Here it is: your guide to a Life in the Peloton. Whether you're an aspiring pro or just someone glued to the TV each time the Tour De France rolls around, this unique manual will help you understand the complex world of professional cycling. In his characteristic warm, down-to-earth, no-nonsense Aussie style, Mitch Docker draws on his thirteen years in the pro peloton to guide you through everything from getting results and signing a pro contract, to training at altitude and navigating the chaotic bunch in the biggest races. Mitch brings some fascinating insight on how to get into, and then survive, the toughest sport in the world.
Life in the Peloton reads like the conversational style so familiar to fans of the podcast. Mitch’s voice is ever present as the seemingly easy going and laid back character. But the content and insight to the pro world of cycling shows his depth as an ex pro and continued contributor to the sport. The balance is kept perfectly between funny and engaging stories and the nitty gritty detail of what makes a pro cyclist, showing us outsiders a glimpse inside the world tour of road racing.
As a relatively new fan of pro cycling, I’ve been reading books to learn about the sport. Mitch Docker explains many elements of the pro racer experience that I haven’t read about anywhere else. I definitely learned things about the pro peloton and team staff that were new to me. And also, he just seems like a good dude.
This was a fun one! Docker does an excellent job portraying the professional cyclist life through his use of humor and storytelling. It’s very eye opening and includes all the little details of a cyclists life. A quick read, too!
