My life could have been ripped straight from a Hallmark movie.

My name is Caroline "Candy" Cane, I own a country inn, date a man who runs a Christmas tree farm, and my mom's peppermint fudge wins first place at the Reindeer Corners' festival every year. Basically, I'm living every romance-loving girlie's small town dream.

Until a last minute trip to New York City leads to catching my boyfriend banging a Rockette (in full elf costume).

So, when I'm offered a chance to star in a hospitality-themed reality show, I jump at the chance to serve hot cocoa in roller skates on national television.

The only problem? The smoking hot, broody, perfectly bossy producer, Leo...

He's everything I've ever wanted in a man, but he's also my new boss and completely off-limits.

And that's before we realize our lives--and our pasts--are more intimately intertwined than we could have imagined.

Do I dare make holiday magic with the one man I now know I should never kiss under the mistletoe?

I know I don’t care much about logistics but having mmm 3 conversations and then deciding to get married is CRAZY
also having the cat telepathically talk to main character was….a choice. Not my choice, not a good choice. Just a choice.

It’s been a running joke how much people want to read a holiday book about a small town girl who goes to NYC and meets a city boy, breaks up with her small town boyfriend, and realizes she was meant to be a city girl. This book is that, but with so much more fun than you could expect. There is holiday games within a reality show competition for innkeepers, where Leo, the main guy, is the producer. Caroline owns an inn in a Christmas town in Vermont and is burnt out of her life. Her best friend and co-owner sends her to NYC to escape their town for a little bit and Caroline ends up in the competition.

Caroline and Leo instantly connect, and I mean instantly, but yet it feels so organic. Just that story of meeting someone you know instantly who will be in your life forever. Leo and Caroline spend all their free time together and realizes that their lives are more intertwined than they thought. These two have so much chemistry, but it’s their friendship that makes this book so well done!

Guys it’s only October and I could list some amazing Christmas/Holiday books already released and/or releasing!

This book had so much potential I was actually a bit dissapointed. I thought the reality TV plot could have been better, the drama between Jenna and Caroline and I was super disappointed with how the Vivian plot line unfolded, like why did she sit on this mountain of lies!? We never got closure when that was a huge part of the story.

Also the ending/epilogue was unrealistic. Leo and Caroline wanting to get married that fast and having 3 kids!?

It was a super easy read, I love a dual POV and loved the setting. I just wish it was executed better. If you need a quick read and don’t care so much about the plot, read this.

Brownie points for having a cat involved in the plot (love you Greg).

I really, really enjoyed this holiday reality tv, dual POV, forbidden romance between Caroline, one of the show contestants and the show producer, Leo. The chemistry between the leads is electric but they soon realize they have a complicated connection that makes things between them impossible, not only because of the show. Steamy with emotional depth and great on audio narrated by Sebastian York and the author, Lili Valente.

It was so hard to finish reading after half way through the book. It didn’t feel like love, just lust - just a desire to want each other sexually. Marriage after a few days after knowing each other didn’t sound believable. The cousin drama was not blended in well, it felt out of place. The cat sounded like the main character at one point. I wanted to like it and finish it but I skimmed the last 30% and didn’t finish the rest.

This was almost good, but the third act breakup was so stupid and eye roll inducing that it ruined the rest of the book for me. I was hoping for slightly better.

2 stars only for Greg, "the Satan" cat. He was a hoot, and his antics made me laugh. I could have done without the rest of the book. Vivian is a pyschopath. There was no reason for her drama or shit. The third act break up was stupid between Leo and Candy. Honestly, their whole relationship was crap. Their personalities weren't that great either. Disaster from start to finish. Greg is the best character. That is all.

Nice enough story, but it never really grabbed me. The 'big' conflict at the end was a little overblown and easily explained earlier in the story. Especially if they had just talked to each other. Still a worthwhile few hours. Well narrated by Sebastian York and Lili Valente.

Caroline Cane, small-town holiday-themed innkeeper in Vermont finds herself in the middle of a reality show when she heads to New York City for a hospitality convention. She's no stranger to the city since she lived there during college.

Finding her boyfriend slash small-town Christmas tree farmer hooked up with a Rockette isn’t the biggest shock Caroline faces. No, that would be in the form of her attraction to the handsome TV producer, Leo. Not only is he her current boss, but they share a connection that makes anything between them completely forbidden.

Tighten your shiny black belt and hold on to your jingle bells because things are about to get wintery wild and holiday crazy. From fierce competition between contestants to an evil cat with telepathic abilities to public humiliation, there's never a dull moment. Balanced by a heartfelt romance where the magic of Christmas really exists, this is just the thing to put you in the holiday spirit!

Leo has had some bad luck in love with his last relationship and Candy has been complacent in her own relationship. When they meet, they have an immediate bond and that grows the more they spend time together. This book is a really fun time and I just adore the two of them together. Oh, and her cousin Vivian is completely unhinged.
I really adore this book and the characters.

A Delightfully Enjoyable Story & Listen🎧

The Holiday Games
By: Lili Valente
Narrated by: Sebastian York, Lili Valente

This is a fun and delightful holiday romance with witty dialogue, fun scenes and a romance that never should have happened. Caroline “Candy” Cane grew up in Vermont, a small town that lives for the Christmas holidays. She owns the country inn with her friend and dates a man who owns a Christmas farm, so she should be cheery and festive for the holidays, right? Wrong! So, her best friend and co-owner gifted her a trip to NYC so she could get more in the spirit. Small world and all, Caroline runs into her boyfriend at a convention who is sucking face with another woman, a Rockette no less, which was a perfect opportunity to break things off with him, since she did not love him. All this is going on when Leo, who is filming a reality show competition in NYC, the contestants are inn-keepers and after a scandal they are short contestants and he is looking to recruit one. Hello gorgeous guy, hello Caroline, who is perfect for the job, accepts his offer, because the prize money would be great for her own inn. Then she realizes who Leo was, the guy who broke her cousin’s heart, but that did not stop her from being a contestant, because she can avenge her cousin. Leo tells her she has it all wrong and can prove it, and his proof was a diabolical cat named Greg. Caroline and Leo were great together and for each other, and the chemistry between them was smoking hot. This fast-moving story has the perfect balance of drama, low angst, wit and humor, charming and heartwarming moments, heartfelt emotions and a steamy romance. Lili Valente, thank you for this wonderfully delightful story, the laughs and the emotional roller coaster ride.

🎧📚🎧Sebastian York and Lili Valente were fabulous with voicing these characters and delivering a perfect portrayal of each. Valente was amazing as Caroline, grasping every aspect of her personality, her sass, her wit, her strength, her passion and all in between. York did the same as Leo and was just as amazing, embodying the role completely, perfectly grumpy, especially voicing Greg, through Leo. Both were fantastic at performing the roles of the side/secondary characters too. They set the right tone for the story, handled the witty dialogue effortlessly and landed the witty humor with ease. These two are an ideal pairing, with voices and talent that complement each other and a captivating performance that keeps you hooked to the story. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to.

This was more along the lines of what I thought the last Christmas themed book was going to be, or should have been. While I liked this one better, the story was decent but too wholesome for me. I know what you’re thinking, isn’t that a good thing? Well, on paper it should be. Who doesn’t want a feel good, warm fuzzies type of book, it’s part of the magic of Christmas. To be fair, this book was all of those things but I just wanted a bit more dirtiness, heat, lust and desire. This book kind of lacked in it. I know it probably isn’t meant to be this kind of book but I can’t help but feel this would have made this book a lot better and earning of a 5 on my end. I liked Caroline and Leo. The hero and heroine as a whole were likable. They didn’t have any resentment on the holidays or love, well Leo did. He didn’t let it define his mood though or getting into the holiday spirit. Had this been any other book I bet you would have gotten that though. In this case I liked that he still appreciated the holidays and enjoyed them. Caroline was a bit more uneasy but it’s because she was having an existential moment. She felt unfulfilled with her small town, its vibe and like she was trapped in a box. She couldn’t fully commit to the Christmas cheer but she made the most of it and didn’t bring anyone down with her about it. She does get her groove back though when she is forced to go on a trip to New York and you could feel her come alive again and regain that happiness. I liked how she found this in a change of pace, with new people, getting out of her comfort zone and most importantly, with Leo. The book does a good job in capturing this. In some cases, I think this was more what this book was about, rather than finding romance and love which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I just wish there was a deeper focus on exploring her feelings for Leo, and he with her. Other than that, I don’t really have much else to say about this book. It wasn’t deep but definitely lighthearted and satisfying. I just wish I got that grit and raw emotion between Leo and Caroline when it came to intimacy and connection.

This was such a fun book to read before the holidays to get me in the spirit early! “The Holiday Games” is a fun, flirty and sweet holiday romance that I enjoyed so much.

Caroline’s life revolves around the holidays and it’s like she’s living in her own Hallmark movie. She owns her own inn and her boyfriend owns a christmas tree farm. But during a last minute trip to NYC, she finds out that her boyfriend has been seeing a rockette on the side. But on the same trip, she’s offered a chance to be on a hospitality themed reality show. There’s one small problem, she’s attracted to her new boss, Leo, and he’s off limits for multiple reasons. But as they spend time together, the connection they had is too much to resist.

Like every Lili Valente romance, this book was such a fun and steamy read. I loved the synopsis of the story and I was excited to start it. Caroline is such a fun and sweet character and I loved how she got to be a part of a hospitality reality show. Her owning an inn is such an amazing career and being able to show her skills is so fun. This was the perfect opportunity for her after finding her now ex boyfriend being less than faithful. Leo was so swoony from the beginning and had all the green flags. I love his bossy side on the set and his kinder side when he’s not being a producer for the show. Leo and Caroline have an instant connection from the beginning and only grew as the story went on. I love that there is always a quirky animal and Greg the “Satan” cat was so much fun. The story is full of swoon and laughs which makes this a great holiday rom-com.

this was a whirlwind ride. definitely everything happened so quickly and very rushed. i'm sad at the lack of fleshing out of things. i understand its insta love but it can be insta love without all the rush.

the start was super great. i adapted well to the fast pace and didn't really minded. i loved the humour intertwined within the story and blossoming romance between leo and caroline. especially with all the scenes shown that they bonded and really got to know each other

but then !! definitely i got whiplashed starting chapter 21. things became 100x faster and not really in a good way. the ending was too rushed like it JUST NEEDED TO END NOW !! and it's a pity because the book was actually super fun even with its fast pace and quirkiness. everything went to flames and everything was sorted out too quickly.

there was no proper ending to some plot lines. just everything was tied up into a bow and said ok done !

i would've loved more time with vivian confrontation, searching for greg (where? how? what was the convo with leo then?), leo and caroline talking more about their relationship.

and seriously kayla already knew that vivian is a manipulator but chose to believe her??? i get caroline somewhat because kayla kept insisting on it but honestly shame on both of them.

and i'm pretty sure caroline might've breacheda part of the contract for just walking away from sept HSKFJSKDJ

BUT ANYWAYS

fun book. not so fun end.

Love, drama and forever

I loved this forbidden, quasi boss-employee, love at first site, double pining, reverse Hallmark holiday romance. It had the perfect mix of fun, humor, love, real life issues, spice, family drama, holiday goodness, and a sassy jerk of a cat. Leo and Caroline are both intense, strong and passionate characters who have flaws, but are really just trying to do their best as messy humans. I smiled, swooned and laughed the entire time I read this book. Leo is the creator and producer of Innkeeping with You: Holiday Games Edition, a tasteful reality show. He needs it to be a success so he can stop writing for the soul numbing reality show he currently works for. Caroline lives in Reindeer Corners, Vermont and runs the Reindeer Corners Inn with her best friend. She is visiting NYC to go to the Annual Hotelier’s Conference and Trade Show hoping it will inspire her to love her life again. When she catches Chris, her Christmas-tree-farming boyfriend cheating on her, she decides to have an adventure by joining Leo’s reality show. There is instant attraction and chemistry when Leo and Caroline meet, but there is the complication of him being her sort of boss as well as a strange intersection of their lives that should make dating impossible. But feelings - oh the feelings. They are big and messy and hot me right in the feels. This heartwarming story was well written and included engaging dialogue, three dimensional characters, and a swoony and heartwarming storyline.

This story is the perfect little holiday nugget. The narration on this is superb!!

Caroline “Candy” Cane, part owner of the inn in a town called Reindeer Corner in Vermont. She heads into NYC for a Christmas hospitality conference. It was a trip her bestie Kayla was supposed to take but Kayla knows that Candy misses big city life.

As she is on the floor of the exposition, oddly enough she runs into her boyfriend Chris and his Rockette dancer side piece. Needless to say, they break up and Candy is left wondering why she didn’t see this earlier. During the run in with her ex, she is noticed by Leo, a reality TV show director. Leo invites her to audition for the holiday themed show his is currently casting for.

She cast on the show and Leo instantly falls for Candy and her amazing attitude and her beauty. Kay what he didn’t need right now. Little does Leo know, Candy has a direct connection to his past. The situations that unravel from there are fun and light including Greg the devil cat.

There is light spice in this - just the right amount for this length of story. This book sets the right tone for the upcoming holidays. The banter is quick and the MMC is very sweet and thoughtful of Candy’s needs. The side characters development is great and the little town of Reindeer Corner sounds delightful!

Another insta-love book. It wasn't bad, I just struggle when the characters fall too fast... I prefer them to look past obvious imperfections and dislikes that they end up looking past, but these characters were a little too perfect/put together. So, it was a little hard to relate.

For some reason, the way Leo would talk reminded me a little of Hugh Grant (90-00's rom com era), so, it kind of made reading his lines fun. He was very witty when he spoke and ended up being an endearing character. Caroline was also likeable, but Leo's personality shined a little bit more to me. The cat (Greg) is probably my second favorite character. The telepathic talking between Leo and the Cat was hilarious.

Since the storyline centers around a reality show, I thought I'd see more drama with Caroline being on the show, but it was really just an afterthought. Maybe if the book was a little longer, there would be more with her being on the show. She was literally only in 2-3 episodes and they tried to create drama between the other contestants, but I don't think it was long enough to really develop anything that felt real. Even the feud between Caroline and Jenna felt forced because their time together was really so short.

So, this story was okay for a quick read but not sure I'd recommend as a compelling love story.

"The Holiday Games" is yet another charming romance from Lili Valente. She consistently delivers captivating love stories brimming with warmth, humor, and intriguing characters, and once again, she has done just that.

When Caroline and Leo cross paths in a surprising and adventurous encounter in New York City, they experience an instant connection. Their time together rapidly strengthens their bond, leading them to discover a love they have both been yearning to find. However, when an unexpected link to the past surfaces, they agree to keep their relationship platonic. Yet, the deep connection they share complicates that decision. But when a hidden secret comes to light, their profound bond is threatened. Will their love be the key to creating the future they both desire?

Once more, Lili Valente has crafted a captivating love story. I loved the chemistry between Caroline and Leo, along with their playful banter, which made it feel like they were destined to know each other forever. With the addition of friends, delightful side characters, and a charming cat named Greg, "The Holiday Games" is an enjoyable read, perfect for a cozy afternoon by the fire with a warm blanket and a cup of hot cocoa. Kudos to Miss Lili for another wonderful tale!

Vivian is a psychopath......I didn't like her

The read started out cute with Caroline going to the big city for an Inn/Hotel convention to try and get out of the doom she was feeling. LOL but she almost ran into her boyfriend so jumped into an igloo to avoid him. Leo who is doing a reality show and needed to get two more contestants since he had to let two go witnessed this going down. So he was curious and attracted to Caroline so he crawled into the igloo with her. LOL Small talk back and forth and he offered her the opportunity to be in the show. When Leo was asked his name Caroline almost choked. You see Leo dated her cousin Vivian. The stories Vivian came back home with shed an unfavorable light on Leo. Turns out Vivian is a Liar and Psychopath. Midway thru the read Leo and Caroline decide to give their feelings a go. But when Caroline gets a call from her bestie Kayla things go sideways and in the dumpster. Of course it's Vivian again with her lies. Not giving anything else up. But honestly we could have done without Vivian and her lies and drama. I still can't figure out why she did the things she did. Oh OMG and we can't forget Greg "Satan" cat. I think he was the star of the whole show LOL.

This is such a fun holiday read!! Caroline's life is like straight of a Hallmark movie, but what happens when it goes off script? Her idyllic small town life is going to get a shake up when she heads to NYC. Some crazy things start a domino effect to some of the most unexpected joys. Not just the author drew me to this one it has a very opinionated cat. I loved Greg! Such a strong personality. Leo won me over when he kept his ex girlfriend's cat when she abandoned him. Greg sure put him through the paces. There are plenty of comedic moments to go along with the heartfelt and steamy ones. The craft market Leo and Caroline went to sounds like a blast. I'm totally jelly they got to go! Wait until you find out who Leo's ex is because that leads to complications on the love front. I was super excited from to see a cameo from Millie. It brought all my favorite Bad Dog memories to mind. I couldn't have been happier how everything worked out for everyone. Leo and Caroline are so adorable together that it had me rooting for them the whole way! I recommend this funny adorable holiday read.

~*~ Audiobook Review ~*~ You almost cannot get more “Christmas” than Caroline "Candy" Cane’s life, surrounded year round by all things holiday… She has lost her luster, so when given a last-minute opportunity to escape to New York for a trip she can’t resist. This is the beginning of a wild adventure that starts with catching her boyfriend in a compromising position and ending up on the run…putting her firmly on Leo’s radar. He has had a run of bad luck, but I really enjoyed his character arc. His cat is a whole new class of grumpy - and I loved it! Leo and Candy are perfectly opposite and perfectly perfect. They just fit. This is a sweet, steamy, holiday romance that gave me all the warm fuzzies and some of the giggles as well. Loved it!

Narration by Sebastian York and Lili Valente made this even better. “SebYo” brings grumpy Leo to life and is just perfect casting. Lili is such a talented writer and performer who really is the perfect fit for her heroines with all of the humorous shenanigans, inner monologue, and life lessons that bring a truly heartwarming romance to life. Loved it and added it to my repeat holiday list.

Candace "Candy" Caroline Cane owns an Inn in a quint essential town called Reindeer Corners. The story begins oozing with holiday spirit!! A place, I definitely would love to live in! On top of all the Christmas in Candy's life, even her boyfriend, Chris owns a Christmas Tree Farm!

When her friend, Kayla, books a business trip for her to New York, she refuses at first because this was supposed to be Kayla's trip. Kayla, being Kayla, won't hear of Candy not going....so off Candy goes to New York. Sadly, she catches Chris messing around with a Rockette! Her luck just goes downhill after that! In her embarrassment of catching Chris, she also meets Leo. Leo is a creator and reality show producer, and finds her in a not so flattering situation.

When Leo meets Candy, he needs someone else to fill in a spot on his show. She agrees, but he didn't expect to feel an electrical pull towards her. He must keeps those feeling/urges to himself. Not acting on them is going to be a challenge. This show could make or break his career.

Great story! Very festive!

good holiday read-

It’s a bit instalove, but in a good way. Candace is in NYC for a hotel conference. She meets Leo, an ex boyfriend of her cousin Vivian. Candy finds her boyfriend kissing a Rockette and decides to compete on Leo’s holiday hotel reality show. Soon Leo and Candy get close and must deal with their feelings as they navigate the show and her family. I love that he bought her dresses and kissed her forehead under the mistletoe. I love that she helped him sort out the production after the ice rink melted. I like the contestants and the cat. I wish we would have see then fallout when Vivian’s lies about Leo really came to light to her family. I also wish there would have been a last scene showing Candy’s ex boyfriend how well she was doing. I feel like he would have tried to win her back at least one more time. Overall, a pretty clean book with just a smidge of spice. It’s a fun, fast holiday romance.

This was a really fun, cute read with anti-Hallmark vibes. Instead of going from the big city to some idyllic little town with this wholesome, innocent romance, the female main character is going from the idyllic little town where everything is boring and wholesome to New York City with spice and excitement.

It was a lot of fun. I really did genuinely enjoy it. The writing was overall decent. The main characters were developed enough to be lovable and enjoyable. The side characters felt flat and surface level, but I don’t expect more from this kind of story. The plot was simple but engaging enough. There was some spice and raunchiness, at least enough to make this thoroughly inappropriate for young readers. I give this 3.75 stars. It was fun, but is more of an average read. I might read this again during some future holiday season and I would recommend this to friends and other readers.

good writing and characters, but insta-love ruins the stakes of the story

Liked the writing and the characters - Greg was a treat. Very much an insta love story which is admittedly not usually my thing, but I’ve read insta love stories I enjoyed, usually where the relationship was developed after the insta love. This story very much suffered because of the insta love aspect. They barely know each other and have only spent a handful of days together when we get to the third act breakup, so the stakes just feel artificial. The “I can’t live without them” type thoughts come across as melodramatic when they’ve never even been in a relationship and have only known each other a week or whatever. I also didn’t think the basis for the 3rd act breakup made sense. Like, if the previous issues weren’t going to stop them from spending their lives together that being the tipping point felt contrived. This was my first book by this author. All that kvetching aside I really did like the writing and characters, so I’ll probably try another one.

I really liked the set up and premise of this book, and enjoyed the beginning quite a bit… but it really went downhill for me when it came to the romance, and how fast things moved after that - a lot of telling / informing the reader vs showing anything. Just wasn’t a fan of how the writing unfolded or the pacing. The spice scenes felt like they were written by someone who wanted to be be daring and dabble in spice, but had no idea how to and couldn’t fully commit so they are an awkward mix of some explicit detail and then they cut straight to closed door… it makes for a disjointed and awkward read that neither has the wholesomeness of a true closed door romance, or the anticipation of a true spicy romance. It just fell flat and then the ending was rushed and by then I just wasn’t invested in this story at all anymore. I will not likely read anything more from this author.

“I feel like I’ve known you for a very long time. I’ve just been waiting for you to show up.”

The Holiday Games was a charming, holiday story that gave me all of the holiday feels. Caroline is an innkeeper in a Christmas-themed town, but she’s feeling very grinchy until she travels to the city and meets Leo. When she agrees to participate in a reality show competition that Leo’s producing, the games begin.

The flirty banter and instant connection between Leo and Caroline was electric. I loved watching them overcome the obstacles in their way and despite their issues, they were unable to deny that they belonged together. Add in a fun cast of characters including a troublemaking cat and this holiday tale is just what is needed to get in the spirt of the season.
