Edge Ops #1

Over the Edge

Rate this book
LYRIC

I didn’t come to Monte Carlo for the glamour. I came for the drones.

My first mission with Edge Ops is sink-or-swim–go undercover at a black-market auction and get close to the man selling the most dangerous drone system ever built. Sentinel Mk-IV could change the face of warfare, and I’m the bait meant to lure him into a deal.

No second chances.

And no backup I can trust–just Flynn Shepherd, the cocky pain-in-the-ass who’s more chaos than cover.

FLYNN

They call me when plans go to hell. And let’s be honest, hell’s where the fun starts.

I didn’t mind getting paired with Lyric Renard. She’s sharp, focused, and way too serious for her own good. Which makes getting under her skin the highlight of my day. I'm supposed to protect her while she plays the part of a billionaire buyer. Simple, right?

But nothing about Lyric is simple.

Especially when danger hits close, and I realize I’d burn the whole world down before I let anything happen to her.

Because she isn’t just my op anymore…. she’s my everything.

Live on the edge. Love at your own risk.

The way I couldn’t put this one down?! Absolutely devoured this one. Flynn & Lyric fall fast and hard, and I loved it. They end up on the same mission, and oh Lyric was not happy about it. Lyric was determined to prove herself on a new team, and my heart broke for her not knowing who she is. I was cackling at Flynn pushing her buttons, and completely swooned over his protectiveness. They’re hot, but also work so well together as a team. This one is fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time–I mean the danger they faced?! My jaw was on the ground, like what even was that?! Completely ate it up, and I cannot wait for more!!

This one should have been an easy read for me, one done in 3-4 hours. Instead I was bored and in 1 1/2 hours I made it 15%. It felt like I was missing something, like maybe this was spun off a different series/book. There was a dead characters that left big shoes to fill, which seemed odd. Then there was Flynn and Lyric. Lyric was slightly like able, but also seemed like she turned on and off different aspects of her personality. I'm sure it was due to her being a spy for so long, but it was unsettling. Flynn came off as thinking he was the best thing since sliced bread, a big turn off. This one just wasn't for me.

I absolutely loved this book! If I could give it a 10 I would. I loved the intrigue and suspense. The characters were spicy hot while being vulnerable. The story was fast paced and full of action at the some time grabbed your heart. I’m so looking forward to reading the stories of the rest of the team.

Lyric and Flynn’s chemistry is fabulous - feels authentic and makes you want more. I couldn’t put this book down. The Lone Wolf agent Flynn takes agent Lyric on as her “body guard” and they both get more than they originally imagined. I felt like I was inside of an action movie while reading this one!!

Action packed, high suspense, and the perfect amount of romance : the chefs kiss trifecta for a book! Highly recommend diving into the Edge Ops!🌶️🌶️🌶️

Over the Edge is the first book in a new series that's kept me glued to my Kindle. It's got the typical action you've come to expect from this great author.

Lyric Renard aka Siren is new to the team and even though she's an experienced ex-Cia operative she still feels like she needs to prove her worth to the team. When she's sent on a mission to infiltrate and get closer to an arms dealer who's auctioning a dangerous weapon, she gives it her all. Imagine her surprise and anger when suddenly her team leader Ethan decides to give her a back up.

Enter Flynn Shepherd aka Outlaw, he's a freelancer who always works alone but makes an exception when Ethan calls upon him to team up with Lyric. He loves nothing better than getting her all riled up but also admires her strength and resilience.

Both have sworn of love, vowed not to get close to anyone but feelings can't be denied and when things get dangerous both will do anything in their power to keep the other safe.

I loved this first entry in the Edge Ops series. Right from the start there's action that keeps you on the edge of your seat and enough heat to melt the pages. The banter between the team members was hilarious at times and I can't wait to read their stories.

>Good romance and suspense

Over the Edge is the first book in Tonya Burrows’s new series, Edge Ops. This was my first time reading this author, and I was pleasantly surprised.

Ex-CIA agent Lyric Renard is working undercover on her first assignment with a new team—Edge Ops—when Flynn Shepherd crashes onto the scene as her backup. Lyric is unimpressed; she’s used to working solo and finds Flynn too cocky, too arrogant. Still, the chemistry between them is undeniable. Flynn, also accustomed to flying solo, discovers he enjoys working with Lyric. But Lyric is under pressure: she needs to close this mission successfully to prove to her new team that she’s capable of filling her predecessor’s shoes. Although they fall for each other, both carry emotional baggage. And with Moreau actively trying to kill them, they have more than a few obstacles to overcome before they can complete the mission and reach their HEA.
Flynn fell first, and he fell hard. I liked his determination and alpha energy. Though he’s used to working alone, he showed up when Lyric needed him. He had his own baggage, but that was resolved quickly enough.

I liked Lyric for the most part. She’s a strong FMC with a backbone. What didn’t sit well with me was her insistence that she’d sleep with Moreau if the job required it—even after she’d already gotten together with Flynn. This is just me, but I felt her moral compass was somewhat skewed. That, and her—let’s call a spade a spade—cruelty toward Flynn when he declared his love, put me off her a bit. She made the mission her top priority, which spoke to something missing in her life. I have no issue with that but hurting others because you’re broken doesn’t sit well with me.

The suspense was solid, but the last few chapters fell a bit flat. They were unnecessarily angst-filled and didn’t feel like part of the same book. Lyric’s trauma at the hands of Moreau felt like a plot device meant to deepen reader investment in the romance. For me, that wasn’t necessary—I already liked the characters and their dynamic. The almost-dark turn at the end just felt off.

There were some proofing issues and a few logical inconsistencies, but overall, the writing was strong. Book one offered a solid introduction to the Edge Ops team, and I’m especially curious to read Ethan’s story once it’s written. I rate this one 3.5 rounded off to a 4.

Fabulous and original. We don't often get to see the point of view ofa new member coming to complete a team after a loss... Lyric is a talented agent but she wants more...so when the opportunity to join Edge Ops arise it seems to be a good opportunity but if a slot is open it's because they lost a favourite member of their team.... Lyric must complete the mission despite the comments, despite the endless comparaisons and thetension from other team members. It was interesting to read and i loved that the complexity of the situation was so well described.

Flynn got called on the mission in last minute to partner with Lyric and he is not surprised to discover she was left in the dark. He know the team well even if he is not part of it he worked with the others before so it's easy for him to understand how unfair the situation, is the fact he is not immune to Lyric's charms add in his will to protect her...especially when the target is so dangerous. He failed once in the past but this time echec is not permitted

Really Lyric and Flynn's dynamic was perfect, they both hide their weakness by taking risk and other personna but deep down they want to be see and accepted. They are great togeter ( and destructive for sure).

The story was really well built, tension high, romance and some funny moments as well i loved it since page 1 and i can't wait to read more about the team

a new series to discover without hesitation

The very first book by Tonya that I read was Seal of Honor. After finishing that, I was done for. I became, am until this day and will always be a huge fan of every single book Tonya gifts us with.

The HORNET books, being my first TB series, will always have a special place in my heart.
That's why I am beyond thrilled we are finally back in the high stakes and fast paced world of spies, agents and black ops that only Tonya Burrows can create. She makes you feel a part of the team. Every high, every low, you feel it alongside those amazing characters.

Over the Edge is a picture perfect example of that brilliance.

With every little glimpse of the Edge Black Ops team in the last couple of books of the Redwood Coast Rescue series my excitement and absolute NEED to see more of those guys kept growing.

Finally having Over the Edge on my Kindle I was close to BURSTING. I basically dropped everything and jumped right in. I can't tell you enough how much I loved EVERY. SINGLE. PAGE.

Lyric and Flynn? To die for and giving a new meaning to 'debriefing'.
Their story? I hope the edge of your seat is comfortable.
The team? Better make space for your new book boyfriends.

I can't even with this one.

I've never meant it more than now when I say, you are missing out if you do not read Over the Edge.

Somehow I missed this when it came out, so I read it right after finishing book 2 ( Edge of Control )...oops!

Just as edge of your seat-ish as the second book, even though it has a whole different vibe to it...not going to lie, though--knowing that everyone would be safe and sound when the second book started and that Flynn and Lyric would be an established couple got me through some really stressful spots here.

Personality-wise Lyric and Flynn are very much an opposites attract relationship, though their individual circumstances have both of them feeling like they can't be/don't deserve to be a part of a group, which makes them more similar than they want to admit. They both had heartbreaking backstories, which made everything all the more meaningful when they were able to let their pasts go in the end to not only be a couple, but to be a part of the Edge Ops team.

Naturally this ended with a bit of a cliffhanger (for the team and the hero of the next book, not for our MCs here) that will take us into the next book, but I've already read that one so my blood pressure was safe ;)

Rating: 4 1/2 stars / A

"This is me choosing a future instead of running from the past"

Lyric and Flynn break my heart, they are both so emotionally frozen, avoiding anything personal, because then you cannot be crushed by grief, loss or guilt. But they are merely existing, going through the motions of life without actually living it.
They have become lone wolves so that they don't endanger a team, single operatives who don't have to worry about anyone else. They have such a lonely existence weighed down by grief and guilt.
But this op brings them together in a way they cannot avoid, the chemistry they have is more than explosive, it's all consuming and undeniable, it's also terrifying for two people who are so emotionally crippled.
This is an explosive and fast moving start to the series, we are introduced to a fractured and grieving team who are struggling to find their new normal, their way through each day after losing one of their own. This case both brings back the loss but also increases the determination to finish what Maya started, to complete her work and honour her.
A fantastic read, I look forward to more from this team of slightly crazy and kamikazi operatives. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

I am soooooooo excited for this new series and the author doesn’t disappoint with the first book in Edge Ops with Lyric and Flynn. Lyric is deep undercover and new to the team after the death of one of their own, Maya. She’s working solo until Flynn crashes in, in the middle of the op. She doesn’t want a babysitter, needing to prove to the team that she is an excellent agent. Flynn works alone, no team unless Ethan, the team lead, needs his assistance and he’s not complaining to be working with Lyric as she wakens up a part of him he thought was dead. In close proximity, the two can’t fight the attraction but Lyric is holding back, her past has her hostage. The stakes are high, the two are caught in the crossfire and they will both need all of their expert training to survive.
An amazing read I couldn’t put down, suspense, steam, action and great characters all around. The story flowed beautifully w/o skipping a beat and the descriptions were spot on. I LOVED both Flynn and Lyric, tough, independent and vulnerable but only with each other….LOVED IT!!

Review to followI can picture this amazing story making a wonderful movie. Ms. Burrows describes all the views and all the action so well that it is like being there watching it all somehow. Lyric and Flynn (excellent names, by the way) are thrown together in an undercover operation that goes a bit sideways and eventually includes the whole Edge Ops team. Both of them are "outsiders" - she is newly hired and he is something of a loner operative. Their personal chemistry is incredible. and presents some distraction to their work, but they are  truly professional and get the work done (in between some wildly entertaining personal time...). Ms. Burrows has a great imagination, and includes some wild fictional weapons and a really creepy bad guy. This story was a real page turner for me, and I can't wait to read more in this new series.
I was given an ARC by the author and volunteered to write a review.

This is a spin off of another series, but it is not a necessary prerequisite to enjoy this book. Lyric is a former CIA undercover on operative on loan filling in for Maya who was previously killed. Flynn is another operative who freelances and is called in to assist.... An arms dealer has some very new dangerous tech that is going to the highest bidder. Lyric is the new bored heiress who wants to purchase the tech and Flynn will pose as her bodyguard.

It is filled with no stop action and of course lots of chemistry between Lyric and Flynn. This book is a must read for the summer.. lots of heat and action. Who could ask for more?

I was furnished with an ARC copy from Ms. Burrows and her publisher. All comments are my own.

I bought this book because I had enjoyed the previous 2 series that I read. Unfortunately I did not read the blurb. It was a shock to open the book and realize that it was written in first person, which I detest. Why did the author change the way to present a book?

Since I skipped most of the book, I can't give a true review. I made it through 3 chapters then skipped to the last 3 chapters. The book was not for me. I have no plans to read the rest of the series. Unless the author goes back to third person, I have no plans to read anymore of her books. I have dropped 3 other authors in the past few months because they have changed from 3rd person to 1st person. I know this is a quirk of mine as others do like 1st person. I am okay with that as we all like different things.

Talk about starting a new series off with a bang! I loved these characters and this story so much! Flynn and Lyric have such incredible chemistry and are both bada$$es in their own right. Lyric is beautiful and smart and a great agent, yet she is still a bit vulnerable, and I love her. And Flynn, he is just 100% ultimate sexy bada$$, and I just adore him! Together they are pure fire!
I was hooked from the very beginning and held on tight until the end of this action packed book. It is full of suspense, steamy goodness and heart! I loved it!
Can’t wait for more in this new series by Tonya Burrows.

Over the Edge is the first book in the Edge Ops series, and it is steamy and suspenseful. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Flynn and Lyric’s book. What happens when two loan wolf operatives team up? A lot of interesting twists to the mission happen. Tonya burrows always makes it a lively journey. Lyric is furious when the team leader sends Flynn in as her backup. He makes quite the entrance too. Lyric is fighting to earn trust and her place in the team. She certainly doesn’t need Flynn messing up her op. The sexual tension between them is high. As the danger increases so do their feelings. I couldn’t out the book down.

Lyric has been sent on a job by Edge Ops to go too Monte Carlo. Her mission is to find out and get herself into the black market auction. The auction is selling weaponised drones.
Flynn has been sent by Edge Ops to keep Lyric alive and safe. He can’t help but feel protective of the independent and stubborn woman. Lyric wants to prove she can do it all by herself. With danger and enemies closing in the two find common ground.
Lyric and Flynn know have learn to trust each other, at the same time fight the strong attraction that is growing stronger.
Things heat up between, while fighting side by side.

Action, drama. Romance and spice.

New series and I’m loving it.
Lyrics trying to find her place in the Edge Ops team, and doesn’t appreciate Flynn when he first buts into her op. Both fight the chemistry between them, but the hardened Flynn is the first to admit to his feelings.
This read has plenty of action, great characters and a villain you can’t help but despise. Taking place in Monaco and Monte Carlo, places I’ve visited. I enjoyed the descriptions of the locations I’d been to.
Roll on Nov and Trent’s story.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. Lyric and Flynn meet on a rather unusual occasion- namely him crashing her meeting that might just turn sideways and escorting her out of danger. Little did they know, what was in store for them. With each other and what the guy they just left is capable of.
A fast paced story, that is remotely connected to the authors Redwood Coast Rescue- series that only recently concluded. Anyway, great start of a new series, though it entailed a lot of technical stuff that had me scratch my head every now and then.

New series and it's going to be a good one. Lyric is new to the team and she's trying to fit in when she's given a job to go to Monte Caarlo to find and get an invite to the auction that's selling black market weapons. Flynn, who is a freelance operator, is sent in to help protect her. Let's just say she is not happy about it. There is a constant battle between them but, also a chemistry that can't be denied. There's action, suspense and danger.

New series, snarky banter, ex-military, ex-cia, steamy, fast paced with deep emotional moments, he falls first. Lyric is trying so hard to fit in with EDGE. First mission. Achieve by any means. At the last minute they bring in back up, lone wolf Flynn. Matches - Wood - Ignition. Over the Edge will keep you flipping pages and hitting all the emotions. Thank you for the advanced copy. An emotional, page turning story! Lyric is trying to prove herself on her new team. She desperately wants to fit in and prove to them she belongs on this team. She goes deep undercover on a dangerous mission and cannot afford any distractions. But then Flynn joins the mission and Flynn is definitely a distraction. Their attraction is instantaneous and combustible. An action packed, suspenseful, page-turning story that will keep you reading well into the night.

Get tipped over the edge as action, suspense, excitement, danger & emotions come at you from all sides. Flynn absolutely sends shivers down with his Alpha possessiveness. The snark & banter has you laughing hysterically. Lyric has you feeling angry for her & fustrated at her stubbornness. When things heat up in the bedroom & battlefield, you are on edge! Brilliant

As the first book in a new series, this one came out swinging. There was action(intense action), emotions(a roller-coaster of them) and steam. Lyric was new to the group, so we got to get to know them with her. Flynn was a little arrogant, a lot protective and understood Lyric perfectly. I am looking forward to more books in the series.

Good once it got to about 72% in the book.

Loved Redwood rescue books, so was a little disappointed in this first one of a new series.
I like a build up of tension in a relationship but it was straight in from the word go. No enjoyable storyline until about 72% in. Then it was great and stayed that way.
Fingers crossed for the next one.

Intense

I generally devour Tonya’s books but I had a hard time committing to this one. I think because the undercover trope isn’t my favorite. The writing is good as is the pacing. The characters are developed from stereotypical starts to real people. The last third of the book was great. I’ll definitely read the next book.

I don't know why I didn't like this book very much and, honestly, did not finish. I've enjoyed other series by the author but gave up at about half-way through the book. I didn't like either of the characters and felt the plot dragged.

To understand parts of the plot you need to first have read the incomplete Redwood Coast series.
