I am grateful for this book. It really is the only one of its kind and as someone researching this topic who does not speak French well enough to read scholarly works in the language, again, I am grateful. This book has flaws. I won't point them out, they are minor. This book dug deep into something people don't know about. I am in awe of the author's research skills. Again, I am grateful for this book.
Screaming at the Window by RJ Dent is a gripping and heartbreaking true crime story about Blanche Monnier, who was imprisoned by her family for 25 years in 19th-century France. Dent’s vivid, empathetic prose and historical detail expose classism and injustice, though the pacing can lag. A powerful read for true crime fans. 4.5/5 stars.
