Forgive, Forget

Rate this book
After ending a terrible three-month relationship, secondary school teacher Noor Aafia intends to search for a new love subject just to get over her dreadful ex. Fate brings her to Yusuff Idham, an old schoolmate, and a dentist assigned to her school for a volunteering programme.

Taking advantage of her best friend, Emir Ridza, Aafia wouldn’t let her chance slip away.

“You’re close with Yusuff during high school, right?”

“Not super close, but yeah. Why?”

“I was wondering if he is...”

“Is what? Just spill it, Aafia.”

“I just wanted to know if he’s single or not.”

Emir Ridza, on the other hand, has had his ongoing crush for longer than he could imagine. He is debating whether he should pursue his feelings or if he should just stay comfortable being friend-zoned.

This is a story of unrequited love, where a woman gives too much, and a man whose heart is always drawn to someone who never returns his affection. Will love save the day again? Or is happy-ever-after just a made-up fantasy?

The song that instantly brings Emir Ridza to mind is "Jodoh Pasti Bertemu" by Afgan. It's especially fitting after reading that heartfelt section where Emir includes Aafia in his prayers ❤︎ Emir is truly a remarkable man, the genuinely good soul that every girl dreams of having in her life.

"Forgive, Forget" takes readers on an emotional journey through Aafia's heartbreak and healing. After her breakup, Aafia finds herself drawn to Yusuff, utterly unaware that Emir, the man who has quietly cherished her, deeply loves her. Throughout the story, Emir grapples with his feelings in silence, maintaining a facade of restraint until the emotional burden becomes too heavy to bear.

One of the standout elements of the book that resonates with me is the beautiful friendship between Aafia and Humaira. Their bond is heartwarming and provides a source of strength and comfort amid the chaos of life and love. Additionally, I enjoyed the scenes between Aafia and Emir, both before and after their marriage, filled with sweet conversations. Emir lah, buat aku tersenyum sendiri

At the beginning of the story, I wasn’t particularly fond of Aafia. However, with 350 pages left to read, my opinion of her started to change. So, if you find yourself in a similar position, try not to judge her too early. I appreciate her character development; she evolves for the better after finding her other half. It’s inspiring and heartwarming to see someone help another become a better version of themselves.

Emir is consistently shown as a green flag man. Yusuff, on the other hand, didn't initially appeal to me, but he becomes likable by the end. I take issue with Nadira, particularly her lack of transparency with Yusuff regarding her views on the marriage—a decision that seemed unfair and inconsiderate and created unnecessary tension.

As for the antagonist, his role was undeniably infuriating. I was surprised by how the story took a turn into thriller territory, which added an unexpected twist.

Nevertheless, the book could benefit from some improvements, particularly in pacing and plot consistency. The first half drags a bit, while the second half rushes through events. I also would have appreciated an in-depth exploration of Aafia and Emir's relationship before marriage. Although marketed as a romance, some aspects felt slightly overdone.

Quotes:
"You are free to express yourself. You don't have to take care of everyone's feelings like you always do. You matter first. Put your feelings first than others."

You don't have to be perfect for someone else. Being in a relationship means to complete each other’s imperfections. Like a puzzle, you fit each other’s missing pieces.

"How could someone not be considerate of another's heart that they could recklessly hurt it.
The heart could shatter like a glass, only for its owner to pick the pieces up and glue them back together."

awal² tu F rasa boring jugak. too slow and almost surrender.

but after read about humaira. i just feel i need to read it till the end. guess watak humaira ni beri impact pada F.

I liked it every time I read to the next chapter, the beauty of the poetry fills my mind. Best tau baca. you rasa terbuai².

However, I feel sorrow seeing the end of Humaira's story, why must it end this way? 😭 sob sob sob giler sedih uols

F dont understand why cant Aafia see Emir. He is in front of you all the time. Emir has consistently offered hints to Aafia about his feelings, but Aafia always avoids the situation.

Little that she dont know Emir is quietly watching over her from a distance. He knows someone did stalking Aafia.

ermm story about Yusoff.. after breaking up with Nadira, Yusof seems to want to get back with Aafia without much thought. Ingat Aafia tu rebound ke? Eeee menyampah betul typical red flag ni!

It makes me happy when Aafia threw sarcastic words at Yusoff. he deserve it! 😅

overall such a light story. suitable for young readers, simple english so you senang nak faham.

To all the girls who will always root for the second male lead (who treats the female lead better anyway) this book is for you. Sometimes, a second male lead is way better than the first lead, right? 🤧

It's a story of unrequited love, where a woman gives too much, and a man whose heart is always drawn to someone who never returns his affection. Will love save the day again? Or happy-ever-after just a made up fantasy?

When I look at the first glance of the cover, I thought that "Oh, this book must be so cute and fluffy!" But I didn't expect that it would be quite sad and it's even has a mystery+ psychopath element in it. 🤯

From the first few chapters, I was so pity with Aafia. Girl, why you're so unlucky with your relationship?!?! 😭 It's sad you know when Aafia always gives too much effort in a relationship but her partner just ended it up like that. Not once, but twice! 💔 I would be so heartbroken if I was in Aafia's place.

THIS IS ALL YUSUFF'S FAULT! I was so mad with him to the point that I want to punch him straight to his face. 😤 How come he just toying with Aafia's feeling. (Hello, punyalah Aafia tu layan dia dgn baik, caring tapi macam tu je dia tinggalkan Aafia?!?! Sebab apa? Sebab dia jumpa perempuan lain yang dia suka. WHAT A RED FLAGG 👎. Paling kita geram, sebab Yusuff tu nak get back balik dekat Aafia. Like kau dah buang dia lepastu nak balik? GERAM BETHOL KITERRR😤) Sorry terpaksa cakap Melayu sebab geram sangat 😭

Glad Aafia's have ✨EMIR REDZA✨- our second male lead (that I was rooting and simping on him from the very first moment okay! 🙈). Compared to Yusuff, I can see that Emir always treats Aafia better and sincere. Whenever Aafia's talk, he listens. Whenever Aafia's hungry, he'll cook. IN FACT, HE'S A CHEF OKAY. 😍 What makes me even want to punch the air is that when he always calls Aafia "PRINCESS". OMGG ME WHEN?!?!😫 Not only he calls Aafia as princess, but he also gives Aafia a princess treatment as well. 🦋 Srsly, everyone needs their Emir Redza in our life. His act of service is a top tier>>> 💯

Another thing that I love about this book that it have a beautiful poems and poetry at the end of every chapters. LURVEEE! 😍🫶

Reading this book giving me a roller coaster of feelings. What I didn't expect is what coming up to Humaira. To Kak Aida: how come you make her ending like that? My tears keep falling off you know. 😭😭😭 She's definitely the best friend ever for Aafia.

Overall, if you need a light read with a "friends -to-lovers" trope, + a lil bit of psycho thriller and a bittersweet story, this book is for you. 💐

hey siri play you belong with me by taylor swift ˚⋆𐙚。 𖦹.ᡣ𐭩˚

for those longing for romance where he’s willing to do anything to see her happy 🤍

aafia, a teacher, has just gotten out of a relationship, when she bumped into her old schoolmate who’s now a dentist, yusuff. they hung out and clicked with one another, and started to get closer. but this isn’t good news to emir, aafia’s best friend who has been with aafia through thick and thin, as he has been keeping his feelings for aafia for the longest time.

i only read this in 2 days (if we include sleeping)—flew through the pages because the english is simple and easy to follow. the writing is also suitable for beginners, and i’d say young adults would best enjoy this book.

the friendship between aafia and humaira is what i adore about this book. humaira as a person, in fact, just gives me the “aww sejuk mata memandang” kind of feeling yknow HAHA she’s such a sweetheart 💗 trust me you’ll love her character

one of the scenes that i want to highlight is the scene where emir includes aafia’s name in his du’a to Allah. it’s such a pure and beautiful scene that emir prays for aafia’s happiness, be it with him or without him.

what i wish could be improved is the depth that are given to the characters, especially between aafia and emir—i’d love it if i could get some sneakpeeks/flashbacks to their high school days etc, so their chemistry could be felt deeper and blossom from there.

all in all, congratulations to the author for this debut novel and thank you manés for sending this book to me ♡

First book of this author, a solid 3/5 ⭐️

First few chapters made me feel like the writing style is not for me (feels a bit young-ish¿ if i can say that). Towards the middle part, i shift between liking the writing style & not. Yusuff, i do not like u from the start. Yes, youre a nice guy, but MOVE ON. Why are u looking for aafia when nadira broke ur heart for the second time. Aafia, please SEE EMIR. A rich chef who calls you princess?!?! PLEASE MARRY EMIR.

The end: the plot was not really unexpected. Emir, i love you. Ayman, you are a MAN. Yusuff, man up. For a new author, i think its okay tho, the plot wasnt messy, the story was mostly straightforward, not really my style but if u like simple, fast love story, i think its okay (it did made me blush and kick my feet at times)

The premise was fine. Unrequited love but at the end of the story managed to find her true love. I mean who doesn't like that ?

But somehow the plot felt a lil bit mess up. With all of the new characters kept bumping in. Nick ? Iffat ? Nadira ? So i don't felt any of these povs were connected to the main plot. The pace felt too rushed and i didn't even get to fully absorbs one scene before it suddenly shifted to another.

Emir is cute. Yusuf was a goddamn idiot. Nadira was a double the trouble of idiot. But yeah some of Emir's line were kinda sweet (maybe a bit too cringey-sweet) but that's fine-ish.

The writings. Understandable since it is author's debut novel so congrats for her for this achievement. I am fully convinced that her writings will gradually become better and better once she start to release more upcoming books. Definitely wish her the best.

my rating: 3.5/5
tropes: he falls first, friends to lovers
tw / cw: stalking, kidnapping

opinion (beware of spoilers):
need a fast paced and beginner friendly english book? this would be the perfect read for you. i completed the book in one sitting as it started off super light-hearted but had a few dark twists that i did not see coming as well so it felt intriguing to read how it unraveled.

as for the main characters, aafia (fmc), yusuf (mmc) and emir (aafia's childhood close friend), their differences in characteristics are apparent and that's also rather interesting for me to read. however, i loved reading on aafia and humaira's friendship the most since it felt genuine and a perfect "girl's girl" moment where they both always supported each other no matter what happened.

in short, the pretty book cover and the blurb reeled me in but the overall plot felt a little rushed so the reading journey wasn't the best in general personally. i'd also love to see more of the background story of aafia and emir's friendship during their younger years as i think that'd help i connect better with them.

At first, I wanted to be nicer by giving it atleast a 3 since it's the author's debut novel but it got worse everytime i continued to read it😭Everything was out of place and the plot is not even plotting???!? the writing pattern is so messy like tell me why there were 5 povs in a page😭I hope the author can do better for her upcoming novels😞😀

After breaking up with Iffat Syakir, Aafia tried to look for a new lover to get over him. When she met Yusuf Idham, she thought he was the one for her. At the same time, her best friend since high school, Emir Ridza loved her ever since and tried to propose to Aafia a few times, but she never opened her heart to him.

I love the direction of the story. I couldn't predict who will be with Afiaa. Both of the guys could be the one for her at the end of the story. Or maybe the third guy is gonna come and be her prince charming? Well, we never know.

Forgive, Forget had a lot of love, and a pinch of sadness. It played with my emotions very well. I resonates a lot with the story.

After Aafia's marriage, the story became more exciting with unexpected events happening to Aafia. There are quite a number of suspenseful actions involved. I am surprised and angry with the guy who started all these terrible things that happened to Aafia.

I love the quote, "Love is a warm chaos", because indeed, after all the chaos, the hearts of two lovers were tested, and the bond of love will be stronger than ever.

For a debut novel, the author did a commendable job. There were some instances where the language felt slightly off, almost as if certain phrases had been directly translated from Malay to English. I also noticed a few plot holes, and some events felt a bit rushed, though this is understandable for a first book. My sister bought this for herself, and while I wait for my own order to arrive, I decided to read it. Overall, I’d give it an average rating.

I think this book is a great choice for those wanting to try reading in English, especially for readers who may find English challenging. The language is approachable. It is not overly advanced, but also not overly simple, making it suitable for someone looking to gradually improve their English skills. The plot is straightforward, and it’s an easy, light read that doesn’t require too much emotional investment. Overall, it’s a great pick for beginner English readers, offering accessible language and once again as I have mentioned earlier, it involves a plot that won’t leave you questioning or feeling stressed.

i just knew that this is a debut novel and for that, congratulations to this author!! you did so great but there are always some room for improvements ☺️ this book is so wattpad coded for me so maybe my younger self would love it more. most of the scenes felt too rushed and less described which led to me, not feeling any sense of attachment towards the characters(?) anywho, i still enjoyed reading this and towards the end, its getting more interesting that i cant even put the book down. so kudos to this author! ❤️

i feel bad rating it so low, especially since it’s a debut book. I picked up this book because i was in the mood for some cheesy romance, but tbh, this book put me in a slump on my long-awaited weekend. i couldnt help but notice some hiccups in the first half. there were so many questions running through my mind during my reading session. for me, it only got interesting in the second half.

Emir really carried the book on his back. meanwhile, Yusuff’s impulsiveness had my blood boiling, and Aafia fell in love way too fast. like, girl, you’re still young—take a breath! 😭

1. Light and captivating story that I couldn't put down, finishing it in just one day!

2.The classic "friends to lovers" dynamic is done beautifully, with just the right touch of a love triangle to keep things intriguing.

3.Emir is the kind of character everyone will fall for—cheeky, protective, and irresistibly endearing.

4. Romance with an angst, family issue.

5. Minus 2 stars coz I would have loved to see some issues discussed in more detail.

It took me a while to understand Aafia's perception of love, but when the story develops, I like it when she finally bosses up and puts Yusuff where he belongs. I like it better when the story turns into a little bit of dark romance 🤭 Emir reminds me a bit of Alex Volkov haha

*Forgive, Forget* by Aida is a light, easy-to-read debut novel with simple language. While the story shows promise, it could benefit from smoother pacing and better flow. Despite some rough edges, the book leaves readers hopeful, and I’m looking forward to Aida’s future works.

Let me say that I enjoyed the whole story, but bear in mind that there’s going to be a lot happening here that will make your feelings feel like a roller coaster, because that’s what I felt when I read it. I love that this book aligns with what the author said: “Sometimes the wrong train will get you to the right destination,” because that’s exactly what the main character, Aafia, went through.

Aafia had a bad breakup with her ex-boyfriend and felt like she deserved nothing, especially in a relationship. Fate brings her to meet Yusuff, her old schoolmate who was close to Emir, her best friend. You know what happens when you like someone; of course, Aafia asked for Emir’s help while not actually knowing that the man in front of her is the one who has loved her for many years.

I’d say I was hooked from the start, but the further I went, the more I started to hate Yusuff. He’s so annoying in a bad way that I felt like punching him! How could he do that? Was he really that blind to see how precious Aafia is? As for Emir, oh, I wish I could meet him just to thank him for being the best man on earth for Aafia. I like the way he treats her—sincerely, with pure love and full of affection.

The path will not always be smooth, and there were some disasters and chaos here and there as Aafia and Emir began to face challenges together. This is where I couldn’t sit down quietly; I got nervous about how chaotic things were. I love how this book made me feel anger, annoyance, blushing (Emir, my guy🫶🏻), and even sadness. The world-building was good, and the author’s writing is easy to understand. Overall, I enjoyed reading it, so go get your hands on this book NOW😍!

I don't fancy it at all. Aafia has severe main character syndrome to the point i want to vomit. Tell me, are you that pretty and likeable to the point both of these men pursue you like crazy? And she's kinda dumb, obvi Emir likes you, and you just let it go like nothing is actually happening....

The ending with Aafia and Iffat was so unnecessary. I don't think that's supposed to be in the book?? Very very sudden and was not explained well the motives and such.

What I could say is it's very unrealistic portrayal of what true love is.
