Posted at Oh My Books!

I'm going to be honest, I'm not super excited for Christmas this year, so I really need that dose of magic that books and movies usually gives me to feel the season.

A Little Christmas Spirit was the perfect way to start. It does makes you feel as if you are in a cute town, where everyone knows each other, snow all around and overall the "perfect Christmas" with family and friends.

I was a little bit lost at the beginning with so many characters but eventually connected, specially with Fraser, who isn't feeling very excited either about this Christmas. All of their stories are connected because they know each other, it felt a little bit as Love Actually, which I love.

Sometimes there it too much pressure to spend the 'perfect' Christmas, so I loved the idea of a read-in on Christmas Eve at the cafe. Books, coffee, hot chocolate and cakes, I'm in. It's based on a tradition called Jolabokaflod, I'd love to do something similar one day, sounds like a great plan for book lovers.

Overall, I liked A Little Christmas Spirit and feel like it's the perfect read for the season. I was expecting a happy ending, but also got a little cute twist I wasn't expecting.

Thank you Rachels Random Resources for providing a copy for review.

I must confess to owning but not yet getting to the other titles in this series, so it was a leap of faith to start later in the series and hope for the best. Thankfully, Susan Buchanan writes in a way that allows for those joining later, and I never felt even vaguely out of my depth.
This is a delightful ensemble piece that captured my imagination and had me reading from beginning to end in a single sitting. The characters are all beautifully drawn and easy to imagine, and the scenarios are painfully relatable yet conveyed with such a warmth that it felt almost impossible not to be swept up in the wave of emotions that this sweet story conjured up.
My favourite character was Bella. After just a year of marriage, her new husband had asked her for a divorce. Devastated, she couldn’t accept being without him, and she imagined all her hopes and dreams drifting away. I genuinely felt her pain and hoped against hope that such devastation would be resolved in the spirit of Christmas.
I also enjoyed seeing Fraser find his feet and discover a confidence he didn’t realise was within him. His friendship with Paul was an absolute blessing, giving him the strength to trust himself and step out of his comfort zone.
A special mention has to go to Lara, the sweet surprise of the story who seemed to be an afterthought but proved intrinsic to the story.
I feel that I’m heading into the realm of spoilers, so I will stop there. I hope you discover the delightful community at the Sugar and Spice Café soon. I can promise you that it is enchanting, and you’ll thoroughly enjoy your visits.

Can Christmas and its Spirit fix all the problems?

Christmas is approaching and it should be the most magical time of the year. Unfortunately, that the case for everyone… Because Fraser has recently become headteacher and he is struggling with his new position. But he is also struggling with feelings of guilt since his mother had to move into a care home. And let’s not talk about his romantic life, which is non – existing.
Paul the janitor loves his job, and even if he has reached the age to retire, he for sure believes he could add a few extra years working. Even if his wife is already making plans for after retirement and is even pressuring Paul into it.
Valerie meanwhile should be enjoying her newborn twins, but finds herself longing for more me – time, as she is doing the biggest part of parenting on her own and feels she is neglecting her older daughter.
Bella is trying to hide her heartbreak from anyone, as she is still trying to digest that her husband asked for a separation, even if she believed that the marriage was one filled with love.
So now young Lara has made it her mission to bring joy into everyone’s life. Will she manage to put a smile on everyone’s face once again?

I have to admit, even if this book is the third part of a series, this is the first one I read of it. And I was bit scared that it would be a little bit difficult to catch up with each character, or just to understand everything that was going on.

But I shouldn’t have worried, because it can be perfectly read as a standalone, and if more information should be required, we get all the info we need!

It was sweet to see many different characters, with a different background, at a different stage in their lives. Yet despite their differences, their lives are somehow all entwined, with the school and all its activities and teachers and students as the main setting.

And one little girl with a special purpose this Christmas!

I cannot say which story I liked the best, the most, because that would be an impossible choice. Susan Buchanan made each character so lovable, likeable, but also with a some kind of layer of sadness over them.
Whether it is a man with a new position but with feelings of guilt, or a woman losing her calm with twins, each and every one of the characters has something over them.
And even if their own situation is far from my own, again, each and every one of them had something that made it so relatable, recognizable.

There are several heartbreaking moments in this book, but they all evaporate with the presence of all the warmth, love and kindness in this book. Christmas is always a special period of the year, but that is not the only magic in this book. Because all the characters have such a kind, generous heart. And no matter what is going on their own lives, they always are there to offer a helping hand, to be there for the community.

I absolutely enjoyed reading this Christmas book, with a wonderful layer of magic, mixed with many drool – worthy cupcakes, hot chocolates that I wanted to devour myself. But the heart of the story was exactly that, the heart. Susan Buchanan shows us with this great story what Christmas is about, but most important, what love in all its facets is about. There were several moments that made myy heart melt, for several reasons, yet once again showing us the power of love, the magic of Christmas.

If you are in need of a perfect Christmas book, go ahead, pick this one up. I assure you that you won’t regret it for even one moment!

I have officially started my Christmas book stack with a feel-good, cozy holiday hallmark-movie-esque type book.

In a quaint small town during the Christmas season, this story surrounds multiple characters, each with their own set of obstacles to overcome. Their unique stories all start to intertwine in the most serendipitous ways, creating lasting friendships and even life changing moments for some.

I love it when books are centered around cafes and reading. This particular book has both of those and even includes one of my favorite holiday traditions, Jolabokaflod – an Icelandic Christmas tradition that involves exchanging new books as gifts and reading them together on Christmas Eve – which of course takes place in the towns beloved Sugar & Spice Cafe.

I loved getting to know each character, rooting for them to tackle their challenges, hoping for relationships to blossom, and delighting in the joy they continuously brought each other from beginning to end.

This is exactly what I crave in a Christmas novel. Perfect for a warm beverage, a soft blanket, and a crackling fireplace to ring in the holiday season.

Such an amazing and uplifting Christmas story set in a gorgeous community.
A clever structure sees us following several characters in the lead up to Christmas, some are struggling with unexpected events in their lives and others are facing a lonely festive season.
A sprinkling of magic sees some wonderful new opportunities created for the characters and I was so invested in finding out their outcomes.
I really felt for Bella, facing Christmas alone but having to act happy for her pupils. Fraser the new headmaster is also dreading Christmas, the guilt of his mum being in a home has caused him to be withdrawn from life. An overwhelmed new mum, Valerie is desperate for help with her twins and to share the load with her husband. Finally Paul is struggling to make his wife understand why he doesn’t want to retire just yet.
I enjoyed how these individual stories intertwined with each other, and came to a perfect resolution by the end of the book.
Lots of fantastic festive feel good moments made this glorious books sparkle with Christmas spirit.

I'm reviewing this as part of a tour with Rachel's Random Resources.

When I first started reading this, I took an immediate liking to some of the characters, and their interactions made me smile. I really liked the atmosphere, as it seemed that all of the characters supported and cared for each other.

I liked all of the characters and appreciated them in different ways, but I think that my favourite characters were Bella and Lara. Bella was the character that I connected with the most emotionally, and Lara reminded me of my younger self.

This was easy to read in one sitting, and it was very charming. It was like a mug of hot chocolate - warming, comforting, and ideal for a cosy winter evening.

Thank you to Rachel's Random Resources, and to the author and publisher, for the opportunity to read and review this.

When I first started reading this book, I knew within a few chapters I was really going to enjoy it.

The story is set mainly between the school and The Sugar and Spice Cafe, which are perfect places for friendships to be made and strengthened. I loved the cafe as a central meeting point and the descriptions of Jacob's cakes and drinks are mouthwatering.

I really liked the author's writing style and felt the characters were all so relatable, especially when dealing with the trials of life as we all do. There was some good character development and and I was certainly rooting for some of them.

This is a lovely, feel-good cosy Christmas read with the focus on family, friendship and community spirit.

Thank you Susan Buchanan and Rachel's Random Resources for my copy in exchange for my honest review.

I just loved this story! I am not sure how or why I missed the first two in this series but I will have to make up for that now and go read them asap.

It took me a little while to get to know all the characters in this story as there are quite a lot for such a short story, but once I could keep them all apart I was fully invested in each of their stories and hoping they would all get a wonderful Christmas.

This story really put me in the mood for Christmas. I loved the whole vibe going on at Sugar & Spice and the community feeling.

A gorgeous, gorgeous book! Uplifting and like a warm festive hug.
I want to try some of the delicious cakes at Sugsr and Spice. I want to join in the bookswap on Christmas Eve (notice I didn't attempt the Icelandic name for it)
Many heartwarming moments, but Susan Buchanan does not shy away from everyday problems thrown up in families, relationships or the workplace.
Personally, I am now going to go back and read books 1 and 2.
I loved A Little Christmas Spirit!

I was delighted to revisit Sugar and Spice and meet up with some old favourites, especially Stanley. The lead up to Christmas is a busy and stressful time and everyone needs “ a little Christmas spirit “ to help smooth the way, also cake is a wonderful soother.
Beautifully festive with a sprinkling of magic or was it fairy dust, I wished I could join in with a hot chocolate and sample Jacob’s delectable sounding cakes.

A magical Christmas romance!

This is an absolute page-turner of a Christmas read. From the school choir to sweet treats at Sugar & Spice, all of the ingredients you need are there for a festive novel.
I loved the community aspect of this book and the possibilities for romance between the main characters, that grew as the story progressed. Full of family, fun and love. Lots of misunderstandings and relationship struggles too. An absolute gem of a book! Recommended reading.

What a lovely light hearted Christmas read. A whole village of characters and a new comer to the mix, can everyone have their happy ever after, well with a little Christmas spirit it might just be possible. I love the authors books, beautifully written and I always feel myself submerged in to the story almost as if I’m there and a part of it all.

I had no idea when I started reading that it was the third in the Christmas Spirit series, so I'm going to be playing catch up with the first books.

Buchanan has encapsulated everything christmas into this perfect little package that I couldn't wait to unwrap and get stuck into.

With tradition, turkey and tinsel in abundance and a liberal sprinkling of festive magic, A Little Christmas Spirit was an absolute delight to read and left me with all the festive feels.

OK. This is a typical Christmas book, nothing unusual, just feel good with bits of romance. I didn’t realise it was in a series and I think I missed out on some of the subtleties. There are no real twists it is all very predictable. Overall it is ok, but nothing special, I would just about recommend it.

My first (of many) Christmas books this year, and what a brilliant book to start with.
An interesting mix of characters, a welcoming coffee shop, a great storyline that develops throughout the book, and of course, a touch of Christmas magic.

This cozy Christmas romance, A Little Christmas Spirit, takes place in a charming Scottish village. Through gentle romance, community warmth, and characters regaining hope, Susan Buchanan shows the season’s quieter magic.

The story’s pace is easy and comforting, with a strong setting and relatable characters. It skips the big drama and goes for those little, emotional connections, which makes the story seem so genuine.

If you’re looking for a warm, feel-good Christmas story, this is it!

I was fortunate to receive a copy of this ARC from Rachel's Random Resources.

I didn't realise this was part of a series until the end, but it didn't affect my enjoyment at all.

Subtely magical, I found this a heartwarming story of people brought together through a school and cafe to find Christmas spirit, even in adulthood.

My favourite quote:
"She didn't have bags under her eyes, she had Santa sacks......but without the presents."

I found this to be a delightful Christmas read that’s full with so many lovely characters. Although the third book in a series this can easily be read as a standalone. Each of the main characters has a reason for finding this particular Christmas a challenge. They include Fraser who is currently the head at the local primary school covering maternity leave, Bella who is heartbroken at the prospect of her marriage possibly ending, Valerie who is juggling newborn twins, a nine year old and everything else! In the centre of all this is Lara the niece of Sugar and Spice part owner Jacob. Can she help them all rediscover themselves, their love of Christmas and reconnect with those they love.
