Devil's Bend #2

Vanishing Dreams

Rate this book
Dalton Calhoun hadn’t always planned on a life up on the big stage, beneath the bright lights, but that was where he found himself. A second chance of sorts. An opportunity that had come along after his real dreams vanished when he was eighteen years old. Although country music was more than he could’ve expected, he’d never dismissed the notion that there was still something missing.

When Dalton followed his buddy Cooper Krenshaw to Devil’s Bend, Texas, it didn’t take long before Dalton realized just what that was. But just because he has topped the country music charts, and made his fair share of women swoon, doesn’t mean that everything comes easy to him. And when he sets his sights on the black-haired, gray-eyed waitress at The Rusty Nail, Dalton realizes he might just have to work for what he wants.

Katie Clarren’s life has been a series of unfortunate events, starting from the time her mother left on her eighteenth birthday. Not exactly how she had planned to spend one of the major turning points in her young life. Nor had she planned to spend the next five years dealing with the fallout. Somewhere along the way, Katie adapted, doing exactly what she needed to do in order to survive. But Katie has secrets that even her closest friends don’t know. Secrets she has worked hard to protect.

Although she longs for handsome, charming, country music sensation, Dalton Calhoun, she knows that anything that starts between them can’t last. Too bad her heart doesn’t seem to be on the same page. Katie gives in to her love for Dalton, needing that human connection that has been missing for so long. But when it comes time to make the hard decisions, Katie forces herself to walk away from him. To protect her secrets, and him. The last thing she wants to do is hurt Dalton, no matter how much pain she has to endure in the process. She loves him.

Can the two of them overcome the secrets and lies? Can they look to the future and stop living in the past? Or will they keep dwelling on the dreams that vanished, not seeing what is right in front of them? Each other.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Nicole Edwards spends her days stringing words together to make complete sentences. Sometimes not. What I liked best about this audiobook were the narration and Lexi.

Don’t get me wrong I quite enjoyed the story; I just wasn’t a fan of the character well at least not until the end.

Dalton for me was too arrogant; he never gave Katie a chance to open her mouth. It's not like he had any reason to judge.
And Katie couldn’t pull up her big girl panties and speak or yell out. I shake my head.

I am all for people doing what they have to do to survive, so I was a little ticked when Katie acted ashamed of her profession. She should be proud, she was able to support not only her but her sister for a good long time. Sure she doesn’t have to like it sure but I just got the impression she was ashamed and she didn’t have any reason to be.

Overall, I loved when Dalton and Katie meet, the steam that comes off of them, you know it’s going to be a good pairing. And once they got their heads out of their butts it ended up perfect.

I loved how Dalton took to Lexi, and vise versa and I loved that Katie finally lets Dalton in and showed him why she was hiding.

Lexi is the cutest and I loved her character.

Again the narration was awesome; it’s probably the best part of the book for me. Le Petite Mort brought Dalton to life and gave him a voice and might I say a very sexy one at that. All deep and rumbly it was perfect for Dalton.
Ruby Rivers I liked most of her female voices, I sometimes feel like she didn’t need to give every female a new voice because it did get to be hard to follow along. But I liked her Katie voice and her Lexi voice the best.

Totally recommend especially if you’re a Nicole Edwards fan. :)

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

I can’t quite believe that it’s been a year since Nicole published Chasing Dreams, the first book in the Devil’s Bend series but it has and yet the characters are still vividly alive in my imagination and I can recall itching to read Katie and Dalton’s story and here they are, at long last. It’s not necessary to have reading Chasing Dreams – it provides some good background but Vanishing Dreams works perfectly well as a standalone.

I think most people think of Nicole Edwards as an erotic romance author but this Devil’s Bend series is far more straight up contemporary – there’s still some juicy bedroom action (and car action and hayloft action) but it’s a lot less heavy on the eroticism than her Club Destiny and Alluring Indulgence series.

I guess, as the title implies, Vanishing Dreams is very much about two people whose lives have taken very different paths then they originally set out to take through no fault of their own. Dalton is a very successful country music singer but that wasn’t his original dream and Katie, well let’s just say that Katie is keeping secrets and those secrets are also definitely not what she set out to do! Dalton falls for Katie and, of course, the skeletons in her closet force her to distance herself from him even though she is falling in love and pretty sure the feeling is reciprocated and I think it’s fair to say that after their first few very happy encounters, they spend most of the novel estranged and deeply unhappy. It’s an angsty little affair and I was desperate for Katie to just open up and talk to Dalton – he would have understood if she’d explained it all. Probably wouldn’t understand if he found out second hand from a paparazzi! Uh Oh!! There may be trouble ahead!

This is a very enjoyable and fascinating love story that shows two people learning to accept each other for who and what they are. It’s definitely a sweet romance with some pretty erotic sex, but what makes it so special is that the sex and everything else is presented within the context of its characters learning to accept the other one with all their baggage, their lost hopes and dreams and their current aspirations. It’s about belief in one another, acceptance and emotional growth. Oh and playing Russian Roulette with contraception!

The whole story is given time to follow the central characters over several months, watching as they change and grow and deal with the hurdles that life throws at them. The gentle pacing does wonders for us as readers as, by the end of the book, we know this couple well enough to care about their decisions and really root for them to find an understanding and an ultimately happy ending. It’s actually very perceptive about human behaviour and emotions.

Thoroughly enjoyable read with a few surprises with the secondary characters that I didn’t expect. Jack is up next, I believe, and I can’t wait.

Vanishing Dreams is easily read stand alone it is the story of Dalton Calhoun the best friend of Cooper Krenshaw who the reader meets in Chasing Dreams (If you have not read Chasing Dreams I recommend it).

Anyway back to Dalton, it is made clear to the read from almost the first page that Dalton is smitten with Katie Clarren. Katie is a waitress in the local bar, the Rusty Nail. It is also clear to the reader fairly early on the Katie is hiding something. The heat between Katie and Dalton may light up your kindle as the physical attraction these two share is undeniable.

The reader is pulled into the town of Devil’s Bend as this cast builds new life. Shh… this books provides the reader with glimpse of Braydon Walker; yes I was happy to see him and yes I was sad to see him so lost, I am very curious to see how this all ties into Braydon when the next Alluring Indulgence book releases but I digress. As the reader feels the connecting deepening between Dalton and Katie it comes clear that she going to pull away why the reader is not privy to as first.

The unfolding of her secret allows the reader to understand Katie’s why though it still broke my heart for her. I will not be sharing any of the secrets as I think it is best the reader experiences them as written.

Ms Edwards brings the reader more characters to love in this one. I loved Lexi, the use of this secondary character moved the story forward, touched my heart and in the end helped prove happy is about making it work! (no I am not telling you who she is as I said there are a many thing in this book best left for the reader to discover).

I loved the end of this book the final about one-third of this book was so well done. I truly loved Dalton and the how this all comes together was a perfect happy for these two.
Katie who had so much to deal with, a past that one wouldn’t wish on any teenage had a happy that was more than she dreams.

I want end again by saying I am so excited for Jack’s story, I truly hope he is next as this big quiet strong man needs his happy!

I want to get one thing straight right now....Nicole Edwards is my favorite author....OF ALL TIME!!!!....but for some reason, I just cant connect with the Devil's Bend characters. I just don't feel it. I let the first book slide because I thought....ok...im just coming, no pun intended ;-, off of reading Alluring Indulgence and Club Destiny, and those are some hard books to follow...but then reading the second book of Devil's Bend, I still was left feeling....well just not fulfilled. Don't get me wrong...im going to keep reading the series because I will support any book that Nicole writes...but ugh....im just not satisfied.

I am a huge Nicole Edwards fan. However, I was slightly disappointed in this story. there was something lacking. I never felt a great connection between Dalton and Katie. Their story felt rushed in some areas and to detailed in others that didn't need to be. This wont stop me from continuing this series...love me the studly cowboys.

Katie Clarren is no stranger to vanishing dreams. For the past five years, it’s been about survival, dashing any hopes of living life differently or for herself. It’s a lonely life, but it’s safer for everyone involved if she keeps herself at a distance because she’ll never let anyone close enough to know the real her. All they’ll ever see is the façade of the good girl; no one can know her secrets or see the severely tarnished woman beneath the mask because the risk is too great and the disapproval is too much for her to handle with everything else going on in her life. But at a moment of weakness and a need to have something for herself, she begins a relationship with Dalton Calhoun, country music star, and regardless of how hard she tries to fight her feelings for Dalton, his persistence and her heart wear her down. But love isn’t easy when you can’t be completely open and honest with the man you love, so Katie makes the only choice she thinks she has to protect both him and herself, and she sets him free, sending both her life and Dalton’s spiraling downward with no way to get out of the darkness.

Dalton’s life has unfolded much differently than Katie’s, and while he’s had to give up some of his dreams, he found new ones and worked hard to achieve them. He’s at the top of his game in the music industry, and he sees Katie as the perfect woman to help him realize his other dreams – ones he never really had until Katie entered his life. He knows she’s holding back and keeping him at arm’s length, but that doesn’t deter him from pursuing her and claiming her as his. Dalton finally feels like everything is coming together for him – he’s found a new family in Devil’s Bend, a passion besides music, and a woman who makes him feel alive and renewed, but when Katie up and decides that their relationship is over with not so much as an explanation and then soon after, he learns part of Katie’s secret, he walks away, feeling he’s better off without her and her lies and doing exactly what Katie feared he’d do if she allowed him in, shunning her without even an asking for an explanation.

For both Katie and Dalton, the dream of being a couple vanished quickly and neither fought to keep it alive despite how much they felt for each other. But even though dreams end, new ones can be formed and realized as long as those involved are willing to put their hearts on the line and fight for what they want. Sometimes people need to stop watching their dreams fade away and grab a hold of them, but it’s up to Katie and Dalton if they’ll have the strength to do so, or if they’ll let their dream of being together fade away without looking back.

I absolutely loved Vanishing Dreams. Katie is a fantastic heroine, and Nicole Edwards clearly develops her character so readers understand why she makes the choices she does throughout the story. Her life hasn’t been easy, but she does what she has to do to endure, protect, and survive. Her burdens are ones that weigh heavily on her, and she refuses to put them on anyone else, which shows the type of person she is despite the secrets she keeps. There were times that I just wanted Katie to be honest with Dalton and tell him the truth, but I also understood why she didn’t and why she cut ties with Dalton. She definitely wasn’t being vindictive, and she didn’t make the decision on a whim; she felt it was the best solution for all those involved, and it nearly destroyed her in the process. I also can’t fault Dalton for reacting the way he did. Getting information secondhand makes the news even harder to take, especially Katie’s secret. I love that Nicole Edwards didn’t make it easy on Katie and Dalton in getting back together. With everything that occurred, it couldn’t be instantaneous, and if they weren’t willing to fight then the love they had didn’t mean what they thought it did. Several months transpire in the book, and there’s a lot to work through, both separately and together, before even the possibility of being a couple can occur. I appreciate the fact that nothing felt rushed in Katie and Dalton’s story, and while I wanted everything to work out quickly, realistically, it couldn’t, and Edwards hold true to that concept throughout the entire text.

I’m a huge Nicole Edwards’ fan and one reason for that is because she’s such a versatile writer. She can tackle any type of topic/storyline and give readers a text that has both depth and meaning. She’s truly a gifted writer and I’m so glad she shares that gift with her readers.

I loved the characters and the story premise but sadly it was too repetitive and overly wordy to fully enjoy and I found myself skipping over chunks of text towards the end.

As always with Nicole Edwards, the sex scenes are well written and emotive but even they couldn't save the story for me unfortunately.

Dalton Calhoun is a delightful character, gorgeous and kindhearted and he's set his eyes on Katie Clarren after ending up in Devil's Bend after following Cooper Krenshaw there. Katie is as attracted to Dalton and he is to her but she has a secret, or two, that no-one knows and she's keen to keep it that way.

After realising that her attraction to Dalton is doomed, Katie decides to end her relationship with him, before it's too late and her heart becomes irrevocably damaged, but will she succeed or is the gravitational pull to Dalton just too strong?

This story had me flummoxed, in part it didn't flow and then it contradicted itself. I was a bit frustrated with the characters. One minute they didn't want to know each other then they were back in each other's arms with no build-up or preamble. Talk about a juxtaposition, I found myself wondering if I'd missed something and I kept re-reading the last few pages to try and figure out the storyline!

Not one of Nicole Edward's best books, or series, but her CD & AI books are still amazing and a series that I enjoy re-reading.

5 Sizzling Stars!

I loved this book! I am a HUGE fan of this author. I have read everything she has written to date, and she ranks right up there in the top five authors for me. And let me tell you, this series does not disappoint. I love that is it more contemporary romance that her other more popular series but still with her signature steam (maybe just not as kinky!).

This is Dalton and Katie's story. Dalton has lived the playboy lifestyle and is ready for a change. And he knows who he wants... Katie, the girl he can't get out of his mind and the woman of his dreams, if he could only make her see that. But Katie is distant for a reason... she has secrets... BIG ones that could destroy so she closes herself off. While she wants Dalton, she knows she has to protect herself and him. But what Dalton wants, Dalton gets and pursues relentlessly. But when her secrets start to unravel, will Dalton stay by her side or will it be too much for him? Will Katie and Dalton get their happy ending.

I love Dalton! Yes, I am officially claiming him as a top book boyfriend of Mrs. Edwards because let me tell you, Dalton is sex on a stick! He is the utter perfection of alpha male. I loved how persistent he was. Like any man, I wanted to smack him a time or two but that goes without saying! And Katie, I really liked her. I loved these two together... explosive chemistry! I loved the ending! And I cannot wait for the next book in this series!

I highly recommend reading ANYTHING by this author!

5 Even Hotter Stars!!

TITLE~ Vanishing Dreams
AUTHOR~ Nicole Edwards
GENRE~ Adult-Erotic Romance-Music-Contemporary
PUBLISHED~ October 21st 2014 by SL Independent Publishing, LLC
PURCHASED/COST~ ARC for review
MY RATING~ 5/5

MY THOUGHTS~
I was provided with an ARC for review.
So, if I thought I was in love with Cooper Krenshaw from book 1, Chasing Dreams, I was terribly mistaken, because Dalton Calhoun has definitely taken up residence in my heart! Hot and sexy don't even begin to describe this man! I won't go into further detail though, because I'd rather let y'all experience the man for yourselves.
Again, Nicole Edwards has written another book that is beautiful, hot, and amazing enough for the record books! Vanishing Dreams is beautifully written and has stayed with me since I read the very last page. The characters are as amazing as they all were in book 1, Chasing Dreams, if not even more so. Again, the story flowed well and there were twists and turns in this one that couldn't be predicted from the beginning.
Vanishing Dreams overlaps with Chasing Dreams and as such, we get more insight into Cooper & Tessa's story as well as surrounding characters. Also, as a HUGE kicker and a little fact that makes author Nicole Edwards a big F'ing TEASE, we get a little...wait for it... I've only got two words for you...BRAYDON WALKER!! <3
Vanishing Dreams has been added, alongside it's predecessor, Chasing Dreams, to my "to re-read" and "favorites" lists! I can't wait for more! Hurry up, Nicole!

Another 5 STAR read by Nicole Edwards.. this women really rocks the pages..

You get to hear a little about Cooper & Tess from Book 1, you get a little taste of Braydon Walker from Alluring Indulgence & and you get a peek at what may be ahead for Tess's brother in future reads. Amazing how Nicole can tangle all them in and keep us wanting more..

Dalton is a Country Music Heart throb who feels as though something is missing in his life.. He arrives in Texas to help out his friend Cooper and meets Katie.. Instant attraction for Dalton.. Katie is a mystery, not a star struck fan girl - a real down to earth type.. doesn't talk much about herself.. you know there's more to her then meets the eye, but what... you'll have to read the story to find out.. we all have pasts some things hinder our future more than others..

I enjoyed the way Nicole wrote this story, another joyous ride through one of her books.. The women just never disappoints. Looking forward to the next book in the series..

1.5 stars. I was incredibly disappointed in this book. It stars out with Katie and Dalton already having some kind of a relationship. Maybe that started in book 1 of this series, but I read that a year ago. Some kind of refresh would have been nice. But without that I felt like I couldn't connect to the characters or what attracted them to one another. And then we have the ridiculous, completely unnecessary secrets Katie was keeping. I was nearly 50% into the book and still had no idea who she was or why these secrets were necessary. I finished the book but for the first time ever in a Nicole Edwards book, I began skimming through. And if it's any indication of how unconnected I was with the characters, I even skimmed the sex scenes.

After enjoying the first Devils Bend book, I was really looking forward to this one. It felt like the author didn't know what the secrets were for the female lead until far into the book, when it was abruptly dumped on the reader. There was also a series of weird references to geldings (horses) being female. Surprising mistake. Just didn't have the magic of the first one, I'm sad to say.

Thank you Nicole Edwards, Tor Thom and Charley Ongel for gifting me this book for a fair and honest review.

Dalton is a rising country music singer, he loves to sing at his best friend Coopers fiancé Tessa’s bar the Rusty Nail. He is also attracted to Katie Clarren who works there. Katie however attracted to Dalton has secrets that few know of and she needs to keep it that way. The paparazzi leaks one of these secrets to Dalton who has a hard time getting past it. Till he gets all the facts.
Ok having said that I have to say Dalton is not on my list of book boyfriends. I could not get past his anger that Katie had wronged him by not telling him all about her life career choices or why she had made them. Even after he found out the truth and made things right.
I do however admire Katie in her steadfast resolve and determination.

Country singer, Dalton, is spending time in Devil’s Bend, TX until he leaves for his music tour. He is attracted to waitress, Katie, and keeps asking her out. When Katie finally gives in, the pair start a fling. Katie ends the relationship when she starts having feelings for Dalton...but ends it without an explanation. The townspeople all think that Katie is sweet, innocent college student just working to pay her way through school...but Katie has secrets...and Dalton is furious when he discovers a part. Katie’s efforts to reach out to Dalton are rebuffed. Katie is infuriating because she refuses to trust anyone and Dalton is equally frustrating with his judgmental and hypocritical attitude...it’s brilliant!! We have a sweet HEA after all secrets are revealed. Fantastic narration!

Everyone always has dreams but sometimes they need to be changed. But you always need these dreams or goals if you will to keep you going. Katie had her dreams dashed when her mom left but she tries to make new ones but something seems to be blocking them. So she just wants to survive. Dalton came to Devil’s Bend because of his friend, Cooper, and he really liked it here. Especially with a cute waitress at the Rusty Nail bar. He is really having a hard time getting to know Katie but he won’t give up. Katie and Dalton both have secrets. Wonder how long before the truth comes out. Will it be good or bad?

This was a good 2nd book in this duo. Two books, two country music stars, two small town gals and two special love stories. The path was very bumpy for Katie and Dalton but in the end they got their HEA!

I can recommend this duo!

This is the second instalment in Nicole Edwards, Devil’s Bend series and it is just as punchy as the first.
Vanishing Dreams, is aptly titled and the story does exactly what it implies.
It follow the evolving situation/relationship between Dalton (Copper’s Best Friend) and Katie (the quiet, waitress from the Rusty Nail) as it dances its way through the ups and downs of life, taking no short measure when it comes to the fact that we all have dreams but dreams change when life gets in the way and for both Dalton and Katie, life has every intension of getting right up in their faces!.
Dalton and Katie have an elementary attraction to each other and while Dalton is open to a relationship, Katie has skeletons in her cupboard that mean she knows a relationship is not on the cards for her, no matter how much she wants it and how deeply she feels towards Dalton.
She knows that by keeping her distance she will protect herself from the heartbreak of him walking away when he finds out and also she hopes she can protect him from the scandal that her secrets would heap on a man in his position. It is a shame that he finds out from a third party and proves her right by walking away.
But her biggest secret of all, is one that neither of them can walk away from but she is not ready to share that with him yet.
Dalton is the uber sexy, and ultra successful country music star who fell into the music scene when an incident in his youth made him change his path. Not that he hasn’t fully embraced his career and learnt to live with the regret he feels from those days.
The story delivers a strong message in as much as it shows us that no-one is perfect and that everyone has a past but that past does not define the person they are now, it only helps to shape the path they are on, but all too often bad things happen to good people, it isn’t being knocked down that shows what you are made of, it is what you do when you stand back up again and Katie stands tall, doing exactly what she has to do to survive and to fulfil her obligations.
You have to work with the hand you are dealt and in Katie’s case the hand has been pretty much stacked against her.
I spent much of the book, just wishing that the pair of them would sit down and talk, the majority of their issues were as a result of the fact that they didn’t seem to be able to hold a meaningful conversation. I liked the fact that the story was not rushed it evolved over a period of months, many of which they were not together.
The ethos of the story appeared to be that good things come to those that wait and that in order to have happiness you have to accept each other, baggage, mistakes and all!
Deciding whether to grab the dream they are both are wishing for or to let it go and part ways for good was never going to be an easy decision but I was delighted in the fact that it was Dalton that made the move to put them back together, all too often situations such as this we see the woman, making the first move, laying her heart on the line but the author turned the tables on the norm and showed us just how much Katie meant to Dalton as he took the bull by the horns and put himself out there for her, because he couldn’t deny how he felt about her any longer and following his decision to sell up an move to Texas, he knew that being around Katie and not being with her was nigh on impossible.
I don’t want to give away spoilers in this review but the characters close to Katie – are just perfect, her best friend is just what a girl needs.
Cooper and Tess make and appearance and in the books and it was lovely to catch up with them but it was a very clever touch by the author to include Braydon from her Alluring Indulgence series in the book, reminding us of the fact that she has a host of amazing characters in her other books that are just waiting in the wings to pop up and say hello. I also liked the intrigue that was implied when referring to Braydon, again highlighting his book in the AI series which I am sure will be amazing.

Vanishing Dreams is book 2 in the Devil’s Bend Series by Nicole Edwards. It tells us the story of Katie and Dalton. The Devil’s Bend Series is a contemporary romance series and it shows us the softer more romantic side of Nicole Edwards.

Katie holds a secret, one that she isn’t ready to let anyone in the small town of Devil’s Bend to find out, least of all, the ones closest to her. She isn’t ashamed of her secret but she also isn’t naïve to think that people won’t judge her. She does what she needs to do in order to get by in life, a life that at the age of 18 drastically changed leaving her without a lot of options. When she finds herself getting closer and closer and falling harder and harder for Dalton she knows she needs to end it before her heart gets broken or her secret is discovered.

Dalton Calhoun is looking to slow things down a bit by moving from Nashville Tennessee to Devil’s Bend Texas. The country music superstar lives his life on the go and doesn’t know how to slow down. Never looking at a woman long term he finds himself shocked that with one look at Katie everything he thought he wanted in life changes. He sets out to win Katie and in the process finds himself falling for the shy and innocent waitress. When things start to heat up he knows that something is up with every vague answer that Katie gives him about her life, never revealing too much. His life is always in the spotlight and makes the headlines so when someone breaks the story about the Katie nobody knows about Dalton is knocked on his butt and the anger consumes him.

Will Katie be able to keep her heart in tacked and her secret kept? Will Dalton finally be able to slow down and find the one woman to spend his life with? Or will Katie’s secret and Dalton’s lifestyle prove to be too much and ruin more than just their vanishing dreams?

A plus goes to Nicole Edwards for giving me another great novel. A true and beautiful love story between 2 people that know what they have to do to survive. It may not be pretty but life is not always pretty. Katie is a beautiful and strong character they I found myself sometimes wanting to strangle because although it was noble to put everyone before herself she has been through so much in her short life that I wanted her to put herself first for once. Dalton is sexy and strong and everything a girl could want and he wanted her, secrets and all. I never felt like Dalton would bolt at the first sign of trouble but Katie thought otherwise.

Nicole always gives us sexy cowboys to fall in love with and Dalton is no different. Country boy at heart he knows how to please a woman in and out of the bedroom and I would get in line to find a cowboy like that! I couldn’t have asked for anything more from Nicole with Vanishing Dreams, I think that is complimented Chasing Dreams beautifully. It’s not her typical erotic series and I think that is great. It warms my heart to find an author that can write many different types of genres and do it with such ease.

Vanishing Dreams is a very easy read that will warm your heart and feed your soul. True love at it’s finest. It will take you on the journey and show you that love is not always pretty; at sometimes it can be downright messy but if it’s true love the kind that lasts forever and than some than everything you go through is worth it in the end. Lead with your heart and hope that the person you are walking with will catch you when you fall. Dalton will never let Katie fall – he is the type of love that will always catch her and gently place her back on her feet and help her to keep walking. Katie is the soft one, the one that will hold Dalton’s hand during the hard times and kick his butt when he needs it. She will always see the good in him and love him with her whole heart. For better or worse this couple just works beautifully. Dalton and Katie together, there are no dreams that won’t come through for them.

Get it! Read it! Love it! Great job Nicole!

This is Dalton and Katie’s story and the second book in the Devil’s Bend series. This follows on from Chasing Dreams which was Cooper and Tess’ story and although this can be read standalone I would recommend you read the series in order.

Dalton first appeared as Cooper’s best friend and fellow country singing star in Chasing Dreams where the reader was given hints of Dalton and Katie first getting together.

Each of them are heading down different paths they had originally planned out for their hopes and dreams, however was this fate’s plan that would eventually bring them both together?

This was a great storyline and I found it at a much more engaging pace than Cooper and Tess’ story. I felt there was a lot more depth and grit to focus on, especially in Katie’s life. But it is over a year since I read that book! I found myself having a great deal of empathy for Katie and what she has gone through in her young life. With all her struggles and worries she has remained a strong and resilient woman. I liked her a lot. Now as for Dalton, he was off the charts smoking hot but also an absolute sweetheart. I just loved everything about him. From his sexy stage persona to his sweet and tender ways that he cared for Katie. He was also not afraid to acknowledge his feelings either which made him all the more sexy to me!

There was some fantastic angst and frustration thrown in for good measure which I love in my romance reads. I am a lover of Ms Edwards’ erotic series but this one is a lot more contemporary which is a refreshing change. However dear reader do not worry as we still get plenty of steam and passion between Dalton and Katie, it is still smoking hot. Rawr!

Even though I adored this book I still did not think the hidden secrets were too bad to be revealed to each other and their friends. Maybe I’m a little more jaded and nothing shocks me anymore, I don’t know but I was just thinking after I found out what it was ‘Just tell him already woman!’ but then I was annoyed at Dalton’s initial reaction. Sheesh!

I love my cowboys and when they are sexy superstar country singers too well that just makes it a winner for me and this series is certainly giving me my country romance kink. I am really looking forward to Jack’s story next, I can feel it in my bones that is going to be scorching hot because I love who his pairing will be. Oh Yay! Five ‘cowboy’ stars.

**#2 of a series, but can be read as a stand alone**

Famous country singer Dalton Calhoun has it all: fame, money, and looks. Feeling restless with the same life, day after day, Dalton decides to change things up. Heeding the advice and call for help from an old friend, Dalton finds himself in Devils Bend, Texas. About as far away from the country music scene as one can get. Changing his music gigs from 10,000+ seat arenas, to a bar stage leads him right to her. The dark hair vixen working in the Rusty Nail has caught both Dalton's eyes, and she's not so sure she likes it. Can Dalton use his good old boy charm to win her over, or will his fame drive them apart?

Katie Clarren is a down to earth country girl that was dealt a bad hand in life. Making tough decisions and staying strong has become a way of life for Katie and it's hard for her to trust many. She doesn't have time to get stars in her eyes when she meets Dalton Calhoun and she doesn't need the complication. At least this is was Katie tells herself every time she feels the flutter in her heart for Dalton. She knows a relationship with Dalton will only lead to heartache and she isn't sure it's worth it. Would Dalton even want her if he knew her secrets and is she willing to give him that chance?

As Dalton tries his hardest to soften her heart, he feels Katie pulling away. Can he persuade her to let him in or will his persistence drive her away? And if she runs, will Dalton follow?

"And the truth shall set you free" -John 8:32

This book was not one I could put down!!! I was once again sucked into the world of Devil's Bend, Texas and was enthralled by the story Nichole wrote! I was drooling over Dalton (you will too) and feeling my heart break for all the pain Katie has been through. This was an honest testament to how sometimes love takes 'a road less straight.' I did give four stars because Katie's stubborn streak seemed to lead to far more angst than needed and the development of her character was not smooth. This being said, Katie is still by far one of the BEST FEMALE LEADS I have read in a book in a long time! I love a strong independant woman, which is a far cry from the norm now and days!! This story was great, complex and intriguing... the sexual parts were STEAMY AND SMOKING HOT! I can not wait until the next book comes out... and I am sitting on edge to read Jack's story!!

Having loved the first book in this series, Chasing Dreams, I jumped at the opportunity to read this story. I wasn’t disappointed at all!! I had to re-read Chasing Dreams first though, just to refresh my memory!! With a long time between books, you kind of need to do that.
I absolutely LOVED it!!!
Vanishing Dreams is about Dalton Calhoun and Katie Clarren.
Dalton is Cooper Krenshaw’s friend. He also happens to be a successful country singer like Cooper!!! Swoon right??? Katie works at The Rusty Nail as a waitress.
Dalton and Katie seem to be friendly enough especially towards the end of Chasing Dreams and he keeps trying to get Katie to go out with him. Go Dalton!!! I mean who in their right mind would want to resist his charms????
Katie has a few secrets that she has never told anyone. They go out, or non- dating as Katie calls it!!Lol!! Katie has trouble letting him get too close due to what she is hiding. They have some very HOT moments together. What follow’s next is them taking time apart due to Dalton’s family commitments and Katie’s studies and her essentially ‘letting him go’.
But when Dalton finally finds out what she’s been hiding, well things don’t go down very well. Silence…… avoidance……until ultimately their feelings for each other take over and they just have to see each other, have to talk things through. Then Katie has to tell him another secret!! When you read it you will be surprised.
I can understand Katie doing what she did, it cannot have been easy for her at all, having to look after someone so important as well as herself and make ends meet. Not easy for someone so young.
Ultimately once everything is out in the open, they find a way to be together and have happiness. Goodness knows they both deserve it. Nicole’s writing doesn’t disappoint with the hot scenes either. But be warned you will need tissues in some parts!!!
It was great to hear from Tessa, Cooper and the gang, seeing how the Equestrian centre is coming along too. The talk between everyone in this book was great, a real sense of family!! I am really looking forward to the next book in this series.

I don’t think Nicole Edwards could ever write a book that I don’t love. She is amazing, every single story is so different from the last but they all intertwine with one another as well as mixing characters from other series, shes just brilliant.

Vanishing Dreams is the story of Dalton Calhoun, friend of Copper Krenshaw and fellow a country singer was introduced in Devils Bend book one, Chasing Dreams, and Katie Clarren the quiet waitress from The Rusty Nail. Dalton is a country singer just like his mate

Meeting Dalton has disrupted Katie’s well thought out life. The last thing in her plan was to meet and fall in love with the sexy, sweet talking country music heart throb. Katie is quiet and very private about her life outside of The Rusty Nail, her guard is up and no one will break through to disrupt her life or the lives of those she loves.

Dalton can’t get Katie out of his mind, she not like any other woman he has ever met before and she just might be the one woman to bring him to his knees.

The two fall hard and they fall fast for one another but with every hard and fast relationship they are met with their fair share of obstacle. Secrets can be devastating for any relationship but can a relationship be rebuilt when all secrets and reasons are revealed?

I love Katie, I think she is such a strong character who is fiercely protective of the people in her life, which the shitty hand she was dealt at a young age she has become an amazing person.

Dalton is the hot cowboy you expect him to be, but under the country music sensation layer he is also an amazing guy who has found the love of his life and wants nothing more than to make her happy.

I loved the little appearance of Braydon and I’m now counting down the days to November 24.

As usual Nicole has done good! Another great book that will go straight into the favorites pile along with Devils Bend 1, all Club Destiny and Alluring Indulgence books, everything she writes turns to gold.

This is Katie and Dalton's book.
I gave this book 5 stars.
Nicole is one of my favorite authors. I love all she writes and just soak it up like a sponge. This story was no different, I was so excited to continue to read about Devils Bend. This is book number two. Yes this is book two in the series and although you might get a better feel for the town and the characters in the books this can be read as a stand alone.

Katie .. Poor, poor, Katie. She has been through so much in her life. It is hard for her to trust and let people in. She has put her life back together the best way she knows how. But then she meets Dalton and his sexy ways and she realizes her life might not be all she wants it to be. BUT letting Dalton in would mean revealing her secrets and she is not ready to do that. So even though she cares about Dalton and loves him she knows she has to keep her distance and that there isn't much of a future for them.

Can Dalton get past her walls? Can he show Katie that he is real and that he is in it for the long haul ?? Dalton finds everything he wants in Devils Bend when he follows his friend, he never thought he would lose his heart to beautiful Katie. Dalton is sweet and handsome and everything she has looked for. Will they get past all the secrets and be able to make it work.

I do believe that Ms. Nicole has done it again. Well she always does I don't know why I was surprised. These two are beautiful together and I was sucked into the pages of this story. I love this series, I can't wait to read Adam and Jack's story. I am sure they are going to be just as sizzling. Thank you Nicole for another amazing story!!

“Are you gonna kiss me?”

Vanishing Dreams is book 2 in the Devil’s Bend series by Nicole Edwards although it is easily read as a standalone. Vanishing Dreams tells the story of famous singer Dalton Calhoun and spunky waitress Katie Clarren. We met both these characters in book one and learned of their attraction for each other so when this book starts they are already deep in the midst of a flirting relationship. But for Katie that is where is needs to stay. Katie has many secrets and knows it is for the best to keep Dalton at arms length but their sexual chemistry makes this very very difficult.

“He damn sure didn’t intend to give up until she was his. Forever.”

Despite Katie pulling back from him, Dalton is determined to make her his. Now this being said that does not mean he doesn’t make many mistakes of his own and even lets her run from him. It is clear from early on that Dalton and Katie love each other and even that they are aware of this but all the secrets Katie is keeping makes a relationship impossible. In order to have the only man she has loved and given herself to she has to learn to open up and let him in to not only understand her but to help too.

“I’ve got you, Katie,”

This book started off getting super sexy sooner than the first but I honestly felt it had even more depth and story than Chasing Dreams as the story played out. I fell for these two and desperately wanted them to put their stupid decisions and thoughts of what they thought were best for the other aside and just be together. Once I started getting into this book I simply could not put it down and was riveted by Katie’s life and all she has been through. If all of this does not convince you to read this great book how about the fact that Braydon Walker makes an appearance! For me I would be SOLD! I am loving the Devil’s Bend series and absolutely cannot wait for the next story!

4.5 Smooches
