Big, Bad Alien features Finnar, alien and Scarlett, human. This is a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, where the alien wolf shifter abducts red riding hood.

This was bonkers. The break neck speed of the book contributed to the crazy. The entire story took place in basically a week. Sure sure. Finnar goes from wanting revenge and to kill Scarlett to declaring her his mate in less than three days. Cool. Scarlett accepts being kidnapped with a “at least he’s sexy” and, although the woods are incredibly dangerous, all spicy times happen outside in the woods. Makes sense.

Overall, I started and finished in one evening and was throughly entertained, although I’m not sure if it was actually good, you know?

“Didn’t anyone warm you to stay out of my woods ? .”

Punto.

Recomendado solo cuando quieras descansar, sino búscate otra novela.

3.5 stars, rounded up.

Nothing new, but it was still a fun read and I'd recommend it to folks looking for a shifter and/or alien romance palette cleanser. The best parts were the direct correlations to Little Red Riding Hood.

The truth he'd tried to fight crashed over him with absolute certainty. It didn't matter that she was human. She was his mate. The one person in all the world meant for him alone.

4.25 stars

This story was such a sexy and heartbreaking ride. Both Finnar and Scarlett were lonely souls desperate for a connection when they stumbled upon each other in the woods. The sexual tension and unwanted attraction between them burned instantly, but Finnar's traumatic past kept him from accepting the mate bond. I loved how patient and accepting Scarlett was towards Finnar; it took him a while to claim her, but his protective instincts flourished from their first meeting. Scarlett's kind nature was the perfect balm for Finnar's hardened soul, and they complimented each other so beautifully. I cannot wait to continue this series🖤

Tropes: fated mates, hate-to-love-you, jaded obsessed hero, lonely heroine, grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity, touch her and die, Little Red Riding hood retelling, captive heroine, knotting, primal play, found family, STEAMY🔥

This alien little red riding hood retelling was everything! What can I say, sometimes you just need some growling and primal play.... Jokes aside this was such a fun and steamy quick read with just the right balance of smut and plot, meaning little plotline and lots of insta-lust.

DNF @ 28%.

boring. no chemistry between the H and h. all their interactions so far consist of the hero catching the heroine because she trips on something (which she does, like, 5 times, wtf??) and the heroine doing the hero's dishes (like she's his mom and he's 7yo?). nothing romantic about this. they don't even talk to each other.

Had to DNF 😔 it just couldn’t hold my interest, I tried so hard to power through but only made it 35% through the book. I just felt like the fmc and mmc didn’t have any chemistry whatsoever and overall, it was just lacking for me.

Great sci fi romance

I'm glad Finnar got his happily ever after, and Scarlett is a lovely character. Grandmother has secrets. Seren deserves a HEA also.

Well. It was an interesting idea. But it would have been nice if there had been a proper plot. I was lightly entertained, but I don't think I will bother to buy the next novel.

4&1\2 fabulous🌟's for Big Bad Alien💖🔥🌟

We have returned to Cresca where our favorite band of alien soldier brothers found their perfect human mates. We've seen the. Vultor in previous books but now they have their very own stories. Finnar is a very angry Viewer Vultor and for good reason. A horrible tragedy befell he and his family at the hands of humans and he's has a hatred of them ever since. But when he meets Scarlett in the forest his brain desires that maybe not all humans are bad. Scarlett live in the village, and is a weaver making beauty with every pass of her hand over her loom. She decides to walk through the forest so that she can make good time to go see her grandmother. What she gets is a big bad shmexy Vultor that decides she's his. Finnar, has to make peace with his past and realize not all humans are awful and Scarlett needs to accept Finnar for who he is and love him for those differences not in spite of them.. This is a story of healing , acceptance and the power of love! So terrific ANF if ant wait to see what happens next in the series. Highly recommend!🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🔥🌟💖🌟🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥🌟💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🔥🌟💖🌟🔥💖🔥🌟💖🌟🔥

Big, Bad Alien is a Red Riding Hood telling set in space where our Red Riding Hood (Scarlett) is on her way to her grandmother's house in the woods when the big, bad wolf alien intercepts her. Finnar wants revenge for the death of his family and he doesn't care which human has to die for it because they're the enemy in his opinion. Until he meets Scarlett in his woods and his scent intrigues him, his beast calls her mate, and he doesn't know what to do.

✧・゚: *✧・゚:*

Big, Bad Alien is a quick read (roughly over 200 pages) that's loosely based on the Red Hiding Hood story. While Finnar is a shifter alien (loosely wolf-inspired), the story leaves the known fairytale when Finnar stumbles upon Scarlett in the forest. Instead of bouncing ahead to hurt her grandmother, he leads Scarlett into his den because he wants to take revenge on her for what happened to his family. Here, he makes her his servant and she cleans his den, cooks for him, ... and they fantasize about each other.

Unfortunately for me, the book lacks an actual plot and any chemistry between the two main characters. Scarlett was a sassy, confident young woman until she meets Finnar and then turns into a maid that constantly stumbles upon every root and stone. Finnar struggles with his feelings (revenge, being intrigued, ...) and his own beast. The extremely short book means that their relationship is based on instant lust/the fated mates trope, which results in no actual relationship development. Why do they want to be with each other if they wouldn't be mates? Beats me. But as soon as he saves her from some wild animal, she is ready to fuck him (despite being a virgin and telling him earlier to take it slow) and becomes his mate very quickly afterwards. There's a short tension point when the hunter makes his appearance but that's settled very quickly as well.

If you want a quick alien romance palate cleanser: go for it. There are a few sex scenes (with knotting) and the book took me ~3 hours to read. If you want an alien romance with some actual worldbuilding and/or substance: skip it. The author teases at some worldbuilding points but doesn't introduce them in-depth, so they're meaningless and useless to the reader.

I won't continue with the rest of the series.

✧・゚: *✧・゚:*

TWs & CWs: primal play, sexual content, knotting, blood, injury, fantasy racism, pregnancy mention, death of family (mentioned, in the past)

Trope(s): fated mates, soft enemies-to-lovers

Genre: fairytale retelling, alien romance, paranormal romance

“And you be careful out there.” Tessa gestured at her cloak. “That color might attract attention.”
“From what? A fashion-conscious monster?” She picked up her basket and grinned at her friend. “The worst thing in those woods is probably my grandmother’s cooking.”

I loved this book. I've always loved fairy tale retellings, and Little Red Riding Hood isn't one I come across often. But if anyone can make it into an alien romance- and make me fall in love with it- is Honey Phillips! Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Scarlett and Finnar. I was very drawn to Finn and could understand his rage against the humans who killed his family. But his loneliness and the walls between him and his pack made me sad.

'His need for vengeance warred with the compulsion to obey his alpha’s orders and he finally gave way to a frustrated howl. But when it emerged, it was marked more by loneliness than rage. He had no one. His family was gone, torn away from him by human scum, and it had become clear over the winter that his pack didn’t trust him.'

Scarlett knew of the Vultor and the settlements they lived in away from the humans- who thought them violent monsters. But when she came face-to-face with Finnar, though being afraid, she was brave, spoke levelly, and didn't cower or let him deter her from continuing on the path to visit her grandmother. I like that she also recognized his bitterness over losing family.

'Her heart hammered against her ribs as she stared up at him. She should be afraid— and she was— but there was something exhilarating about their encounter.'

I loved the pull and connection between them. I also thought it was cute how he told her he would escort her. I like the cute, grumpy nonchalance as a mask to disguise him keeping her safe.

“Then since I’m not in the mood to find your corpse in my territory later, I’ll escort you to wherever you’re going. The sooner you’re out of these woods, the better.”

'She bit back a smile. His obvious annoyance at her attempts at conversation only made her want to prod him more. There was something oddly entertaining about trying to crack that stoic facade.'

I was completely charmed by these two, their journey together, and falling in love. A fantastic start to a new series! I am so excited for Alien Huntsman and Tessa's story! 5 stars

🔥 “Do you know what happens when you run from a predator?”
~~~
Scarlett is so wonderful! She’s kind, caring, compassionate, understanding and hardworking. Even more, I loved her curiosity and courage to face the unknown. Scarlett’s heart is so big and I adored her optimistic and sunshiny personality. She’s absolutely amazing and I loved her so, so much!
And then, there’s Finnar - a snarly and very, very angry Vultor! Finnar is dangerous, lethal, growly and hell-bent on revenge against humans after they took everything from him. He’s a predator through and through. But there’s more to the huge alien than meets the eye. Because Finnar is strong, considerate, charming, fiercely protective and just a cinnamon roll under all the hard exterior. Finnar is an incredible male and I couldn’t help but adore every single thing about him!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Scarlett and Finnar! Scarlett is on her way to her grandmother’s house when she encounters one of the most dangerous aliens in the woods - a Vultor. And the moment Finnar scents the young woman in his territory, he decides she’ll be the perfect target to enact his revenge. But nothing goes according to plan… I absolutely loved those two together! From the moment they met, strange feelings awakened in both, but neither was willing to admit it. And their banters and bickerings were such a delight to read. Finnar and Scarlett were as different as night and day, and yet, their personalities fit so well together. I loved that Scarlett saw through Finnar’s snarly exterior to discover the wonderful, but hurting, male he is. And the more time they spent together, the more Finnar couldn’t deny his attraction to the sweet and smiley human. And when they finally gave into the undeniable attraction, the passionate moments they shared were so hot. What can I say… Vultors do see you better, hear you better and… eat you better! 😏️ Scarlett and Finnar’s relationship might change everything for both humans and Vultors, but they were absolutely perfect for each other and I couldn’t get enough of either of them!
Overall, the story is a fantastic start of the series! It’s a wonderful, fun, adventurous and delightfully naughty Little Red Riding Hood retelling with grumpy/sunshine vibes and I absolutely loved every page of it!
Big, Bad Alien is a fairytale gone wild, wildly good, from an author who really knows how to apply a few twists to a childhood story and bring it into the adult realm.
In this case Little Red Riding Hood gets an upgrade into a wonderful Sci-Fi Romance and is book one of Alien Wolf Tales.
MFC Scarlett is feeling restless one day and decides to visit her grandmother whom she hasn’t spoken to in a month. So with a basket of tea and pastries she sets off through the woods.
Scarlett makes a choice to take a shorter route to grandma’s rather than stay on the main road and herein lies her tale.
I just love how author Honey Phillips puts these fairytale wonders together, so imaginative, spicy, romantic, emotional, intriguing, and executed to perfection.
It isn’t long in her journey before our intrepid heroine hears a distant howl, a Vultor perhaps?
They too had colonized Cresca along with humans, and not all their interactions had been pleasant ones.
MMC Finnar has lost family to human violence and seeks vengeance, despite his alpha’s warning to stay away from humans, the one he finds in the woods is an opportunity to great to pass up.
Oh, how fate loves to mess with mere mortals and Finnar is about to discover just how much!
With captivating writing, and characters this entertaining story unfolds with humor, danger, a grumpy Vultor who finds an unexpected mate, and a sweet, feisty not so little red finds hers.
Can they make it work?
Readers will surely be immersed in this wonderful story as I was to find out!.
We're back on Cresca where humans and aliens have a bit of an uneasy truce. It's a big planet, but tensions sometimes flare and one of those flares led to the death of Finnar's family. To say he hasn't dealt with his grief or come to terms with losing them might be understating things.
Frankly, the guy is a simmering time bomb. He's snarly, avoids both humans and his own kind, and plots how he can avenge his family. Which is not healthy in any respect.
Then he crosses paths with Scarlett as she heads through the woods to her grandmother's and...well, her presence confuses Finnar. He SHOULD hate her just because she's human, but he finds himself actively working to keep her safe instead. So to counteract his protective side, he whisks her away to his den and vows he's going to force her to stay there and keep house while he figures out what to do with her.
This all sounds bad, but Scarlett isn't really afraid for herself. She's more concerned about how her grandma will worry. Sure, she's not the hugest fan of being held prisoner, but she sees something in Finnar that makes her realize he's a sad, lonely Vultor who hasn't allowed himself to grieve. The fact she's wildly attracted to him even though he'd holding her in his den might help things along on that point.
Anywho. A little danger forces Scarlett and Finnar to admit there might be something between them and THINGS HAPPEN! Throw in a little more danger, some dealing with the past, and a welcoming (-ish) group of Vultor and these two are in their happy place. GOOD TIMES!
I really enjoyed this story and getting to know Finnar better after his brief introduction in Tomlin although it isn't necessary to read that book first and this story is a standalone in a whole new series. This book was so much fun and I loved the way it blended a Fairy Tale Retelling of Little Red Riding Hood with an alien shifter romance so well. Scarlett and Finnar made a really nice couple and I enjoyed getting to know them both. The epilogue at the end was fun and I am really looking forward to continuing this series as it blends two genres I love (Fairy Tale Retelllings and Alien Romances) together so well. The next book Alien Huntsman: An Alien Shifter Romance is supposed to be about Scarlett's friend Tessa & Korrin so I look forward to getting to know them both better and maybe even see more about how Finnar & Scarlett are doing in the future.
I really liked the prequel to this series, Her Alien Farmhand, so I had high hopes for a whole series of Vultor romance. I think this one is hampered by the shorter page count, and (for me) the lack of acknowledgement that the humans are settlers on this alien world. Although I guess after a few generations you'd feel like this is your homeworld, not Earth? But the total reversion to an agrarian lifestyle (as much as I love the weaving!) always throws me off.
The fairy tale element came across a little heavy handed in the beginning, but it faded into the background once Scarlett and Finnar spend more time together. I was confused about the grandmother missing Scarlett, since I thought this was a spontaneous visit, but later there's mention of communication between the two, and between Grandma and town? But they also never mention HOW they're communicating!
The next couple is neatly hinted at, but the focus is squarely on Scarlett and Finnar. She helps him calm down, and come back to himself after grief, and Finnar represents a chance at a more exciting life for Scarlett. In addition to the next couple I'm really interested in what's going on between Soren, the pack leader, and Scarlett's grandmother. Will Grandma get her groove back??
When the big bad wolf is perfect for you
I loved this alien-human, forbidden, fated mates Little Red Riding Hood retelling. It had a good mix of sweet, spicy, and real life issues with a fairy tale soft glossing. Scarlett is a human weaver who lives on the planet Cresca. The Vultor species are the bogey men of human stories. Finnar is a Vultor shifter who also lives on Cresca. He is consumed with rage and the need for vengeance because humans killed his family. They meet when Scarlett travels on the path in the woods to visit her grandmother. After she ends up in Finnar house/den he tells her he is going to keep her forever. Despite Scarlett being a prisoner initially, this is not a dubcon or noncon situation. Finnar and Scarlett’s relationship develops organically without forced intimacy. To get to their HEA, Finnar and Scarlett must deal with their physiological and cultural differences while unpacking lots of baggage and dealing with the animosity between their species. This story was well written and included interesting world building, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline.
Big Bad Alien is part of the Alien Wolf Tale Series by Honey Phillips
First off, I must admit fairytale retellins are not usually my thing.  But, then, I used to think I'd never read an Alien romance either. That all changed when I needed a palate cleanser after some dark story and stumbled on one of Honey Phillips’ books, I have been hooked ever since.  I devour them the minute I can get them.
Big Bad Alien is a wild take on Little Red Riding Hood.  Scarlett is en route to her grandmother's house, of course. When she encounters Finnar a Voltori (whom we met previously in Tomlin's Story). Due to his history with humans, he should hate Scarlett and has even been warned to stay away from them. But as they make their way through the woods and spend more time together, he realizes she may be so much more than his enemy.
I enjoyed this book so much. It was well written,  the chemistry was fantastic, and the plot was imaginative and entertaining. I am already looking forward to the next book in this series.
ARC was provided by Booksprout, and this is my honest review.
I tried to trudge through this but it is too repetitive and slow for me. Also maybe not seductive enough. I love Little Red Riding Hood/Big Bad Wolf stories and was going in open minded but overall expecting a good time from Honey Phillips’ alien retelling.
It was written with accuracy and technically proficient, but the style wasn’t my favorite. There was little suspense and nothing really at stake since we learn it all from dual POV.
The primary offender that made me throw in the towel may not be an issue for others: the overuse of the words SHOULD and SHOULDN’t. Basically the characters were shouldn’ting all over themselves. LOL. He shouldn’t be attracted to her, she is his enemy because of her race. She shouldn’t be having these cozy feelings for her captor…blah blah. Rinse and repeat over and over again. And also, nothing exciting happened and I hung in all the way to 41%.
Maybe next time, Honey!
Big, Bad Alien is a delicious mix of fairytale vibes and paranormal romance, with just the right blend of danger, tenderness, and heat. Scarlett’s journey begins with fear and uncertainty when she encounters Finnar, a Vultor whose reputation should terrify her. Instead, their connection sparks with unexpected intensity, turning what could have been a story of captivity into one of trust, passion, and healing. Finnar is gruff, wounded, and driven by revenge, yet Scarlett draws out the gentleness and longing he buried long ago. I loved how their relationship grew from wary tension into something deeply emotional, with both characters learning to see beyond prejudice and past scars. Honey Phillips has a talent for creating alien heroes who are larger-than-life yet achingly human at heart, and this story captures that perfectly. Sweet, steamy, and heartwarming, Big, Bad Alien is a wonderful standalone that leaves you wanting more from the Alien Wolf Tales world.
Honey Phillips has done it again! While this is a continuation of 7 Brides for 7 Aliens and How the Aliens Won the West series, you do not need to have read these to enjoy this book; you only need to enjoy a twist on the traditional fairy tale. And who doesn’t love that?! Finnar is a Vultar who has been wounded by humans and wants to get revenge. Enter Scarlett on her way to grandmother’s house. Finnar offers to escort her through the forest since the forest is unsafe. At first, he forces her to stay with him but she continues to break down his walls. He doesn’t really want to hurt her or even hold her captive, but they have to learn to work through their differences in order to be together. I found this book to be a page turner and read it in one day. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Cute grumpy/sunshine cottage core story!
It was a cute story, I thought the MCs were cute and I am happy they had a HEA. I appreciated that the FMC wasn't whiny and was calm, happy, and understanding.
It was a really short period of time, within two days they are together, I think it would have been fun if the whole 'Cinderella' will they won't they part was a little longer!
I did notice, especially towards the end, there was a lot of repeating of I guess, phrases (?) happening, such as, she is wearing an outfit and it is mentioned how it hugs her curves about 5 times within 3 pages. It felt like the editing got rushed towards the end. Overall, I truly enjoyed reading this story and living in this world for awhile, I love cottage core books! I am excited to read Tessa's story next!
A nice snack
The book is standard Honey Phillips, and a lot like some snacks: quick, spicy, and sweet. Or like chinese food, satisfying when you pig out, but you're hungry again an hour later. And I've already got ahold of the next book, because they are so addictive!
A few questions crop up that I could not ignore.
(Spoiler warning)
(Mild spoilers)
(You've been warned)
How do Finnar's clothes disappear and reappear after shifting? It goes unexplained. Also, how can two different alien species procreate? Just bugs me. Plus, there's an assault and the guy just gets away with a few bruises? I would've liked him to get more punishment than that! Some typos and errors, plus shallow characters, not to mention the repeated, limited phrases. So, this is like 3.5, but I rounded it down for all the above.
Scarlet and Finnar! I am almost word-less after finishing Big Bad Alien! Based very loosely on Red Riding Hood but with a whole lot more steam. My heart broke when we first met Finnar in Tomlin so I am extremely happy that Honey started this new series about the Vultori with his story. This story was all about love and growth..or how love can cause growth? Scarlet is such a wonderful female lead. Strong but soft and sweet. Finnar is so broken and so fill with rage, he has no room for softness especially for a human. But the heart wants what it wants. This book left me feeling warm and fuzzy. Honey Phillips writes beautiful, damaged characters who inhabit worlds that I would love to see. She draws you into her imagination and fills you with happiness. Loved this book! 5 stars
I love retelling of fairy tales. This one is Little Red Riding Hood. I love the twists throughout the story.
POV of each MC. I loved Scarlett. She sees through the darkness of Finnar.
We are first introduced to Finnar in Tomlin's story (How the Aliens Were Won). He is a troubled soul. I loved how slowly but surely she helped to heal him from his past. I liked the wisdom and patience of Seren (his alpha). I'm hoping his story can be told also.
Of course there is also Grandma's wisdom to help.
The flow was very good . Worldbuilding excellent. You could feel Finnar's frustrations and need for vengeance. This is a standalone story with the prefect HEA .
This fun and spicy sci-fi twist on Little Red Riding Hood introduces a grumpy alien shifter MMC and a sunshine FMC who meet over the river and through the woods, on her way to grandmother’s house, of course.
Finnar, previously featured in Honey Phillips’s How the Alien Were Won (book Tomlin), returns in this spin-off series set on Cresca. He wants to dislike the red-caped human, but she’s just too darn charming. With intriguing shifter dynamics, alpha politics, and a cozy kidnapping romance (don’t worry, she liked it), this story delivers a fresh, engaging retelling.
The shifter alien pack and several side characters set the stage for an exciting series, with hints at what’s to come in future books.
