In a world where women need their husband’s permission for everything, Claire is trapped in a marriage to a cruel man who thrives on her fear.
When he sends her on a late-night drive, knowing she's terrified of the dark, her worst nightmare begins. Stranded with a smoking car that won’t start, she hears howls in the distance.
Desperate to hide, Claire soon realizes the real monsters aren't just outside—they're already closing in.
What will be the price for being taken by the Wolfman?
I think this book had good bones, but needed to me fleshed out. The FMC had a lot of trauma and stuffed down all her emotions. Rivers got her to open up and he opened up in kind. However, the reaction of the FMC to being taken by a shifter when she’d never heard of them was off. Unless I’m missing something and she did know they existed? Idk. That’s an example of what I mean by needing to be fleshed out.
Spice: 2/5
Triggers: domestic violence, sexual violence, emotional abuse, abusive parents and other fam members, choking, murder, violence, car accident flashback (in dream), mentions of parent death
Omg, so much fun! I LOVED this. I was HERE for the wolf-man and his glorious snout and even more glorious revenge. I love a good novella that leaves me perfectly satisfied.
I read this as part of a reading sprint with my book club on Halloween. It was a quick read that moved really fast. Straight off the bat you are already rooting for the FMCs husband to meet with an untimely end. He was definitely top tier jerk.
I don't have an issue with insta-love stories (I actually enjoy them). This is one that I feel missed a step (for me). I want to be able to draw a connection to the "aha" moment when the characters fall for one another. I'm not sure if maybe I missed it but I didn't get that with the MCs of this book.
One thing that was very satisfying was husband taking up gardening. I was very satisfied with that outcome.
"That night, when Marvin had sent me out into the dark, I thought my fears would consume me. But instead, I found the very thing that saved me." That's all, that's the review. Read
This is 💯 sweet PNR fantasy , but oh so good!!This📙 is much too short😯 I really hoped to read more about how they navigated life after Marvin the evil was reduced to pushing up daises...😅oops I meant sunflowers ! Happy Reading🍷
I did like this but one thing that confused me about Rivers was his parents. He said he’s the only one that could shift into a human but that makes no sense. How did his mom pack up and leave with him if she was also a wolf? Why would his father accuse her of cheating with a human if she herself couldn’t be human? So she is able to shift then?? That just makes no sense.
Tw: domestic abuse on page, sexual trauma, parental death,
This is actually the first time I read a paranormal romance that took place in the 60s and I found it to be great. I love how Melody Lynch ties in societal issues within her story to give the setting more texture. Like the title says, this was cute and quick, but I will definitely be reading more of her work!
It started off a little rough (the subject matter, not the actual writing itself) but I ended up really enjoying this story. The writing is very well done. Claire's emotions and pain were written so well. Rivers is everything you want in a good book boyfriend. It was short and sweet.
This book was a short novella that could be read when you have a little time to just read. I really don't know what to say about this book. It was OK to just take the time away while the issues of the day pass by.
I truly enjoyed reading this paranormal romance. It was short, simple, and delightful. I was able to enjoy the novel during my lunch break, and it left me feeling genuinely happy and a bit giggly inside.
This quick page turner was just enough to keep my reading streak without a multiple day commitment. Fated mates and insta-love is what I enjoy most in paranormal romance. I enjoyed this novella and will most likely read the next one.
The pacing of this felt off from the start. It’s fine to take things slow in a full-length novel, but there’s no space to spare in 50 pages. Not the worst but not for me
This was a delightful and heartwarming short story. I was captivated by Claire's strength and determination to embrace life despite the obstacles she had faced.
4.5/5 Loved it! So much goodness packed into one short romance. Sweet and sexy. I even teared up for the hero and heroine. I really liked both characters. TW: DA
