellow staff. Resigned and hopeful that this will someday come to pass, Lauren begins to feel more optimistic after meeting Ethan--a man who actually listens to her and values her opinions. And whom she's slowly falling for.

But what happens when the truth is revealed and Lauren learns that he is not a consultant for the team but, in fact, her boss?...Not to mention, thanks to her big mouth, Ethan begins using her insight of the team's infrastructure to christen his new hockey team. What will she do?

One thing's for certain: ANYTHING is possible in the game of love!! What will be the fate of Ethan and Lauren? And will they ever achieve their dreams?

Read and you will find out!

So all in all: A sweet romance that even non-sports fans can enjoy!! Jami Davenport makes one hell of a great splash from her patented Seattle Lumberjacks series (which focuses on football) to ambitiously bringing hockey to Seattle as well! I already can't wait to see what's in store for bk2!

I liked this and I feel completely on the hook for the rest of the series (especially Cooper's story). But I did think the conflict was overdone. The heroine knew, she saw the writing on the wall, heard the rumors, put two and two together, but still signed a contract and cried "foul" and "liar", when the truth was out. Maybe if the chemistry had been better established, or there had been more heart-to-hearts about past issues, I could have swallowed that they were a love match.

I did like it, like the promise of a team series, but I didn't feel the love.

Even though I technically quickly skimmed this I'm going to call it a DNF. I found the writing very repetitive. We're shown and then told over and over the same things. The focus was one the lusty thoughts these two had for each other repeatedly and why they shouldn't act on it. Both MC's ended up coming across as juveniles ruled by their hormones and physical reactions to each other. I prefer a more emotional connection and find constant descriptions of lusty reactions tiresome. The emotional connection was created it was just drowned in all the other.

I think plenty of people will enjoy this one. It's just not my thing.

Promising premise, but awful execution. The writing was so annoying, and nothing moved at a good pace. The chemistry was pretty unbelievable, too. Overall, not a good choice.

Jami Davenport writes an exciting hockey romance with sizzling chemistry and just the right amount of tension. Ethan Williams has always been obsessed with hockey and his dream has been to buy a professional hockey team. Ethan comes to gather information about the Giants a professional hockey team while they are in the playoffs and he is keeping his real identity a secret from everyone. While he is there, Ethan doesn’t count on meeting Lauren. Lauren is assigned to help Ethan and answer any questions he may have about the team. Lauren loves hockey and knows everything about it. She works in a clerical position for the Giants and is hard working, independent and speaks her mind. She finds it frustrating working in this male dominated world because she isn’t taken her seriously. Ethan admires everything about Lauren and he can’t stop thinking about her. She knows hockey plus she is sexy as hell. They work closely together and although Lauren doesn’t trust Ethan, she is attracted to him. Ethan knows he should keep things professional and impersonal but he has a hard time fighting his growing attraction to Lauren.

Even though Ethan is wealthy, he is a nice guy. He always tries to do the right thing and is never condescending. He is hardworking, fair, and nice to everyone. No one on the Giants team trusts Ethan, but they grudgingly start to respect him. I especially like how Ethan treats Lauren, he never tries to take advantage of her and he is impressed with her knowledge about hockey.

This is the first book in the Game On in Settle series. I enjoyed everything about this story, the writing, characters and the passion between Ethan and Lauren. Jami Davenports writes an intoxicating story with realistic characters who are struggling to do the right thing under tough circumstances. I like both Ethan and Lauren and wanted them to work through their problems so they could find a way to be together.

Ethan has finally realized his dream of bringing the NHL to Seattle, and he can't wait to start looking at the details of the team more closely. Luckily, he has Lauren, Assistant Director of Player Personnel to help him gather the information he wants. It also doesn't hurt that there is quite a bit of chemistry between the two. The problem: Ethan can't tell Lauren he is the new team owner due to a gag order from the league. Lauren has been lied to before; once she finds out she has been deceived, will she forgive him?

**I was provided with a copy in exchange for a fair and honest review**
This was a great start to a series! I felt as though I was in from the beginning with the "new" team and the characters were great. Ethan and Lauren are both driven, yet torn in how to continue with each other, and I appreciated that Ms. Davenport had their relationship develop at a normal pace rather than the instantaneous head-over-heels, love-at-first-sight that tends to be prevalent in current romance. To me, that build up is what made the story so believable--of course we know there is a reveal followed by an HEA, but at the same time the suspense comes from not knowing when/how things are going to be fixed.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone!

Audio/Ebook Review: Skating on Thin Ice: Seattle Sockeyes Hockey (Game On in Seattle, #1) by Jami Davenport (Author), Shaina Summerville (Narrator)

Anytime there are two strong personalities, a clash is inevitable. Yet, Davenport is an ace at managing the fallout. Skating on Thin Ice is a passionate drama that feeds off the heat of attraction and slowly exposes the heart underneath. Lauren and Ethan are my favorite Davenport characters because they go after what they want instead of watching from the sidelines. I'd read the book first and sort of fell into the audio later, but Summerville is pure gold. Her narration is spot on and captivating to listen to.

This was a decent enough read. I liked it for the most part, just think it could have been vastly improved upon. The romance kinda bored me, sure the foundations were there, but it never felt like anything real was built upon it. Asides from Hockey and being physically attracted to one another, what did these two really have to bond over? I don’t know, I just would have liked for them to have gotten to know one another a bit more outside of hockey. I think the fact that Ethan had to hide his identity played a big part in why it never felt like they actually knew one another, but there are certainly ways to get around that but the lazy route was chosen instead.

Skating on Thin Ice held a number of firsts for me; the first book I have read by Jami Davenport, the first focussing around ice-hockey and the first in a new series. And, whilst it didn't hold any particular surprises, on the whole it was a promising start to the series; sweet and enjoyable with some drama and an injection of hot along the way.

When Ethan Parker's dreams come true and he's given the opportunity to purchase the Giants, an established ice hockey team in Florida, he grabs it. Slapped with a gagging order until the end of the season, he goes undercover to discover all he can in preparation of when the reveal is made. A reveal that will involve relocating the team to Seattle. Lauren Schneider, Assistant Director of Personnel, knows her stuff, but fights against the old boys club daily. When Ethan shows he is genuinely interested in her thoughts and opinions, she's blown away and it's not long before she's fighting her own feelings for her charming sexy new boss. Feelings that are mutual.

They had a great chemistry together and when things do get up close and personal it brings some heat. Both appreciate each other's work ethic and strive for the team to be the best, but with Ethan holding back there is the premise of it all blowing up. The story flows well, but I was expecting more heading towards the finish line as it certainly seemed to be heading that way. But with a whole raft of secondary characters - players and personnel, the way has been paved for much more in the series. If an easy read sweet, sexy, sports orientated romance is what you're looking for, then this is that.

3.5 stars.

First of all: Buy this in digital format only. Do not buy it in paperback. By the time I got to the end of this book, I was desperate for the next book. If I would have had a paperback, I would have torn it apart looking for it. I checked the last 10 pages like 15 times trying to find more of the next book. I felt like a junkie looking for heroin. Mrs. Davenport set the bar super high with the first book in this series. It is about the leader of a group bringing hockey to Seattle from Florida. He goes in incognito and makes some friends. He also meets someone, who helps him figure out who he wants to bring to Seattle. Watching him meet someone who he can’t tell the truth and them deal with all their secrets is extremely interesting. This book is a one sitting book. You won’t get up once you start. You don’t have to like hockey to like this book. Hockey is an integral part of this book, but not the sport itself. This book focuses more on the business and behind the scenes aspects. This is an outstanding contemporary romance with an HEA. If that’s what you’re looking for, you won’t be disappointed reading this book.

"I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads."

I love hockey / sports romance stories and Jami Davenport is one of the best authors in this genre - so I was delighted when I got a copy of this great story to read. Once again a great new series hits the scene and adds to my must read list.

The story is cleverly plotted, as one protagonist knows all and sees the train crash approaching, but just cannot resist getting on anyway. The heat between the two leads is natural, and develops alongside some interesting threads on women's role in sport too. The future cast list is introduced through the book and I am excited to see how the Sockeyes settle in Seattle.

In Seduced by the Game there is novella 1.5 in the series called Crashing The Boards. I shall be reading this asap - it features Cooper.

Listen, I don't need your approval. I can read a trashy-ass book if I want. (This one was monotonous, with one-ply protagonists and some extremely suburban sex.)

Whatever her other shortcomings, the author did cannily copyright the name of her imaginary hockey team, the Seattle Sockeyes. Consequently, Seattle's real-life hockey team cannot use that name and will be forced to go by the obviously inferior Seattle Kraken. This story mightily outstrips the book's plot in entertainment value.

Meh. Your standard contemporary romance set amongst a professional athletic team. Declarations of love are sudden and not quite supported by the context. Lots of sensual narration to balance out the lack of actual relationship building and graphic sex scenes that don’t progress the plot, easily skipped. The ending is your typical marriage HEA, thankfully lacking a baby on the way. I’ve read worse, but I’ve also read so, so much better.

I loved Rachel Gibson's Chinook hockey series, and I started this hoping it might come close. It does! This is a great start to a new hockey series, and I look forward to the next in the series. I understand Crashing the Boards, numbered 1.5, will be available Nov. 1 as a single. It's now available in an anthology.

This took me a bit to get into for whatever reason, but once I did I was sucked in and really enjoyed it! I like sports romance anyway and this was was a good one. I liked the characters and their romance, even if I didn't like their circumstances. Not his (or her) fault BTW. I was happy with the ending and hope to continue the series!

Billionaire, Ethan Parker, is on a mission to bring a professional hockey team to Seattle. He has an agreement to buy the Gainesville Giants hockey team and plans to relocate them from Florida. Part of the agreement is that the deal cannot be revealed until after the playoffs. Until then, Ethan goes undercover with the Giants as a consultant to learn everything he can about the team.

As Assistant Director of Player Personnel for the Giants, Lauren Schneider, is assigned to help consultant, Ethan Williams. She has enjoyed working with Ethan but feels betrayed when she discovers he has been lying about his identity and is about to become her boss.

I respect Lauren. She loves hockey and wants a career in the sport. Being a woman that is not easy. While I was reading this book, I came across an article in Huffington Post’s Sports Section entitled, “How Hard Is It to Make It to the NHL?” by Emily Cornelius. I had to laugh at one of her quotes and thought it was the perfect companion to this book. Cornelius wrote, “I won't even get into the frustrations of a female hockey player who has a better chance of winning the lottery, while getting struck by lightning in a double rainbow than making it to the NHL... ” Even though Lauren’s career is on the staff side, I still thought the statement was appropriate to her situation. She was dealing with a lot of old-school hockey players, including her father, and not getting the respect she deserved. That is until, Ethan came into the picture.

Speaking of Ethan, I appreciate that he is progressive, and he loves hockey so much that he wants to share it with the city he calls home. I know that he didn’t like lying, and it went against his character but it still bothered me a that he did it. Had it been me, I probably would have never gone undercover, in which case we wouldn’t have a story; a very good story at that.

I am a huge hockey fan. Even though I live in Chicago, I would love to see an expansion team in Seattle. It is a great city, and I could see a NHL team doing well there. Especially considering that the first US team to win a Stanley Cup in 1917 was the Seattle Metropolitans which played until 1924. With all the talks of possible expansion teams in Seattle and Las Vegas, I think the timing of this book is perfect, making it all the more believable and exciting. I can see a ton of potential for this series and what the team will go through being a new team, in a new city.

As for Skating on Thin Ice’s plot, it was refreshing and interesting. There were a lot of hockey scenes but also a ton about the business side of professional sports which was fascinating. Plus, it included an office romance that was trying to be avoided; not to mention all the drama and uncertainty of all the people affected in the Giant’s organization.

I have enjoyed the books I have read in Jami Davenport’s Seattle Lumberjacks football series, I also am really excited that she decided to start a hockey series. Between Skating on Thin Ice and Crashing the Boards, she has done an admiral job transitioning sports. I look forward to seeing what else she comes up with in the Game On in Seattle Series.

This was a free download from Amazon, but that was not an influence on my review.

I enjoyed this slightly steamy romance setting up a hockey/sports romance series. There is definitely no shortage of hot guys and/or women to set up a good story. This one gives us Ethan - a billionaire heading up a committed group of investors who are dedicated to bringing professional hockey to Seattle - and the team that's available is in Florida and currently headed for the playoffs. Through a somewhat convoluted series of events, he poses as a business consultant/analyst, giving him access to the team and management, including Lauren. Lauren is a woman in a man's world - struggling to prove herself. She got the job as a result of her name (her father was a respected hockey player) and clawed her way into a position with some responsibility but knows that with the organization as it is currently she will never be anything more. And more is what she wants. Ethan is attracted to her - for her knowledge of the game as well as personally - and sees what she could bring to the team when he moves it to Seattle. They both have trust issues because of past lovers and, of course, Ethan hiding who/what he is does not help and comes out at the worst possible time. I liked this well enough that I'm going to be reading on in this series - the next one deals with a hot hockey player who's ticked off after the team moves and he was definitely my pick for the next story.

I'm not to keen into sports books, though romance I will read.

turns out this book isnt all too heavy into the romance in my opinion and I really liked that about this book. It helped me to focus on what was going on for the buyer and the team.

Despite having no knowledge of hockey in the slightest, I found myself enjoying this book and actually feeling some worry for the two main characters as this was basically "My Undercover Boss" meets with hockey. I have yet to read a book with this theme and might look into the second book in this series in the future.

Good book and a very nice start to a series, but it obviously is the first book in a series because several plot lines were unresolved at the end of the book.

The main characters were interesting and fairly well-drawn, but the set-up for the “big misunderstanding” was obvious from the first, as was its resolution.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Skating on Thin Ice is a great start to Ms. Davenport’s new Game On in Seattle series. Being a fan of her Seattle Lumberjacks series, I was excited for the opportunity to read this book. I enjoy sports romances and am finding that hockey-based sports romances are becoming a favorite – despite my lack of actual exposure to the sport. Fortunately, this book does not disappoint.

Lauren hails from a hockey family and would be considered a legacy if not for the fact that she was born female. But like everyone else in her family, she lives and breathes hockey, she just does it the only way she can, as a member of the Giants’ staff. Sadly, the handicap of being born female (yes that was sarcasm) means that she’s still not taken seriously by the “old boys’ club” that pervades the sport, even in management. That is, until Ethan walks in the door. While the full level of his involvement is concealed, Ethan makes it clear that he is there to evaluate the Giants for investors looking to purchase the struggling hockey team and his research sends him to Lauren as the person with the most useful knowledge of the Giants despite her current position within the franchise. He quickly learns that she’s even more knowledgeable than he suspected and finds that her brains and passion for hockey only intensify her attractiveness. When he realizes that the attraction is mutual, well that makes keeping it “professional” that much more difficult. Between the gag order the league has him under and the relationship baggage both Lauren and Ethan possess it’s clear that things will not end well, but that isn’t enough to deter either of them from getting involved. Let me just say … steamy! Inevitably, the $h*t hits the fan and Ethan is unable to prevent the fallout that sends Lauren running. Ethan has to decide how far he’s willing to go to keep Lauren in his life.

Ms. Davenport has created a great cast of characters, many of whom are clearly poised for their own book as they make their new home in Seattle. As much as I enjoyed Ethan, it was Lauren’s character that I absolutely loved. The strength of character and independence she had to possess in order to work her way up in such a male-dominated field is impressive, especially considering that she works for the same organization as her father and it’s fairly easy to deduce that he did little to support her career choice. Then to find herself in the precarious position between Ethan (whose organization could offer her and the team better opportunities) and her father (whose group would not) was not an enviable one, especially when her father tries to use “family” as a way to guilt her into feeding him information. Thank goodness for Brad and his crazy idea! Not only does Skating on Thin Ice give Lauren the resolution she deserves, it also sets the stage for the series and I for one am looking forward to the next book already – so Ms. Davenport, please write quickly.

Skating on Thin Ice is the first book in the Game On In Seattle series. I'll admit I'm not a very big ice hockey fan, but this story was a great way to introduce those who are on the fence about reading sports romances. Author Jami Davenport is a huge sports fan and sure shines through in this book about the game of hockey and the game of love!

After secretly purchasing a failing hockey team, the Gainsville Giants, billionaire Ethan Parker goes undercover in order to study his newly acquired team. The former owners, the Sleeve brothers (yes, this is really their last name and aptly named), have run the teams finances into the ground and Ethan has paid a handsome price for the team he desperately wants. When Ethan arrives in sunny Florida, he's met with an icy cold reception. Though the team hates their present owners, they are afraid the new owners will move the team from the place they've always called home. But Ethan has exactly those intentions. He wants to bring back ice hockey to his town of Seattle Washington.

Enter the beautiful, yet very suspicious, Lauren Schneider. Lauren is the assistant director of player personal for the Giants and has been assigned to answer any questions Ethan may have about the team. From the moment they meet Lauren and Ethan are drawn to each other and the sexual tension is a thick as pea soup. However, Lauren having been-there-done-that with her two-timing hockey player Ex, isn't interested in getting involved with a man she hardly knows no mater how much her body is telling her different.

This was a real eye opening book for me. Having no real knowledge of hockey, nor any idea what it's like to live in the Pacific Northwest. With the vast real life experience of living in Seattle and being a dead hard fan of the sport the author makes the reader feel like they are right there experiencing every moment. I now would love to visit the Seattle area to see the beautiful sites for myself. I recommend this book to all those lovers of romance. You don't need to be a sports fan to love this extremely intense love story. I for one look forward to the next installment in the new world I've discovered!!
