Iris, an English volcanologist, arrives in Iceland focused solely on her research. But when she meets Siggi, a charismatic local with a complicated past, his passion for showing her Iceland's geological wonders ignites unexpected feelings.
Cautious but drawn to each other, they embark on a short-term romance, promising to part ways when Iris's work is done, but their deepening connection challenges the boundaries they've carefully set.
When a volatile volcano suddenly threatens everything, they're forced to confront not only the unstable landscape but also their own hearts. In a country where the ground can shift at any moment, can Iris and Siggi find a way to stand firm together?
Set in the land of ice and fire, this is a compelling tale of love, risk, and finding the courage to trust again.
Victoria Walker has been writing romantic fiction since a visit to Iceland in 2014 inspired her first novel. As well as writing, she spends her free time dressmaking, knitting and reading an inordinate amount of contemporary romance, occasionally punctuated by the odd psychological thriller and saga.
In the past she has worked as a cinema projectionist, a knitting and sewing tutor and has owned a yarn store, all things which will no doubt appear in her books if they haven't already.
This series is light and fun and it has a great sense of place. You really feel like you are in Iceland while reading. I also enjoy the returning characters which make you feel like you are coming home.
As a geologist that graduated in the 80s, this was the dream. How I wished I had known that I could have gone to Iceland for my masters degree (had no idea that they taught classes in English). I have since visited Iceland and know I would have loved being there for an extended time. This was a super fun read as it brought into it real geologic issues that Iceland faces. It wasn’t hard core info so anyone can understand it but just enough to make me want to go for a 4th time. Wish I was younger and had thought about more possibilities for my career (mind you I love where I ended up just might have considered more opportunities if I had known what was out there). As to the book - loved it - best in the series and the love story and career issues read as very real. Off to read more Icelandic centered books.
An enjoyable, fun and topical romance combining the original eruption at Fagradalsfjall with the current on-again-off-again fissure eruptions at Grindavík, renamed for this purpose as Hraunvík (=lava bay). Top volcanologist Iris is in Iceland to test out her new advance warning data theory, and travel-bug Siggi is back home to earn over the summer to pay for his next trip - wanderlust keeps him from settling in one place for long, as he tries to outrun his past. As he drives Iris, who is similarly independent and closed off to any possibilities of romance, the two of them inevitably fall for each other, but are aware - much like Anna and Jonas from the first book - that this can only be a short term thing.
Or can it? Iris' great relationship with Bjarkey from the Icelandic Met Office and rubbish relationship with her British boss, Jay, makes an IMO job offer very appealing, but how will Siggi react?
It's always a joy to be back in Iceland vicariously through Victoria Walker's eyes, and to meet up with the gang of friends again, who feel like your own pals that you're delighted to hang out with once more! Long may she continue!
The fourth book in an interconnected series. I look forward to these ones coming out each year at winter, as they are the perfect start to my winter reading. I found this one really interesting as it included the eruption of a volcano but it was still a very cosy read. I loved learning more about Siggi, who was quietly mentioned in the previous books and discovering who Iris was as a character. I thought they made a very sweet couple and I have downloaded the bonus epilogue from the author which I hope gives more insight to Siggi's family.
I also love getting glimpses of the previous main characters just living their happily ever afters. The setting is idyllic and I would love to visit one day.
I was a little hesitant to start this one as I am not all that interested in volcanoes and scientific stuff, but then I reminded myself how much I love Victoria's storytelling and the other characters that I love to catch up with every time I return to Iceland. I am so glad I read this story!
I was so off the mark with my ideas of this volcanologist Iris and Siggi. I really loved both their stories and the glimpses of Iceland we got and the suspense and adventure, but above all, I loved feeling from being back in Iceland with all the familiar people from the previous 3 books. I really wish this series would never end!
Not my favorite of this series, which is kind of ironic given the subject matter. This couple just didn’t click with me. The previous books had characters and couples that felt believable, but these two just didn’t have strong personalities and their connection was basically just told to us. A lot of the story at the beginning felt like the reader being told stuff instead of experiencing it. “Mount Kilauea” irked me every time. 😜 I would still read the next book if the author writes more. I still like all the other characters and the setting! 😃
Wow. Loved this book so much! I had the pleasure of reading this as an ARC 🕺It did not disappoint and I’m going to declare that this is my favourite Iceland book! Siggi is literally an absolute dream and Iris is a strong independent woman who is literally thriving in life (and in volcanos hehe)! Lots of tension, a tickling of drama and lots about the beauty of Iceland 🌋🫶 Going to nag the author now about a book about Gudrun cause she’s literally my fave!!
I enjoyed the light hearted books in this series, primarily because I love Iceland. It’s fun to read stories set in actual places in Iceland, even though the romances are quite juvenile. But this was a disappointment. Siggi is a horrible person with red flags everywhere. Early in the book, it is revealed that he abandoned his girlfriend when he impregnated her and has abandoned his child. Everyone seems to treat that lightly and as if HE has been harmed. 🚩🚩🚩
This cute fourth installment of Victoria Walker's Iceland series is the tale of Iris, British volcanologist who, after traveling from Hawaii, discovers Iceland's volcanic wonders, discovers Reykjavik's small town charm, and discovers Siggi. Siggi, a nomadic adventurer, shows Iris some of Iceland's geology through his job as an outdoor tour guide, and she falls for him, the town, his friends, and Iceland's volcanic potential.
4th book in this fun series that takes place in Iceland. Iris is an English volcanologist and arrives in the country to test a new system of early identification she has been working on on. Little does she know that there is more to Iceland than the volcanos and she soon falls for Siggi, who is a bit commitment shy. Both parts of her life collide in this fun read!
fluffy and good escapism, enjoyed the descriptions of Iceland and of the volcanos and of the volcanologists job. Story was fine but predictable and not what kept me involved. Did not like how lightly they treated Siggi's abandoning his pregnant g/f and daughter.
I’ve really enjoyed this series to date, but this entry was the best. Told with a good mix of Siggi’s and Iris’ point of view. Loved the geological references and the adventure descriptions.
Unfortunately my least favourite of the Iceland series, as much as I enjoyed the storyline of the volcanic eruption, I absolutely hated the main male character. he was so immature and selfish, I felt as though I was reading from a 17 year old teenagers perspective rather than a 34 year old man
I have enjoyed all the books in this series. They are a lovely way to escape and I feel like I know all the characters. I love the free bonus epilogue.
The fourth in the series of romance novels set in Iceland by Victoria Walker. Really well written and researched, I couldn't put it down and can highly recommend.
