They were each other’s first love in high school – in midlife they’ll be each other's last love too.
Tara Month after month, my friends are finding love through our local book club. No one can explain it, but somehow whatever happens in the books we read happens to one lucky book club member in real life. When we read a story about childhood sweethearts who are reunited later in life, I never expect that this time I’ll be the one to fall in love.
Patrick When I move back to my hometown, I never expect to run into my childhood best friend. I haven’t seen Tara in twenty-five years but the minute I lay eyes on her, I know one thing for I’m still in love with her. And this time, there’s no way I’m going to let her go.
“Hot & Heavy” is a short story in the “Boozy Book Club” series. Each book in the series is a steamy standalone featuring a couple in their forties and fifties, a nosy group of book club friends, a little bit of humor, and a sweet happily ever after that proves anyone can find love later in life.
Tara & Patrick were childhood friends. Growing up together & sharing common interests, especially baseball. As teenagers, they make a pact to marry each other if Tara isn't married at 30. Facing criticism from her mother & being laughed at by other girls, at 16 she thinks no man will ever find her attractive. High school graduation they lose their connection. 25 years later they reconnect & see those sparks!
Too short, perhaps; the ending is a little abrupt (though funny, in that he just kind of ignores her hesitation and moves in with her immediately anyway), and there isn't a ton explained, considering that they both spent 25 years apart, including having marriages to other people and (in his case) kids.
started off incredibly slow. In fact i DNF'd during the first chapter because nothing grabbed my attention. About a month later i scrolled further into the book and speed read, and the book was okay. wouldn't recommend.
