The youngest and one of the smallest of his malamute siblings, Chicago Niska is a computer genius with a knack for getting his virtual fingers into any system he wants. While trying to finagle his way out of one tricky situation he and his family are already in by getting information their leaders want, he stumbles across something that will bring the country, if not the world, to a crashing end.
Now if they can just get what he found to the right people without getting killed in the process.
On the run across the country to the Paranormal Parliament in the hopes of helping all supernatural kind, he and his older brothers don’t have many options for refuge when every law enforcement agency is after them. There’s only one group in the area that has the power and protection they need to shake the heat… And it’s the one place where there seems to be a great deal of history between two of his brothers and the one vouching for them.
But is the price for the help they need more than they’re willing to pay?
Family always comes first to Chicago, so he makes a deal with the devil, and a few vampires on the side, to get the help they need to survive the mission ahead. And after a night of passion and a fantasy come true, Chicago has allies he never dreamed of—one even willing to risk his life, joining their mission to spark a relationship with Chicago. There’s not time for love when you’re trying to save the world though… Is there?
Things never go as planned, and instead of finding the man of his dreams, Chicago realizes he might end up with a broken heart at the end of the journey. It seems silly to worry about that though when millions of lives are at stake if they don’t get the information he found to the right people. Funny how Chicago can’t seem to focus on much else given it’s his first love and his family will probably live with Aurelo’s coven… If they’re still alive by the time they reach their leaders.
Ok, in one of my status updates (or maybe 2) I said there was a lot of sex in this book, that it was like porn but with an actual plot and good dialogue. There was sooooo much sex I was seriously tempted to add this to the "porn" shelf but resisted because that shelf is supposed to be about books really containing porn in some way. Wow, never thought I would be writing the word "porn" so much in a review that has nothing to do with the porn industry, lol. :D
There is a 4-way, not kidding, between Chicago and 3 vampires. Totally hot and while the first encounter is all on page, the rest are sort of glossed over but you get the salient points. ;) And then there are the tender sex moments (*cough* making love) between Chicago and Daniel, and then later between Chicago and Aurelo. Seriously, how did I not know that vampires and shifters could have sex marathons and not need to recover, like - ever? Moving on, but staying with the topic. ;)
Aurelo and Chicago have an insta-love connection, which didn't bother me at first because paranormal. But then when the BIG BLOWUP came - from out of nowhere people! - it kinda dawned on me that they have known each other for like 24 hours, half of which they were having sex. And that blow up? Yeah, it was dumb, and again like I said in a status update, totally took us to Dramaville, USA, which disappointed me and really left me reeling because where did that come from? I won't spoil what it was about, but trust me - it was dumb and blown all out of proportion and then their "make-up" journey was super odd and kinda head scratching. Though the make up sex was good. :)
So, I do recommend this for the smoking hot love scenes.
As for the story itself, I wasn't kidding earlier when I said I was enjoying the story. I found it interesting (before Dramaville detour), and liked the character interactions and totally bought into the fact that the brothers (Seattle, Boston, Phoenix, Milwaukee, Orlando & Chicago) were on a mission to warn the Paranormal Parliament (PP) that the US government, aka humans knew of paranormal existence and were planning to attack and kill all of them. The bulk of the story (not counting sex) is about the brothers trying to get the info they stole from the NSA to the PP so they could warn everyone. The brothers also add to the hilarity by trying to protect baby bro Chicago from amorous sex fiends, and clearly fail - epically. There are also sub-stories for the brothers in this book, but I haven't looked to see who gets their own book.
Aside from the unnecessary drama between Chicago and Aurelo, and the fact that this needed another read thru by an editor (or anyone) to catch the mistakes, this was still very entertaining and the 3 stars are because I didn't like Dramaville and never want to visit that disgusting place again! And the editing. Plus the improbability of the book as a whole, I give this a solid 3 stars and a desire to read more of the books in the series. I am curious because Book 1 ends on a kind of cliffy (so wasn't surprised by that), and I want to hear what the PP has to say for itself.
I did pick this up for free from Amazon so had I paid real money......I likely wouldn't be so blasé about the whole thing.
So, I read this because a friend of mine made it sound hilariously bad so I was very curious. Well, cue up the massive eye rolls, some serious head-on-desk action, and many many guffaws and giggles at some of the situations in this one.
First off, the character names are so bad - all named after the cities in which they were conceived. I thought only celebrities did this! Secondly, Chicago (our MC in this one) is such a twink and he doesn't even realize it. He is young, innocent, inexperienced and eager, which makes him great fodder for the vampires who decide to use him in trade for the necessary supplies that Chicago and his many (5) city-named brethren will need for ...something. I forget what the rest of the plot was, something to do with paranormals being hunted down by the human race and so the paranormals (shifters, vamps, etc) have to gather up the necessary resources to defend themselves from whatever it is that the bad men will do to them. Who can remember serious plot points when you've got a gangbang between the very horny, yet innocent, Chicago and the 3 vampires who need his pure blood so they won't have to feed frequently.
Yes, his blood is pure enough to stave off the hunger in these vamps, yet they never seem sated enough to leave the poor guy alone for a day or two. Miraculously, when he becomes a slut after many orgies, his blood remains pure. Not sure how that works. It may have been explained but, like I said, who can remember when you've got orgies to read about?
There is a sweet(ish) budding romance between Chicago and one of the head vampire's body men. Of course, with such relationship building, there comes much drama, insecurity, misunderstandings based on lack of communication and assumptions, plus a break-up/make-up. All this in the span of a book under 200 pages long!
While this one was severely eye-roll-inducing, it won't stop me from reading the entire series. It is just too fun to leave alone!
I started out excited to read this book, it had a great intro, it grabbed my interest right away, it had intrigue and a bunch of hot malamute shifter brothers, and I couldn’t wait to see where the story would go! I was also perplexed by the reviews by my GR circle of friends-they were so low! Then I really got into the book and the problems began to very quickly manifest themselves. It was AWFUL! So much went so wrong so quickly. For starters I was a little irritated by all the brothers being named for cities. Maybe one or two brothers, hey that might be cute, but all of them it lost its charm and lent itself to some lame, unfunny jokes throughout the story.
So the boys take off on a mission and make it as far as a vampire stronghold before problems arise and they have to leverage a night with our very willing young MC Chicago for supplies, a new vehicle, weapons and so on. Chicago thinks he’s negotiating for a romp in bed with the head vamp, but gets tricked and it turns out the head vamp wants the young shifter plus 3 others of his crew to join as well. One of the vamps tries to help Chicago unobtrusively and we get a set up for more burgeoning relationship between the two. I got an initial impression of Aurelo that he was kind, charmed and smitten with Chicago, just utterly taken with our boy. That impression changed later in the story…
The four men plus Chicago go off for a good ole fashioned orgy. Only there’s talking-a LOT of it, just talking and talking ad nauseum! So much so that it’s tedious! And I’m honestly not sure why the other two guys were there, the stars of the show were Director Fabian, Aurelo and Chicago. There is definite attraction between Chicago and the director and Chicago and Aurelo, and I actually think I might have liked Chicago with the director as a love interest. He started off cold but definitely warmed up to Chicago by the next morning. In fact, he’s so pleased with their night together he goes above and beyond what he agreed to give the brothers and ‘spares no expense’ to show his pleasure. He also agrees to let Aurelo go along with them after that vamp craftily gets himself invited. Meanwhile Jules, another vampire who is obviously a jilted love of the older brother Seattle, also gets told to go along for the ride. The potential was there for a good story line AND side line romance. Instead Aurelo and Chicago’s relationship limps along with lots of ridiculous pitfalls along the way-VERY CONTRIVED. Chicago is immature and whiny, and Aurelo is weirdly obsessive and yet wants to share with other guys! I at least had hopes for Jules and Seattle, but their relationship gets glossed over, one minute they are fighting, then they have a chat and are good to go. No romance at all!
And then at the end, I think what really tipped it over the edge was Chicago’s complete ignorance about Hadley (the owl shifter) wanting to be with him. How oblivious is this guy after all the comments and leering Hadley does?? So Aurelo says ‘hey babe, let’s play with him’ and Chicago goes back and forth with ‘is this ok?’ to ‘I love this’ to ‘am I cheating on Aurelo even though it was his idea’? So freaking stupid!! Apparently part of Chicago’s allure is that though he’s a self-described geek he is unaware that is he actually an uber-twink and all the guys want him. I never got the geek vibe off him, though he likes professes to know computers, mostly I got the ‘slut’ vibe.
And the big kicker to me is the rest of the series. I thought that even though it started off bad, it was only the first in a shifter series, and you have to give it a little leeway because usually the first one or two stories are not as fleshed out. But though there are three more books in the series, only one other book features one of the brothers! Why get us involved with the family and then veer off into unknown characters?? The second book features the annoying owl shifter Hadley, and it appears this time he’s to be a sympathetic character? No thanks, not interested! I try to be fair with shifter books and at least give three stars, because you know going into it that it’s not going to be stellar writing, you’re doing it to get your shifter fix. I was able to finish it without too much trouble, hence the two stars, but this one was just BAD and I do NOT recommend!
The cover is gorgeous, but on careful consideration I decided to pass on this novel. I personally can't imagine sharing the person I love with other men, watching them be intimate. That is why a three-way in a commited relationship is an immediate NO for me.
Melodramatic writing ruins what could have been a good story
Warning: This review might contain what some people consider SPOILERS.
Rating: 4/10
PROS: - There’s an intriguing storyline here. Lots of shifter types exist in the world all together, and they have to join forces to fight off the threat to their existence. I like it. - If you’re into kinky sex scenes (especially those that involve sharing partners), this book has an abundance of those.
CONS: - The writing is amateurish. It doesn’t flow well, usage errors abound, and it’s mostly telling rather than showing. “I suddenly saw black spots”…”Then I suddenly felt light-headed.” Etc. - The characters’ behaviors are over-the-top. Like, I thought I might choke a couple of times because the guys’ actions were so bodice-rippingly DRAMATIC.
Overall comments: I am intrigued by the storyline here, particularly since the story ends with an indication that the action/end-of-the-world plotline will continue in the following volumes. So I’m willing to give the second book a try, with the hope that the author’s writing improves with time.
This was........weird. First of all the blurb is kind of confusing when comparing to the book. For major instance.. there is NO hint that Chicago has a wild night with THREE vampires at once. Kind of turns him into a slut.. sort of. He continues on with the one that joins the group, proceeds to have argument/fight that seems slight out of proportion to me and then later one a threesome with gotten back together vampire and another.
Ok so the first encounter with all I can overlook. But the rest of the behavior just doesn't match Chicago's personality. It just doesn't mesh to me. Perhaps others will see it differently.
Then the ending by the time we get to where we are going and have a little show and tell with a twist, Bam T H E _ E N D. talk about abruptly moving on. I will have to read blurb on the next one to see if I want to bother continuing the story
So at first I was just annoyed at the characters' names but the story seemed pretty good so I was pretty happy. Then we meet the vampires and our little innocent Chicago catches the eye of Director Fabian and I was thinking "Oh hells yeah, here we go" then he ends up sexing with all the guards. Then we get a little one on one with Fabian again...yesss! Then he leaves with Aurelo the guard...and he's the actual love interest. WTF? Nooooo, we want Fabian. But wait, they argue about stupid shit and sex it up with another guy...again! Just no. What works in porn does not work in a romance.
I hate I spent the $3 on this book.. It was just stupid to me.. 1st off how do u have sex and have a full conversation ?? Just dumb!! 2nd I didn't get the whole Chicago and Aurelo falling out thing .. How do one minute ur so In love then he answers a question and you can't stand him and he playing you !! The whole conflict was just stupid!! And pointless !! The book was barely about anything with the downfall of all the supernaturals ... I got to 65% b4 I was like no more of this bullshit!!!! I'm definitely not reading another book by this author !!!
Cute story. The sex is a little...over the top. I also hated the talking during some of the sex scenes. Some is ok but the way it is in this is just too much.
The plot is simple and direct. The story isn't complex. I sometimes like the simpler stories. I liked that the ending wasn't cut and dried. The interactions between the brothers is funny and fun. The characters were shallow. For the kind of read that this was for me that was fine. I do hope the next one has less internal stories going on. I will accept it for this as the first book in the series.
As whole I give the story 2 stars, because the plot is somewhat overused and I'm not a fan of a MC sleeping with more that one partner but the sex scenes deserve 5 stars - it was awesome, it even got me hot and bothered. ^^
I was going to read this, but in the end, I decided not to spend time on a book I know will not be up to par for me. I will agree with another reviewer and say the cover is quite lovely.
This was not a pleasure to read. I know I'm not a writer, I know it's hard to do but this was poorly written and I found their names ridiculous! No, it was mostly ridiculous.
Chicago and his brothers have uncovered a plot to expose the paranormal world. As they race across the country to warn the parliament about the upcoming doom, they are chased by all law enforcement officers. They take refuge with a group of vampires, and Chicago offers himself up to get help from the vampires. What he doesn't expect is to fall for two of the vampires.
This was an interesting take on a paranormal book. It felt a bit rushed, but that could just be that I enjoyed the book, so I sped through it. Chicago develops an off and on again relationship with one of the vampires who join them on the journey across the country. Not sure if I'll continue with the series or not. A couple of parts bothered me but were not enough to keep me from enjoying the book.
Loved the premise but, all the sex and insta love relationship drama really knocked this down a couple stars for me. I hope the next book will be more on point.
This was so very ridiculously everywhere and it had the lack of decency to end on a cliffhanger. Not overly enjoyable.
I liked the characters. I liked the relationships they had. I cheered on Chicago making decisions for himself, learning more about what he wanted. I enjoyed watching the matchmaking and the little love connections. They were sweet characters and I would enjoy a good story with them. I simply don't think this was a good story for them.
This story was sort of everywhere. First the Paranormal Parliament (PP) is acting weird and trying to combine the family of dog shifters with a wolf pack, andthe ensuring it by forcing Chicago to be that alphas newest plaything. That would rank the PP at 'don't trust them' to me. But, our malamutes go to get leverage to stop the forced alliance. They find out the human government knows about paranormals and is planning to wipe them out. So they plan to bring that to the PP- who I already don't trust.
What ensues is the weirdest cross-country trip ever. These boys are on the run from the NSA and worried about the death of their people. Seems like a good time to pull the car over to the side of the road to have sex right? Or to have a giant dramatic breakup over a ridiculous misunderstanding? Or maybe a fantastic time to setup a three some? Yup, all these things happen. I get that relationships can happen at anytime, but the book sets up this idea of them being on the run and in danger. Then it proceeds to give them sex breaks about every two pages. Just felt weirdly contradictory to me.
It seems like there could have been a really good book here but it sort of just got away.
Flynn Eire's first Paranormal/Vampires book in the Shifting Reality Series......The Coming Storm!
Chicago Niska is the youngest and smallest of his siblings and he is a complete computer genius and this guy can hack into any computer he desires. While trying to get out of a sticky situation, he comes across something that will bring the world to a devastating end. His mission is to bring the information to the right people but that's if he's not killed in the process. Now on the run to the Paranormal Parliament (PP) he is trying to help all the paranormal kind but he and his male siblings don't have many choices to hide as the most ruthless government agencies are after them. The only ones that are willing to help Chicago and his family on their journey to save the world also have some history with his brother. Now they have to decide if the help they need is to high of a price to pay!
For Chicago, his family has always come first so he no choice but to make a deal with some vampires and the devil for the aid they so desperately need to complete and survive this mission they find themselves in. Now one of his allies is willing to risk his life for Chicago and join their mission and he sparks a relationship with him. Chicago might be thinking that there's not enough time for love when trying to save the world but lets be honest as there is always time for love. He might think that he has found his true love but could this guy break Chicago's heart or will it be the other way around! It might not be the best time to fall in love when your trying to save your family and the world but the heart wants what the heart wants.
I have to mention this beautiful hot cover as I am a visual person and this great cover really attracts and pulls in the reader to The Coming Storm. I liked this first book in Flynn's new darker series and filled with betrayal and the possible end of the paranormal species. I loved the sex scenes as they were so hot and steamy and written in such a detailed way that I found myself wanting more and more of it. The way the MC was desired sexually by so many men and at times more than one at a time as that is my kind of sexy story. I enjoyed reading from the characters POV as the author kept it moving fast and on point through out the story. It was fun to read this fast paced story of the characters on the run and trying to beat the clock type of book. What I thought was very realistic and some people might have issues with Chicago liking one guy and wanting the sexual attraction from other men but it's a true depiction of the lifestyle and he is young and coming into his own sexual freedom. This novel The Coming Storm by Flynn Eire is for anyone who likes to read about paranormal, cute guys, betrayal, love, drama, intrigue and the chase to solve the world!
"Complimentary copy provided by author/publisher for an honest review."
An interesting start to the series and it had a very confusing romance story. In the end I still was not sure who Chicago should have ended up with! The sex and action of this story would have made it 4 stars but
A new series from Flynn Eire, this has a darker story line then most of her stories with betrayal and the potential downfall of the Paranormal world. When Chicago Niska & his brothers uncover a conspiracy that could mean the end of the Paranormal way of life, they go on the run to alert the governing body of the paranormal's.
Plus Points: A great story line, interesting and a real sense of urgency in a 'beat the clock' way. Minus Points: Lots of angst (almost too much in my opinion)
One point I never quite got was why the main character was considered the 'man magnet' that he's portrayed as, yes he's cute and he is certainly doing the right thing but it was never really clear why all these other men were so drawn to him.
All in all a very good story, with an interesting, suspenseful story.
OK this was weird. I had a hard time following anything in the book. It seemed like a twisted fuck fest in a vehicle with no rhyme or reason for anything. (like a bad Wayne's World spoof) Sorry didn't even slightly work for me. Who has sex in a vehicle with their brothers so close.. eek .. just gross.. I will say Iam so messed up in the head that I am going to look at other books from this author to just see if this was a fluke. I can't imagine an author being successful at publishing books if this is the quality of them all.
While there is a lot of sexy times in this book, I was still interested in finding out what was going to happen next. Be warned, the lead male is often desired by a lot of men...and not one at a time either! Still, I enjoyed this little romp for some strange reason. Also, normally I don't like reading first person POV, but I got into it here.
I liked this new twist to the author's previous work under a different name. The characters POVs were interesting and kept attention and focus in some of the more fast paces scenes and I would definitely buy others in this series as they come out.
Really enjoyed this first book in the Shifting Reality series, it was packed full of excitement as well as heat, I look forward to seeing where this series goes
