Um, hi. Yes, I wrote this book, so of course I'm going to love it. But seriously. I love this book.
**clears throat** So I would now like to share some of my favorite lines:
“Well, look at you,” he said, pointing. She followed his finger and looked down but only saw a cream-colored turtleneck over a black wool skirt. “You’re hardworking, sensible, and obviously want to get married,” he continued. “Pretty much the antithesis of every woman I've dated.” “You mean because my IQ is larger than my bra size?” His lips thinned. “I mean because you have my father's respect.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For the first time since she'd known him, Jack actually looked uncomfortable. He cleared his throat a few times before answering. “Between you and me, I didn't get that promotion because the board feels my personal life may need a makeover. Of sorts. My father unfortunately agrees.” “Mm-hmm. Not to take sides, but when your recent breakup starts trending on Twitter, your personal life might need a little reevaluating.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ “Careful,” he chided with a grin. “First you talk marriage and now you're telling me what to eat. You're sounding more and more like a real girlfriend every day. Just remember, this is still our first date, so keep your hands to yourself tonight. I'm not one of those guys.”
I received this ARC from Cameron Yeager at Entangled Publishing in exchange for a honest review.
I absolutely loved this book. It was lighthearted, witty, charming, engaging, and at times had me smirking at the banter between the hero and the heroine.
My Thoughts: I liked how the hero and heroine's relationship developed gradually over time. Both of their feelings and opinions about one another gradually changed during the course of the book. They both were astonished when they finally realized they were in love. I liked how they did not jump into bed right away. Anyone who reads my reviews knows that is a pet peeve for me.
The Hero: The hero is described as a lovable, charming playboy. I liked him from the first to the last page of the book. He never came across as a jerk to me. I felt he had underlying feelings for the heroine and was not able to deal with said feelings so he teased and taunted her. I love when playboys meet the right woman and give up their ways. He was perceptive in that he saw right through the heroine's sleaze of a fiancé. He also was protective and had the heroines best interests at heart. The hero never took undue advantage of the heroine because of their pretend arrangement.
The Heroine: She had a difficult childhood. Her parents was killed in a car crash and so she was raised in numerous foster homes. She eventually learned to close off her heart. She desired above all stability and security in a relationship. Her fiancé gives her that, but nothing else. I felt she had no connection with him and overlooked his faults.
The Story: Sabrina Cassidy(heroine) and her friend Maddie are visiting Madame Butterfly a psychic. Sabrina and her fiancé David(a doctor) have recently agreed to a temporary break. David supposedly needs to figure some things out. The psychic says she sees a man in a white coat so Sabrina assumes that means she and David will get back together someday. After the psychic reading, Sabrina and Maddie head to a local bar and while they are there they see David with another woman. Sabrina makes excuses for him while her friend tells her she should date someone else. Maddie picks up a magazine and there is an article with the title "New England's Most Eligible Bachelors". She points out Jack Brenner. Sabrina tells her he is a playboy and her boss's son. She reiterates that she can't stand him.
Jack Brenner(hero) has transferred back to Boston. Jack thinks his father is going to promote him to the National Sales Manager position that recently opened up. Jack meets with his father and is disappointed when his father tells him that is not the reason he was transferred. His father says he needs to mature and settle down. Some in the company are concerned that his reputation will harm the company. It is then that Jack realizes that he needs to mend his ways and change people's opinions of him.
When Sabrina arrives at work, she is informed that now she will be working with Jack. Not exactly what she wants, but she has no choice in the matter. Later that same day, she goes to get coffee and sees David with the same woman from the bar. Jack comes upon her and comforts her. She is a little perplexed by his behavior. Jack tells her he has a solution to her problem. Jack need a fake girlfriend and Sabrina needs someone to make David jealous. On the surface, it seems like a win-win situation for both of them. They both learn that fate has other plans.
The rest of the book is a gradual evolution of their relationship leading to a HEA.
Overall, I would recommend this contemporary romance to anyone who loves when a hero is brought to his knees by the heroine.
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW THIS STORY WAS SHORT, SUPER SWEET N CUTE OMG ♥♥♥♥
I personally love these kind of stories coz one of my fav books has a similar plot but still!!!!
I was a lil bit unsatisfied at the ending tho, i mean it just ended like that??? I mean i think a have a pretty good idea about what happens next but stiilllll i needed moooreee!
Sabrina is on a temporary break from her fiancé David, who is trying to figure out if he really wants to marry her. While I would have run the other way, Sabrina decides to wait patiently for him to make up his mind. Meanwhile her sexy co-worker Jack is in need of an image make-over in order to get a promotion. Jake makes a deal with Sabrina, he'll pose as her fake boyfriend to make David jealous and she'll pose as his fake girlfriend to help him look more respectable and not such a ladies man. Win-win.
Jake and Sabrina had great chemistry. I liked how they brought out the best in each other, even underneath all their banter they had respect for each other. They were fun to watch and while it's obvious how things are going to play out it was still a lot of fun to be along for the ride.
Anyway, I really enjoyed this one. It was a lot of fun and just a quick lighthearted read.
Content Romance: Clean, kissing and mild innuendo Language: Mild
I thought this one was darling! When I was young, I loved to watch Looney Tunes. One of my favorites characters was Pepe Le Pew, the French skunk. I loved how he would chase that poor cat around, trying to force her to love him. He was so suave and persistent and she was so wide-eyed and innocent. In some strange way, this book reminded me of those characters.
Jack is a very experienced man. He's the type of man who dates the flavor of the week--a different girl at every turn. He's got to settle down and change his image in order to get the promotion he's after. My first impression wasn't very favorable of Jack...but things aren't always what they seem to be. I thought Jack was very determined, yet he had a tender side that I loved watching come out. He chased and Sabrina kept trying to run...right back into the arms of her ex-fiance.
Sabrina's ex-fiance still wants her around, but he's trying to decide if she's really what he wants. The plan Jack comes up with will allow her to make this guy feel jealous--to see if he truly does want to come back to her. Sabrina is hesitant and tries to outrun Jack's charms. She's very "by the book" about life and is very orderly. Everything has a plan and a place in her life, until Jack starts to turn things upside down.
I loved the chemistry between the two of them. I loved watching them evolve and grow and come to know what they really wanted in life.
Content: a few expletives; no violence; mild innuendo and kissing. Clean for an older reader.
Funtasmic! The characters were great! And I really enjoyed the unique plot with the superstitions. Poor Sabrina is hung-up on the fiancé (or ex fiancé) and ultimately gets help to win him back from the last person she wants: Jack Brenner, her boss's son. The interactions between Jack and Sabrina were fun and highly charged. So glad I got a sneak peak at this book before it was released!
I've been on a chick-lit kick lately, and this is a fun one!
Sabrina Cassidy is sure that stable, family-oriented, handsome and kind David is her destiny. He was her fiance until he decided he needed a temporary break. Her parents died when she was young and she was raised in different foster homes - never feeling like she belonged. So she really craves a family of her own, and is willing to do just about anything to get her fiance back.
Jack Brenner is passionate about his family and his father's company, Brenner Capital Investments. So when his dad tells him he can't have the promotion to National Sales Manger until he shows the stockholders that he can maintain a serious relationship, he decides to do whatever it takes to show them.
Sabrina thinks Jack is heartless and arrogant; Jack thinks Sabrina is too high strung and always thinks she's right... But he can help her get her fiance back and she can help him get the promotion. And now they're partners at work so they may as well get along anyway!
I loved what happens when Jack opens his heart and Sabrina sees him for who he really is. Sabrina learns that it's more important to listen to your heart than to superstitions... and when she is with him and his family she discovers what family really is! jack and Sabrina are fun together!
I would classify this steamy clean... It is clean, but not for anyone uncomfortable with innuendo (and a few passionate kisses) and swearing.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
A good book to read when you're in the mood for a book that's short, cute and fun to read. But there's nothing really unique in the plot. I've seen many books with fake-to-real relationships like this on Wattpad alone.
This book gets five swoonworthy stars from me. I haven't read anything by Jennifer Shirk before, but that's about to change because if her previous offerings are half as good as this, I'll be a happy woman. Sweet light romance is combined with humour and touching heartfelt moments making Fiancé by Fate a perfect read.
Sabrina Cassidy's Fiancé has just broken off their engagement. No reason, just wants a bit of space i.e he is a douchebag. She has faith he's still the one and after visiting a crazy psychic, she's convinced it's all part of her path to happiness. Yeah. Right-o. Jack Brenner is her boss' workaholic son with a playboy reputation. He's also exceptionally sexy, witty, kind and charming. She sees him as a self-centred arrogant player and he sees her as Miss Perfect, but when thrown together at work they realise that a faux-mance could be beneficial to them both...
What can I say, I loved them and their journey. Their chemistry burns throughout and their banter, snark and sniping was full of wit, humour and frustration. And Jack, oh he was just divine; honestly every time the man went in for the kiss, my stomach flipped. This rarely happens with a kiss, yes I swoon and sigh, but flips tend to be reserved for more intimate activities. Of which there are none - probably a good thing or lord knows what would've occurred.
Fiancé by Fate is another excellent addition to the Bliss line (of which I have read many), it's a book I will certainly read again and if a sweet easy-read romance that will make you smile and sigh is what you're after, this is all that and more.
I received a copy of this courtesy of Entangled Publishing for an honest and unbiased opinion.
What a fun story! I fell in love with the characters from the very first pages with the witty banter between Sabrina and her best friend Maddie. Sabrina is hardworking, loyal and superstitious. She believes that fate will eventually bring her and her ex-fiancé back together after he breaks off their engagement and wants to take a hiatus from their relationship. During a weak and crushing moment, Jack walks into her life and proposes a plan that will help both of them reach their goals and get their lives back on track. Jack is cocky, too handsome for his own good and has a reputation that needs a makeover to help him convince the board that he is the right man for a promotion. When Sabrina accepts the proposal to be his fake girlfriend, the sparks began to fly.
The chemistry in their relationship is explosive and the attraction brings on unexpected feelings and confusion for both of them. The wit and humor in their exchanges kept me grinning throughout the book. I adored the changes in Jack and felt his frustration in breaking through Sabrina’s crazy belief in fate and superstitions. This is a wonderfully sweet and romantic story filled with characters with wit and spunk.
Content: Clean, mild swearing

I fell in love with Fiance by Fate! It was fun, flirty, and full of witty banter. Sabrina decides to patiently wait for her ex-fiance who just needs some 'time' to make sure he is ready for marriage. Now me, I would run the other direction if my fiance had already proposed and then decided he needed more time to be ready! Really? Anyway, Sabrina is convinced they are so right for each other but she continues to see him with this other woman. Enter the annoyingly-drop-dead-gorgeous and conveniently single Jack. Convenience and a pay-off for both brings the two into a fake relationship. This is where the fireworks begin! Bring on the swoon worthy kisses and the heart pounding love connection! If only the two can wake up and realize what they have together! I loved the run-ins with Sabrina's ex, the over protectiveness of Jack and the chemistry was sizzling hot! If you enjoy a light-hearted romance with laughter, this is the book for you! It kept me page-turning to the very end! A wonderfully well written book that I will read again and again!
Rating: Clean, mild sexual innuendos; language is mild

I really enjoyed this funny and romantic romance! Sabrina's superstitions lead her to believe her finance (who just broke up with her) is THE one and that they are meant to be together. The problem is how to convince him that. Enter one sexy and witty Jack Brenner from her office workplace. He just so happens to need to change his reputation of a playboy and who better than little Miss Perfect Sabrina to help him. They end up in an agreement to help each other win their own goals, but end up with something even better in the end. Laugh-out-loud parts, mild swearing but otherwise clean.
Sabrina has just been told by her fiance that he wants some space. She goes with her friend to a fortune teller, desperate for some direction in her life. She's assured that they will get back together so she determines that she'll do whatever she can to get back together with David. Even agree to pretend to date her work enemy, Jake, the resident playboy. Jack needs to look more settled down to his dad, the CEO of the company to obtain a promotion, so wants good-girl Sabrina to be on his arm. Little does Sabrina realise how quickly her hate for Jack will soon turn to love and little does Jack realise how high his propensity for love actually is. The sparks fly and I love the sparring dialogue between Jack and Sabrina.
This is a beautiful take on the fake engagement trope. The story was gripping, flowed fast and kept me reading when I should have been working.
The characters were lovely - I love the opposites attract scenario, although also, the character arc of the hero was deep and touching. He was gorgeous and very alpha yet not in a hard alpha kind of way - just the right touch of alpha, tease and kindness. I love a man who can tease.
Although we know it will be a happy ending in the end as category romances are, I enjoyed the twists and turns that kept me on my seat to get there.
Jennifer is still one of my favourite romance writers.
Fiancé by Fate is a must read by Jennifer Shirk. Sabrina Cassidy believes she met her fiance by fate. When he wants to take a break she feel fate will bring them back together. Fate doesn't seem to be on her side. Jack Brenner is trying to show is father he ready to start working on his future as head of the family business. Jack's father tells him he needs to turn things around in his life before he will get him prepared to take over the family business.
This was story of two people who are looking for different things in life needing each others help to find it. The story had me swooning.
I love Sabrina. In the story you can't help for Sabrina to find happiness. At first look you might not like Jack but he truly a great man at heart. I loved watching this character as they realize what they try want.
I had a hard time putting this book down. I found the story to be well written. As read I couldn't wait to see what would happen next.
What a cute story, I loved Jack and Sabrina: She looked back up, willing her eyes on his and not his body. "Uh, Jack, where exactly did you sleep last night?" A lazy grin swept over his rugged face. "With you." Jack he has some damn fine smooth moves, "he chuckled, finding her reaction to being touched by him particularly interesting. "I'm hardly going to take advantage of you in broad daylight in the middle of work. Unless you want me to, of course." Also they tend to find themselves in compromising positions, "Jack lifted his head and let out a swift curse. Sabrina's cheeks ignited as she re-tucked her blouse. His sister laughed, but covered her mouth too late. "I know what you guys were doing was G-rated, for now...but I'd like to keep it that way with the kids around." I really do enjoy stories like this, it was a great fun read.
I got an early reader copy of this book & said I'd give an honest review. I really loved this book.
The characters were well rounded, had real foibles like all of us and best of all, made me wish I knew them in real life.
Sabrina and Jack make a fun couple even though it's supposed to be a fake relationship. Sabrina and David, not so much. I didn't care for David, but that's not a bad thing, he isn't supposed to be the greatest guy ever. Jack's dad was great!
If you want a fun read, something that will make you smile and laugh out loud in places (which I did), then read this book. I've already recommended it to several people.
It was fun to read and their witty banter always made me smile. I read the whole thing in practically one day and had a really hard time waiting to post my review (so it'd be after the release date-some sites don't let you review something that isn't out). Definitely one I'd recommend! I'm planning on picking up more of her books now.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Very fun story that kept me totally entertained. They were just suppose to pretend to be a couple so he could get ahead at his job and she could make her ex jealous. You will want to read this one to see how things could get turned around! Highly recommended read.
I really enjoyed this book! It is a feel good story...the characters are honest and truly endearing. I fell in love with Jack and in all honesty...I loved his father! Such a fun storyline! I only wanted her to figure out sooner what a jerk David was! Totally sucked me in! Enjoy!
Content: mild language, one of my blog reviewers described it as "steamy clean" which I thought was a perfect description. Lots of innuendo and kissing but nothing more happens.
I think this book was supposed to be cute, but to me any book that evokes feelings of pity for the heroine aren't that great IMO. I am all for clueless, adorable heroine, but this one just seemed deluded and kind of sad. The heroine was a product of the foster care system and wants a family bad. So when her fiancee who she has been with for 3 years asks for a break, she is happy to but still builds air castles of their future. She is deluded, and thinks they are fated, even when he seems to be out with someone else, ignores her. All of this makes her look like an insecure, spineless ninny. The hero is of course a playboy who suddenly in the end is love with her. But how and why? Overall when a book makes a heroine a pitiable creature, I cannot enjoy it.
I would have to agree with the author that I loved this book. So, I must really calm down. Or I’ll start screaming from this intense passion I’m feeling from reading this. Or start popping the question to the book’s cover, pretending I’m the girl there being held by Jack. This book is really, very, loveable. Their fake relationship is a twist of fate. Sabrina Cassidy believes in fate. So when her fiancé breaks off their engagement, she’s convinced they’ll get back together eventually. But fate was not on her side when it brought Jack Brenner into her life—and work. Frustrating, gorgeous, and cocky, Jack has an offer that Sabrina can’t refuse. Not if it means getting the life she’s always imagined. Despite being one of the town’s most eligible bachelors, Jack has a reputation that’s working against him. He has to convince his father—and his company’s board—that he’s ready to settle down if he wants a promotion. But convincing Sabrina to be his fake girlfriend turns out to be the easiest part. What he didn’t count on was their intense attraction and how easily their lie would escalate. Sabrina’s still hung up on her ex, and Jack will never settle down. But fate has other ideas… So, starting with the characters. Jack is REALLY sexy. And that’s probably the understatement of the year. I love Jack. He’s just so funny and so handsome and so sexy. And I guess that’s what everybody wants from their guy. Oh, and he’s family-oriented. But sometimes, he can be stupid. Maybe that’s what I hate about Jack. But then again, without it, the story would never flow this smoothly. Of all the characters in the book, he’s my favourite. He’s just terrifically perfect and awesome. And his dark past just adds to his sexiness. Oh, and, of course, he’s such a romantic. It’s rare to find guys like him in real life, so I’m really glad he was born, even if in a book. Then there’s Brie! Brie is just awesome and bad-ass. But if Jack was an idiot, she an even BIGGER idiot than him. I wanted to go inside my laptop and shake her until she realizes what’s really in front of her, until she learns that not everything goes as planned. But she’s adorable. It’s adorable just how much she’d do for her dreams. And she’s so funny! Especially when she’s drunk. That was my favourite part of the story, well, aside from the ending. Now I won’t be a spoiler and say a lot. Moving on to David. Can we pass him? Hahahaha. I like boys with fair hair and hazel eyes. But because of David, I started hating that combination. Maybe it’s because I’m being biased and looking through Jack’s eyes? Even so, I found him detestable. But he’s needed in the story and without him, there would be no story like this at all, right? But still. I hated him. That’s it. Period. I loved the whole cast of this story (except for David, of course). I finished this in one day and wondered why I didn’t start reading it right when I got it. It was a page-turner. Jack’s dad is just plainly adorable. I love his reactions and his sneaky, little tricks. (And, of course, I’m very thankful he brought Jack to life, even if it was just in a book). The story flows smoothly. The humour never lets up. In every page, there’s something to laugh about, and that’s what I really love about it. Then there are the romantic quotes from Jack, like: “I have to go propose to my fiancée.” (My favourite line in the story!) There are also the, ahem, romantic and passionate scenes to watch out for. They’re quite passionate, indeed. Hahahha. The chemistry between Brie and Jack was undeniable right from the start and their retorts to each other keep things interesting. The only thing I can say that probably made me disappointed about this (besides David) is that I found it a little short. Maybe it’s because I’m used to longer reads. Still, it was a worthwhile read! Perhaps I just wanted to read more from Sabrina and Jack’s story. I loved this a lot! I’m not a big fan of romance but this just changed my mind. For that, I’ll give it five stars!
Oh my goodness, I LOVED this book. Seriously, just so adorable I can't even. LOVED Sabrina and Jack's story so hard.
Okay, full review time. This story is about Sabrina and Jack. Sabrina is on a "break" with her fiance and is desperate to have him back. After all, fate told her that they're meant to be together. Enter Jack, bachelor oh so hot and in need of a makeover. His dad, and board of directors, thinks that he needs to settle down, even though Jack doesn't believe in marriage. So he does the next best thing, he convinces Sabrina to be his fake girlfriend. After all, she's the perfect example of the kind of girl his dad wants to see him with and she's ready to have her fiance back. I don't know if here comes trouble or let the fun begin is the best way to describe where it goes from there.
I loved everything about this book. It was such a cute, fun read, full of emotion and adorableness. I loved Sabrina's character, especially when she was around Jack. Those two really can't stand each other, which makes it that much more fun to watch them interact. And I love how Jack brings out a side of Sabrina that's strong and confident. Something her jerk of a fiance doesn't see her as and that's reason number one out a billion why her fiance is a jerk. Ha. Anyway, Jack. Let's talk about Jack. I have a serious love for guys who's whole outlook on life changes when the right girl walks into their lives. He's a great guy as it is, but Sabrina brings out those protective qualities right to the top and it's so adorable to watch. I just loved these two together and so glad I got to read their story. Jennifer has a way of crafting a believable and lovable story, full of tension and misunderstandings and discovering what you really want in life. And just how fun it is when you take fate into your own hands. This book is now out and you should get it and read it! :-D
I thought this book was adorable and fun. The wit and tension was great and I couldn't get enough of Jack. At first, I didn't think I was going to like Sabrina at all...because who is told by their fiancé they need a break to figure out if they're right for each other...and not only is she waiting around for him, but she's actually formulating a plan to hurry along the process to get him back!! I would have kicked him to the curb so fast his poor confused head would be spinning. BUT...then I realized...I grew up in a stable home where I never knew a day when I wasn't loved, never felt like I didn't have a place to belong, or a family to call my own. So all that to say, although I couldn't relate to how she felt, it helped me try to understand why she was holding onto the hope of David so tightly. Anyway, Jack was awesome. I loved him. And I loved the love/hate relationship between the two of them. These are my favorite types of stories...where they start out hating each other but there's a healthy dose of attraction and tension and they end up falling in love. And I also really like fake relationship stories--because it easily fosters those feelings and allows them to grow, even though they start out pretending them. Overall, a light, fun read that was much needed after an extremely emotionally draining book I had just read. Can't wait for more from Ms. Shirk!
I found this to be a really cute, enjoyable quick read. Sabrina and Jack had really good banter and chemistry, it definitely made it easy to root for them and hope they got their happy ending. Both of them were really well written characters and it was refreshing that this wasn't a love at first sight and that their feelings developed over a few months, and that we actually got to see their feels change on page and not just told they changed.
The only issue I had is something that is all too common in contemporary romance (and I'll touch more on in it's own blog post) is that the main characters both had tragic back stories making it hard for them to find love. It's an overused trope, in my opinion, and I found myself rolling my eyes when I read about Sabrina and Jack's.
Overall, this is a really good book. If you're looking for a lighthearted romance with witty banter then you should definitely read this one.
3 ½ stars. The first half was really good. The last third or so was common and predictable.
There is the big-misunderstanding-break-up because they don’t tell each other how they feel. That conflict is so overused in romance. I wish the author did something different. But it was a happy ending and still worth reading.
My favorite romances have a couple starting out not liking each other, which is what this is about. I enjoyed the arguing and insults. Then it was fun to see them slowly change their minds. That was the best part. There is kissing but absolutely no sex in this book.

I'm a sucker for sweet novels about fake relationships since, well, you know how the book almost always ends. But this was a refreshing and fun read. The content was clean except for a few mild swear words (nothing more than what you hear on TV nowadays) and no sex scenes. Just steamy kissing scenes that make for a great romance novel. I always enjoyed the dialogue between the two main characters. They seem to have just right chemistry whether they are sparring verbally or locked in one another's arms. The psychic at the beginning was a little far fetched, but that's just my opinion. I would have just stuck horoscopes (again...just my opinion!). Definitely a good clean entertaining read.
I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review. Thanks!
This is a great sweet romance that I didn't want to put down. It's fun and light and the banter made me laugh out loud. I’ve got to say that I normally wouldn’t pick up a book about a woman who visits a fortune-teller to find out whether her on-hold engagement will be on again, but I was impressed by how the author mirrored readers’ differing perspectives with those of various characters. I love how the attraction snuck up on the hero, and how believably the romance evolved between these two seemingly incompatible people. I love it when authors create living, breathing characters that make my emotions ride the same emotional rollercoaster they’re on. Jennifer's done a superb job!
