My boys! I think Tsuki's arcs is one of my faves. I especially love seeing Kuro and Bokuto being idiots together and Akaashi being an uninterested snarky little bitch. LOVE THEM. Also TADASHI!!! So cute! I can't waaaaaiiit till he gets his moment :')
All I have stuck in my head now is Bokuto's over dramatic 'HEY, HEY, HEY!' From the anime stuck in my head after this volume.
I.LOVE.THIS.SERIES.SO.MUCH.
Tsukki's storyline is one of my favourites, and let's not lie, we all know he's basically the MVP in Karasuno's matches after the Tokyo training camp...
I don't like it when Hinata and Kageyama fight. Sort yourselves out boys, please.
-TSUKKI ON THE COVER<33333 -yams on that one huge panel please yes<333 -i spy with my liitle eye b o k u a k a -"but you told me your girlfriend dumped you so you had nothing to do all day!" OMG HAHAHAHHAH I LOVE THIS BOY -"ooh he got promoted from shrimp to midget!" -tanaka: of you want to fight, do it where noone will see you! -AAA AKAASHI IS THE VICE CAPTAIN OMG UWUWUUWUW -haikyuu girls>>>>>>>>>>>>>> -BOKUTO'S STATS THO LOOK AT THEM STATS -baby tsukkiyama in my head rent free -AKAASHI'S STATS- OMG OKAY WOWZIES
i never really know what to say about haikyu. i love every volume so much. i think it's wonderful to see the characters learn and grow. also tooru was in this one so <333
We get to know Tsuki a little more and get to see what’s been swirling around inside his mind. After finishing this volume, I like Tsuki much more now! I think we all struggle with that mentality… what is the point in doing what I’m doing and why should I strive to be better when there’s always someone out there that is better than you. I’m not sure who I consider my top 5 boys of Haikyu but Tsuki is definitely a contender!
whenever bokuto & kuroo panels happen i just feel my brain leaking happily out my ears and what for
also i command appreciation for all of bokuto’s lopsided thinking and/or confused and/or smug facial expressions 🤨 HIS MANNERISMS AND THE LENGTH OF HIS KNEE PADS AND ACKGGHAASHEEEGH ALL MEAN SO MUCH TO ME
yamamoto, tanaka, lev, and kageyama doing a grand-scale dumbass watermelon seed-spitting challenge & already all doing concerningly well BUT WITH FUKUNAGA IN THE CORNER OF THE PANEL RAPID-FIRE PROJECTILE DISCHARGING NOT ONE BUT TWO STRAIGHT TRAJECTORIES OF SEEDS INTO THE GREAT BEYOND. inouka GAZES ON IN AWE. WHY DOES FUKUNAGA blow ALL COMPETITION OUT THE WATER ALL THE TIME. is being epic JUST HIS PERSONALITY
also concept of karasu is designed so well and i only became consciously aware of its sophistication this volume?? crows are far from the usual protag team mascot of choice to begin with but they hold up such a distinctive, well-chosen, & wonderful parallel to the karasuno boys?? adaptive, resourceful scavengers with good rein of their pride that have no shame picking up after & synthesizing the advantages of their ecosystem to refine themselves?? (literally all of their techniques come from observing teams that beat them at least one point in history—they took the sum of the parts & made chemistry, it’s literally the core of their strength??) with, like, an urge to survive on the biome of the court that borders on primitive?? (all those panels of hinata with his eyes dilated/watchful as his soul exits his body and heads for the ball WTH that instinct is so stunning & dread-inducing & i LOVE how hinata can be both a sunbeam AND the undisputed antagonist in any other player’s story??) & the amalgam of camaraderie, drive, and menace inherent in a MURDER of CROWS that makes it so impossible not to be physically killed by the strength of this underdog/dark-horse narrative IT NEVER GETS OLD??
also yamaguchi ripping tsukki a new one is something i needed so much LOL not me crying over this freckled trembly toughened-up pumpkin-leaf-hair babee in fact when that “what more do you need than pride” two-page spread came up i felt my entire existence spasm. WITHOUT YAMS TSUKKI WOULD’VE NEVER BEEN REDEEMED & I WOULD NEVER HAVE CRIED MYSELF TO SLEEP AFTER THE SHIRATORIMATCH
also i’m not ready to talk about how this volume is titled moonrise and “tsuki” meaning moon i’ll just let this literary gorgeousness simmer on its own
Karasuno get invited to attend a week-long training camp in Tokyo with some of the best high school teams in the country. This volume also has a focus on Tsukishima and why he doesn't espouse as intense a love for the sport as his teammates.
The training camp arc is honestly my favourite part of the whole series (that I've experienced in either the manga or anime). I looove the friendships between the high school teams, seeing the Karasuno gang improve through determination and hard work, and the introduction of some new characters (particularly Bokuto who makes me laugh every time he's on the page). The interactions between Kuro and Bokuto are a highlight for me.
I also enjoyed the spotlight on Tsukishima (especially knowing how things pan out for him later on. There's a scene in this volume that resonates in a much later game and UGH it makes my heart hurt and so happy and I can't.)
Shortie has started some kind of chain reaction which in turn has motivated the whole team except Kei. After getting lectured by Tadashi, I think Tsukishima is beginning to take volleyball seriously.
