The Cottage Café

Rate this book
She’s 70 years old and about to experience the best autumn of her life…

Monica, who just celebrated her 70th birthday is spending the fall with her daughter’s family off the coast of Maine.

Since her husband died 10 years ago, she’s given up all hope of a new happily ever after and tells herself she’s content just being grandma to two beautiful boys.

The thing is Monica’s always had a secret passion for baking and business. A passion she never got to pursue as a wife and mother. So when she sees a job opening in the local cottage cafe, she jumps at the chance. Impressed by her pastry skills, the owner offers Monica a chance to shine in the kitchen.

Over the moon with this new lease of life, Monica’s happiness is short-lived when she finds out that hotel developers are threatening to buy out the local cafe.

Then, when Monica finds a notebook left behind in the cafe one evening, she discovers inside it the story of Benjamin, a once-famous local sculptor who is grieving his late wife. The cottage cafe was her favorite place to be too. As Monica delves into the history of the town, she realizes just how pivotal the cafe has been to the people who live here through the years.

Intrigued, Monica sets out to make friends with the reclusive and crotchety Benjamin, who just so happens to be the only man who can save the cafe from its fate.

A reminder of the importance of friendship, love, neighbors, and reaching out to those around you. Spend a hopefull fall with Monica and Benjamin as they embark on an unlikely romance and band together to save the beloved local cafe from going under.

This contemporary sweet clean starting over, second chance romance in this Christian inspirational women's fiction is page-turning with exceptional world-building in Maine with magnificent sunrise/sunsets that are vibrantly painted across the sky, and characters that are witty, independent, captivating, and realistic. Their journey is enthralling with the cottage cafe, friendship, love, an easy summer, beach town, mystery, later in life, drama heartfelt emotions that will have readers needing Kleenex/Puffs to wipe the tears that are threatening to spill down their cheeks, secrets, suspense, Monica sets out to make friends with the reclusive and crotchety Benjamin, who just so happens to be the only man who can save the cafe from its fate, an unlikely romance that will save the beloved cafe from going under, action, adventure, and more. I recommend reading this book by an extraordinary author who knows how to captivate her readers' hearts and attention with the cottage cafe and a second chance romance that is sure to transport readers into a world that is sweet and unforgettable.

If It’s Not Broke, How Do You Fix It?

As the suspense builds so do the questions. Does Benjamin really own the land where Donnie’s restaurant sits? If so, why doesn’t he know that?

Lydia learns the mayor’s decision. Now where does that leave Lydia? Was Steven Sinclair, the mayor’s son, up to his eyeballs in the mayor’s decision? I must say I feel kind of sorry for Steven. He has no idea who he’s up against. LOL, he now has Monica hot on his trail. I’m guessing his shady ways will come to light.

And remember those New York City high rollers? What is their scheming really about? Do they want more than the land where Donnie’s restaurant sits? Can they get the City Council to go along with them? I have to wonder what role Steven will play? And is his mother, the mayor, fooling everyone? How will all the corruption going on in Caloosaport come to light… or will it?

I must wonder just why the lawyer working on the land trust refused to tell Ben anything since Ben actually was the legal owner. When Ben and Monica showed up at the law office the first time, he was told it was a private matter that only could be told to the land owner. This second visit was very different from the first one.

Just what tricks does Andrea have up her sleeve? Do those city slickers have any idea who they are up against?

Can Monica and Benjamin move on from friendship to see how they fill each other’s needs? Can romance be lingering close by?

Ouch…. What on earth happened between Donnie and Andy?.

Benjamin asks Monica to go with him to the attorneys and she agrees. It is nice that they have an afternoon to just drive and then meet to find out more details.
On the drive home Benjamin asks if Monica would like to see the town that he grew up in. Surprisingly it is very much like the small town that they are trying to save. In the meantime her daughter is going through some things and Monica feels responsible. Her daughter decides to work at the restaurant too and then figure out what is going on and maybe starting her own business.
Benjamin and Monica spend a lovely time in his old stomping grounds and even meets up with one of his old friends. As all this is happening Monica realizes that she is really starting to have feelings for Benjamin and at 70 wonders if this is something that should be happening. It should you are just never to old to fall in love and find your soulmate thus spending the rest of your life with someone.

This series is getting better and better! Monica and Benjamin are attracted to each other but since they are 70 year olds they are very tentative about more than friendship. Monica’s daughter has some difficult decisions to make. How is Donnie going to handle what he has learned? Is the mayor as innocent as some townspeople think?? Still more questions that need answers. Hurry up last book to answer my questions and provide closure!!.

What will the board decide and will it be on the side of the citizens or the side of deep pocket and slimy developers? Will the lawyers of the trust do their part and intervene so that the town does not lose its precious town to developers? If things go well and the board does the right, moral, and ethical decision, what will Benjamin do about his land? I am on pins and needles praying for this town and it's people. I hope they stick it to Steohen and his slimy partners.

Finally we are starting to understand the truth as to who owns the land the cafe is on. Why it was kept hidden we might never know but we are starting to get some answers that have been with us since book 1. We still need to learn the truth regarding Steven and the council but the next book promises to be very explosive and I am so glad I am along for the ride. Can’t wait for the next book.

Good story

Widowed mother visiting family in another town... good characters as she begins new friendships and attempts to untangle a mystery. These books are SHORT and should've been combined for a longer smoother read.
