An RTC involving a biker and an artic leaves 2 dead for traffic division to investigate, around the corner is the body of a 92 year old man found dead in his own home but was it a natural death? This is the crime, or isn't it, that Freya back from her near death experience and Ben her new fiance have to clear up. Alberts best and only friend who lives opposite is missing and no one seemed to like Albert very much anyway , even his own family had no time for him. Back at the station Gillespie in his typical Glasweigan way makes one of his throwaway comments that sets off a chain of events that leaves the newest , and not popular, team mate reporting him to the Super and throws the entire team into disarray when she gives them her skewed view of how she sees all of them , while desperately trying to solve the case herself, even withholding or destroying evidence in the process, for the glory and a shining future on the force that only she sees for herself. How this story pans out and the pieces come together to form the whole picture kept me up half the night reading as I couldn't put it down until I knew if these cases were a coincidence ,or in fact, part of the same case . I have preordered the next in the series and eagerly await its arrival in my library .
A rich heiress, DCI and a farmers son, DI. An unlikely pairing but so good together. This series is my favourite of all the books I have read. I’m just disappointed to have come to the end and got a few months to wait for next book. Freyer Bloom returns to work after an horrific accident that has left her scarred badly, but it didn’t stop her from solving a new case. With the help of Ben, her fiancée and the rest of her team. A close knit family who work well together. A new member joins them and tries to put a wedge between them by accusing fellow officer. I could not put this book down once I started reading it. I would recommend this book, and the rest of the series starting at book 1. I will most likely read the series again. Enjoy.
Just found Jack Cartwright's books recently and have been able to indulge myself by reading the Wild Fans Murder Mystery series back to back. I have loved seeing the Major Crime team evolve and the characters develop throughout the stories. They are refreshingly flawed and their work and personal relationships draw the reader into their lives. The mysteries are well written and keep you in suspense without being gratuitously violent. I have enjoyed the scene setting which takes place in Lincolnshire - a beautiful county. 15 books in and looking forward to the next one.
While Freya and the team investigate the suspicious death of an elderly man, there's also a horrific road accident involving a lorry, a cyclist, and a disappearing car that has links alongside Freya's case. A new PC seconded to the team since Anderson left to return to London during Freyas' absence, seems intent on causing mayhem amongst the ranks, trying to turn the others against one another, while they try seek the glory of solving a murder by themselves... a great plot with lots of the twists and surprises we've come to expect from Jack Cartwright, another 5🌟 wild Fens book 📖
Brilliant book! Each one better than the last. I love Freya Bloom, her acerbic tongue and forthright ways. She takes no prisoners! (pardon the pun lol) Loved that she stood up for DS Gillespie, who continues to make me smile. Also love Pippa Bell, who also tells it like it is. There were many twists and turns in this as the team uncover the clues while struggling to maintain equilibrium due to one arrogant member. Jack Cartwright continues to give quality, amazing whodunnits that keep me glued to each page.
So the saga of Freya and Ben continues. To me these books get better as the series progresses. This had quite a traumatic beginning of a RTA to a murder. It is quite convoluted and I had difficulty getting my head round it to start with, but it turns out to be very good. My one concern is how one character runs into the back of the lorry whilst chasing the car that caused the accident by pulling out of a side road In front of the lorry. Still it is a very good police procedural, worthy of 5 stars and well worth a read.
Now we're back on track with Freya on the job. This time they have a dead 90 yr old man in his own home who was either murdered or attempted murder after he died if you can believe that....Freya and Ben are engaged that's good, Freya is dealing with her injuries. But the newest member of the team Jewson is a right horrible person deep down. Jim may lose his job over nonsense and the team will be tested to their limits. Cruz will have some explaining to do also! I'm still pissed over Freya's injuries which just didn't need to happen imho
A horrific crash begins this British crime thriller where Freya and her team are faced with untangling the web of lies.
I enjoyed this story, glad Freya was back...a brilliant complex character. The subplot was also engaging; I knew that Jewson was trouble. The twists and turns were cleverly done - nothing is ever straightforward.
Well-written and fast-paced, this was engaging from first to last.
Gillespie, Freya, Ben - snarky, funny, and witty repartee - I loved every word of it. An innocent remark about children by Gillespie spirals out of control because Jewson has it in for him to further her career. A nasty bit of work is Jewson. It's frightening when an 0ff-the-cuff remark can cost you everything. Highly Recommended.
Can't take any more of Freya's looking down her nose at at her "lessers" and publicly embarrassing team members. The men are always.made to.be the fools while the women just cannot do anything wrong. Enough of the narcissism and condescention.
Can’t wait until August when the last book of this series is released! I’ve enjoyed reading the previous 15 books in the series. I loved the continuity of the main characters and their interactions. I’m next reading the 5 books in the Wolds series. Hope to see more from this author. I’m a fan of police procedural novels and also of books that take place in the UK.
3.5 stars I think my interest in this series is running out. The story is interesting enough and well thought out, but I've had enough of Freya and Ben for a while. Freya consists of two people, each other's opposite to the extreme and Ben, her colleague and soon to be husband is the softy who condones all she does. The stars are for the story.
As the title says, a good plot. The new member of the team was a first division bitch, I was wondering how Gillespie was going to get out of it and was very glad that he did. He's one of the most likeable characters in the team. I have no idea why Freya is refusing plastic surgery, seems very odd.
Once again you have kept me on the edge of my seat, sometimes smiling with pleasure them plunging me into the doldrums when I thought that awful girl was going to end the series. Thankfully I was able to see light again and now can't wait for the next book.
A great series from Jack Cartwright. At times the plot gets tangled, which some will love. Very funny and a great police team . Freya and Ben really make it for me. They’re a great asset to the series.
Once again, we have a marvellous storyline in Lincolnshire involving Freya, Ben and the team with some scurrillous goings on as well! Thoroughly enjoyed this and waiting for the next one when the two lead characters might actually fully get together. Julian Tremayne, Pocklington, East Yorkshire
Just one problem with this author! I can read his stories far faster than he writes them. I have loved every one of his books and can't wait for the next.
Absolutely brilliant.. I have read the whole series so far and can’t wait for the next one. Jack Cartwright is a brilliant writer. I love all the characters.
The very best of The Wild Fens Murder Mystery Series to date! Great character and storyline development and delivery! A truly 5-star read! Bravo, bravo!
