I have no idea why I write. I know that I like to and wish I had done it all my life. I've thought of various reasons why I started which come and go. The only one which keeps coming back, is that my beginnings coincided with when my dog, Daisy, started to slow down. I am an embarassing 65 years of age now, and I enjoy writing more than anything else, other than being with Daisy. If I could venture a purpose, which isn't easy, it would be that I like to keep doing different things. I hope readers do not want to hear the same story over and over again. They all are derivative and boring.

I intend to try to tell the sagas of various people at the most interesting time of their lives. I think that to do follow ups with the same characters is more lucrative, but would result in lesser stories for the readers and would be tedious for me. We are all entitled to have some fun. Despite the logic conveyed by those most beneficial of the sadness, aren't we entitled to live and love? The answer seems so obvious.

This story is an honest, at times intimately revealing companionship between an aging man and his adopted dog Daisy. We get to meet a vast array of canines and their owners, through various encounters in Corrales, New Mexico, mostly on treks along the Rio Grande.

We come to know that Ed and his wife Diane have an affinity for abandoned animals. Knowingly, Diane is the one who brings home ‘the Daisy surprise’ to Ed’s delight and the bonding is immediate.

Ed shares everything with Daisy including personal insights and societal quirks and annoyances. How much Daisy apprehends is hard to say. Ed reminds us that “Daisy is a smart dog” and indeed she seems to be, with an unhindered friendliness and willingness to meet everyone that passes their way.

If only the rest of the world would be as naturally loving and accommodating as Daisy.

The writing is descriptive and easy to visualize with Ed and Daisy as the center piece, along with cameo appearances from members of Corrales community they meet along the way. Infused with thoughtful metaphor, subtle humor, and personal reflections.

Anyone who’s had a dog or maybe anyone - will identify with the countless expressions they exhibit and their influence on their human companions.

Relaxed enjoyable read.
