Isabelle Reed is having a bad year. The classical violinist is struggling with a divorce, and a broken arm has left her unable to play. So when she receives a wedding invitation from her cousin Morgan, her heart just isn’t in it. Going to the wedding will mean seeing everyone from back home, and seeing everyone back home will mean facing the music about her divorce. Unable to miss her cousin’s wedding, she bites the bullet and takes off—and lands right in the arms of Morgan’s brother-in-law, country western music star Tate McGill. She’d heard about the singer and his bad-boy reputation, but there’s something about those storm-filled eyes that made her yearn to look deeper. Even though she should know better than to risk being the subject of a song on his next album.
Country western singer Tate McGill is living the good life. He’s surrounded by beautiful women, hit music, and a great family. But he gets more than he bargained for when he agrees to babysit his nephew Jake for his brother Seth Blake, and finds a beautiful woman in his way. Isabelle Reed is talented and strong-willed, and she’s a natural with little Jake. But she’s keeping a secret from Tate, and he’s determined to find out what it is...
Waited a long time for Tate's story and I am sad to say that I was a bit disappointed. I wanted the same magic that Morgan and Seth's story brought. Maybe because Isabelle is a complete stranger. She was never mentioned before even though in this book she and Morgan are very close. I couldn't connect with her. Tate was wonderfully written. His past was revealed a bit more which was good in-depth info about his character. Explained some of the decisions made.
I was really excited to see that Tate was getting a story of his own, but I didn't really like this story. I did like the aspect of them working together musically, but any other connection just fell flat.
Rhonda has a way with writing about the Blake family that seems so true to life. Families have their ups and downs and so does the Blake family. When Izzy and Tate met, it was almost love at first site. Izzy fought with her self from succumbing to the playboy country star, but neither one could resist. In Izzy, Tate saw the comforting love he so needed all of his life. But, instead, let his crazy abusive father do mind tricks on him that made him second guess if he really deserved Izzy because of the so called McGill family curse. It was not until he sulked and realized that he was raised by an excellent adoptive father John Jacob Blake, that he was determined to woo Izzy back.
I just love the relationship between Seth and all of the brothers as well Morgan's relationship with her cousins. They were true to life and realistic. This was an enjoyable read.
I can hardly believe this is Book 4 of "The Blake Boys" and I am so happy that she expounded on these wonderful men.
Tate McGill aka Tate Blake was adopted by Teri-lyn and John Jacob. Tate came from an abusive background where his father beat up on his mother and on him too. It just broke my heart when he talked about the past and how he was rescued by the Blakes. Tate is a country music super star, has a great family, an adorable nephew but the one thing missing from his life is a love he can call his own. Love always happens when we aren't looking for it the stage door on the left opens up and enters Isabelle Reed. A concert violinist and the cousin of Morgan Reed whom is married to Tate's brother NFL QB Seth Blake. They say music soothes all ailments of the heart, mind, body and soul. Isabelle found herself listening to Tate's music of erotic happenings on his CD while she nurses a broken arm and wounded soul from her divorce. On a whim she gets rid of all of the furniture that would remind her of her failed marriage and leaves for Philadelphia way earlier than expected to surprise Morgan. Upon entering the apartment, she sees a man looking inside of the refrigerator, grabs a butcher knife and waits for him to turn around. As the man does she realizes that it is Tate McGill LOL!!! He is babysitting his nephew Jake so Isabelle is relieved that this is not a robber but bummed that Morgan isn't there because Seth took her away on a little vacation.
For two weeks these two wounded souls got to hang out with each other, with a little boy named Jake who is so full of love, the two adults find kindred spirits within each other. Both are musicians, both are dealing with emotional wounds but draw comfort from each other in a way that could only happen for them both. As things begin to finally open up for them, Tate suspects Isabelle of not telling the truth of what happened to her arm? And her ex-husband's repeated attempts of trying to get her to talk with him and take him back. Isabelle sees Tate struggling with the ability to believe he deserves happiness and unconditional love? Can these two souls finally come together to have all the love, peace and joy that they so richly deserve? It seems that way as Isabelle comes to Texas to be with Tate and his family. But tragedy strikes Tate and an ugliness from his past rears its head. All of the progress these two have been making with each other come crashing down around them. Is there a chance for them, is there hope for them? You will find yourselves rooting, praying and cheering for them. But will that be enough for Tate and Isabella to be together? You must read it to find out.
Texas Heat is the fourth book in Rhonda Laurel’s Blake Boys series. I think it can be read as a stand-alone novel but a lot of the back story regarding character development will likely be missing for a newer reader. In some areas, the story might come across as disjointed without the background knowledge. This story focuses on country singer Tate McGill who is somewhat of an adopted brother to the Blake Boys clan. Tate is the best friend of quarterback Seth Blake, the hero in the first three Blake Boys books.
Tate meets Isabelle Reed, cousin of Seth’s wife Morgan, while he’s babysitting the couple’s son and, of course, sparks fly. I absolutely adore Ms. Laurel’s writing style. The world that she has created in the Blake Boys series is fantastic. It’s about family; it’s about communicating effectively in relationships; and most of all, it’s about stepping outside of your comfort zone in an effort to grow.
I was excited to read about Tate’s story since he appeared in the previous books. Perhaps, my expectations were too high because, I was a bit let down. I anticipated much more from Isabelle and Tate’s relationship. It wasn’t that their story was poorly written or that chemistry was lacking, but the connection between Isabelle and Tate, in my opinion, wasn’t as powerful as what Seth and Morgan had. I’m not sure if this was due to the fact that Isabelle was rebounding from a divorce, or the fact that Tate, a reformed playboy, was still gun-shy about being with one woman and planting roots, even though subconsciously it’s what he’s wanted for a very long time.
I’d recommend this book to others but I would say to dive into the series first instead of reading this book as a stand-alone. You will come to enjoy Tate as he makes appearances throughout the series. He’s an extremely likable guy with a good heart. I’m thoroughly looking forward to Book 5 in the series that will be released later this summer. My recommendation would be to read the series now and join the roller coaster ride.
Tate Story was another great read in this series there is something warming about the blake boys and i adore reading about them.Ms laurel draws you in and keeps you hooked fabulous writing i read each book and then can't wait for the next one
Their book was a solid read in the series. It started off really slow but it picked up. They both had some serious family drama. It's always nice to catch up with the Blake family.
