Haven Ever After #5.5

Victory for Vampires

Rate this book
It’s never been the right time for my mates and me. They had their dream of running a coffee shop in Ever, and I had mine climbing the career ladder at monster headquarters. Ambition has kept us apart for centuries.

But when a work assignment brings me to their haven, proximity reinforces how much we long to complete our bond and remain together permanently.

I come up with a radical idea to pitch to monster headquarters, an idea that’ll solve not only my long distance relationship problem, but the same problem for thousands of other monsters. But first, I have to convince my evil boss of the benefits to my plan. If I can’t get her on board I could lose more than my job. Pietro and Alessandro tire of us being apart. They want full time commitment. They deserve happiness.

It’s now or never for our love. Wish me luck.

Victory for Vampires is an MMF novella set in the world of Haven Ever After. It takes place after the events of book five, but doesn't need to be read in any particular order to be enjoyed.

Haven Ever After Series

🖤 Bookish Thoughts
I’ve loved the Haven Ever After series, but Victory for Vampires just didn’t hit for me. It felt like it didn’t add anything to the series.

The relationship between Valentina, Pietro, and Allesandro felt really forced. There was a ton of smut, but no real chemistry. Like we went from 0 to 100 with nothing in between.

And honestly? I didn’t like Valentina. I just couldn’t connect with her at all, which made it even harder to care about the romance. I tried to get into this one, but it just wasn’t for me.

Every new Haven Ever After book solidifies the fact that this is one of my all time favorite monster romance series. Victory for Vampires is a perfect bite sized snack. I loved the bond between the three main characters and the pining! My heart broke for them and all of the time they've spent apart from each other. Don't forget the spice because this is probably the smuttiest book in this series so far and it's absolutely delicious! You don't want to miss this one!

I knew what to expect going into this novella, but I shockingly enjoyed it more than I anticipated.

It follows Valentina, a vampire who works at the Haven headquarters and has been 'avoiding' her mating bond for centuries because she knows once she accepts it she won't be able to leave them and right now her dreams are more important. Her mate is another vampire, Pietro, but they have a third named Alessandro "Alé", who is just as much a part of the bond as they are. When she gets the opportunity to show off her haven-building abilities, she travels to her mates' haven, Ever, to visit them and study the town's wants and needs.

This was a smutty 124-page novella that is the dirtiest book in this series yet. I don't read for smut, but with how this series is and how short this book was, I knew to expect something mostly smutty. The smut was dirty and the plot itself was actually good, so I had fun.

My only negative comment is the fact the two men, Pietro and Alé call each other brother. I understand this is the same thing as 'bro' or 'dude' but I do not enjoy reading about people who have a romantic and sexual relationship calling each other brother, especially when they are doing sexual acts. Call me a prude, but it rubbed me the wrong way. They aren't related, but it was just weird. I don't understand why that had to be in the book, especially since the author gets rid of it halfway through the novella. It made no sense.

I would understand it a bit more if the same person sired them, they were related, or this book was set in the past. This entire series however is very modern; there are literal centaurs who wear sex pun tee shirts. So, I'm not quite sure why that needed to exist.

Hazel Mack brought me back to the Haven Ever After series with a BANG. Pun intended.

📕 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Victory for Vampires by Hazel Mack

📙 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: Haven Ever After character series novella.

📗 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀: E-book ARC on Kindle. 🆓 on KU.

📘 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲: Paranormal romance

📔 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀: MMF, all of the pining, fated mates.

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: After years apart, Valentina and her mates Ale and Pietro decide the distance is too much.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: I always say it takes a really good author to write a five-star novella. And boy, Hazel Mack has proved she’s that writer time and time again with the Haven Ever After series… but she outdid herself in just 130 pages with this novella.

This is hands down the spiciest of the series. Ale and Pietro have always been fun side characters, but it was fun to get to know them. Valentina was new, and such a girl boss.

I think I knew this was going to be five stars when I was like, panting at one scene and then crying the next. That range of emotions is so good for a half-day read.

My only complaint is I want more - and that’s the point, isn’t it?

𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I think that gif pretty much sums up how I felt reading this book. The spice be spicin!!!

I was so excited that we got a little more about the vamp brothers! I've loved them ever since we first met them in the series. And boy....do they know how to treat their mate.

There's not much world building or plot going on - seriously they are doing it a lot - so it's a great book to read if you want to experience that found family feeling of Ever but not get too much into details. There is somewhat of a bigger plot point at the end that I'm assuming will be part of the main series.

I love going back to this series and these characters. It always feels like coming home. coming... ha...sorry....

If you want horny vampires that like to share...read this.

So much happened in such a short book. Certainly a lot of unique spice I will likely never see again…
With such a short novella, I didn’t expect to be as invested in the characters as I ended up being, which was nice.
I truly love dropping back into this author’s writing with each book, and I love spending time in the haven/Ever world.

Extra erotic monster erotica. Mostly MMF open relationship dynamics that I think ends in a mmmf relationship. It is definitely a light on details novella style.

This story embraces the open relationship details often. Various characters are brought in and out of the steamy scenes. And I found my line, apparently it's centaur erotica, but you never know.

Mostly for fans of offbeat monster erotica, group scenes, fast story, and you don't mind an open relationship dynamic.

What you’ll find in this book:
- MF, MMF and MMMF Scenes
- Childhood Best Friends
- Evil Boss Lady
- She’s a Schemer, They’re Ambitious
- Is it Finally Our Time
- Yes, Let’s Take Him Home Too
- Screw Fate. I Will Always Choose You
- Hurt Comfort to the Max

Honestly, I will shout it from the roof top day or night, I adore Hazel Mack’s books with my whole heart, and the Haven Ever After series is on of my absolute favourites. The cozy small town vibes that Ever provides is expanded on in this book, with new characters that we get to meet and new environments to explore. Oh, and how could I forget this book is sinful in the best possible way, the spice level is dialled all the way up and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Having already read part of this novella in a monster anthology I was ready for the expanded version and boy this did not disappoint.

In this story we follow Valentina, Pietro and Alessandro, and with Pietro and Alessandro being characters we have already met in previous books within the series, I was so excited to read their story. These three characters are mates, but are currently living apart as they follow their dreams separately while still yearning to be together. When an opportunity for Valentina comes up so that she can show off her skills as a Haven designer, she has the opportunity to reunite with Pietro and Alessandro in Ever. Let’s just say after so much time apart things get incredibly heated incredibly quickly and I was here for every single second. Being back together only drives these characters to finally fight to stay together on a permanent basis, and when an opportunity to make improvements at Hearth HQ might mean that these three get to stay together permanently will they be able to achieve their collective dream?

Hazel never disappoints with her characters and these three were no exception, they work together perfectly as a trio, each interaction so tense and loving that it is so easy to become quickly enraptured in this story. The spicy scenes between the three are absolutely incredible, and the freedom that they have when it comes to their desires, their bodies and their willingness to share only brings this up a notch. When Hazel said we were going from MMF to MMMF I didn’t realise she meant in that way by damn was it hot, and of course I wanted more of all of it. I adored how determined Valentina is and how supported she is by both her males, you can feel the love between them and it is magical.

Despite my adoration for Ever, I had a wonderful time exploring Hearth HQ and all of its quirky and sinful locations that we get to explore with these characters, it has set an amazing framework for later books where I can’t wait to explore further. Hazel always sets every scene in the most vivid of ways. As with most novellas the pacing was fast and I wish there was more, but it was short and spicy and positively fabulous. I cannot wait for more of the series already!!

I love this series, but this one fell flat for me. I know it’s a quick novella, but because of that, we didn’t get as much of the three of them together as I would’ve like and then they picked a fourth just in time for the book to end.

Victory for Vampires by Hazel Mack
5 🌟

This was such a fun and sexy little dip into a couple of Ever's regular characters and their mate. Was this book extremely smut-heavy and mainly vibes? Yes. Did I absolutely gobble it up? Yes! This book was the peak of what the Haven Ever After series thrives on - cozy and sexy vibes galore ❤️‍🔥 The bond between Valentina, Pietro and Alé was fantastic and I especially enjoyed how the relationship between the men grew through the story. If you need a spicy lil' read, definitely pick this one up today.

It’s a novella full of smut, not even going to sugar coat it. I knew what I was walking into when I fell for a TikTok video reviewing it. It was enjoyable but nothing out of this world. If you’re trying to meet your reading goals, this is an easy way to do that.

I first read this story back in the My Monster Valentine anthology that was a limited release. It was the last and final story of the anthology. And to be honest, I put off reading this novella because I didn't know if I wanted to pick up the novella when it released. Little to no surprise, this was the exact story released in that anthology. When I first ready this story, I was all for it and just along for the ride. However, after reading this for the second time, I found that this book didn't hit the way a lot of the other stories in this series did. If you were looking for another story that builds up the relationship, skip this novella because this novella is mostly all smut. It lacks any relationship building or anything that's super deep. It feels very surface level for me. On the other side, the steamy scenes were delightful and a good time. Overall, if you're just looking for a steamy, smexy good time then you'll probably enjoy this novella, but if you're looking for the magic and relationship building like a lot of the other books then you're probably not going to enjoy this novella that much.

All thoughts, feelings, experiences, and opinions are honest and my own.

*it natural, almost expected, in vampire culture to take other lovers outside of their mates

This was... mid

I was so confused by the dynamic between the MCs. They’re mates but haven’t seen each other in 8 years while they pursue their own lives. 16 hour journey or not, the not having seen each other doesn’t make sense - it would take me longer to fly to Australia so, while 16 hours is a while, it's not nearly impossible.

The FMC has come to visit the MC's haven (read: town) and isn’t staying with them. She’s asking Pietro (MMC) if it’s okay that Alé (MMC) invited her to dinner. They’re literally all in a relationship???? Pietro is her mate??? HER MATE. Why are they acting like they barely know each other at times and then at others acknowledging that they have a long history??? Also them seeing each other in person for the first time after 8 years is so lack lustre for people I’m meant to believe are mates. The book was unsatisfying because the relationship is established off page and they allegedly have 8 years of history although, you wouldn't know that unless you were told. It feels like this is meant to be some kind of bonus content and, if it is, my bad.

It's not terrible, it just... is 🤷🏽‍♀️

This one is my least favorite of this series. Since it is a novella there was not a lot happening besides a lot of sex. Since the characters already knew each other for centuries there is not a lot of getting to know them. Which was a shame since especially in a story with multiple partners you really need distinct voices. Also I really don't get why they couldn't see each other more often. Like the last time was 8 years ago. They mention the travel time being 16 hours. Like you can find a weekend or something. They were constantly mentioning how they wanted to be toghether but to me it never felt like they would make an efort. Even when they were toghether it was mostly sex which of cours is nice but you need more for a succesfull relationship. And to me it never seemed like they passed that horny first stage. A couple of pages for the end they even add a fourth member, again fine but it felt a bit out of the blue. Another thing was the sex. I was happy to see the two guys getting more involved with each other during the book because it felt really weird that they were part of this threesome without having that physical connection themselves. So that was good. However I am not into open relationships and apparently I really don't like reading sex scenes of people in a relationship with others outside of that relationship how consensual it is. The vampire sex club centaur bit felt really wrong to me. Again this is a preference I have so if this is something you like, great. To me it felt like ok they just saw each other since a long time, they go to this club to have sexy times with each other and.... she's getting railed by a centaur while the boys are watching. Yeah not my thing.

The first book I finished in 2025 wasn't even on my TBR for January. Victory for Vampires is a novella in the Haven Ever After series. In this novella we are following Pietro & Alessandro who we met in passing in previous books and we are introduced to Valentina or at least I'm pretty sure this is the first time we've met her. Anyways according to the description on Goodreads this novella takes place after the events of book 4 but doesn't need to be read in any particular order. There will be some brief mentions of things that have happened in previous books but nothing major. As for this book I did like it but it's not a favorite that coveted spot belongs to Waltzing with Witches which is the 4th book in the series. There are going to be some minor spoilers for this book coming up so if you haven't read this one yet and you're wanting to then please skip this review. My first complaint about this book is how the 2 MMC refer to each other as brothers. We do learn that they aren't actually brothers, but they kept calling each other brother (at least in the first half of the book) and it just kind of irked me. It was also a bit repetitive and felt rushed. I did love the romance, but it took over the story and someone was introduced toward the end of the story and that felt like it came out of nowhere. I guess I would have to say that the sexy times is what kept me reading because I did really enjoy the 3 main characters together so much. If you are the type of person who wants their romance to be more plot and less smut (I hate that word) then this book might not be for you.

✨ Meet Pietro and Alessandro, the passionate owners of Higher Grounds Coffee Shop. While pursuing their dream, they can't help but feel the absence of the one person who means the most to them—their mate, Valentina. A career-driven vampire, Valentina is focused on her ambitions at Hearth HQ. But when an opportunity arises to tour the top havens in the system, she seizes the chance to reconnect with her mates and spend much-needed time together.

In their quest to finally have a home of their own, Valentina must propose a plan that has faced constant roadblocks. More determined than ever, she is resolved to find a way to balance her career with a life shared with her mates.

📚Tropes: Fantasy, MMF/MMMF, Fated Mates, Friends-to-Lovers

✨This was a charming little book focusing on the side characters from the Haven Ever After series. Since it takes place after the fourth book, I’d recommend reading the series in order to avoid spoilers. At first, I was a bit confused by the two main characters being brothers and wondered how that dynamic would work, but it was eventually cleared up. While there wasn't a lot of plot since the characters were mostly reconnecting 😉, it was still an enjoyable read overall. A light, pleasant experience.

Spicy little vampire novella in the Haven Ever After series. The story is stand alone but I would suggest at least reading the first book in the series as the magic system and how Havens work is not explained. There may also be minor spoilers. It was published after Wrestling with Werewolves.

It has MM, MF, MMF, & MMMF scenes. Check trigger warnings if you have sensitivities, this is a polyamorous vampire story after all. It is very spicy, with a variety of scenes.

The plot was engaging, and set up for something potentially new and exciting in the next book. I liked getting to see a new Haven, and learn more about the vampire baristas we’ve seen in other books.

I had a little trouble with the characters' relationships, mostly because I’m impatient and couldn’t imagine being separated for the length of time they were. (And the MMCs call each other brother, which gave me the ick for a bit, but that was cleared up.) Overall a fun read, not my favorite in the series but that is mostly because I loved some of the others so much.

SO I don't normally read poly, but I could never skip a Haven story. While this is my least favorite of the series it is still a great read. Probably the spiciest of the series as well unless it feels that way because there were so many scenes stuffed into 125 pages?

I didn't feel a connection to the main three characters for the majority of this and I think that's because they had already been mated. We start this story with them already in a relationship and I missed that tension that comes with a first meeting and first encounter, but obviously this would not have been a novella then. I also have no recollection of Pietro and Ale's mate from the other books, but maybe if I remembered I wouldn't have felt let down when I started reading.

I was straddling a possible 2 star rating because of the above, but then we met Diavolo and that part of me was sated. I still don't know how I feel reading about more than two in a relationship, but this was a step in the right direction. So looking forward to the next book!

In My Vampire Era

I am so glad we got an extended Vampire story! I loved the Vexing story in the My Monster Valentine Anthology. This was excellent.

I loved getting more about Valentina, Alé, and Pietro's relationship, plus getting all the freaky vampire smut. This book starts with the guys beginning to play with each other and develop more of a relationship.

As mentioned in Waltzing with Witches, vampires are very open sexually, so there are scenes with a fourth partner, one who becomes a regular. So, if you don't like sharing, this might not be for you. Also, the MM scenes are all hj or 0ral, generally light on the details, some fade to black

A breakdown of the scenes:
MM/MMM mostly Pietro and Alé, but there is just Alé with another man briefly, and Alé, Pietro and the other man
MMF our main three
MMFM another man is exclusively with Valentina
MMMF main three plus their regular fourth

This book was for sure like a spoon to shovel spice in. I have loved the “brothers” since we first met them in Ever! So seeing their longtime lover and the story they have to finally physically be together was cute! Definitely heavy handed on the spice!

What I didn’t particularly favor was adding a new character (dark elf named diavolo) to the group in the last like 20 pages. I know this was a novella, so I wasn’t expecting like a fully flushed out thing, but it felt so odd and I couldn’t really connect with everyone anymore :-(

Valentina is hot, alé is hot too, Pietro is even hotter. They took her to a sex club to watch her get railed by a centaur which is something I can’t say I’ve ever read. Usually all the monsters I read in romances are very possessive! The jury is still out to decide if I like it or not LOL. I wish I liked it more because I LOVE Hazel Mack and her books. I think just out of the whole series, this one wasn’t for me.

**Victory for Vampires** follows Valentina, who has been separated from her mates, Alessandro and Pietro, for a long time due to living in another Haven. However, when work brings her back to their city, she intends to enjoy her time with them before returning to her normal life. But this time is different—this time, Pietro and Alessandro won’t let her leave so easily. And so, an idea begins to take shape in her mind…

When it comes to *novelettes*, I never expect something *groundbreaking* or overly ambitious. This story does exactly what it sets out to do—delivers a simple yet captivating romance. The *spice* is heavy in this one, and the scenes are well-written, pushing boundaries even further than the fourth book in the series (which *already* set a high bar).

As for the subplot about the portals, it’s *creative* but gets resolved *way* too easily. I’m curious to see how this event will impact future books in the series.

another good short read from Hazel Mack. i really like how this spin off is relative to the overall series from Mack's Ever Haven series.

Since this one is shorter it did feel a bit rushed and we didn't really get a lot of story itself but that's what makes this read more enjoyable. It was easy for me to speed read the plot and basically just read through the copious amount of smut lmao.

I like the 3 main characters although the vampire thing of taking random 1 nightstands as a group or by yourself was a wild thing to read.

I liked that this tied into existing characters we became familiar with in the main series but tbh I kinda forgot about them and so this was a nice refresher lol

Another thing I really appreciate about this author is that she has been using the same artist to make her covers and I really love the consistent art style that helps give a better mental image to the characters when reading.

Cosy monster erotica.
Valentina, Pietro, and Alé have been in a polygamous long-distance relationship for centuries so that they would be able to achieve their dreams: building havens for magical creatures (Valentina) and running a cosy coffeeshop in Ever (Pietro and Alé).
We follow the trio as they get together for the first time and sparks fly. They're kinky and open to everything. Because they have been romantically involved for centuries, there are no secrets between them, and they communicate in a very healthy manner about where they want the relationship to go. I enjoyed the vibes and lack of angst.

I'd definitely recommend this if you're looking for a standalone novella within an established series - there aren't major spoilers. As mentioned before, this story is more focused on their physical relationship, but there's also a plot.

So Good!

I was really curious as to how this book was going to go, and how I was going to handle it. The first couple of chapters had me weary, not because it was bad writing, because it’s absolutely fantastic writing. I just wasn’t sure if I would be able to handle the dynamic.

This a a story of a throuple that hasn’t been whole, because they weren’t going to give up their dreams for love. I shouldn’t have been worried, Hazel Mack wrote this beautifully. I loved it so much and oooohhhh it was so spicy. But more than anything, I loved how supportive they were of each other, despite how much it hurt them to be separated.

I wish we had a little more with the twist that happened at the end, but still, I loved this book so much.
