Paranormal Romance #2

A Match Made in Coven

Rate this book
He’s a prime suspect. She’s supposed to arrest him, not fall for him. But what if he’s the only one she can trust? Rival covens, a forbidden romance, and supernatural suspense come to a head in this spookily fun, enemies to lovers romcom.
When magical enforcer Sarah Michelle Callidora gets a call about a gruesome murder in Salem just before Halloween, she’s ready for a long night of witchy detective work. What she’s not prepared for is her principal the infuriatingly charming and inconveniently attractive Lorcan Black, heir to a rival coven and a wizard with a past as dark as his family’s reputation.

Lorcan has two problems. First, his business partner’s been murdered with his enchanted dagger, making him suspect number one. Second, the detective assigned to the case is the stubbornly beautiful witch he’s expected to consider an enemy. Despite their centuries-old family feud, sparks fly—and not the magical kind.

To clear his name and solve the murder, Lorcan offers to team up with Sarah Michelle. But the closer they get to the truth—and to each other—the harder it is to deny the sizzling chemistry between them. With time running out, they must unravel a web of secrets—past and present, confront their deepest fears, and resist falling into a dangerously tempting alliance that could prove more heated than the case they’re trying to crack.

A Match Made in Coven is a bewitching romantic comedy filled with magic, mystery, and a love story that breaks all the rules. Get ready for a spellbinding ride that will leave you laughing, swooning, and turning pages faster than a witch on a broomstick.

If you’re looking for witchy books to read with light spooky vibes, a cozy fall witch romance with lots of banter, and plenty of magical twists, this paranormal witch romance is the perfect choice. With a captivating blend of mystery, humor, and charm, it’s a paranormal romance with HEA sure to enchant you.

Perfect for fans of Erin Sterling, Kate Johnson, and Jennifer Chipman.

The Love Theorem by Camilla Isley - A STEMinist Romantic Comedy Novel

Camilla is an engineer who left science behind to enter the whimsical realm of romantic fiction.

She writes contemporary rom-coms. Her characters have big hearts, might be a little stubborn at times, and love to banter with each other. Every story she pens has a guaranteed HEA that will make your heart beat faster. Unless you're a vampire, of course.

Camilla is a cat lover, coffee addict, and shoe hoarder. Besides writing, she loves reading—duh!—cooking, watching bad TV, and going to the movies—popcorn, please. She's a bit of a foodie, nothing too serious. A keen traveler, Camilla knows mosquitoes play a role in the ecosystem, and she doesn't want to starve all those frog princes out there, but she could really live without them.

I couldn’t finish this. It seems the author lives in Italy so maybe isn’t reading this the way somebody raised in the southern United States would, but I was so uncomfortable reading about how awful “the Blacks” were. In the US that’s a derogatory term for black people. I understand it’s a last name but since we’re discussing rival families she keeps referring to them as “a Black, the Blacks, etc.”

“The good looking wizard was a Black.”
“The idea of working on an investigation with a Black made her skin crawl.”
“Nailing a Black for murder would bring double satisfaction.”
“She’d spent her life hearing about the Blacks. About their viciousness. Their entitlement. And the injustices they had inflicted.”

Cute and fun. That always seems a little weird to say about a murder mystery, but it was. I like that there were two mysteries to solve. Solving the murder of Elijah, and then solving why Lorcan and Sarah Michele‘s families cannot stand each other.

A witchy Romeo and Juliet with some extra thrown in. She is a cop of the magical kind and his business partner has been murder with his magical dagger.
Although his buisness partner is human he still wants to know who killed him. This was a good love paranormal story.

Fun cozy fantasy romance! I love visiting this little enchanted town glamoured amongst the human small town and all its sassy, sexy, witchy townies. The MMC was swoon-worthy and the banter was spot on. Can’t wait to read the next romance in this delightful series!

I loved Sarah Michelle and Lorcan's star-crossed lovers story. It was dreamy and beautiful to read and also understand how their coven feud came to be. I really really enjoyed their story. I can't wait for Donatello and Andromeda's story.

DNF Because I cant get over the last name of one of the covens. Where "Black" could be a normal last name, the way it is used in this book makes me feel real icky. Like I get the Rival covens, of course one of them has to be the "bad guys", but the way they talk about this coven makes it seems.....racist?
"I could never trust a Black", like really????? The author could have chosen literally ANY other last name. Did the editor not realize how this would seem? I dont think the author meant for it to come off this way but yea I cant get over it

This felt like an appropriate book to read in October with all the Halloween stuff. it's sweet but a bit childish. The author constantly uses words like Hex and Gargoyle which I found silly bits that's me.🤷🏽‍♀️

What I liked: Mystery + romance is a good combination. Atmosphere building with the Halloween in Salem setting. Entertaining, mostly. Andromeda seems like a badass.

What I disliked: Pacing was not what it needed to be. The story did not do enough to get me as a reader to feel what the characters felt or to be invested in anything that happened (for example, the covens' grudge might have been better introduced as a prologue to better emphasize the importance and deep history of it). Female MC decides out of nowhere that she's in love with male MC after having nothing nice to say about him except that he's hot up til that point. She doesn't even thank him for saving her life. The only moment that felt like convincing chemistry between them was early, in the courtroom scene. Female MC changes her mind every 2 seconds, depending on who she's talking to. The main mystery was solved pretty anticlimactically, before a new "mystery" was introduced, but it wasn't much of a mystery because the victim simply named the perpetrator, and it had basically no emotional weight because the perpetrator was someone long gone and otherwise inconsequential to the story. One GAPING hole in the history: how does her great-grandmother have descendants if she was killed on her wedding day? (Pretty sure remarrying was not a thing back then). And the implication that if their wedding had happened, FMC and MMC would be related was always in the back of my mind.

Just not for me but not objectively bad: She has wings(?) and they can be pleasured(?) which I was just not mentally prepared for. Also, not enough smut content for me--basically only one scene which lacked detail.

Would I read more from this series? Probably not, but Andromeda does seem cool, so maybe.

Overall, I found it poorly written and poorly edited, but still an entertaining enough read. Sadly, I've read better-written stories for free on Literotica.

This was such a fun, cozy spooky-season read. The Halloween atmosphere was immaculate and I flew through it.

I think my favourite part was learning about the history behind the coven feud. There was already so much tension between Sarah Michelle and Lorcan, so finding out where all that bad blood came from made their dynamic even more interesting. I kept wondering how they were going to deal with centuries of family rivalry while being forced to work together on a murder investigation (**they dealt with it by temporarily giving in to temptation instead**).

Between the murder mystery, witchy vibes, family drama, and the chemistry between the main characters, this was just a really entertaining read. If you’re looking for something light, atmospheric, and perfect for spooky season, this is definitely one to pick up in October.

Once again, I should have saved this to read around Halloween. It would fit in better with the season.

This second book in the series was just okay. It wasn’t really memorable but still it was a nice, light read.

The spice is more closed door so don’t expect much of that. But I did like the coven feud storyline which was second to the solving the murder storyline.

I would give this one also 3.75 stars. Definitely a quick read. No epilogue, but I did like the chemistry between these two.

Audiobook

A super easy listen that doesn't ask too much of its readers. Not a deep mystery, not much suspense, cute romance.

I was so waiting for this book to come out and am so disappointed that it just wasn't my cup of tea.
The atmosphere is great, the mystery is fine, but as for the rest - it's just too much telling instead of showing. I guess because of that I couldn't feel the connection or attraction between mcs. The feud between the families and a flippant attitude of Lorcan also didn't feel believable. DNF at 48%

This was a cute cheesey quick read. I think one or two open door scenes but easily skipped. Minimal language. Some parts were a little cringey, but overall it was still a cute storyline!
