Luke Cooper dreamed of flying. He was an Olympic caliber skier with a bright future, when a freak accident ruined his knee, and sent him into suicidal depression. A stranger, Dr. Henri de Salvo, gave him a reason to live, and a new set of "wings," thanks to an experimental medical treatment. With new focus, Luke turned to a career in medicine, a career that led him to accept an invitation to a secluded clinic in France where de Salvo continued his cutting edge - if morally questionable work.

Lured by the chance to help other athletes recover their lives, intoxicated by smooth cognac, beautiful women and dark intrigue, Luke finds himself drawn into another world. De Salvo has a shadowed past, and powerful enemies, and the French city of Toulon has its dark side. Through amazing medical breakthroughs, run-ins with the Corsican mob, and clubs where men fight for big money - and women, he searches for his own path. The question is, will he survive the journey, and can he live up to the age old medical adage, "First, do no harm," while following the message of his own heart - "First, do something..."

"Block 10 is an engrossing, intelligent medical thriller on par with the best of Robin Cook. I was hooked from the opening chapter and stayed up late turning the pages. Stacy Childs weaves weighty medical issues with heart pounding tension. I loved it!" -Robert Dugoni - Author of "The Jury Master"

Block 10 from Stacy Childs and David Niall Wilson is a very good medical thriller that centers around Luke Cooper, a professional downhill skier turned doctor, who finds himself in hot water after moving to France to practice in an experimental clinic. Luke is a brilliant Diagnostician whose only aim is to help other athletes to recover from debilitating injuries. Unfortunately, there are others with more sinister motives that want Luke all for themselves and are willing to go to any lengths to get what they want.

A fast paced and expertly narrated thriller that has multiple layers to the story and more than a few colorful characters. Overall, a very good and entertaining thriller.

Let’s see. I enjoyed the narration by Cory Snow I thought he did an excellent with the different voices for the different characters. I liked the medical part of the story. I would have preferred more medical and less fighting, mafia, and even sex. The medical theory was excellent but I felt like it was more secondary then primary to the story. I will actually read this book to evaluate it in written form vs. audio. I think some books possibly much different reading instead of listening. The characters were all very well developed and the plot complicated enough to be enjoyable without being overwhelmingly so.

*I received a digital review copy for free from the publisher courtesy of Audioblast in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.*

At first I was not sure about this audiobook but as I listen I started enjoying it - it is well written and the narrator does an amazing job bring the story alive and the characters also.
The basic is a man named Luke and it is a trip thru his life from a skier to a doctor, his rise and falls, his love life both good and bad and finally getting involved into the Corsica Mafia. He wants to do things that will help people from all sports and he did but at the same time he learns the truth about his mentor and the Corsica Mafia that they are working together to help the injured athletes but not knowing that there is a kill safe put in during the surgery that could effect them the rest if their lives and there time in the sports of their choice. You also live his life as a reckless person and does things that could in dire situations but he never learns till it is forced on him.
I recommend this audiobook so if you get a chance check it out

Nope. Perhaps, it was coming fresh from The Handmaid's Tale (and watching the series on Hulu), but the unchecked male egos in this book put me off. Badly. It is the November selection for our Book Club, and otherwise I wouldn't have finished it. On the plus side, this should provide some interesting conversation among the group.

This book is captivating it is a great story but so many dark twists it made me feel uneasy during parts of it! The darkness and the treatment of women was what lost a star for me. But it was part of the story so I have to give it a good rating despite the parts that made me squirm!

Block 10 is a suspense thriller by Stacy Childs with David Niall Wilson. The plot is full of twists and turns so you are never sure where the main character is going. The characters are very realistic. It takes place in France.
Luke Cooper was a downhill racer and a doctor and was on his way to the top. However, a tragic fall seemed to crush his skiing forever. The doctors told him he would be able to walk and to do some recreational skiing but never to compete again. Luke decided his life would not be worth living without skiing so he planned to commit suicide. He quietly gathered pain pills and calculated the behavior of the nurses. He knew the pills would not have time to work before he would be discovered. Before he could do this, however, he had a visit by Dr. Henri DeSalvo. This visit stopped any ideas of suicide and added the hope that he would be able to ski competitively again.
Dr. Henri DeSalvo was unique among doctors. He was doing miraculous things in the name of science. He managed to get Luke skiing and skiing at a professional level. He would never reach the level he was at; but he was still competing. However, Dr. DeSalvo’s methods were questioned by the other medical agencies. Just what was he doing and was it hurting or helping patients?
When Luke, now a doctor, returned to France to work for Dr. DeSalvo, he wasn’t aware of what he had gotten into. His first hint of something wrong was upon his arrival in France. He was hurried away by members of the GIGN taskforce and questioned. Before that questioning and his own questions were finished, he was released by government letter and left with Dr. DeSalvo. Would he get his questions answered or not? What had he gotten himself into?
The book was OK; but would probably be great for someone who is interested in this genre which I am not. I thought it was well written and had lots of action; but that action didn’t lend itself to making me lo really like the book. It is just personal preference rather than the book itself.

Stacy Childs has done it again. Her new and exciting novel, Block 10, is just as incredible as her last one, if not better. A medical suspense thriller just like The Boys of the Dixie Pig. Intrigue from the first page will forever lure readers deep into its enticing plot. The most thrilling complex plot of the year. Readers beware once you read this you won't want to put it down. There is so much for readers to read. An experimental medical treatment, an Olympic skier, suicidal depression and heart pounding danger. Dare to enter into the edge of your seat kind of thriller?

Block 10 is an enthralling novel . Readers who read this book will be on the lookout for the next masterpiece from Stacy Childs and David Niall Wilson. Two talented yet brilliant writers whose words will leave readers hooked. The main character Luke Cooper was an Olympic skier until he became injured and quickly spiraled into a depression. Until a stranger known as Dr. Henri de Salvo, gave him a reason to continue to live. Luke turns to a career in medical science. Once started he will be lured deep into a world of dark intrigue and danger. Men fighting for huge sums of money, women, and medical breakthroughs that will leave Luke questioning himself and leaving him to decide what to do next. Will Luke find the answers? Overall, I highly recommend this magnificent novel and look forward to the next, dark, fast-paced, and gripping thriller. I rate Block 10 a five out of five stars.

I was fortunate enough to pick up Stacy Child's debut novel, BLOCK 10, last month. What a great read! Childs weaves a complex thriller that keeps the reader turning the pages! An action packed, sexy story with a diverse group of characters; the dialogue is so well written, it's easy to distinguish who is talking. A must read for ski-bums and fans of medical thrillers, Plenty of twists in this as well...things won't be as they appear, and you'll love it! Childs proves himself to be a voice to be heard in this genre! l
