In a kingdom faced with civil war, an idealistic prince must abandon the foreign princess he desires for an arranged marriage to an influential knight. Together, the prince and knight travel north to deal with an army marching on the kingdom’s borders, only to discover the biggest threat to the crown is the princess they left behind.
Prince Elliot had everything—wealth, power, the love of a beautiful woman. It wasn’t enough. More than anything he wanted to prove himself worthy of his crown. When negotiations for his sister's arranged marriage to Sir Blaine fell apart, he was asked to take her place and marry the knight.
Sir Blaine was adored throughout the kingdom for his strategic mind and feats of bravery. He was rewarded with the greatest gift a king could offer a knight—the princess’s hand in marriage.
But Blaine found the brazen Prince Elliot far more enticing.
Wow, this has to be a record of sorts, I couldn’t even listen past 5 minutes before having to DNF this book, it had my toes curling – and not in a good way. The misogyny along was cringe worthy, but add the juvenile dialogue, simplistic writing and the so so narration I’m cutting my losses and saving my sanity.
Pretty sure no author wants to be told their book is just "okay" in every aspect, but that's how I felt about Kayci Morgan's The Emerald Prince. The plot is okay since it's basically Evil Witch Wants To Take Crown For Self, Does Everything Necessary To Further Plan. The male/male marriage between Blaine and Prince Elliot was arranged by the witch to get the prince out of her way. The witch gave a sex slave to the princess to get her out of the way since her sleeping with a slave -and potentially becoming pregnant by a slave- would make her "ruined" in the eyes of their kingdom. The king pretty much just dances to the witch's tune. She even allows the prince and his knight husband to go off to the war-front to try to further her goals.
She's a pretty good planner, the witch. I actually quite enjoyed her machinations even if she was kinda like a sexy Disney villain.
All the characters were okay. Elliot is an interesting prince since he knows how spoiled and typically useless he is while Blaine is the perfect noble knight whose only really interesting quality is the fact he's gay. They have this instalove thing which also seems motivated by the witch. I really didn't think much about it except it was all pretty okay. Victoria is a great princess who I honestly didn't mind when she was a prude or a bit stuck-up since it was in character. Marla the soldier lady-in-waiting was interesting enough to be okay. Sex Slave Lorr was okay. They were all just---okay.
There's a HEA for everyone at the end of The Emerald Prince, not a lot of sex, quite a bit of fade-to-black sex, and I'd recommend this one to someone who just really had a hankering for a gay knight/prince story since they love the era. It's pretty okay on the accuracy for the era it's depicting even if it's a fantasy land rather than actual medieval Europe. 2.0 of 5 stars – A Fine, Fast Light M/M Romance (I'm excited to have won this as a Goodreads First Read – so thanks, Kayci!)
This is a fine book for those who don’t mind a story with more light romance than substantive plot and character development with their romance. For me, I preferred a little more of the latter, so this was just okay for me.
The plot was nice with a just a bit of fantasy, all be it a bit uninspiring – I was never fully invested or engaged. I found the plot to be uncomplicated, predictable and more convenient than credible at times – boy meets boy, boys have problems, .
The MCs were likable guys with some realistic issues, but not fully developed. The writing style was also a simple and straightforward depiction of mainly the action and characters, rather than a rich, descriptive prose giving a fuller sense of the settings, characters and plot.
Although less fulfilling for me, it was still a nice, quick read about a gay romance.
The woeful writing is surpassed only by the ludicrous plot. I was tempted to stop reading after the first chapter, but it had the hypnotic lure of a traffic accident -- I just couldn't look away.
I loved this book so much! I loved the plot that was in this book and some surprises you did not see coming. There is a happy Ending that will surprise you as well. Just get this book - you won’t be disappointed!

3.5
I have really mixed feelings about this because overall, I enjoyed the story. But I guess the delivery fell flat? I don't quite know how to put it, simply that it was missing that 'something' that completely grabs you into the story. I had a hard time finishing it because I just wasn't as enraptured by the story as I hoped I would be.
So, was I disappointed from what I read in the description to what I actually read? Yes, a little.
But the book overall was enjoyable.
The things that bothered me most was how it changed from POV. However, in actuality it was essential to have those different POV but it didn't stop it from being annoying. I don't know if there could have been another way for her to execute it or write it but the fact is I wasn't able to really enjoy it.
Be warned, for those of you that hate this trope(And I know lots of people that do), this story is a bit clichéd in that
Well, in the end, I don't regret reading it at all. I will pick up another book from this author. ;)

I received this book from StoryCartel in return for a fair and honest review.
Like most recent fairytales, this borders more on the light and fluffy than the dark tales of old so there is nothing in this story that is liable to be offensive or scary in any way. Although there are some 'spicy' scenes there is nothing here to blow the lid off, it is all discrete.
This is an intriguing story in the case that it is the minor character of Victoria that actually comes across with more interest than the main male characters. They are both there and, of course, part of the story, but there isn't really much depth to them.
This world is an interesting one, with the gods and the other races, and could have been developed into a bigger novel with more interest going on. Unfortunately for me, the whole thing just wasn't developed enough - for example, when the Prince and the Knight go off on a mission that a sulky prince has demanded, it could have been so much more. Instead they go, they arrive, sort out major problems in one paragraph, meet old love, everyone's happy.

This book gets 3 stars from me. First of all I did enjoy reading the book, but was a bit disappointed at the end. From the cover I expected romance, maybe some erotica and fantasy. None of those really met my expectations. There's romance, but the charaters are not deep enough to fully capture their romance. There's also a bit of erotica, but just as it starts, it's done. I don't mind no erotica, but don't start and not finish it. That bothers me. Although the book is set in a fantasyworld, that's everthing about it. The fantasy part is not used as part of the story, just to create a living world.
That said, I did enjoy the book. It's an easy to read, not to long story with a bit of everything. I also enjoyed the editing, which was flawless. Way to often I read e-books that still need another round of editing. I don't understand you would like to sell a book like that, cause I sure don't want to pay for it!
This short novel is about Elliot, the Emerald Prince, so called for his beautiful green eyes, who is the heir apparent to the land of Tys. He has a sister, virginal, scrupulous Victoria, who (we are supposed to believe) is far more suited to ruling, but due to her gender, is destined to be married off to the land's bravest and most revered knight, Sir Blaine, to strengthen alliances between their powerful families. Elliot is an easy going guy, who would much rather marry the kingdom's royal refugee, the beautiful and rebellious Zariya, than rule Tys. But neither prince nor princess get what they want, for Blaine doesn't really want to marry Victoria, as he is gay, and Elliot cannot marry Zariya, who as an exile, cannot possibly benefit his kingdom. When Blaine arrives to the castle to claim his bride Victoria, he falls deeply in love with Elliot practically at first sight, and with some magical assistance, he requests and is granted Elliot's hand in marriage. There are some good points to the story. I found the premise of the plot promising and romantic, a knight in love with a prince who is in love with another, must try his best to gain his prince's love. I also liked that Victoria was somewhat likable and not a complete harridan as women are sometimes portrayed in MM romance, and Zariya appeared to be a complicated character, whose motives for assisting Blaine with Elliot were hard to guess. Zariya seemed to like playing cupid, trying her best to make sure neither sibling was unhappy in love. I also enjoyed how Elliot wasn't one bit freaked out about having to sleep with Blaine, it seems that in the kingdom of Tys, sex between men was not taboo, and his unwillingness came from his romantic feelings for Zariya, not from lack of physical desire. But the novel left me with a sense of dissatisfaction. It seemed disjointed, like the author was trying to make it a MM romance, as well as making it a girl power story about Victoria, and failing at both objectives. We know Blaine is deeply in love with Elliot, and the prince is certainly kind to Blaine, treating him as a friend, but the moment of truth when Elliot realizes he's in love with Blaine comes off as disingenuous, almost as a last-minute reaction to Blaine instead of a passionate falling in love. I also found myself questioning Victoria's behavior, and how quickly she goes from modest wait-till-the-wedding-night abstinence to hey, I'm-jumping-on-this-guy-I-just-met sexual liberty. The villain's behavior also left me with questions, if magic is so powerful, why go through such convoluted measures to take over the kingdom? The love story between Blaine and Elliot didn't exactly thrill me either, and although the wedding rituals and ceremony were charming, the intimate scenes didn't light the house on fire. The end of the novel also left me frustrated, it was unexpectedly cowardly of Elliot and Blaine, and too easy for Victoria, and we don't even know what happens to the evil villain, other than jail and a sentence. It almost felt like the well of ideas ran dry at the end, or maybe it was the set up for a sequel. Either way, it left me disgruntled. There were good points in the story, but ultimately, it didn't seem cohesive and the characters were not as well developed as they could have been.

I liked the conclusion of this story, but I will admit the beginning had me seriously considering DNFing this book. Although it does eventually get to an HEA, I felt so bad for the characters. The manipulation was a bit too over the top for my taste. For all that I selected this book in part because it is an M/M Romance, I actually found myself more invested in Elliot's sister, Victoria, and her story than I did the two MCs.
I think for me there was a bit of a disconnect between what I expected from the description and the story I actually got. The description isn't wrong, and in fact does cover the story, but I was expecting the sister to have less of a major impact in the story than she does and for the connection between the MCs to develop a bit differently.
A good enough and entertaining read, however it was one that left me wanting more development on several fronts. The two main characters were done well enough. Oddly, even though Blaine had less "on page" development, his motivations and actions in the story seemed more complete. Elliot felt far less developed although, generally, he seemed to feature more prominently in the story. And for how she could have been very, very one dimensional, Victoria was by far the most interesting character. She had the most development and her discussion with Lorr gave a glimpse of what the story could have been if Elliot and/or Blaine had been given the time or space to grow. However, it was a quick and easy read so I cannot complain too much, and of all the sprawling series that I've slogged through, this book left me wishing the author had at least committed to a duology as I'd like to see how far she could take the oddly philosophical world building started here in too some more far reaching directions and decision.

There were definitely parts of this book that I had to just accept without thinking too much about it, but as a whole, I enjoyed reading about Elliot and Blaine's developing relationship. I liked seeing Blaine's devotion finally break through Zariya's spells on Elliot - though I would have liked to have seen more of an explanation on why he felt that devotion and not just fate or insta-love.
The things that I didn't quite buy into were Elliot's complete ignorance of dipolomacy even though he had been groomed as the crown prince; how the royal family thinks that Elliot's decision at the end will somehow not cause a civil war with Blaine's father (now that Zariya isn't interfering with his greed); and if the gods are so involved in their followers' lives, why was Zariya allowed so much influence? Overall, I liked the story and I liked the characters, but I felt that the events of the plot could have been presented better - in a way that made more logical sense.
This is my first book by this author, but it definitely won't be the last. I loved the court intrigue and the unique situations that occurred. I do not like spoilers, so this will be somewhat vague. Elliot is the crown prince and his sister is preparing to marry Sir Blaine. Blaine's family held the crown before Elliot's family numerous years ago. He is not pleased about the pending nuptials arranged by his father. When they arrive at the palace, Blaine is fascinated by the Prince. The arrangements are altered for Sir Blaine to marry Elliot. So many things are just wrong in the castle and decisions that are entirely out of character for the King and Sir Blaine's father. There is a murder attempt, magical persuasion and true love. I enjoyed this book and would like to hear more about Elliot and Blaine in their new relationship. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I am in AWE of this book & it's talented author Kayci Morgan! It has everything that I love in a fantasy style book ... it's set in a medieval world, with lust, love & hate alongside with self sacrifice, some murderous intent & enough twists & turns to completely hold my attention throughout reading it all. The Emerald Prince really is quite an adventure, I laughed at, worried about & cheered on the well crafted & wonderfully described characters, who were written so well that it became very easy to love/hate &/or admire them. I recommend this book to everyone & I can't wait to see what Kayci Morgan writes next! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout & am voluntarily leaving a review. (But I would have brought it, anyway).
Such a beautiful love story between two men who don't know each other. The Prince, Elliot, is a "brat". He feels that he loves a Princess from a far off land, Zariya. He has a difficult time even liking his sister. Said sister is engaged to a knight, Blaine. When Blaine's family arrives at the castle for his wedding to the Princess, he is really apathetic. He doesn't know the Princess and feels like he's being manipulated by his father. Then Zariya smoothly manipulates everyone! And Prince Elliot finds himself married to the Knight Blaine. Wonderful story and characters. You will cry, cheer and jeer as the story unfolds!!

A very compelling book. This book had two great stories in one. The author highlighted the journey of a brother and sister. Their stories intertwined seamlessly. This was a book if betrayal, deceit, war and love. Totally great book. These two siblings and their loves was a well written story. There was Elliot and Blaine and Victoria and I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
So much more than the blurb... I do wish there had been a little more details in certain scenes and with regards to the characters the plot idea and the hidden twists were fantastic but never fully utilized I would love to read a more developed copy of this story - it was engaging I would enjoy spin offs for the secondary characters A good fantasy short with a touch of suspense and a dash of romance
A story of an ancient land and it's ways, involving a mixture of sexual melanges, both hetero and gay. The plot was interesting, but not too fluid for me. I did enjoy the story though and was pleased with the direction of the story and the way it ended. It was bit different from the usual M/M stories I have been reading and reviewing, but enjoyable all the same.
he loves the princess he is to marry but when his sisters marriage falls through, he has to marry the knight. they go to sort the trouble heading to them. although the real threat is the one they left behind. where will it all end up, wow

This has a good twist on your normal fairytale story! Not the sort of twist that I normally read but found it to to be very well written and just as adventurous! Fast paced, this has it all from romance, magic, adventure and of course a wicked witch!

A decent action-adventure story. Elliot and Blaine have a bit of a rough start. Blaine is truly a good guy and falls quickly for Elliot. It takes Elliot a bit longer. I liked that when faced with moral issues Elliot always stands firmly on the side of honor. There is evil to thwart, a princess to rescue and spells to undo to get both heroes to their happy ending.
I am giving this a 3.5 star rating for what my views ate worth. I enjoyed the story but I did feel that the characters and plots deserved a bit more expansion. All in all to fast and too all of a sudden. in taking this approach you miss the chance to build great charActers. It would have been better as a longer story building great characters rather than nice ones you'll forget two or three days after you read the book. Saying that Blaine and Elliot great couple. Another thing I liked about the book was the inclusion of the Victoria storyline.
I wouldn't say I didn't like this story. For the most part, it was okay. I don't regret reading it, but at the same time, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone any time soon either. It's fine to pass the time, but not something I would really think back upon or ever feel like rereading.
As a plot driven narrative, the plot for this piece was rather flimsy. Aside from being utterly cliched in its execution, the whole thing felt too rushed. We never explore either characters' feelings; we never see how their relationship develops. One minute Elliot is completely against the marriage and the next, he's all cuddly with Blaine...which I find rather hard to believe. The development of the main couple's relationship was rather rushed and very unsatisfying for me.
Not to say I didn't like anything about this story at all. There were a lot of little things I really liked. For instance, while the development of their relationship wasn't very good, the relationship itself wasn't bad. Blaine shows respect for Elliot its obvious he really loves him even if I can't understand why at all.
More than anything, I'm just a little disappointed because I was rather excited about this one when I saw the summary.

An adorable fairy tale with a twist. Again one of those "glad I didn't read the reviews" books, because I would have missed out on such a fun story. While yes it could have been fleshed out more in spots, it was a sweet perfect for the beach (or late night in bed) read. I'd love to see a continuation of the story, as I adored the Prince and his Knight.
I have mixed feelings about this book. It was a fast paced, light fairy tale romance fantasy with HEA, ofcourse.
yes, it was cliche. Yes, it was standard romance. Yes, it had a simple plot. But it was an enjoyable read nevertheless. For guilty pleasure, I totally kill for more M/M fairytale books!
i thought this story was well put together i was nice to read about love magic and witches as i read i thought i knew what was going to happen a few times but i was glad i was wrong so yeah i will give this book 4 stars and will be looking to read more books like this

I was excited to read this book, but then I got it and was disappointed. The storyline was ok but was lacking. The characters were not developed, which leaves the reader feeling detached.
I loved this book you have a Prince and his knight both characters have quirky fun humor. The plot is great with enough twists to leave you hoping for series. The world building is excellent and the secondary characters are well developed.
