This book feels like a cozy fantasy with red riding hood feels. The characters are very sweet, found family theme. There is not really romance and no smut. This is a good clean book for ya to adult readers.

What an interesting fantasy thriller! It wasn't exactly what I was expecting going into it, but I enjoyed it nonetheless and will likely read this author's other books set in the same world as I liked the characters and would like to learn more about them. The pacing was pretty even throughout, and it was a nice, chill book to read, but man, that ending comes at you out of nowhere!

The third part of the Once upon a curse series is a little bit different from the first parts, since this book isn’t romantasy. This book is a fantasy murder mystery. It features Red Riding Hood and reapers. The main female character is representing both Goldilocks and Red Riding Hood, however she is also a assasin. What will the story have in store?
Cursed by Fur is a small town supernatural murder mystery. It features reapers, gods, witches and werewolves. D.C. Gomez does have a nice writing style. She really created a loving world with lots of Halloween vibes. I really loved this.

I want to start off by saying Bravo the D.C Gomez. In one of her other stories, She has a character, a black cat. His name is Constantine. He's solely responsible for helping create tales the sentient library from some of my favorite series.
It was a wonderful surprise to see him in this story. Having a lead role and stepping forward to get to know him more. Not to mention, it's always entertaining when a black cat is in charge.
This Little Red Riding Hood twist retelling was definitely unexpected and a great surprise.
It starts off by a blonde woman leading a werewolf to a park for a picnic. In the end she ends up killing him by questionable means. And then you bounce into governmental style office where they are trying to solve this murder.
It ends up turning into a series of murders and nobody knows why or how they have been killed.
And as always there's no rest for wicked so there's always something else going on. Fighting with the turmoil of everyday issues in Haven, The reaper team is working hard, Short-Handed, And exhausted trying to solve all of their problems.
This fun twist of a story will keep you guessing. And is definitely a must read!

Holy Moly! This was a fun book to read. There’s a rather large cast and there’s quite a bit going on. We get to see things primarily from Bob’s and Bartholomew’s point of view as well as Nikita’s. There are a lot of things going down in Haven, Texarkana. Halloween is coming up, court is out of control, power moves are being made, and there’s a possible serial killer on the loose.
I loved all the action and how all of the pieces joined together. I loved the world that DC Gomez has created. And I loved the characters and came to care for them all. I *might* have gotten emotional at the end and *perhaps* needed a tissue.

I love DC books and the ones I love the most are the "intern diaries" (what? You haven't read them? Go buy them, what are you waiting for ) and this book was like going home and meeting all of my friends. That said, this story can be read as a standalone because the situations happening are independent from the others. And OMG how much I loved this story, it kept me guessing and second guessing myself and no matter what, I never saw this coming!!! I really loved seeing Bob owning his place and specially finally finding his mojo. And seeing Bartholomew feeling comfortable in his own skin. I have too much to say but I don't want to spoil anything. Read it, love it, fall in love with The Haven!!!

This was really not what I was expecting out of this series. Which isn't a bad thing! Just threw me off at the beginning when it wasn't romance heavy. I'm actually really interested in contemporary/urban fantasy with magical police forces, and even more when there's some humor to them. Even though this was a murder mystery it did have a lot of funny lines, and I'm super excited to see that I already own book 1 of the connected book series.

All the characters in this book were so nicely fleshed out. It was impossible not to love them. Constantine the cat enjoying cakes? Hilarious! Also finding the fact there are more books in this world, made me really happy because I loved reading about this characters and I want more.

The world-building was interesting because Texarkana is not your usual city, there is not a complex world, is giving you the feeling you're living in a normal world until you find out this is NOT a normal world, and is a paranormal world were so many things are happening behind the back of the humans without them knowing.

I loved everything! The Texarkana, the characters that were really interesting and so easy to follow, the plot twist that I didn't see coming was mind-blowing! I'm going to check out the next books under the Texarkana's world because I want more. Also the Red Riding Hood who's not the usual Red Riding Hood was so delicious to read, even tho I wanted MORE scenes with her and her dark life because she was something else. There's also lots of banter, and the tone of the book even tho is mysterious because of all the deaths that need to be figured it out, was and remained hilarious until the end which was so entertaining.

There is no spice in the story, there is some tentative spice in the very beginning but there is no smutty/spicy scene. There may be some triggers since you get some scenes from the morgue, but nothing that happened in the story triggered me.

This was a blast! It was a mix of the movie ripd meets supernatural meet Sherlock Holmes!! The Dark humor hits, the paranormal elements were so cool, the storyline was fantastic, and the political intrigue was the perfect amount. This was like a Halloween special of series that has been and will continue to be written but it's a standalone.. meaning it has my interest for what's next and what's happened but I wasn't lost, it was a complete story. There's a twist in this where the ending isn't a traditional one and it'll leave your jaw on the floor.. I had my suspicions but it still got me! This was fast paced and a ton of fun!!

A little red riding hood retelling. Not at all what I expected but the last chapter sure put the t in twist!! Never would have figured that out!

Cursed by Fur by DC Gomez is the third book in the Once Upon a Curse Series, and I simply couldn't put it down!
From chapter one, this story had those intriguing “things are not as they appear” vibes that kept me hooked. While the description hinted at a dark retelling of Red Riding Hood, I must admit my initial impression was a bit different than expected, especially compared to the other two books in the series. Don't get me wrong—Red Riding Hood is definitely part of the story, but it’s presented in a subtle way through nuances, small details, and some underlying themes. Although it wasn’t what I anticipated, I genuinely enjoyed this fresh take on the tale. By the time I turned the last digital page, everything came together beautifully, and I felt completely fulfilled by the journey the author had taken me on.
I have a soft spot for stories involving Death and Grim Reapers, and this cast certainly didn't disappoint! One of the most enjoyable aspects for me was feeling like I was peeking behind the scenes at Death’s team, their home base, and how they operate daily. It evoked the image of touring an active firehouse, meeting those in charge, learning about the different levels of seniority, discovering cool tech and gadgets, and witnessing the inevitable chaos that comes with teamwork. This “team” features a variety of characters, and I bet you'll find at least one to relate to! My personal favorites were Constantine, a talking cat and Death’s right hand, who makes quite the unforgettable entrance, threatening to bomb someone’s house for hacking their YouTube channel, and Eugene, one of Pestilence’s assistants, who’s both knowledgeable about toxins and loves to dance.
It's worth mentioning that while Cursed by Fur is part of the Once Upon A Curse series, it also draws on characters and stories from the author’s Reaper Series. This connection left me a bit puzzled at first, as we dove right in with the characters, their roles, and their backgrounds. Thankfully, the author does a fantastic job providing readers with a quick crash course on each character, helping you get to know them better. Just be a little patient to reach those explanations, and soon enough, everything will start to click into place!
I truly believe this story has something for everyone—action, witty banter, funny moments, and fantastic world-building. That said, I wouldn't categorize it as “spicy.” There’s a hint of spice at the beginning, but it doesn’t dominate the story. Personally, I was completely absorbed in Death’s team and their efforts to solve a murder mystery, but I understand some readers might wish for a bit more spice.
Even though this story wasn't quite what I expected, I was pleasantly surprised by the end and found myself a little sad that it was over. However, don’t worry about me too much—I’ve added DC Gomez’s Reaper series to my growing TBR pile and can’t wait to start the journey with these characters from the beginning!

Welcome to Haven, a supernatural place where everything and everyone isn't what they appear to be. I know this is suppose to be a standalone book, but tbh, I was SUPER confused when I started reading it. It's as if I started watching a TV series but it had already been on for a couple of seasons. I knew absolutely nothing.😆😆 Oops. I didn't know there were other books giving the main characters their back stories till the very end of this one. This is also my first by this author. She can really build a story but there were soooooo many characters.😵💫 It got a bit overwhelming to keep up with the entire cast. I almost stopped reading. But I wanted to give the book a chance so I kept going.🤞🏻🤞🏻 To the zany circus we go.🎪🎪 Are you ready?!
It does have hints of the fairytale Little Red Riding, an adult version of course, with shifters, well pretty much every supernatural being you can think of.👻😈💀 Including the devil, his name is Jake, part of the Horsemen, Death and Pestilence, Reapers, and an all star cast of kooky characters who really support each other while keeping their world safe. I like their family dynamic. That bond. But the Nikita story, that's Red btw and Bob, Bartholomew, Isis, Shorty, Constantine, Abby, Angela, TJ, Pete the pixie, Eugene, Mickey, Death, Magdalena.... Do you see where I'm going with this? Hehe There's a lot more people. Trust me.😳 Their massive story ran side by side with Nikita's. And Nikita, well, she was only there for about a minute with her story angle but I wanted more overlay with both together. You can't have one without the other. Needed more meshing. Constantine cracked me up. He's a talking cat who loves pie and has a Camaro.🚘🤣🤣 Shorty was also funny. He's exactly what you think but with the fedora scene, he's Frank Sinatra in my mind forever. A shorter version. Bart is very young, a Reaper, and learning more about himself and his power. He's in love. Murders of wolf shifters are happening in Haven. And Bob and his crew of misfits have to figure out who and why. I suspected one certain person, it stood out, but Ms Gomez put an extra twist on top of that sundae. Extra extra knotted cherries.🫨🍒🍒🍒
Sometimes the story dragged in between trying to reach resolution. Other off the wall conversations would drag the focus away from the murder investigation. I was left wondering what does that have to do with anything here at the present moment?🙃🙃 Spider shifters anyone?! I think there should have been more human interactions with the supernatural ones. It's a small country like town, but regular folk have got to be around there somewhere sometime. It wasn't bad of a story considering that I landed in a strange off the wall place. Maybe less can be more? If you want to read it, you should, but be aware that there are other books with these characters before this one. It would definitely help with the overall reading experience. Enjoy.🥧🐈🥧

Described as a retelling of Red Riding Hood, this story goes so beyond that. While there is definitely a Red Riding Hood presence, it is not the focal point of this story, which turned out to be so much more than I was expecting! I loved this story! My first book by DC and I am a fan!!
The variety of characters we get in this book are amazing. Definitely focusing on the world of death and grim reaper type characters, it was beautiful to see how DC brings all these different personalities together and have them work together. I will note that while reading the book, I came to discover some characters are pulled from other books of DC. It doesn’t make the story hard to understand or feel as though the reader is missing out. It was more, I need to read these books now, because I must know more!
Due to their being so many characters it is hard to give little intros to each of them, but know they each hold a vital role in the storyline. There are deaths happening all around Haven and they need to stop. This is what the majority of the story line focuses on. All these characters coming together to solve who is doing it. Definitely didn’t see the twists DC puts in the storyline coming, but it made the storyline all that much sweeter.
DC wrote an engaging story, with a large cast of characters that somehow all work together. I can see that this may be overwhelming for some, but I promise you, stick with the story and you will finish the book loving it! I am impressed that DC was able to keep track of so many different characters and all the nuances that made them individuals. A great addition to the Once Upon a Curse series and an amazing first read and introduction to this author for me.

Death’s interns are spread thin between being short staffed, trying to enforce policy among the magical community, and dealing with their own lives. The medical team desperately needs more people, the sheriff’s department is dealing with all the petty squabbles, and most importantly Constantine’s YouTube account was hacked. When a pattern of missing and murdered shifters, specifically werewolves,is noticed, Death’s interns need to figure out what is going on before war breaks out between the shifters.
I like how we know who is committing the murders, their plotting, and get an idea of why they are doing it. The characters were quirky and were fun to see interacting like a giant family. That being said, their banter and interactions were so much like family that I felt like I was missing events or character backgrounds. It felt like I was reading book two or three in a series with how we should have been familiar with events that happened in previous books. The little red riding hood aspect was loosely there and not the defining part of this story. I get how with multiple points of view that there would be several plot threads which was fine but there were some interactions that didn’t flow well for me or were too brief that I wasn’t sure why they happened. Interesting ideas being used but would label this more of an urban fantasy murder mystery than a fairy tale retelling.

So in my opinion anytime you have a talking black cat in charge of anything it’s bound to be awesome and this did not disappoint. I’ve never read anything from D.C. Gomez before but now I feel like I need too especially the books in the world with that lovely cat Constantine. This book is the third on the once upon a curse series and it follows the other two as being a stellar continuation of the series.
It was out to me as a little red riding hood retelling and while those elements are there they are very subtly entwined with the story elements.’

I want to preface my review with an acknowledgment that this book is a standalone in the Once Upon a Curse set but was set in the Reaper’s universe from another series by this author that I have not read. That likely had an effect on my ability to connect with the characters and understand the world from the beginning. I would recommend reading the Intern Diaries series by DC Gomez before reading this book.
That being said, I didn’t hate this book but I also didn’t love it. It was okay. It’s written in 3rd person and focuses on three main characters (Bob, Bartholomew, and Nikita). It seemed like two separate stories until the end and kept jumping back and forth. It has subtle Red Riding Hood themes, but gives off more Supernatural/police procedural vibes in an Urban Fantasy setting. There are Reapers, the Horsemen, shifters, and a serial killer, oh my!
I enjoyed the twist at the end and felt like the story was wrapped up well, but a bit quickly. I liked the found family aspect of the Reapers. I just wished I was more invested in the story and the characters.
I think being aware that you’re jumping into a world where more of the world building and character development are in other books would have been nice to know.

I think the premise of this story is really interesting & i like the different supernatural characters but there was a lot of characters & filler overall. It’s a sort of urban paranormal mystery that reads like a criminal investigation story where you see the killer’s POV.
The FMC Nikita is a werewolf assassin & we follow a few other characters that are Reapers who work at a Station trying to solve the murders. There is a long list of characters that includes Death, the devil, a talking cat named Constantine, good ol’ Bob, Bartholomew, & severallllll more characters.

I will start this by saying the characters in this book they've got some weird names. And I can't take a man named Bob seriously as a MMC. Reminded me of Bob the Builder. Not sure why.
I like this book. It's pretty interesting. The concept is also quite fun.
However my problem is it seemed that Bart & Bob were 1 story and Nikita was another. Like there was barely any overlap (besides the bodies of course) it felt like jumping from 1 book to another.
Lemme explain.
Now I liked that whole Station, supernatural world governing sort of thing. That was pretty interesting. The Reapers (and the interns) who investigate and maintains the peace in Haven. I like that. Their banter is spectacular and I really liked everyone (Bart is my favorite). They are silly, crazy and so much fun!
Honestly if the entire book was just them trying to figure out who the serial unaliver was (without Nikita's perspective) this would probably be a 5 star read. They could've even kept the whole reveal at the end. I still think it would've been a 5 star read without Nikita's perspective. That's just my personal opinion.

Loved it. This author is quickly climbing the favorites list. Such a wide variety of characters. We had werewolves, witches, pixies, reapers, and the devil himself. Not to mention Constantine the cat. D.C.Gomez does a fantastic job of sucking you into the story and making you fall in love with each character. I love banter between characters and it had all the elements of a great fairy tale retelling.

Not at all what you would expect going into this novel. The first chapter was super interesting and I thought it was going to be a really neat take on Little Red Riding Hood….. except Red isn’t even a main character in this book. I don’t even think it’s fair to call this a LRRH retelling because she’s not even in a quarter of this book. She’s a side character.
This is a Four Horsemen based story. It’s about Death’s reapers. Honestly, this book was VERY confusing and I almost DNF’d it. It was supposed to be a Cop thriller theme, but even that wasn’t as major to the plot line as it should be. There was just too many side quests going on.
I told my husband at one point while reading that this book makes you feel like you’re watching Naruto. You get one episode (chapter) that has the main plot line in it but the next 10 episodes (chapters) are just filler.
I think if the author would just focus on the main story line instead of all the sub plots, it would have been a much better story.

This was definitely a whole new twist on the classic Red Riding Hood tale! I devoured the idea that red riding hood was an assassin seeking revenge on werewolves. She seduces, lures, and kills her targets. I loved that they always had no idea she was a wold under disguise.
The other main characters are connected to the universe of Death's interns and the Reapers from previous books and can stunt a readers knowledge and being more one with the story. It does however work as a bait and hook to get readers to want to learn more and dove into the other books. While it’s a standalone book, having prior knowledge of the series helps in understanding the character dynamics and how they interact with death.
The twist at the end was enjoyable, though it felt slightly rushed. Overall, it’s a good read. Highly recommend for those into urban fantasies, supernatural twists, and murder mysteries.

I am so incredibly honored to have received a copy of this book from the author. Cursed By Fur truly has such an intriguing premise. I also absolutely loved Nikita and reading things through her POV. She is such an epic character. I did however have some issues with connecting with some of the other characters in the book and feeling confused about what was happening during parts of reading the story. I’m thinking the reason for that though is because the author has a whole other series called The Intern Diaries. I only discovered this after reading this book and I would honestly recommend reading that series first before reading this book since it is an introduction to the Reaper’s Universe. I think I would have enjoyed this book so much more if I had done that. Regardless, I thought there were some really amazing twists and turns throughout the story that definitely shocked me and I enjoyed them a ton. Overall, I plan to check out The Intern Diaries and reread this book again after reading that series.

I definitely really liked this book but feel like it was more of a mystery/thriller than a romance which is what I was expecting. It was also a novella in an existing book universe which made it a little confusing but it was easy to catch on.
I really enjoyed the characters of this book and the family they created. Everyone had their own personality that stood out really well. The friendships between everyone were so wholesome and made you love them despite not knowing how they got to where they were.
The mystery part was so interesting because you know who the killer is but you also don’t when reading from the Reapers POV. The ending was insane. You understand the motive behind the killers actions but the plot twist at the end actually got to me. I wasn’t expecting that ending even if I knew the killer would be caught.
I truly recommend this book if you are looking for a supernatural thriller. It was such a fun read.

If you're like me, and you don't particularly care for retelling or remakes, forget about that part in the title. This one is its own thing in every wonderful way possible. It's maybe little red inspired. But its just an episode of a much bigger series.
There is no single main character. It's like CSI with supernaturals. Or Lucifer. Lots of moving parts. Lots of characters. I genuinely felt like I was watching tv as I read this. The descriptions are perfect. The dialog is laugh out loud funny. Hilarious. Witty. Wonderful characters that you don't want to say goodbye to. Thankfully there's a bunch of other books, which I have every intention of devouring.
This is a must read. Seriously, get it. I adored it and would gladly read it again!

Cursed by Fur is an amazing read! It gave me everything that I wanted from a fairytale retelling. You have magic, werewolves, witches, pixies, reapers, the devil himself, 2 of the horseman of the apocalypse. D.C.Gomez does a fantastic job of pulling you in and making you fall in love with each character. I love banter and this gave me more than enough to keep me satisfied. I love her twist on Little Red Riding hood. Nikita (little red riding hood) isn't the damsel in distress, she's a kick butt assassin that doesn't take no for an answer. This book will suck you in and keep you entertained throughout the entire book. Right when you think you know how the book will end you get thrown a curveball that hits you right in the feels. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves fairytales, action, and great characters!

Although it's a standalone I feel like you would need to have read other works to understand who all the characters were and how they operate with death to fully engage with their POV.

Little red ridding hood on steroids!! Why? Because this story just knocked me out! It was not what I was expecting from DC. Yes, she just threw some spice in there and a lot of more ingredients until the ancestors told her to stop. There are secrets, unaliving, shifters, witches', magic, technology, trauma and a lot of emotions. Nikita is not your typical Red Ridding Hood, this one will eat the wolf! We see Death and our favorite feline extraordinaire Constantine. And if you don't know who he is you are missing out. Who wouldn't want to know a social media addict, food loving, ultra powerful, will take you out if needed; talking cat. Do I need to say more? When you think things could not get worst, they do in Texarcana. What will our Reapers do, to save Halloween? Or at least make it out alive! I hope you love this story as much as I loved it!!!!

I will start by saying I read this as a part of an ARC reading for the author. I struggled to get into the story in the beginning with the characters. This is a Red Riding Hood retelling with a few added characters such as Constantine, who was a cat, death, reapers, werewolves, witched, and other supernatural beings. While I liked the story I felt as if there were almost too many genres in one story. I am a fan of all kinds of genres, some just felt a bit weird to be mixed.
I liked how the group was a found family, that they created for themselves among their friends and colleagues. The ending had a twist that I did not see coming. I may have liked the book more had I read the author's previous work (The Intern Diaries books). That would have helped me understand many of the people in this book. If you read it check out her other books first to help this make a little more sense.

This was a super fun book to read, especially during spooky season! The premise of the book is essentially a small town murder mystery except everyone is within the supernatural world that they are trying to keep secret from the normal population. This leads to the investigation of a series of murders of supernatural while dealing with supernatural politics. The large amount of characters and POVs draws you in and sucks you into the story. There are twists like in any murder mystery but the supernatural gives it a fun element that creates a perfect setting for Halloween. I loved the incorporation of different fairytales and aspects from typical supernatural stories to create a perfect blend of storytelling. Overall, this was a very enjoyable read and now I want to keep reading about the characters (which I plan on doing by reading the books that are already out in this universe)!
