Charles Dyer, a Middle East expert and officially licensed Israel tour guide, helps sort out the complexities of Mideast violence--the ancient hatreds and the current crises. His extensive travel in Iraq, Israel, and elsewhere allows him to offer a unique 'you-are-there' perspective. Weaving together expert insight, personal stories, and the view of faith, Dyer guides us on a remarkable journey through a treasured and tortured land.
He is an Old Testament scholar as well as an authority on Middle Eastern history and geography. A licensed tour guide to Israel, he has traveled extensively throughout the Middle East over the past 25 years, leading over 70 different trips throughout the region to countries including Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Greece, and Turkey. He twice visited Iraq as an official invited guest of Saddam Hussein’s government.
When he is not working, traveling to the Middle East, or speaking, Charlie enjoys spending his time writing, reading, and golfing. He is a devoted (some would say fanatical) Macintosh computer user, and he collects antiquities—especially oil lamps from biblical times.
Charlie and his wife, Kathy, have been married for over 33 years, and they have two grown children—Ben and Becky. Becky and her husband are both graduates of Moody.
What a powerful book. Basically it quickly runs through the past, present and future of Israel. It seems to be a very balanced account of Israels troubles. I'm very sure that every Muslim on this planet will disagree with this book. too bad. I enjoyed the authors insightful look at what God is up to through this rebellious little nation. If the Bible is correct (and it is!) then the finale of this planet will be heavily involving all the chaos surrounding these modern day Jews. For as long as the Bible has been around its mentioned that Israel will be a nation that will be at the center of a world in crisis. And guess what? It sure it. Strange eh?
I hope Charles Dyer writes a part 2 someday. He better make it soon.
