One Path Book One

Rate this book
Hunted by giant primordial beasts, red in tooth and claw, a tribe of cavegirls scratch out a bleak existence in a brutal uncaring world. They cling onto a life where not many make it beyond the first few months, let alone to adulthood. Governed by ancient laws and arcane rituals - the only constants they have - they follow the old ways on pain of death. But One Path, a hunter and warrior, has a plan to change their lives. To free them from the toll the great predators that stalk them charge, and it will overturn everything they know. Sometimes change is scarier than death.

By day I work at award winning design and effects shop, Weta Workshop as a conceptual designer, but at night I go home and wash dishes.
I joke.
My girl friend will tell you as much.

No, I go home and write and draw more.
I mainly photoshop rude pictures of people I know in compromising situations and write offensive comments emanating from speech bubbles on said pictures, but from time to time I write and illustrate a book or two.

I've worked on many big name effects-heavy feature films like King Kong and Narnia, but I'm least ashamed of having been lead designer for District 9.
I joke again! I am very proud of all the films I've worked on. Too proud actually. Haughty even. Smug. They make me feel very important.

10/10 for the dinos

5/10 for the people

4/10 for the story

This is a visual feast, but the little text it provides ends up cheapening the story rather than enhancing.

The language doesn't seem to suit the time period, and there's not really enough to flesh out any of the characters or their motives.

But the dinosaurs are stunning visually and the battles are a lot of fun to take in.

Not quite what I wanted out of this but the art is outstanding.

Fantastic work from one of the King Kong 2005 concept artists

Greg Broadmore’s art remains every bit as wonderful as it was when he was making concept art for the 2005 adaptation of King Kong. I honestly prefer some of the dinosaur designs in this to those in a lot of more “serious” paleoart nowadays. I did think it was a bit curious that all the tribespeople in this world are female, but it appears they don’t reproduce through what we would call natural means. Overall, a great start for this series.

Much stranger and more interesting than a book that is mostly wordless paintings of dinosaurs and nude cave women savagely gutting each other has any right to be.

Been a Broadmore stan from way back. If you like dinosaurs, naked people, and sloshing viscera, this is the book for you!

I should say that despite the kind of ludicrous metal frazettaness of it all, I did actually find some things in this kinda emotionally intense! It's not just a lark! There is genuinely compelling storytelling in this churn of jaws and human forms!

3.5/5

"Turok" meets "Alien" in a prehistoric survival tale with gritty, excellent animation.

Likes

+ Amazing animation
+ Unique setting & premise
+ All the dinosaurs you can handle!
+ A cliffhanger & a few question marks regarding the story....

Dislikes

- Some up & down pacing (YMMV).
- As a character-centric reader, would have liked some characters to invest in besides The Albino (again, YMMV).

Summarily, will definitely be reading the follow up novels!

Holy wow! Incredible. Amazing illustration and off-the wall, original story concept. A tribe of prehistoric women fight for survival with a unique method of reproduction. One Path changes everything, breaking long-held traditions. Endorsed by greats Neill Blomkamp, Dave Gibbons, Richard Taylor and Neal Stephenson. First of a series by Kiwi Greg Broadmore.

Really great graphics. The artist did a good job on the drawings. It did contain a lot of graphic material. If you don’t like nudity, cannibalism, and graphic killings…don’t read this. I liked it and finished it quickly.

The art is amazing, of course, but I can't help but feel that the story and idea are at their core, kind of dumb?
