Nightmare Acres is for the dark, the depraved, and the lost.
Vampires, demons, ghosts, and witches...
All the frights of the night stalk the grounds at Nightmare acres, hiding their true idnenities from the humans who’ve come to their cursed playground.
Single mom, Olivia, finds herself reluctantly amongst the crowd when she’s sepreated from her friends and lands in the arms of a handsome stranger, only there’s more to him and the others working there than meets the eye.
Olivia didn’t want to go to Nightmare Acres, she wanted to go trick or treating with her daughters but when her good for nothing ex shows up and takes the girls, she is convinced by her best friend to join and her life takes the ultimate turn. This is a spicy, why choose, spooky novella and you will love every piece of it! Our main men are Phantom- a phantom, Talon- a vampire, and Matchbox- a demon, all fated to serve out their existence at Nightmare Acres. When they come across Olivia, all three want her for their own, but will they be willing to share? The creativity, the spice, the revenge, all make this the perfect Halloween novella. I can’t wait to read more about these characters in the sequel.
“Your fear is delectable, my little ghoul. I can’t wait to swallow those screams of yours.”
This was such a fun story. I really liked it! It may have been a short story, but plenty happened in these 113 pages.
I went in blind and when you read this review, I want to give you that same pleasure. I want to keep this short, so I don't spoil too much. I will tell you that it's a fast paced, spicy, why choose, spooky story with some horror elements and a touch of revenge. I read it in one sitting and I can't wait for the sequel! 🖤
Stop what you’re doing and add this book to your spooky steamy Fall TBR list. Check all the triggers first… but know that omg, you will never go through another haunted house again and be satisfied with just the general tour. Super spice and everything not nice made this book a real Halloween treat! 🌶️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃
A quick and fun halloween novella. Great storyline with amazing chatacters. No rushing in the story and well balanced with the spice, and what great spice it is 🥵 Olivia deserved better, and she got it and her revenge the way we all wish we could 😈 I absolutely love Talon, Phantom, and Matchbox 🖤 I loved the chemistry between all of them and each other. I really hope Dakota plans to write another book about them cause I will buy it immediately!
The more I read of dakota wilde, the more I enjoy of her. Her books are always jam packed of the greatest characters, of storylines that are written brilliantly, on their own and intertwine together, never overruling another and coming together at the end. Sensitive issues are written well, and the spice scenes are off the charts!!
I won't tell much it will alot away! But. we begin with Olivia getting ready to go trick or treating with her 2 little girls when her ex, their estranged daddy turns up out the blue to take them out instead. Rather than get into an argument she let's them go, and after talking to her friend, she's persuaded to go out to a haunted house....
But when she gets there... She's not so sure she should have gone...
She's split up from her friends quite quickly and that's not been done accidentally......
She's caught the eye of several of the characters busy scaring the visitors of Nightmare Acres....
Loved this book. Have found I have a love of reading Halloween reads! They're always so delicious, dark, twisted and spicy to read. And of course.... It's always read with that "it's just Halloween" thought in the back of your mind with a slight trace of if "but is it......" underneath!!!
There's a downside to this book and that is it's quite short, which is a shame. But on the plus side there's a book following to complete it which I really cannot wait for!!! To see what happens to Talon, Phantom and Matchbox with Olivia and her girls..... Definitely be picking it up!!!

such a fun, fast paced novella !! I really enjoyed this ❤️🔥❤️🔥 the concept was super cool to me with the haunted house scare actors being real monsters, and I loved Olivia’s (that’s the FMC) mindset shift as the book went on. the fact she was a single mom was a dynamic I hadn’t read before and it was honestly so amazing to see!
I’m also such a sucker for why choose/polyam books and when it’s a vampire, ghost/phantom and a demon with horns? yeah I’m so about that 😮💨
overall, spicy and fun and perfect as a palate cleanser 😍
It was clear that Olivia was a good mom. Her 2 girls were her main focus and priority. She loved those girls fiercely. She didn’t have a lot of confidence because of her ex husband, but she gets a lot stronger.
Phantom, Talon and Matchbox were all mysterious but all cared about Olivia. At first they were just obsessed, but after learning more about her they wanted more from her.
I was shocked at the ending! I was not expecting betrayal like that. It’s short, smutty and perfect for Halloween.
“What’s a Halloween without a little murder, mayhem, and madness?” “Why do I get the feeling that I’m going to regret this later?” “You can run, but you can’t hide, girlie.” “Do you want to play, Phantom?”
Great, short and spicy why choose Halloween novella filled with vampires, demons, ghosts & witches.
Even though the book was quite short, there was a lot happening. The pacing was fast, but never felt rushed, and there was still time for character building and development.
There's something about Halloween that just calls for fast paced, high heat, spooky novellas and Hallows Fright fits that bill to a T. Taking place in a haunted house that's perhaps just a little too realistic, you get it all from the little dashes of horror to the monstrous lovers to the sword crossing to the revenge plot this baby’s got it all. And then to find out we're getting more of this world?! Delicious.
If you're looking for a quick, monster romance with all the spooky vibes and plenty of spice to go around, I definitely recommend this smutty little Halloween novella. Olivia becomes the plaything for 3 monsters on Halloween night, and she's never the same again. I especially enjoyed the little feminine rage, revenge plot twist we get.
This book was AMAZING. It was such a fun, light gore, Halloween read. Talon, Phantom and Matchbox were all so good to Olivia. We love a good why choose trope and this was it. Please pick it up you won’t regret it!
This book is everything I could ever want in a dark romance. Ghosts, vampires, demons and ex's getting what they deserve. I love these characters and I truly loved this book. Read it. Immediately. Well, check triggers. Then read it!
Some typos and the nicknames weren't my favourite thing in life 😂. However, it was a good fun halloweeny 🦇 🎃 time. Plus it's short and sweet so an quick easy read with lots of spice. Enjoy your time at Nightmare Acres.
This was a fun novella! I really enjoyed the spooky shenanigans between the main characters. And all the spicy bits were delicious 🤤 I can’t wait to read the next one!
A quick novella, it’s not without a bit of bl00d, g0re, a smattering of vampires, demons and ghosts, maybe a cameo from the devil. O! I better not forget the spookiness and spiciness 😈
Seriously, it’s a Halloween read to enjoy if you’re into all the above.
”You wanted to be taken by a pair of monsters, little ghoul, your wish is fucking granted.”
This dark and delicious Halloween themed novella really hit the spot as a little palate cleanser. I loved that it was a FMC in her 30s as I felt able to connect with her a bit more than normal. The monster-infested Halloween carnival was such a fun theme. Sexy play play scenes were abundant!
I have A LOT to say about this one. Incoming ramble.
Okay so the concept and overall execution was good, I loved the vampire/demon/ghost MMCs and I absolutely love MMMF but…there were some glaring inconsistencies that just nagged at me. First of all, I understand that this was a shorter read and insta-love is usually the name of the game, but it felt so damn fast across the board. All these monsters just fell HARD for this non-descript girl at first glance. Like…HUH? No actual monster stuff, no REAL dubcon, nothing aggressive and mean that perhaps awakened FMC’s dark side and she loved it and THEN they go “Hmm, maybe she’s the fit for us as a mate instead of prey…”
Like, I loved the fact that she was early 30s and plush but again with the blonde-haired angel bit. I’m so sick of it, it’s way too overdone. But that’s a common cliche and I can’t even be mad about it. What bothered me was the gross inconsistency. First encounter they rip her clothes off, all of them, then toss (I assume) Phantom’s T-shirt at her, tells her to run. Okay cool. No one bats a lash at this woman running nearly naked through the haunt and then Matchbox shows up and that’s instalove too. No questions, no monster behavior, just “dayum gurl, you mine now” (this is the same sentiment when he pops up before and someone, it’s never said who, stabs him in the head with his own knife - another event that just disappeared into the aether).
But I could even look past THAT toward the greater good, but what sent me into a tailspin was this girl talking ab her phone had no bars and how she sent texts. She has her phone? HOW?! She was pantsless, being chased by two horny monsters and then hoisted up against the wall and canoodled by a third and somehow still had her phone???? THEN, she gets chased by werewolves, tackled to the ground, almost eaten, TAKEN AGAIN, and STILL somehow has her phone in hand. The author was gracious enough to permit that it was badly cracked but COME ON!! Major suspension of disbelief for that. I liked the story, bottom line, but those giant plot holes were just killing me.
Other items of note: the spice WAS spicy, albeit a bit rushed (but okay, taking toooo long does get boring after a while), I couldn’t for the life of me hash out what the loophole actually was, and the bit with the werewolves attacking and the devil popping up to throw a tantrum then promptly go away all felt shoehorned in. Those events added so little to the story (not even the overall plot, just the story that was happening right then). I was just confused as to why it was happening at all. Was a werewolf gonna join in? Was the devil gonna see reason? No? No. Could’ve left that all the way out of this volume and wrote it a little more solidly in the next.
And lastly, the big reveal with the bestie and the ex. Come ON... this pinning everything on another woman bit. I am so over making cheating or mentally unwell female antagonists to justify what the FMC does. Could’ve just as easily made the girl FMC's ex was with some rando but nope. Make the BFF the cause of FMC’s pain so she (and the reader) don’t feel guilty/disgusted about boinking monsters and trading her soul for their constant attentions. Gotta tie up loose ends bc what if BFF shames FMC, amirite? So instead of standing by your choice for better or worst, just in case BFF turns the tables and ditches FMC for being so irresponsible (making HER the bad guy) let’s turn her into a traitorous witch whose unrealistically arrogant in a legitimately dangerous situation. Riiiiiiight. Kinda tired of these authors building the main characters’ HEA on the ashes of some side character’s unnecessary betrayal/personality disorder. Take the HEA bc that’s what you choose and live with the consequences, not bc someone else justifies it for you.
Oh but no, that’s called “accountability”, and our precious FMC is much too good for that despite being pretty messed up herself (she’s FMC if a dark romance. She’s messed up).
This was a fun entertaining short read. I was actually super into the plot until too much started being added in for a novella. There needs to be a good balance of plot but not too much plot, and it got to be too much by the end.
The characters also went from 0 to 100 really quick and it kinda made it weird. From like, super creepy spicy fun, to like tying souls together and feelings.
But. It was spicy and hot and a fun little Halloween themed read.
the only reaction this book elicited from me was near constant eyerolls. I wasn't expecting a masterpiece or literature but jfc this reads like an edgy teens daydream.
Ready to get lost in a spooky, seductive playground where the dark side comes to play?
Welcome to Nightmare Acres—the cursed land crawling with vampires, demons, ghosts, and witches who are hiding their true selves from the clueless humans who dare to enter.
But when single mom Olivia steps into the madness, her life takes an unexpected—and wildly spicy—turn!
Olivia didn’t even want to be at Nightmare Acres. All she wanted was a simple night trick-or-treating with her daughters, but her good-for-nothing ex throws a wrench in those plans.

Each of these supernatural hotties is doomed to serve at Nightmare Acres, but when Olivia stumbles into their orbit, sparks fly—and let’s just say, none of them are willing to share without a fight. 🔥

Nightmare Acres is for the dark, the depraved, and the lost.
After the Halloween she had planned is ruined by her narcissistic ex, Oliva reluctantly finds herself on a trip to Nightmare Acres. Upon entering the Haunted House, she and her friends get split up. Olivia isn’t the scare fest type and quickly becomes terrified at the nightmares that lurk around every corner. That is until she (literally) runs into a handsome stranger. With his protection she perseveres. But what will happen when she realises her saviour isn’t quite who she thinks? In fact, nothing at Nightmare Acres is what it seems…
Hallows Fright is a novella and Part One of the Nightmare Acres series. Dakota absolutely knocked it out of the park with this one. I can’t explain how happy this read made my spooky little heart. We’re talking pure pumpkin spice, candy corn infused, horror loving, joy. And the little nods to my favourite band – total bonus!
After being in my own nightmare with a narcissist, I empathised hard with Olivia. Dakota perfectly captured the very real emotions and manipulations that sadly occur in these situations. That said, lurking beneath Olivia’s surface was a total baddie, just waiting for the right man (or men) (or something else) to nurture.
I adored all of our MMC’s but will admit to having a soft spot for one in particular (points if you guess who lol). Each character was written with very distinct…traits. It was awesome to hear the story told in their own words in a multiple POV style.
If you’re a Halloween loving dark romance fan like me, this is for you!
I can’t wait to return to Nightmare Acres – Not just for my hoodie! (IYKYK) 4.75 🌟
Detailed spoilers/trigger warnings (if any) and final thoughts can be found below.
The FMC is Olivia. She’s a single mom attempting to co-parent with her ex, who makes things difficult at every turn. When he shows up unexpectedly to take their daughters out for Halloween, she reluctantly agrees. With a free night on her hands, she decides to take her best friend up on an offer to visit a local haunted attraction that is apparently all the buzz on social media.
The place and the vibe is more than she bargained for and when she gets separated from her friends, she realizes her night has just begun and quickly her life changes forever. This is not just a normal haunted house and the things that go bump in the night do not take their costumes off when their shift is over. Nightmare Acres houses all sorts of souls and three of them have fallen hard for the FMC. When she is presented with a way to save them and this place they call home, she accepts, because saving herself and her girls is what matters. But also the heart wants what it wants, leaving her to wonder how they can make that work.

Final thoughts: Don’t ask for a spicy Halloween novella if you don’t want one. I learned that lesson with this book. I loved that I got exactly what I wanted. There’s a tiny bit of plot here, but plenty of spice with the scare and spook that you want from a Halloween themed book. It’s a quick read so I didn’t mind that the plot wasn’t strong. If you’re looking for a Halloween themed read, I definitely recommend adding this to your list.
