Because of Love #3

Because of Me

Amira

There’s nothing fun about my family. They’re full of old habits and overbearing views, and if I can’t make my parents proud, I’ll have to fake it instead.

Noah was the lifeline I needed to escape my father’s scrutiny. My unexpected saviour in the form of my best friend’s cousin.

But I’ve just spun our web of lies a little too thick, and now I need more of his help than either of us planned.

Noah Nothing in my life has come easily. So when I inherited a winery from a grandmother I never met, I was determined to see it succeed. Now that it’s thriving, I still thank luck, more than skill.

It was that same luck that found me at a wedding pretending to be Amira’s boyfriend. Now, I can’t get her out of my head.

I started by playing along, but now I’m playing for keeps.

Because of Me is a spicy fake dating romance about taking chances, and fighting for what, and who, you want. A standalone story, it is the third novel in Bookstagrammer Devon May’s Because of Love series.

”I'm already halfway to loving Amira and there's no way I'm coming out of this without ending up madly in love with her.”

Oh mannnn. I love me a good fake dating romance… ESPECIALLY when the girl has no idea the guy is down bad for her. And when I say down bad… like this man has been in love with her ever since he first laid eyes on her longggg ago.

Get ready for a MAJOR he falls first, one bed, and a yummy, tension-filled fake dating story.

-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-♡-

Amira grew up in a very strict household. Her father had many rules and is now constantly trying to set her up with men he thinks are perfect for her. Amira is tired of his pushy behavior though and decides she needs to get a fake date to keep her dad off her back… but who could she ask?

Noah is the cousin of Amira’s roommate and has known Amira ever since helping them move into their apartment. From the very first time he met Amira, he’s been head over heels… but she has no idea. So when she mentions needing a fake date, he jumps at the chance to experience any kind of relationship with her.

I loved the romantic aspect of this story and how Amira was able to find love after thinking she would never experience that soulmate bond. But my favorite part of this story was how Amira was able to break through her insecurities that formed from her overbearing father and grow into her own person. Although she still wanted his approval, she learned that he didn’t have to dictate how she lived her life. I loved how Noah gently urged her to open her eyes and view her life from a different perspective.

This story beautifully captures the journey of learning that it’s okay to live life for yourself and not for others, and it shows how you can find out who you truly are and what you really want out of life along the way.

Let me just say… I loved every single second of this book. Because of Me had me yearning, feeling light and fluffy, and giggling like a teenager with a crush. I devoured it and immediately wanted to go back and reread all my favourite moments.

When I tell you I related to this FMC, I really mean it. Her struggles with her parents, their expectations, and the constant pressure to be someone she’s not? I felt that in my bones. Devon May wrote her with so much heart and honesty, I saw myself in her in a way I didn’t expect, and it made this story all the more meaningful.

I went into Because of Me expecting a sweet, fake dating romance, and while I absolutely got that, what I didn’t expect was how deeply it would hit. This wasn’t just a love story, it was a journey through self-reflection, hope, healing, and learning how to choose yourself without guilt. Devon May’s writing wrapped around me like the coziest blanket, and by the end, I felt like my heart had been gently, lovingly put back together.

And don’t even get me started on the MMC. I fell so hard for him. He’s thoughtful, grounding, and quietly protective in the best, most swoony way. He has that rare heart-of-gold energy that makes you want to climb inside the book and give him the biggest hug. His love for the FMC wasn’t loud, it was steady, patient, and unconditional. Honestly? He ruined me a little (in the best possible way).

This book delivered everything: fake dating tension, emotional depth, sizzling chemistry, and moments that genuinely made me feel seen If you’re craving a romance that’s both soft and spicy, tender and honest, Because of Me is it.

Genre(s): contemporary romance.

Overall impression: I had a really hard time reading this because I found Amira to be so unlikeable. She was cold, demanding and downright rude at times. I couldn't understand what Noah saw in her or why he would go out of his way to help her get her family off her back. The whole thing just felt so unbelievable to me. The romance was a whole lot of insta-lust and it didn't feel like the characters had any sort of emotional connection at all. The writing style was good and fast-paced but unfortunately I didn't enjoy the storyline this time.

Yes it’s book 3 but it’s a stand alone… and by an Aussie author! I loved reading this book because it’s set in my city. And had me often asking “ooo does this place really exist?!”
I enjoyed this book a lot and found it was very easy to read. Everything just flows together nicely and held my attention.
I loved Noah’s patience and perseverance. I do wish Amira stood up for herself a little bit more, but then that wouldn’t have made the book as interesting.

This was a first for me by the author and it won’t be the last! Because of Me delivers all the swoony chaos you could want from a fake dating romance… with just the right touch of angst and heart. Amira and Noah have instant chemistry (even if she doesn’t want to admit it to herself), and watching them navigate the mess they’ve created (and kind of love) is addictive. Throw in a found family vibe, a vineyard backdrop, and a best friend’s cousin twist? Say less. Devon May has crafted a story full of charm, tension, and moments that’ll make you smile into your Kindle.

If you love ‘he falls first’ energy and pretending that gets a little too real, this one’s for you

I absolutely adored this novel!! I love the fake dating trope 😍😍

I feel as though many people can relate Amira’s character with the need to find herself outside of her parents wishes and expectations. The FMC was written so meaningfully and with so much depth I was rooting for her to discover her self the entire read.

Noah was such a lovable character. His willingness to be whatever Amira needed him to be while putting his own feelings aside made him a great guy. He was such a thoughtful and swoon-worthy MMC.

If you are someone who loves the fake dating trope and wants a story that is both spicy and sweet with honest conversation and tender moments the mark calendars for May 18th.

I enjoyed Noah and Amira’s story. Noah was so down bad for Amira. I live for Amira’s realisation that she was just as drawn to Noah as he was to her all those times and man what a beautiful chemistry 😍😍 This book highlighted the struggles of overbearing parents and the impacts of it. Amira’s character was complex and difficult at times but I’m glad that while it worked out for her and Noah in the end, there was still hints of the scar it left her. Author Devon May has done well curating these characters and making them relatable!

Thank you, Devon May, for gifting me this eARC. I had fun reading it! All opinions of this review are my own.

This is a beautiful story about overcoming obstacles set by others. This book is full of what I call I consider “the little things”. It’s the little things that they do for each other.
The FMC has so much growth from the very beginning of the story to the end and it’s a heartwarming thing to read.
I couldn’t put it down, yet at the same time I wanted to savour every last page of reading it!

Congratulations on finishing your first series Devon! You should be so proud of yourself, Because of Me is Incredible and I cannot wait to share it with my friends finally now that it’s available to the public! 🥰

ARC REVIEW

Because of Me begins with one of my favorite tropes—fake dating—but extends far beyond conventional romantic dynamics, exploring deeper themes like family pressure, guilt, and the struggle to assert one’s identity, even at the risk of clashing with loved ones.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author, and I have to say, I was won over. Her writing style is direct and impactful, yet still manages to convey moments of great tenderness. Personally, I would have preferred to start with the other books in the series to get a fuller picture, but even so, I had no trouble following the events or connecting with the characters.

Amira, the protagonist, is shaped by a rigidly controlled family environment that has her future laid out for her. To reclaim her freedom, she has to rebel and confront the repercussions of her decisions. Relentless expectations define her life, and now, at thirty, she feels caught in a limbo, unable to break free from the path set before her.

This is where Noah enters the scene. Sweet and thoughtful, Noah develops feelings for Amira almost immediately. What makes him unique, however, is his steadfast presence in her life—someone who sees and accepts her entirely, vulnerabilities included. He’s not the type to rely on grand gestures or proclamations; instead, his quiet and consistent support exudes tenderness, winning readers over as they witness his care. His patience and dedication during Amira's most challenging moments make him a truly memorable character. It’s this patience and quiet dedication that make Noah so unforgettable, a character you can’t help but root for. His love for Amira feels deeply authentic—hopelessly endearing in its sincerity. While the intimate, fiery moments between them certainly leave an impression, it’s the quieter, tender exchanges—those late-night conversations and open-hearted admissions—that truly make their connection shine. Noah’s depth and devotion linger long after you close the book, leaving you utterly smitten with this remarkable character.

The chemistry between Amira and Noah works well, though in the beginning, I found it a bit hard to see them as a convincing couple—largely due to Amira herself, as Noah’s affection is evident from the start. Yet as the narrative progresses, their bond gradually deepens into something more romantic. Their intimate moments help build emotional closeness, but just as progress seems within reach, Amira tends to retreat, leaving their connection unresolved. This push-pull dynamic could be frustrating at times—I often wanted Amira to confront her hesitations—but it’s also easy to empathize with the nuances of her emotional journey. While fully capturing her inner turmoil isn’t an easy task, it’s evident that Amira ultimately manages to navigate it, thanks in large part to Noah’s steady encouragement.

As for the secondary characters, Ella—Amira’s cousin—stood out as someone whose potential felt underexplored. Vibrant and optimistic about the future despite sharing the same restrictive family background, Ella immediately drew my interest. It would have been fascinating to see more of their relationship unfold. They could have served as reflections of one another, fostering mutual awareness and growth, but this element remains underdeveloped—likely a result of Amira’s initial tendency to remain emotionally closed off, which softens only as she opens up to those around her.

Another area that could have been better fleshed out is Amira’s dynamic with her parents, especially her father. His eventual acceptance of her choices near the conclusion feels understated, leaving me wishing for more insight into how that reconciliation was achieved.

All in all, Because of Me is a compelling and heartwarming read that balances sweet romance with meaningful introspection. It’s ideal for readers seeking a story that combines longing, emotional depth, and a thoughtful exploration of mental health.

Many thanks to Lovenotes.pr and Devin May for the opportunity to read this eARC. All thoughts shared in this review are entirely my own.

Thanks to Devon May and Love Notes PR for providing me with an ARC. Happy pub day!

This one was not for me, and that’s ok! This book was presented as having some of my favorite tropes, and while it delivered on those the story fell a little flat. There is a possibility that I am missing some context here, as I have not read any of the other books in this series. However I still enjoyed parts of this as a standalone, and I do feel that it can be read as such.

Because of Me follows Amira and Noah, and is told from their alternating points of view, which worked well for this book. Our fake dating trope begins when Amira brings Noah to a family wedding to prevent her traditional father from setting her up against her will. Noah is already head over heels for Amira and agrees to this arrangement, which in the tradition of this trope quickly grows more complicated.

*Spoilers beyond this point*
I did appreciate that the fake dating wasn’t overly drawn out, which requires a high level of cognitive dissonance when you have two grown single adults who have almost no reason to not be actually dating.

I appreciated the bi representation, though I found Noah’s thoughts about it to be annoying. He wasn’t bigoted or wrapped up in some sort of threesome fantasy but his assumptions that Amira must be a lesbian and his jealousy over women bothered me. This and his “description” over his ownership of the winery felt like his only flaws which made him uninteresting to me.

Amira is 30, which always excites me because frankly at nearly 30 myself I don’t really want to read about 20 year olds finding their forever person with half formed frontal lobes. My problem is that Amira didn’t really act 30, and her character arc felt better suited to someone younger. I’m not claiming that you need to have everything figured out by your late 20’s, but it didn’t feel realistic for her to still have some of the confidence issues and parental hang ups that she had at her age.

My qualms with this book lie in the overall character development. Both felt very one dimensional, with Amira having the hang ups you would expect with an overbearing, traditional father and Noah being the overly nice can-do-no-wrong I’ll-take-what-I-can-get guy. Amira does have the character growth of letting some of her parents expectations go and learning to be comfortable in her own skin, but I hated that she only seemed to get to that place because of Noah. We mostly skipped over her forming new thought patterns, yet somehow the book felt a little too long. The characters kept reiterating the same points and by the end I was bored. It felt like this either needed to be longer with way more conversation or a little shorter with less repetition.

I also thought the Christmas stuff was a little odd for a book with a May release date. My best guess is that this fits in with the overall timeline of the series, but it kept taking me out of the story a bit to have details about Christmas decor in May.

The book further lost points for me in the epilogue, as a kid shows up. This is a personal thing, but I like my romance with absolutely zero children. I don’t need a “wedding and a white picket fence” style happy ending, but I can respect that this is what a lot of readers are looking for. It does seem like the other books in the series feature pregnancy/children, so I’ll be sitting those ones out.

Overall this wasn’t a *bad* read and I think it will scratch the right itch for a lot of people, especially those who enjoyed the first couple books in the series.

Between fake dating and forced proximity you have a beautifully built story that becomes relationship!

“I don’t do things by halves Amira…” tells you that right from the get go Noah is ready to truly show her how he feels about her, having fallen in love at first sight Noah shows her how much he cares and loves her!

He is always willing to step back and let Amira be herself, especially as he doesn’t want to impose in her life the way her family has!

The growth in each character as an individual and as a couple is absolutely beautiful and heart warming! Amira is trying to find what she wants most with her overbearing father trying to force her hand in marriage with a man, whilst she is unsure if her life long partner is a he or a she! She becomes the best version of herself with the help of Noah, the book boyfriend of our dreams!

This story is beautifully written and I can’t Recommend Devon may enough! This review was one of two which I’ve been stewing on what to say as the books were just beautiful!

oh this book pulled on my heart and was so good! I was so excited to read this one because the tension throughout the series between these characters was so intense. Because of Me is a contemporary fake dating romance where we follow our FMC Amira as she tries to keep her father off her back while she tries to figure out love for herself and our MMC Noah as he tries to become closer to Amira by helping her while also trying to run a successful winery. We follow through their eyes as a fake dating agreement built on a one sided crush becomes messy, confusing and real

Oh how I loved both Noah and Amira! Such incredible characters with amazing chemistry and strength to fight for what they want! Amira is such an inspiration, throughout her life she was controlled and told who she had to be but throughout the book we watch her grow and find strength to become who SHE wants to be. Noah was also such an amazing character, he showed up and was there for whoever needed him. He cared so much for Amira and watching that connection grow was so cute! These two were so adorable. I’m so happy that they got their happy ever after!

The writing was amazing in this book also! I fell in love with the rest of the series before reading this one so I knew I would eat this up! Devon does such a great job of showcasing her characters and their struggles while also letting us see the growth and the healing in such a real, raw way. The writing had such a way of making you feel every emotion the characters were going through and I couldn’t help but root for these two. Just such an incredible way to tell all the couples stories throughout the series! I loved it and I can’t wait to read more from Devon in the future!

Overall, this was a great read and I really enjoyed it! I would like to thank both Devon May and Love Notes Pr for the incredible ARC and I can’t wait to see what Devon has in store for the future! 🍷🍪☕️

Spice: 🌶🌶🌶

I had the wonderful privilege to arc read Because of Me by @booksbydevonmay and omg I just finished it, and it was amazing.

I loved the characters a lot and absolutely loved the snickering and cheeky banter between Amira and Noah

He definitely falls first in this book, and I absolutely loved it. This book has tropes of he falls first, fake dating, found family, only one bed and banter.

I definitely laughed at the many things during this book, and all I can say is that it was absolutely perfect.

Will Amira and Noah go from faking dating to a real relationship? You will need to get the book and read it.

Just a funny part of the book I'll add to my review, and that is:

"I knew it," I say with a smirk. "My Cupcake has a thing for asses. Or is it just my ass exclusively?

What happens if you take fake dating and go a step further by living together?
Well, you'll need to read Because of Me to find out 😉
Reading this was bittersweet as it's the final book in the series but it was beautifully written and I loved Noah and Amira's characters. Noah is definitely book boyfriend goals with his love at first sight pining over Amira. Amira is struggling with family pressures and wanting to be her own person and the support and encouragement Noah provides for her is everything. Not only that, but their chemistry together 🔥🔥
I loved this story and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next from Devon.

From the very start I have loved Devon Mays Because of Love series. They have the perfect mix of sweet and spicy, with all the emotions and humour.
Because of Me is Noah and Amira’s story, and it’s one I have been waiting for after meeting these two in previous books.

Noah is just the sweetest book boyfriend around, I loved him and his kind heart so much.
I loved Amira too, and how we really went on a journey with her and her self discovery, her feelings were so raw and you really go on that rollercoaster with her through the story.

Read if you like
•fake dating
•only one bed
•friends with benefits
•it’s always been you

I was super excited for Noah and Amiras story. We've seen them skate around each other for 2 other books so I knew it was going to be worth it.
Unfortunately something fell flat.
I didn't really connect with either character. I kept asking myself, why? What is the reason.

Also the ambiguity of Amiras background kinda rubbed me the wrong way. Like yes we get she isn't white, but what is she then?

A swoony and spicy end to Devon May's Because Of Love series. I loved how patient and kind Noah was, never getting frustrated that Amira needed time to figure out what she really wanted. The way he demonstrated his love softly and loudly was one of my fave things about their story. Highly recommend the whole series!

My first read from Devon May, and sadly, it didn’t land for me. The pacing was all over the place dragging in some parts, rushing in others and the story got repetitive fast.

Amira drove me crazy (wanted to punch her more than once), and while Noah was okay, both characters felt immature for being thirty somethings. Their chemistry was flat, and the emotional connection just wasn’t there. Everything felt stiff and underdeveloped.

Maybe I'll try another by this author and see if i enjoy it.

Because of Me is a spicy fake dating romance about taking chances, and fighting for what, and who, you want.

I absolutely adored this novel, such a cosy fake dating, he falls first, only one bed open door romance. I love everything about this, from being Australian based, the familiar Aussie relationship banter and nicknames, and not to mention baking, flowers, wine, friendship, and a cute as cat.

This is the 3rd in Devon’s Because of Love series but is a standalone novel, my first in the series and best you bet I’m going to be rushing out to pick up the others!

Thank you so much to Love Notes PR and Devon May for my ARC copy.

I love series with interconnected characters and stories that take place on similar timelines. Adds another level of real. This can easily be read as a standalone, but it's fun to catch little glimpses of past characters.

Amira is feeling the pressure from her parents to find a husband and "settle down". Along comes Noah, her best friend's cousin, who generously offers to be her fake boyfriend.

Noah started out by playing along. Now he wants to play for keeps.

This book has some of my favourite tropes:
💐 Fake dating
💐 Forced proximity
💐 He falls first
💐 Only One Bed
🐈 Cat dad
💐 Golden retriever x black cat
💐 MMC full of green flags
💐 Dual POV
💐 "It's always been you" vibes

Thank you to Devon for the gifted ARC. Also, I know I've said this before, but I'll say it again ... I love the covers on this series! So many little details 😍

Because of MeDevon May

I loved reading Devon May's new book 'Because Of Me', as I did her previous books. This is the first review I have done (since school anyway) so I hope I can do it justice!

This is Noah & Amira's story - & I was all in! I was confident I thought I knew what the outcome would be (was hoping it would be), & I was good with that. The emotions & emotional feels were all there, I felt them - without feeling wrecked by them - I don't need to feel exhausted after reading!

I loved that the characters got to the point quite early & there was no dragging out the angst of the story line too much, leaving time for them to take their journey (It can be annoying when there's too much to & froing, without any advance in a story). Characters from the other books make subtle appearances, where necessary, providing a lovely sense of familiarity weaving through.

Through the story, life goes on with our characters, there are weddings. other friendships, workplaces (both run their own businesses) & everyday life, which all contribute in different ways to the development of Noah & Amira's story.
Special mention must be made of Amira's cousin Ella, who moves in with Amira when she moves to Melbourne & also to Kitch - Noah's cat he inherited from his Grandmother. Kitch becomes like an unofficial therapy cat - quite a few times Kitch brings a calm & soothing presence to those in the household when things got tough & I feel he needs a special mention :).

Amira has a family who follows traditions, & her father refuses to accept her partners both past & present - he thinks he can choose someone more suitable for her than she can herself, & he tries to. While she questions & is confused about her & Noah's relationship & her feelings, the one thing she is not confused about is her refusal to let her Dad choose a partner for her - not happening Dad! This is how Noah & Amira came to being a 'couple' - a friend helping a friend out.
Amira's uncertainty where love is concerned, is a stark contrast to the calm surety of Noah, Noah never wavers from how he feels about Amira, continually giving her what she needs - a friend, an ally, & time for her to work through the inner defiance, doubts & lack of confidence she has & the eventual realisation of what the cause is of that, plays a big part in her being able to accept & move forward with herself. She is never left to doubt Noah & his intentions, it is her own inner conflict she must try & overcome if she wants to give this a go with Noah - & she really does want to.
While she resigns herself to the fact that her Dad may never come around & understand who she is, & accept who she chooses to love, she stays true to herself. Her Mum is her champion, & I love this - she is (as lots of Mum's are) quietly respectful of her husband & the traditions, but sides with Amira when she visits to talk to her Dad.

And while I haven't mentioned too much about Noah, this is very much his story as well, kind & considerate, he runs a winery - that he inherited from his Grandmother whom he had never met (also inherited Kitch), is working hard & is determined to make it something to be proud of. I feel Noah can be best understood by reading about him.

I highly recommend you read ALL of Devon's books - you won't be disappointed!

Thank you so much @lovenotes.pr & @booksbydevonmay for trusting me with an ARC of Because Of Me.

The story centers on a classic fake dating setup, which we all know never stays fake for long. Amira is trying to keep her very controlling father off her back while she figures out her own path in love and life. Meanwhile, Noah, who runs a winery and has been quietly pining for her, sees an opportunity to get closer and support her through it all. What starts off as a helpful favor and a one-sided crush slowly morphs into something messy, complicated, and beautifully real.

Let’s talk about these two. I adored Amira and Noah so much. Their chemistry? Off the charts. Their dynamic? Absolutely heartwarming. Amira’s journey was particularly powerful. She’s someone who has spent her entire life being told what to do and who to be, and watching her step into her own, slowly but surely, was such an inspiring transformation. She doesn’t become someone new; she finally becomes herself. And then there’s Noah, who is genuinely one of the kindest book boyfriends I’ve read in a while. He’s just there, consistently, showing up for the people he loves without expecting anything in return. The way he cared for Amira was so tender and steady, I honestly smiled through most of their scenes together.

There’s a moment in chapter 12 that really had me screaming internally. Like yes, more of that energy please. The spice in this book is on the milder side, maybe a 3 out of 5, but that scene? Absolute gold. I could’ve taken ten more chapters with that kind of tension and emotional payoff. Also, can I just say how refreshing it is to read about main characters in their 30s who have responsibilities, emotional maturity, and actual life experience? We love a grown-up love story.

Devon May’s writing continues to shine here. She has such a talent for making her characters feel real, messy, and loveable. Every emotional beat hit exactly where it needed to. You could really feel what Amira and Noah were going through, and I rooted for them the whole way through. There’s also something so satisfying about seeing healing and personal growth play out with such authenticity. You’re not just reading a romance; you’re watching people become the best versions of themselves while falling in love.

This was actually my first book from the series, and now I’m kicking myself for not picking it up sooner. Devon May completely pulled me in with Amira and Noah’s story, and now I have to go back and start from the beginning. I’m already planning to read the novella and work my way through every book leading up to Because of Me. If this one had me this hooked, I can only imagine how much I’m going to love seeing the other couples’ stories unfold too. Devon’s writing has this effortless emotional pull that makes you feel connected to the characters right away, and I need more of that in my life.

Huge thanks to Devon May and Love Notes PR for the ARC. I can’t wait to see what’s next because if this book is any indication, we’re in for even more beautifully written, emotionally rich love stories ahead.

4.5/5 🧁🧁🧁🧁

I absolutely adored this book and it's my favourite of Devon's yet!

"You said if your life were a romance novel some guy would come in and pretend to date you and maybe you'd fall in love."
"And you said you couldn't promise the falling in love part."
"I was wrong. I've been in love with you all along."

Noah and Amira enter a fake dating relationship to try and appease her father's pushy, traditional views on marriage, and end up inadvertently living together and sharing a bed. It's all fake, of course. Until it's not...

Their relationship unfurls through dual POV and the way Devon wrote the progression of their feelings (or perhaps obsession in Noah's case) was perfection. I love that several of the chapters had a little crossover moment when they switched POV so we got to see the same scene through the other's eyes.

"So you don't have to pretend-"
"Don't have to pretend what, Cupcake? Nothing about this is fake to me."

Noah is truly down bad for Amira and I am here for it! He was so sweet and swoony and would just truly do anything for her, including getting his own heart broken so she could set the pace and boundaries within the relationship.

The journey Amira went on, in parallel to discovering that perhaps her ideas about romantic and lasting love weren't what she always thought, in regards to her growing confidence of herself and her ideals, and feeling comfortable within her own body, was such an empowering one and I felt really proud of the steps she took.

I just really loved these two together, from the self-discovery to the adorable nickname he had for her, and everything in between. I will always be here for an "it's always been you" moment.
I felt like the spice really worked too, and I loved that body insecurity played into it as well.

"Because I cannot handle this much longer."
"Handle what?"
"Holding myself back. Keeping myself from touching you, showing you how deeply yours I am and always will be."

Thank you for the ARC, Devon!

Let me just say… I loved every single second of this book. Because of Me had me yearning, feeling light and fluffy, and giggling like a teenager with a crush. I devoured it and immediately wanted to go back and reread all my favourite moments.

Because of Me by Devon May
Fake dating, He falls first, open door romance

This is the third book in the series, but can be read as a stand alone. It takes a few chapters to suck you in, but then you can’t put it down.

Amira turned 30, and if she doesn’t have a boyfriend/fiancé by her cousin's wedding, her father will find her a husband. At this acknowledgment, her roommate’s cousin, Noah, willingly volunteers to be her fake boyfriend. Unfortunately, nothing Amira does seems to satisfy her father, even the fake boyfriend.
Before Noah knows it, he’s playing the role of her live-in boyfriend, as Amira continues to fight conforming to her father’s wishes and keeps up with the evolving lie she has told her family. Noah is happy to help the girl he’s been in love with since he first laid eyes on her many years prior. Sleeping in the same bed only leads to lots of spice and second-guessing on Amira’s part. She’s falling for Noah, but is still scared to admit it to Noah and herself. It isn’t until they are apart that Amira realizes how much she misses Noah and that he’s her person.

This book delivered everything: fake dating tension, emotional depth, sizzling chemistry, and moments that genuinely made me feel seen. If you’re craving a romance that’s both soft and spicy, tender and honest, Because of Me is it.

🩷 ARC review 🩷

4.5 / 5

What to expect:
🤍 Fake dating
🤍 Friends(ish) to lovers
🤍 One bed with no pillow wall allowed
🤍 Toxic family
🤍 It’s always been you
🤍 Spiceeeeeee
🤍 One happy ever after worth fighting for

“It’s always been you. From that day Cassidy first moved in here and I saw you watching me. I’ve been obsessed with you. And fake or not, I will gladly be whatever you need, for as long as you need me.”

“If any of this is going be real, none of it can be fake. As long as it is, you’ll never know which parts are.”

What an end to a beautiful debut series! Because of Her will always hold a special place in my heart, but honestly, all four books in this series were amazing! I can’t wait to see what else Devon May has own store for us in the future! 🤩

Straight from the get go, our gorgeous MMC Noah drew me in with his brooding persona and the ‘I want her I think she hates me’ vibes. And then there’s Amira - our strong, “thirty, flirty and very single” FMC. What’s not to love about her. I absolutely loved seeing her walls come down as she starts to accept Noah, grow more confident and accept her love for him.

Because of Me is so beautifully written and it made my heart feel so warm reading it. It was an easy-read and I simply devoured it.

This book make me feel all of the feelings. The highs made me smile and swoon - the love these two characters had for each other, the banter, Noah’s protectiveness and patience, Amira’s wittiness and realness. 😊 The lows made me sad - the expectations placed on Amira, the lack of acceptance from her family, her insecurities and self-doubt. 😢 And the spice… well that just made me blush and melt (hello chapter 12, 16, 20 - just to name a few)! 🔥😮‍💨

It was an emotional rollercoaster, and one I truely didn’t want to stop. The love these two characters had for each other was so genuine. I adore how Noah followed his heart, never gave up and always showed up and reassured Amira.

I have one final thing to say….. Anyone know where I can find a real-life Noah?!?! 🫠😍🥰❤️

Because of Me by Devon May was a really touching and emotional read. I rated it 3.5 stars because while I really enjoyed it, there were still a few moments that didn’t fully hit for me. But overall, it’s a story that stuck with me, especially because of how real the characters felt.

One of the biggest highlights for me was Noah—he is such a green flag! He’s kind, supportive, and actually listens to Amira. I loved how emotionally mature he was throughout the book. Honestly, I wish more fictional guys were like him. He didn’t try to “fix” Amira, but he stood by her, respected her boundaries, and communicated so well. His character was truly amazing and made the romance feel very genuine.

I also really loved Amira’s character development. At the beginning of the book, she was insecure and scared to go against her strict father. But as the story went on, she grew stronger and started standing up for what she wanted. As someone who relates to Amira’s cultural background, her journey really hit home for me. I admire her courage, and I hope I can be that brave one day too.

What made this book even more special was the healthy communication between Amira and Noah. I usually hate when miscommunication is the reason for drama in romance stories, so it was refreshing to see them talk things out honestly. It felt real and mature, and that made their relationship so much stronger.

Overall, Because of Me was a sweet and meaningful story. I wish some parts had been a little more developed, which is why I’m giving it 3.5 stars, but it’s still a book I’d recommend—especially for anyone who loves thoughtful romance and characters that grow into their strength.

Because of Me is the third installment in Devon May’s Because of Love series, delivering a spicy fake dating romance that explores themes of taking chances and fighting for love. This standalone novel introduces readers to Amira and Noah, whose unexpected connection at a wedding leads to a web of lies and a deepening bond.

Amira, seeking to escape her overbearing family's expectations, enlists Noah, her best friend's cousin, to pose as her boyfriend at a wedding. What begins as a simple ruse soon evolves into a genuine relationship, challenging both to confront their feelings and the complexities of their lives.

Amira is portrayed as independent and strong-willed, yet vulnerable beneath her tough exterior. Noah, on the other hand, is determined and hardworking, having inherited a winery from a grandmother he never knew. Their chemistry is palpable, with their interactions shifting from playful banter to heartfelt moments, showcasing their growth as individuals and as a couple

May skillfully blends humor, tension, and emotion, creating a narrative that is both engaging and relatable. The fake dating trope is executed with authenticity, avoiding clichés and delving into the complexities of building trust and intimacy. The pacing is well-balanced, with the romance unfolding naturally amidst personal and external challenges

Because of Me is a compelling addition to the Because of Love series, offering readers a heartfelt and steamy romance that emphasizes the importance of taking risks for love. Devon May continues to captivate her audience with well-developed characters and a narrative that resonates with themes of vulnerability, trust, and the courage to embrace love
