Following an unsuspected night of passion with a series of men, Seven is left reeling and quickly discovers that everyone’s actions have lasting consequences.
She finds herself attempting to navigate what a life intertwined with three men looks like and with Kenji’s strained familial relationships, Gael’s daunting past and Tryp’s long term girlfriend, their effortless night of fun is quickly forgotten as they all grapple with if their one night stand can truly lead to a happily ever after.
I expected this story to expand on who they were from the sexy novella. However, this book had so much ambiguity....I don't like when there are no descriptors and it feels like you can interchange them with any race. First the names of the characters...Seven, Kenji, Tryp, Gael, and Kass. I'm not opposed to trying new things, but most of these names don't give black. Second in 400+ pages there isn't one description of what the characters look like...I literally couldn't picture any of them and that doesn't make me want to hold on to the characters. All she stated was the women were beautiful and the men were fine 🥴 Please try again and utilize descriptors like mahogany brown skin, hour glass figure, big curly Afro, ceaser with deep waves, muscular build etc. There is no way we shouldn't be clear on what they looked like. Third..use slang, sayings, or indicators that relate to your target audience. It was Christmas and that was a perfect opportunity to insert Mariah Carey's All I want for Christmas or cook greens, sweet potatoes pie etc. A big miss to be clear on WHO they were. Instead all we got was random use of the N word which was irritating.
The story itself was okay. Seven was inserted to shake up the lives of four friends and she did that unknowingly. There were a lot of themes throughout...survival of child abuse, unhealthy parental relationships, and lots of unhinged behavior. This was full blown polyamory with the five friends agreeing to "share" each other. You get to witness the progression in their relationships over time.
P.S. I felt like Seven had fake beef with Kenji. She was always ready to leave because he was acting out, but was okay with Gael cutting her? Chile please🤷🏾♀️
4.5 There were things I loved and things I sort of didn’t. Like Tryp and Kass I don’t feel like they added anything to the story in terms of their dynamic with Seven. I think the friendship, the conversation, and the support could have been done without adding them to the dynamic smexually. Because most of the time it fell a little flat for me and they got very little development on page with her and since she’s the FMC that was a little distracting. But they were still good supporting characters and helped advance the story at times. But BAYBEE Seven, Gael, and Kenji I loved absolutely every moment of that. It was reminiscent of Bear, Kimber, and Ren which I loved! Bash does such a good job with the personalities of her characters and how they compliment their partner or partners. And the way Gael and Kenji held each other accountable for how they moved with Seven and how they allowed her to express and explore different sides of her was so enjoyable. I would have liked to see a little more on page development in Kenji and how he moved to a place of understanding that Gael was his equal but at least it was there. The dirty talk and spice were exceptional and the scene with Seven and Gael and the “hot pocket” 😮💨😮💨 As usual Bash owes me nothing and I’m looking forward to all the wonderful stories she will contribute to this sub genre.
“Who You Belong To” blew me away! When I read You Hide, I’ll Seek, it ended in a way that made me want more of this crew, and by the end, I felt like I had closure. There was never a dull moment; it was creativity at its finest. ML dove deeper into the character's background by showing the “why” behind their behaviors. She highlighted the family they cultivated and how they made their arrangement work. I loved the emphasis on setting boundaries, open communication, and creating a circle of trust, which are keys to a poly relationship. I think Seven was the missing piece for the crew. Granted, Kenji was obsessed with her for years, but so was everyone else. My favorite character was Gael. There’s something about a grumpy character realizing that he loves his sunshine that does it for me!! And Gael was HIM! The things he did to Seven - pure filth! And not one to be upstaged by Gael, Kenji unlocked a different level of unhinged that shocked me, lol! Who You Belong To was a refreshing, creative, and descriptive read, and the door was open! It was SPICY! Wow! ML continues to blow me away by introducing me to themes and tropes that push me out of my comfort zone. I would recommend it. Get into the 1812 crew!
I won't rate this book because it wouldn't be fair. This is the book where I realized I like spice, not smut. If you enjoy smut and poly relationships then you'll love this one. The writing was solid and the characters well layered.
After reading the novella You Hide I’ll Seek (twice), I could barely contain my excitement when ML Bash announced the continuation to the novella. If you’re looking for a book that’s spicy and adventurous filled with polyamorous relationships, complex characters and found family dynamics, check this one out.
Kenji made an impression on me and I wanted to see if it was going to stick. Let’s just say I didn’t know whether to mad at the man or root for him to get Seven on board. The saying, “if he wanted to, he will”, will always stick when it comes to Kenji.
Seven made my head spin right along with hers. Not only was she navigating new relationships but also a surprise she wasn’t expecting. The girl just wanted a night of fun and it turned into more. The difference in her relationship between Kenji and Gael is evident and I like that. It would’ve been boring if it was all the same. Gael revealing his secret to Seven almost broke me and the scene between him and Kenji had me lost for words. For some people, you don’t come back from that.
Kass and Tyrp were the chillest characters to me. Their relationship and the boundaries of their relationship have already been established but there was one moment. I sense a bit of jealousy coming from Kass and she had every right because that wasn’t part of the agreement.
I enjoy a "why choose" romance, but in this tale, the characters needed to choose which asylum they’d prefer—Arkham or the one Michael Myers kept escaping from. This was a long, tumultuous, and at times childish ride. There was so much freaking and frolicking that it never felt like any of the characters really got to know each other. Seven gets thrown into a freak match of the century and is just expected to deal with it. Kenji was the worst of the trio, and I wish he would’ve been folded like a futon just once. He bullied Seven into the relationship, acting as if she wanted to be taken on dates and treated like a normal girl was so outlandish. Like sure she bussed it wide for you and the gang but she’s still a LADY lol I get why he wouldn’t want to, but come on—after hooking up with his brother’s ex, her wanting to date and be romanced shouldn’t be too much to ask. Sir, you have two boyfriends and another girl; please have some decorum.
Kenji’s personality and mental struggles were annoying; all he did was freak on Seven and fight. He contributed six hours of accounting work through this entire novel yet was tussling every three chapters. While I understand his trauma from watching his mother die, his focus on the new wife and Korbin was distracting. He had a chance to sit down with his dad and learn the truth but never explains his hurt from being left as the caretaker. He seemed more upset about the shady behavior of adults in relationships that didn’t involve him. I get that he felt his mom had been disrespected, but the resolution felt weak. He was a terrible friend; his relationship with Gael was trash. In all his relationships, he was the bully, and everyone else just fell in line because that was the dynamic they were used to. I also hated that because Gael wasn’t always crying and fighting, Kenji minimized his trauma. Your “friend” shouldn’t have to tell you he was raped, battered, and bruised for the highest bidder for you to show some compassion.
Gael was the bright spot in this book for me. I’m glad Seven put in the effort to understand him. She was dedicated and, at times, foolish, but she loved him. Should he have pushed her? Absolutely not. But what about a grown man, fully clothed in a freezing shower, tells you to try and lock your arms around him after he shouts "LET GO" the first time? Come on, use your brain. Gael was the only one who really considered Seven and listened to her. I’m glad at least one of them went to therapy, but I feel he should’ve left after Kenji attacked him. He owed Kenji a punch or something; there’s no way. Kenji was like a raging bull, when all he needed to do was calm down and listen. It becomes clear that Seven has an aversion to violence, yet the man who “loves” her exposes her to it in great quantities.
Overall, the spice was good, but the author included way too much trauma and sexual violence, making the sex seem misplaced and unnecessary at times. While I know everyone responds to harm differently, this story felt more like a spooky cautionary tale than a freaky all you can MEAT buffet.
first of all I can’t tell if these characters are black or what and the use of the “N” word is throwing me off badly🙃🙃🙃.
I’ve recently read a good amount of “why choose/poly” books (one from this author) but this book just was NOT doing it for me. Kenji is such an unlikable character. He was just insufferable to me. Usually in these types of books there is a clear indicator of deep love and respect between all parties involved. However, in this book it seems as though Kenji is the “leader” and what he says goes. He literally talks to them like trash and treats them like they are his workers. It does not give relationship at all between all parties.
I was told I’m not supposed to choose a favorite in a why choose book but I can’t help it. I’m #TeamGael over here and I am sad with the outcome of this book 🥴 Lol. I wanted him to win and I feel like he didn’t.
I enjoyed the story. The surprise that happens at 25ish% had me like whoa! Already?! Okay. I guess we’re doing this. I wanted more with Tryp and Kass. At times they felt like background characters who were on the outside looking in.
After reading the Halloween novella, I’m glad my girl Seven developed a voice because she was so silent in that book and it bothered me 😂
I loved watching Seven and Gael fall in love. Sorry yall, they were my faves! 🥰
3.5⭐️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Check the trigger warnings. Pretty good poly romance/ why choose. It was just a little bit too long. I felt like it could’ve been wrapped up quicker.
4.25 🌟 I love me a good why choose romance novel, and this one did NOT disappoint!!! There were so many elements of this story that I loved, and after reading the short erotica/novella “You Hide I'll Seek”, I needed more of these characters and I'm glad ML Bash delivered in this full-length novel with a continuation of that story. Great plot twists, amazing storyline, extra spicy spice, realistic dialogue, likeable/lovable characters... YAS!
First of all, I did NOT expect Gael to be my favorite of the MMC, but he was and I just wanted to give him a long, tight hug (amongst other things) once we learned more of his backstory. His sexual preferences made so much more sense, and the way he softened with Seven just gave me all the feels! Without spoiling anything, I'm happy with the outcome of this relationship dynamic.
Kenji was completely unhinged, and even though it wasn't as justified as Gael's unhinged-ness, I was still livin' for it with all of Kenji's unfiltered dialogue and “touch her & die” energy from beginning to end! Kenji was a man with his mind, heart and soul set on Seven, and he kept that same energy throughout the entirety of this story; I have no complaints about that at all.
Both Gael and Kenji were my kinda men, and I was living vicariously through Seven; next lifetime may I please be in Seven's shoes, basking in all this BDE!!! 😩👏🏾 The entire cast of characters was enjoyable, but I honestly couldn't rate this any higher because I had a hard time picturing these characters without vivid descriptions of any of them tbh, but I was never confused about who's POV I was reading because they were all very distinct characters.
If I ramble on about this book any longer, I know I'm going to spoil something... So just read it for yourself, and maybe you'll fall in love with Gael and/or Kenji the way I did. I AM OFFICIALLY A ML BASH FAN!!! You understood the assignment ma'am and delivered!
Overall, I enjoyed this book and getting to know these characters further. It was a bit overwhelming and startling at times, but was a good read nonetheless.
Seven- baby girl picked and chose when to have a backbone and it was a smidge frustrating. So letting that man bully you! Also, I didn’t fully buy her commitment to 1812 at times, one person in particular, so how things ended up happening didn’t fit with how I thought it would’ve.
Gael- MVP. He ended up being what I thought Kenji would be. My man had some really serious shit he was dealing with, but he was good about taking accountability for his actions. I honestly wanted could’ve just taken Gael and Seven and left the rest of them👀 I was rooting for him to get to a place where he chose to heal himself and he did (side note: massive trigger warnings for Gael’s history. Proceed with caution)
Kenji- I started out thinking he’d be another one of my unhinged book baes, but he ended up being just straight up not well. The bullying and manipulation he did went way beyond even my morally grey standards to the point where I was wondering how this was truly going to pan out. You can see Seven and Gael‘s growth throughout the book, but Kenji had none and somehow still managed to get everything he wanted.
Tryp & Kass- they are getting grouped together because we don’t learn a whole lot about them and to be honest, they were more background characters who got a little extra spotlight because they were in closer proximity to our true MCs. It was nice to get the perspective of their relationship and learn about their dynamic, but I could’ve done without them🤷🏾♀️
The spice was spicing, but surprisingly not as hot as I thought it would be; I definitely learned some things, but wanted a bit more.
I liked how this book picked up right where You Hide I'll Seek left off. Now there is a trigger warning at the beginning of the book and while I am not generally triggered when I read books, there were definitely some scenes that I was not ready for. I thought I had read some things before but the kinks in this one were on a different level and there were some intense scenes both in and out the bedroom. Overall I did enjoy the book and because it was a why choose I knew i would not get the happily ever after that I generally look for in a romance. I did appreciate how the whole story came together though and kinda full circle from where it started in the first book.
This book was WILD! First I was team Kenji after reading You Hide I’ll Seek. But now I’m team Kenji & Gael! I can’t choose! Like Seven, I want them both! I’ve never had an interest in Poly books, but it’s safe to say this may be my new favorite trope.
Did anyone else realize that the damsel in distress or the person who needed saving was not Seven it was Gael? Being a recovered lover of projects, LOL this man was a beautiful masterpiece of a project. I completely understood her love for him and how she felt for him. I could understand why she did not mind being ruined in his world because she realized she was also the undoing to his trauma and the healer. There was never a dull moment in this book.
I loved that even though there was trauma, the author still highlighted setting boundaries, creating solid trust, but also the importance of how to communicate. Seven was the missing piece of the puzzle. But did Kenji really deserve her or was he just entitled and obsessed? I love a good project lol so Gael was my favorite duhhhhh. Like yes it was a why choose, but Gael was the better pick. He was actually loving, caring, attentive, wanted to be the FATHER and unlocked new levels in Seven. Kenji was a brat and kept crashing out. The other two characters were cool. I enjoyed the 1812 family lol it was Gael for me.
Listen this book was hot 🔥 as all get out, I had a work conference and the drive was 2 hours there and 2 hours back... I needed new panties when I arrived at this damn meeting...had that pearl thumping ..my gosh
We first met Seven in the Halloween Novella You Hide, I'll Seek. That follows her running into her cheating ex boyfriend's step brother and his friends. It's a quick fantastic read and you should most definitely read it because it's just everything.
So, I found out there was a follow up story. I looked it up thinking it was going to be another novella. No, this book is 400+ pages and you best believe I read every single page like it was my job.
In, You Hide, I'll Seek our girl is chased down in the woods and fked every which way by Kenji (the stepbrother) and then he and his friends share her in a house of mirrors (one is wearing a fucked-up clown mask!). So again, I went into THIS book thinking it was going to be non-stop smut.
Nope this is a full-on love story. Kenji is super intense and a bit unhinged. He has touch her and die energy and a bit of a stalker tendency. But he's not the only love interest.
Tryp, his one friend that partook in the group activities is in an open relationship with Kassani who is bisexual. And the two of them are VERY excited to bring our girl into the fold.
And last but not least Gael... I love me an emotionally unavailable, MMC with a damaged/tragic backstory that leads to him being super aggressive in bed. (sigh... only fictional men though in irl I'd say boy get help)
This story follows Seven getting her back blown out by all, catching feelings, and navigating the complicated emotions and consequences of hooking up with your ex's (step) brother and his friends then joining the little poly cue they got going on.
Did I mention they all together too??
This was a fantastic read. I ate it up. I will recommend this EVERY time someone asks about a why choose rec.
Reading this after reading the novella “I’ll hide you Seek” was mind blowing. In the novella we meet Kenji,Seven, Tyra, and Gael. I honestly thought the story ended with the novella but when I was told the story continued in this book I had to read to find out more about these characters and this dynamic. I will say this story is spicy….and I mean spicy so have your glass of water nearby as you read. Seven our FMC has basically been claimed by Kenji after he has determined after meeting Seven years ago, she was his future wife. Kenji was willing to do whatever it took to have Seven.
Kenji and his two best friends ,Gael and Tyrp.are also use to sharing their women with each other. Yes all three guys share the women they are dating or having sex with. Seven has never experienced this but isn’t afraid to dive head first into their world. Thankfully this leads to Seven being loved completely by all three men and Kass….who is Kass? Well I have to leave something’s for you to read about.
All of this love and sex leads to an announcement the group is shocked by. As they all digest this news we find out how this group came to be. Also you’ll find that each guy has a dark past and they are all express their love different. One thing is for sure though this group of friends turned family love each other the best they know how.
This story was spicy….like i said above but the true story aside from the sex is what really pulls you in and allows you to fall in love with this characters. M.L. Bash you need your thing on this series and I cant wait to consume more of your work.
Content Warning: - Child sexual abuse & trafficking (off one reference to part traumas) - Blood and spit play - Breathe play - Knife play
It was good to get an extended novel after that crazy novella. I liked getting more of each character’s story and their poly dynamics. “Why choose” poly dynamics are not at the very top of my list of favorite tropes, so I need them to be done very well to enjoy them. One important thing to me is that there is open communication and explicit discussions of boundaries, so it doesn’t reinforce stereotypes of poly relationships being unserious and just a free for all. This book gave that; they had many check ins about how their many relationships would work.
Kenji as the first/primary MMC was problematic. His last manipulative stunt did not lend well with me at all; what he did affected not only her, but her friend as well. He’s just too selfish. He was unhinged in a way that felt more obsession with a possession than actual love. To the point that I didn’t trust the result of the test being that he’s the one who read it.
Gael was interesting. Deeply disturbed, but his character growth was at least that, growth.
Tryp & Kass were there.
As a general note, this book (let’s start with these character names and the woman on the covers), seems intentionally written to be mostly racially neutral. While book one describes Black-ish features in the characters and they love using the n-word, nothing else gave Black. I had to remind myself that these weren’t White characters saying the n-word.
Per usual Bash didn’t miss. who you belong to another Banger!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Okay, so you already know if you didn’t read the novella you hide I seek ( Halloween erotica) . You might as well START there first cause I meannnn what you doing skipping. 😒
The character growth , the fact we got to see each character in a different light learn more and really really get a overview of why the are the way they are .. much needed!!! ML bash did a great job 👏🏽
1812 they all were perfect for one another it’s didn’t make no sense and Amir added to the equation just Omg!!!!! The way it was no jealousy just loving , and riding , going over and beyond in whatever fashion that could be. They loved each other down! EASYYY!
So at first I thought it was Kenji for me yes I still like him. But Gaelllll, was everything in this book all scene fireeeee🔥 the way Seven slowly pulled at heart man just beautiful to see him unfold in ways you didn’t think he would . So yeaaaa I like them all. But Gael took the cake!!!!
And Kass & Tryp like no another .
Cienna is a doll.
Just read so good!!!!!! And whole a lot of spiceeeeee! At this point you know Ml bash gone eat it up!!
Favorite scenes . 🗡️🩸💦 I almost lost my mind.. I had to keep re reading cause whaaaa????!!! Whew! So Hot!!!!! A lot of pausing!!!
You know what…maybe I wasn’t ready for this to be a full story? I loved the darkness, outrage and smuttiness of “You Hide, I’ll Seek”, but I was not liking Kenji too much after this. Seven was spoiled, but it was more of a “forced” spoiled instead of the princess treatment I thought she’d get from Kenji specifically. Really needed Kenji to see that lady and get this trauma in order, would have been better for future family and his long term situation with Seven and the guys.
Gael was my favorite in the first book and I feel redeemed! His character experienced real growth and honestly I feel like that made Kenji look even worse in my eyes, like why you give Gael such a hard time like he wasn’t severely traumatized? Because you took him in? Yeah…anyway, he was the only one that seemed to get Seven personally and later intimately. Tryp was just kinda…there. Kass was there too, definitely would have loved more Seven and Kass one on one time.
Idk the book felt like a lot of broken souls who swarmed around this beautiful flower named Seven. But if we consider this a dark romance then, tbh it was on brand. I did love the filth and the fact this was a “why choose” story. I’m always here for the extra nastiness ML Bash throws in.
I do agree with one reviewer that I needed more descriptors of the characters placed in this book. I felt like I couldn’t really “see” them.
This novel is a continuation of "You Hide, I'll Seek" so make sure you read that Halloween short before diving into book 2. I was happy that there was a full book because after the novella I wanted more. This is a polygamous/ why choose. you get the dynamic of 5 characters, and basically 3 different relationships. You have the FMC Seven, the possessive MMC Kenji and his 2 best friends Tryp and Gael. Tryp is also in a relationship with Kass.
This book took me through different emotions and feelings. First, I love the way Seven told Kenji he needed to date her, coming off the Halloween party which he did, and I felt like i got to see him soften a little bit.
Gael was the standoffish one with great reason, and it was heartbreaking to read all he has been through. This book does have some kinks that you might not be used to so definitely check the triggers. As the story progress Gael became my favorite. The intimacy and his love language I wish I had an entire book on Gael.
Tryp was pretty chill, and I loved his friendship with Seven as well as his relationship with Kass.
Kenji definitely annoyed me with that last situation he pulled with Seven's place, and thereful I almost didn't want him to have that HEA. Like you really did have to do that to have her, and that made me not care for him after that. Overall, I enjoyed the story, and while its a why choose I would take Gael any day lmao
