It’s a fun magic, except in a world filled with vampires and werewolves, it doesn’t exactly make me a powerhouse. Instead, the supernatural community has classified me as an outcast, which means one picking on me is open season all day, every day.
The local fae are the worst of all, and it’s during one of their regular “capture the cat-girl” sessions that I shift into my cat form and meet HIM for the first time.
Noctus is so powerful his magic radiates off him like a sun, and my fae captors can barely look in his general direction. And then my life gets even more terrifying when Noctus decides to take me with him. As a pet.
Why did he pick today to “adopt don’t shop” a cat?
It gets worse when I realize he’s an elf, a ruling race of supernaturals that was supposedly killed off centuries ago.
But he’s not just any elf, no. He’s an elven king, with heaps of secrets to protect. Secrets that I am quickly learning since he includes his new pet in everything from breaking into buildings to inspect classified paperwork to tracking down sketchy supernaturals.
All this means if he gets even a hint that I’m not a real cat, I’m going to find out firsthand how elves treat their prisoners.
So, escaping Noctus is priority #1. How hard can it be? ( very.)
With over 50,000 ratings on Amazon and Goodreads, and millions of pages read, this completed urban fantasy trilogy contains an adventure-filled and hilarious take on the Hades and Persephone myth. It’s packed with humor, battles, and a sweet, slow burn romance between an outcast magic user and the deadly king of the elves.

My pen name is K. M. Shea, but my readers—I prefer to call them Champions—call me Kitty.
I love to write funny, clean stories with strong characters. Books like that are among my favorite to read so naturally I love writing stories like that as well. My philosophy is that life is tough, so books should be something that makes you relax and laugh!
Another amazing Magiford book! I love the different and unique takes the author uses in each series but this one is certainly the most creative with Chloe being able to shift into a house cat along with adding elves in the mix. And somehow it really works!
I love Chloe and the way the author writes her being a cat is so fun and creative, not to mention makes her feel like a real cat to the reader as well as the other unsuspecting characters. Noctus is another “brooding bad boy” type of character but has such a heart for his people and friends, and I love how this author writes “brooding bad boys” as actual people with complex emotions outside their broodiness, lol. And this friend group is so fun and I love them all! Not to mention when they’re all out being detectives it’s hilarious, lol!
The two separate plot lines were woven together really well, and I’m curious to see if we’ll actually get some answers about the hidden organization that’s been causing issues throughout all the Magiford books so far. Seems like we might, but also might not just yet—who really knows? Either way I’ll be happy to keep reading this new series until the end!

Oh my goodness I love these characters so much!!!! Chloe I actually had a hard time relating to in book one (even though I loved her) due to her being a cat most of the time, but in this one I really SAW her and grew to love her with everything in me as we are so much alike and I just relate to her so much in how shy and unnoticeable she is and so much more I can’t even describe but love so so much even though she does have a terrible habit of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, lol.
And Noctus is a huge sweetheart, oh my goodness I love him! He’s fierce and tough but also gentle and kind and I love him and want the best for him. And he and Chloe are just too cute and perfect for each other! 🥰😍🥰😍 And Charon, Ker, and Aristide are such good friends and amazing characters and I love them all—all around the cast is AMAZING and fantastic and I adore them all!
I’m VERY intrigued by the plot going on here and how it’s tying into the overall “hidden bad guys” who have been plaguing the previous Magiford books, and I honestly don’t know where the author is taking all this but I’m very excited to find out.
And the ending WAS SO SAD!!!! 😭😭😭 I was literally so sad and depressed the whole day after I read this (I sadly couldn’t just jump into the next book to make myself feel better since I’m buddy reading this series with my family) and we all agreed this was the saddest second book ending of Magiford yet.
I’m so hyped to read the last book and see how everything is going to work out! (It better all work out, especially for Chloe and Noctus… 👀)

I love this book and series so much!!!! Sorry Pack of Dawn and Destiny, you’re now my third favorite Magiford series as Chloe and Noctus’s story has taken second place! Actually more accurately it’s tied for first with Hall of Blood and Mercy, soooo…I guess Pack of Dawn and Destiny CAN stay as second, lol! 😂
Chloe and Noctus are AMAZING and I love them so much! Chloe is SO me on a number of levels and grows so much and I’m so proud of her! Noctus grew too and seeing how sweet and protective he is of Chloe melts me every time. 🥰 They are just too cute and I’m so glad their romance drama got smoothed out, especially after Book Two’s killer sad ending that I’m frankly still not over, heh. Aristide, Ker, Charon, and French Fry remain amazing as always, and I just love these friendships to pieces, not to mention throwing in Chloe’s siblings into the mix was sooo much fun!
The plot was SOOOO intense I nearly screamed half a dozen times and boy oh boy are these bad guys in the background (who will from now on be referred to as “the organization”) really uping the tension and attacks on Magiford! Things were so intense either emotionally or physically throughout this whole book and I LOVED IT! Cannot wait to see what the author has up her sleeve for the next trilogy!
It was also SO MUCH FUN seeing various characters from the previous books come back and even just hearing names of others made me giddy (can you tell I’m an uber fangirl of this world? 😂😜). And the ending… *sighs happily* It made my happily ever after, fairy tale ending loving little heart so happy. 🥰🥰🥰
I adored this book and series and while I can’t wait for the next trilogy I also cannot wait until this series comes out in paperback so I can buy and read them all over again.

(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I want to change my scoring by 0.50 or more of a star. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)
4.5*
I enjoyed that the MC was a 'different' type of supernatural. I'm hoping we get more books where we learn more about her people.
I'm looking forward to the story of the MC's friend she made in this series, though I'm guessing that'll be the 'end' trilogy that closes out the ongoing 'hunt' of the Paragon.
First time read the author's work?: No
Will you be reading more?: Yes ---- I especially enjoy reading the various books set in Magiford.
Would you recommend?: Yes
------------ How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author) 4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author). 3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series) or 3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)
All of the above scores means I would recommend them! - 2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.) 1* = Disliked
Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)
Ok, I was instantly hooked. I'm a sucker for a hidden identity and this one was amazing. I couldn't read fast enough to finally reach the point when Noctus would find out his cat wasn't really a cat. And then, I was so invested that I just had to finish all three books. This series was filled with magical intrigue that had me trying to guess the answers all throughout. There were some intense fighting scenes, so sensitive readers might want to be wary of that, but imo, they never lasted too long. I loved the humor sprinkled through the pages. There was some banter between Chloe and Noctus but my favorite was the sass from some of the side characters. The romance was super sweet. It was a little back-and-forth because Noctus didn't think it would be a good idea to involve Chloe in his other obligations but, as with every good romance story, everything worked out in the end. I especially loved when Noctus taught Chloe to fight, when they went tower-jumping together, and of course, when Chloe's real identity was revealed. Fans of clean romance will definitely want to check out this urban romantasy!
Gate of Myth and Power: The Complete Trilogy were fantastic books! Originally, I'd read each book separately, as they were first published, and didn't like the story as much as the other trilogies because of all the physical distance between Chloe and Noctus. So, this was my first re-read of all the books, and now I love this trilogy just as much as the others! Sometimes, love is hard, but it's worth fighting for, and I thoroughly enjoyed how both Chloe and Noctus fought for their love, even though the odds stacked against them seemed unsurmountable. It has all the humor and heart of all K. M. Shea's books without any swearing or bedroom scenes. Loved it!
I have read this series twice and I just adore it. Chloe is one of my favorite characters and I love that she changes to a house cat I love the banter between all of the characters and the storyline is so much fun. I also really enjoyed the love story betweenthe main characters and the affection between several of the side characters. And I have to say it is refreshing to read a story that is not X-rated. If you want a fun kick ass roller coaster ride with romance , can’t wait to read the next page, excitement, and happily ever after this is the book for you!
This is my all time favorite K. M. Shea series! It was hilariously irreverent of all the things we complained about while being warm and witty about all the things that truly matter: whether your life is merely a breath or you're breathless from centuries of living! Bringing together some of Magiford's best, and forging a whole new understanding of races long though dead, this one ends more incredibly than anything we scaredy cats could have ever imagined!
Great series! This plotline in the Magiford world is the story of Cloe, who is a supernatural raised by humans. Cloe is not sure what kind of supernatural she is but she can turn into a black house cat. She moves to Magiford with the hopes of learning more about what kind of supernatural she is. She flees from some Fae who have caught her and is rescued by Noctis, another supernatural who is also hiding the type of supernatural he is- because Elves are feared and hated and were thought to all have been killed in the last supernatural war.
The entire Magiford series is a delight, and I especially love this trilogy. As soon as I finished, I wanted to re-read it again; it’s that good! Each trilogy set can stand in its own but the author does such an incredible job of world-building, I recommend savoring it in order from first set to the last. I hope she continues writing more in this series.
Books, cats, elves, werewolf, vampire & a crazy fae all in one adventurous storyline. Miss Shea has always been a go to for escaping our world to a fun, enjoyable & intense moments were you can't wait to read the next chapter. Thank you for sharing your imagination, stories with all of us who love magiford supernatural city. I've read them all multiple times in a year
Excellent trilogy. One of Kim’s best . I couldn’t put them down but had to keep reading until I really had to sleep. Excellent romance entwined with the human and magical worlds with good vs evil ever clashing until the final climax . Then the final smoothing out the tensions like the stroke of a cats soft fur and warming sound of the feline purr. Well done K.M. Shea
This is the 2nd time I’ve read this series and I absolutely love it. Like all of KM Shea’s books, the story is beautifully woven with a super cute and interesting heroine and a powerful man who dotes on her. I still want to know what the Paragon looks like though!!! (maybe next time?).
I enjoyed the book, the romance was very subtle however was still enjoyable. i really liked the whole dynamic between the friends and laughed because ker the werewolf would become a guide dog but def was a werewolf than you had ama the cat xD. Trucks entire scenes cracked me up to was a fun light hearted read.

I always have a book hangover after reading Kitty’s books! Each new trilogy is my new favorite! Clean, cute, romantic, funny….. I could go on and on! This one is just as good as all the others! I love having the books all in one!
As this was just released as an omnibus, I decided to jump on the chance to read one of my favorite series. And I love it all over again. A great read, full of fun and adventure.
It was a good story, well told. Her prose is more polished than in previous works - not that the previous ones were bad. I love K.M.Shea's authentic voice, in all her writings; the voice in this one is just _better_.
Love! I've really enjoyed all of this author's connected Magiford series, I've read and reread them all. They're very entertaining and amusing, light but smart, with well-developed characters and worldbuilding. I would highly recommend them all.
If you’re looking for Romance with a side of humor this a great series to read. You’re able to relate with characters, especially the MC. Although, the story is a little drawn out in the beginning its still a good read.
These books are just great. Perfect even. Not too romantic that it's sloppy just enough to ease the tenseness of the action packed part of the books. You certainly don't get bored reading these books. I love them all.
Km Shea is one of my all time favorite authors, and she continues to come up with creative fun stories that balance fantasy romance and a nice comedic relief! Love her can’t wait for more books
This is a very sweet story with lots of cute and funny bits and minimal menace. I love the close family and friendships. My only complaint was the length. I think it could be pared down.
Another excellent trilogy. I enjoy the evolution of Magiford and how precious characters make appearances in later books. I have many questions about secondary characters and I look forward to seeing if they are answered in the next trilogy.
This book is so very different. I have never read anything like it. Strong characters and a fantastic storyline. I was at the stage towards the end when I realised it was going to finish, but I really didn't want it to. Amazing writer.
A reread of a trilogy I really like. It was also great to read it again after the Magic on Main Street trilogy - some hidden nuggets that made sense now.
