Who knew fake dating your ex’s brother would result in real feelings?
When Elizabeth’s boyfriend cheats on her with her work nemesis, she decides to get revenge by hooking up with his hot older brother. Sam sees through her poorly thought out ruse but challenges her to get her revenge in a different way - fake dating him.
After Roger tries to bully his way back into Elizabeth's life, she agrees to Sam's plan since there's a big Halloween event where she expects to see her ex.
The more time they spend together, though, the harder it is to remember it's all a mask. Elizabeth is determined to protect her heart from another man who doesn't deserve it, and Sam has reasons of his own to be wary. However, spending so much time together has both of them questioning what they know about relationships and desire.
Will they overcome their preconceptions and the forbidden nature of their relationship, or will Sam ghost her once Halloween is over?
Enjoy this Halloween treat between a good girl and the big bad wolf who rescues her.
I live in the southern US with my husband, kids, and a cat who rules the house. I spend way too much time on the computer, and only some of it is looking at cat videos, laughing at writing memes, or reading romance novels. You can find me online (way too much of the time) at https://linktr.ee/pennyheart
Revenge is sweet when you know what you are doing. Though Elizabeth Stately craved revenge on her ex boyfriend, Roger Cheer, she had no idea how to get it. Elizabeth and her best friend, Gail, concocted a plan to seduce Roger's brother, Sam. Sam was supposed to be into no-strings encounters. Hopefully, he did not know who she was.
Things never go the way you plan them. Unfortunately, Sam did recognize Elizabeth. He, too, wanted to get back at Roger for the things he had done to him. He suggested that they pretend to date. A relationship between these two would hurt Roger more than a hook-up. This book gave readers a lot despite the length. Readers will feel like they know both Elizabeth and Sam and their motivations. Will Roger finally get what he deserves? Will Sam and Elizabeth get an unexpected treat for Halloween? I really like this novella. Spicy and just enough for readers to get in to. If you are looking for a cute Halloween story, this is the one for you.
Loved this quick read from Penny Heart! It’s about Elizabeth who found out her boyfriend cheated on her. What starts off as a way to get back at him ends up in the best outcome as she finds her HEA. Elizabeth and Sam had instant chemistry and I loved watching them fall for one another. It’s a great read!
In the aftermath of discovering her boyfriend of a year, Roger, cheating on her with her work nemesis, Elizabeth sets out to seduce his brother, Sam. It’s perfect because Sam is a playboy with no interest in any sort of romantic entanglement…except Sam recognizes who she is and figures out what her agenda is and he’s not interested. Instead, he offers to fake date her to piss off his brother, not expecting the sparks between them to turn into anything other than lust.
This was a sweet and spicy novella, that’s well written with good pacing. It’s a cute and quick read great for dipping your toes into the spooky season. I do wish that the conflict between Sam and Roger was more involved? Or maybe had a bit more substance. It was resolved more quickly than I expected/wanted, even for a novella.
Revenge never felt like such a great big treat. Elizabeth's boyfriend cheats an cage she wants revenge with his hotter brother. Can this trick turn into the best treat ever? Or will she end up heartbroken all over again.
This novella was a short, spicy, and sweet treat. Elizabeth is out for revenge after she discovers her boyfriend cheated on her with her work nemesis. So she decides to go after his much hotter and older brother, Sam. Well, Sam is a playboy and recognizes who she is. He suggests they “fake date” to piss off his brother. But what they don’t expect, sparks between them begin to ignite.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This story's plot and character growth were compelling, but Elizabeth's enthusiasm for food truly stood out to me. (I am her, she is me 🤣) The nods to Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf brought a smile. Overall, it was an enjoyable, quick read, and I'm eager to read more from this author.
Who knew fake dating your ex’s brother could be the best revenge ever?
🍬In Halloween Treats, Elizabeth’s plans to get back at her cheating ex take a twist when she teams up with his hot older brother, Sam. What starts as a “revenge” plot turns into something a whole lot steamier—and way more complicated.
After being burned by her ex, Elizabeth wants payback. Her plan? Seduce his brother. Sam, however, is too smart to fall for it.
Instead, he offers up a deliciously tempting alternative: they’ll fake-date to really get under her ex’s skin at the Halloween party.
But as sparks fly and fake kisses turn all too real, the line between pretend and reality blurs, and both Sam and Elizabeth have to decide if they’re willing to risk their hearts for something genuine.
What I Loved: This novella is sweet, spicy, and just the right treat for Halloween! Elizabeth and Sam have sizzling chemistry, and the playful banter is to die for. You can’t help but root for Sam as he helps Elizabeth not only get her revenge but also rebuild her confidence.
And the tension? Oh, it's chef's kiss. It’s a quick, satisfying read that will definitely give you Halloween vibes and maybe make you crave some “treats” of your own. 😉
Favorite Quotes: 💬 “You’ve been dating my brother for a year. Did you honestly think I wouldn’t know who you were?” 💬 “Granny, what big teeth you have.” “The better to eat you with, my dear.”🔥 💬 “Don’t do that... I’m obviously an idiot who can’t be trusted around a good dimple.”
Final Thoughts: Halloween Treats is the perfect spooky-season novella with a dash of romance, fake dating fun, and a reformed playboy that’ll steal your heart.
If you love quick reads that balance humor, heat, and a bit of Halloween magic, this one’s for you!
It’s a satisfying bite of sweet and spicy goodness. Don’t forget the yummy recipe at the end!🧡
I loved Sam from the outset of this book. Elizabeth took a little bit longer, but she grew on me. Roger though, just no. Not sure he could grow enough to get to my likeable stage. That's the thing with the characters Penny created for this novella, they are so well defined its easy to make those emotional decisions. (Development like that in a novella of this length deserves kudos. 👏) Sam and Elizabeth are linked via Roger (his brother/her ex). He sees through her revenge scheme but offers her an alternative. She is indecisive. That's my biggest issue with her character. Elizabeth makes emotional decisions, then may or may not follow through. Given her age and experience, perhaps it's not all that surprising. Receiving support and encouragement bolsters her confidence and ability to make concrete decisions (without waffling). It's that growth that increased her likeability factor for me.
The one thing Sam did that bugged me was basically absolve the women of accountability regarding Roger, blaming his charm or whatever for their choices. Nope. They made decisions, especially Melissa. His guilt (which shouldn't exist) is blinding him to her choices and accompanying actions. (Just my 2 cents.)
Sam and Elizabeth started with one thing in common... betrayal by Roger. Would they find there were more? This story not only grabbed my attention, it maintained it. I was sad to see it end as I was hoping to spend more time with them (and maybe learn what came of the wolf mask). I did receive this book as a gift copy and voluntarily provide this review. Happy Reading Y'all 📚
Steamy and short. This story was what I wanted in a spicy novella centered around Halloween. Elizabeth is a young woman out for revenge. Her ex-boyfriend cheated on her with her nemesis at work, and to get back at him, she finds his brother. Once she meets Sam, she realizes that she's not only attracted to him, but that she can't go through with her plan. It's not until Roger, her ex-boyfriend tries to bully his way back into her life that she reaches out to Sam again to get his help. Together they come up with a plan to dissuade Roger from approaching Elizabeth anymore, but that only seems to fuel his angry and resentment for his older brother.
For a novella, this was such a tasty and great read. I feel like everything that happened was realistic and all of the characters found a way to be mature in the end. I loved the relationship between Sam and Elizabeth, and how the dynamic changed for them, but still had tact.
Perfect for Halloween month - I love this blurb alot "To my darling Sweetie. I’ll always be Morticia to your Gomez." As I love the Addams family - love this sentence "Enjoy this Halloween treat between a good girl and the big bad wolf who rescues her." - Elizabeth loves reading spicy books as this was her fantasy "I bet he’d let me do all the things I’ve read about in my spicy books but never got up the nerve to try. Hell, he probably invented some of them." - I would of done the same I'd my boyfriend was cheating "Hell, Roger didn’t notice when I caught him screwing my work nemesis until I threw his stupid dinner at him." Good job Elizabeth - Elizabeth gets the perfect revenge for Roger by going after his older brother - I love the nickname "Little Red." That sam gave Elizabeth - perfect read this book is . I enjoy it alot and it was perfect for Halloween reads
Elizabeth was cheated on by her ex with her work nemesis and she was seeking revenge by way of her ex’s hot older brother Sam but her plan is poorly thought out and she decides to back out of her revenge scheme but not before Sam convinces her to go about it another way by fake dating him. But as they spend time together Elizabeth starts to develop feelings for Sam and she doesn’t want to be hurt again. So her and Sam decide to go to Elizabeth’s job annual Halloween party because she knows her ex will be there and then he’ll get to see Elizabeth with her new boyfriend. This was a short and quick steamy read with some drama and a HEA. I would recommend this book to fans of the Author or to those that like spicy stories with plenty of steam. I was gifted an ARC but I am voluntarily leaving my own opinion in this review.
Halloween Treats Cat’s Stats MMC/FMC- Sam and Elizabeth Genre- Contemporary Holiday Romance Length- about 118 pages plus recipe Heat- they do the things and name the parts. Very lite BDSM. Series? Y Safety? Y Triggers- Sex, Language Tropes- Fake Dating, Meet Awkward, Revenge, Cheating Ex, Dysfunctional Family FTW, Hey There Little Red Riding Hood Mewsings What I liked- this story is light and fun. It’s easy to fall in like with Sam. He’s made mistakes in his past, but he’s learned from them and moved on. And Elizabeth is easy to relate to. What I didn’t- Sam didn’t help her when Roger grabbed her arm and wouldn’t let go. It’s the one thing that kept me from totally falling for Sam.
Who doesn’t love a fake dating theme? When Beth is cheated on, she goes looking for the older brother of her ex, desperate to find vengeance. They come up with a scheme, both of them needing their own retaliation against Roger for his selfish ways. Sam is a bombshell of a man who doesn’t do relationships. When it comes to women, his heart is impossible to penetrate. Beth is hurting after being cheated on by a man she thought she could trust. But Sam finds a way to sneak past her defenses without even trying... This was a sweet ride. This pair gets more than they counted on when they decide to team up, including plenty of Halloween shenanigans and delicious treats. If you’re hungry for some holiday fun, try out this spicy short!
Just what I was looking for in a Halloween novella! This is a low-stakes revenge book that turns steamy and spicy. Elizabeth’s good-for-nothing boyfriend cheats on her with her work rival and she wants to get him back. She gets the idea to date his older brother as payback, but chickens out when it’s time. Don’t worry, they loop back, and that chemistry is off the chart. It is a very realistic book and I call it low stakes because nothing too bad happens, which I appreciate since I’m not usually into revenge books. This book has heat and Halloween while still being short and sweet. Highly recommend!
A perfect little treat before we dive into Halloween! This was a great novella, full of sugar and lots of spice! When she finds out her boyfriend cheated on her, Elizabeth is hurt and done with Roger. What she doesn't expect is to get close to his brother.
Sam hasn't been interested in dating for quite some time, but when he starts spending time with Elizabeth he's starting to think that may be changing. Romantic, sweet, and with a little bit of suspense, this was a nice novella to squeeze in this month!
Novellas usually have a hard time catching my attention because the character development is too quick. However, I found with Halloween Treats, Penny did an excellent job at developing her characters and getting my emotions involved. Very quickly I found that Roger is disgusting. He made me want to climb through the pages and smack him over the head. I love how the relationship was carried out between Elizabeth who trusts too much and Sam who doesn't trust enough. Very easy quick read for a Sunday morning cuddled in bed. Very curious to see if Penny will continue their story ❤️
When she finds out that her bf cheated on her, she does the most reasonable thing possible, goes after his brother.
Enjoyed this fast paced, fake dating novella with a bit of spice.
“And so we’re clear, the only reason I wouldn’t have fu*ked you is because everything about you screams relationship. You’re hot as hell, but I don’t do relationships. And I don’t fu*k women who don’t have casual s*x. But for the duration of this fake relationship, we’ll have to pretend to be attracted to each other. Can you do that?”
This story was good by Penny Heart. This is the second one I have read from her and I enjoyed it.
Elizabeth was dating Roger and caught him in the act with someone else. Sam is the ex's brother. She set her sights on Sam to get revenge on Roger. Sam saw through the act that she was putting on and shot her down. She wanted to fake date her to get through the work Halloween Party.
Will they try to fake date each other to get through the Halloween Party? Will they become friends? How will Roger react? Will Elizabeth and Sam become a real couple? Let's finish reading to find out!
Halloween Treats is a great seasonal fake dating read.
Sam was amazing with Elizabeth. They had instantaneous chemistry and I loved watching them develop their relationship. Elizabeth was a quirky individual and I loved how she stood up for herself and didn't let anyone change who she was. She had her beliefs and she stood with them and didn't let anyone bully her into doing what they wanted. These two were super cute together and I loved all of their interactions with each other.
This was a great, quick read with a great storyline.
Revenge and romance combine in this short story about Elizabeth and Sam. They both have their goals of starting a fake relationship with each other, but feelings don’t always stay in the fake zone. For one of them, it takes finding the right person to make them change their entire outlook on relationships. If you find yourself wanting to read something that won’t take too long and has some moments of heat in it, then this is a good suggestion.

This book was about Elizabeth. She works for a real estate firm for the George’s’. She had just broken up with her boyfriend Roger. They dated for a year. She walked in on him cheating on her with a co worker. Her life changed after that. Her friend Gail helped her get her things from his place and she brought back his stuff while he was working. She didn’t want to see him. She had a plan for revenge which included his brother Sam. She didn’t go through with it. Roger wouldn’t leave her alone so she ended up calling Sam for help. Really good book. Quick read.
"Was it real for you?Us? Was it real?" is my favorite line from this book. Normally for me short books seem to go too fast in the storyline but this one was perfect, the story wasn't rushed and the relationship developed really great. I am smitten with the way Sam takes care of Elizabeth. I am grateful that I got to ARC read this book, it was awesome, really good quick read when your not looking to pick up a thic book.
Elizabeth and Sam are so cute together! She trusts too much, and he doesn’t trust enough. They’re the perfect complement to each other. Roger was so freaking ick, I wanted to reach through the screen and hit him with his baseball bat! A great and quick read for one sitting by Penny Heart, and I would love to see the story expanded in the future!
P.S. Elizabeth and I are one and the same. We only attend parties for the food!

When they say revenge is sweet they didn't realise how good it can be when you end up with your ex's brother and things are so much better, for you.
Walking into a bar to try and pick up you never realise exactly what will happen, especially when they person you are trying to pick up actually knows who you are and you don't know that. When Sam wants to get back at Ralph as well things can only go wrong or can it.
This was a super fun novella to get into the spirit of Halloween! Perfect fall read. Again, it's a novella, so just about 120 pages. That said, it went pretty quickly at times but it's to be expected with this short of a book. I don't think that any like major plot points were left out considering its length. I loved the character of Sam - he was well written, sweet and salty, and respectful while also steamy (at the right time, if you know what I mean!). Highly recommend!
A quick read, fast burn, and lovable characters. The plot is surprisingly developed; for a little novella, and it definitely reads like a full length novel. Penny packed a looooy of book into a small package.
Light on the pages, heavy on the spice, treats, and plot.
This was the perfect Halloween short. I loved how quickly the characters developed and the chemistry between Elizabeth and Sam. Sometimes I need a break from novels and series. I found this story perfection. I don’t know that I would change anything about it. Penny is a phenomenal author and I absolutely love her writing style. She doesn’t make you wait for depth and she provides plot. I recommend all her books!
Halloween Treats is a quick Halloween novella with fake dating, ex's brother, and some role play.
When she catches her ex in the act with her work nemesis, Elizabeth seeks some revenge of her own. What she doesn't expect is to find so much more with her ex's brother, Sam.
Their interactions with each other as they learn more feel very genuine and they have some great moments that will make you smile.
Overall, a fun Halloween read that you can fly through.
Can the big bad wolf be the hero of the story? Sam is the typical walking red flag playboy, but he is also the brother of Roder, Elizabeth ex. Sam is the perfect revenge for Elizabeth to use against Rodger after he has cheated on her. Plot twist, Sam sees excatly what she is doing and suggest fake dating him for revenge. Can they keep it fake or will feelings become real? This is a perfect short story for spooky season! Happy reading!
