So I really liked this story. I normally wouldn't read a book that in the middle of a series but this one was part of the "Box of 1Night Stands." I think being part of a series it would've been beneficial to have read the previous books in the Sleepy Hallow Series prior to this one. Then many of the terms and characters would've made more sense. Either way I actually liked this book. Nice fast read and the characters were very likable. I think the name Spook is corny and Genny's full name is much prettier then the nickname. This book and probably the entire series had potential to be a full novel but the author did great at squeezing everything in this short story. I honestly want to read the other Sleepy Hollow books just to hear the other characters stories.
Regardless I like the connection between Spokane and Genny. They click before the even meet. I love that all these books are novela's with a HEA.
It was hard to rate this short story as it's actual part of two different series. It is part of the 1Night Stand series and also part 5 of The Sleepy Hollow series within the 1Night Stand series. I know confusing right?? This short story might have made more sense if I had of read the first 4 parts in The Sleepy Hollow series. I would have identified with previous characters mentioned in this part and also what was going ie. what a demon was/is, what a WOW is, what whiffing is etc. etc. All in all it was a quick enjoyable read. I just recommend you read the first four parts first to better understand this installment in the series.
My Rating: B, Liked It Originally posted at That's What I'm Talking About Review copy provided by author.
Spokane Raines (Spook) is an undercover agent with mysterious group called The Company. He has no recollection of his past (and doesn’t know he’s a demon). Lately, the daily bump and grind of his spy life is wearing thin and he wants out. After seeing a photo of famous artist Max Raines and reaching out to Max via email, he finds out that he may have family in Sleepy Hollow.
Geneviève Mortimer (Genny) is a WOW - wil-o’-the-wisp working for POLO - Protector of the Legion of Shadows. She can lure evil demons with her inner light and send them to their death. Her parents were killed by demons, so she has no love for them, although she does have demon friends in Sleepy Hollow. Her latest target is Spook, but is immediately attracted to him with overpowering lust and cannot kill him. Leave it to Madame Eve to work her magic and put the two together for a 1Night Stand date.
In From the Cold is the latest 1Night Stand novella from the Sleepy Hollow series. The series features loosely related paranormal creatures with ties to Sleepy Hollow, each finding true love via the 1Night Stand agency. While In From the Cold can be read as a stand alone, a large part of the story wraps up some loose ends from prior stories.
I liked both characters, and together they have some great chemistry. Spook has fun, sarcastic humor, which had me laughing more than once. After the pair finally gets together, Spook turns extremely protective, which is part of the mating consequences, but his need to immediately go seek vengeance on Genny’s behalf without knowing anything about demons is a bit rash. It was such a drastic turn of events, I felt like I needed a little lead up to it.
The part of the story which brings together bits from prior novellas, as well as the backstory to why Genny’s parents died was confusing for me, with the introduction of too many new names. I did like that the author created closure for the couple, but I wish it had been better integrated into the story. Unfortunately, there is only so much one can do in a limited space.
In the end, I enjoyed In From the Cold. The ending is silly and cute, leaving me on a high note. The story is a good addition to the series, although it may suffer a little because of the limited space. Spook and Genny are sexy and hot, with some well-written, lusty smex scenes. It’s a fun read for a hot afternoon at the beach!
This is a first for me. This is an average rating. I just didn’t know how to rate this one.
In From the cold is book five (5) in the Sleepy Hollow series, but is also tied into Decadent’s 1NS series.
In From the Cold actually seemed to take a different twist from the normal 1NS. Spook and Genny met prior to their one night stand, but neither were fully committed to going on a date. Once they meet, things changed quickly. What was different was the morning after. It seemed to then pull in the Sleepy Hollow series at that point. Wrapping up loose ends that I didn’t even know existed.
That is where I had my problem. When the other past characters and the wrap-up were included, I got lost. I haven’t read any in the series yet. While they have been on my mind to read them, because I love 1NS, I haven’t been able to find the time. I think if I had read the other books in the series, I would be rating this story higher, but since I have no back ground into the other couples and they play a part in the story, my rating is lower.
In From the Cold is still a great little story. Both characters are ready for the next phase in their lives and Madame Eve is right there to help them. Their attraction is smoking hot and definitely draws you in. When I read their initial meeting I knew things were going to be combustible and I was right. Wow, Spook blew my mind.
But again since I didn’t have the history, I was left wondering about Sleepy Hollow, what the heck is a fire demon, who are these family/friends/lovers and then add the confusion of their history. So for lovers of the Sleepy Hollow series, I can easily give this story a 4.5. Since Ms. Kincaid seemed to clear up some lingering questions and the supporting case was rather fun to read about. As a standalone, I would give it a 3.5. So if you are following along with my crazy review, In From the Cold gets an average, 4 Hearts.
I have to admit I have a soft spot for these Sleepy Hollow Books. I live in the Hudson Valley not far from Sleepy Hollow, the mystery of the Catskills and all the legends draw me to all stories set in this gorgeous area of NY State.
None have captured me more than Ms. Kincaid’s. I was delighted when she said in an interview that she got a lot of her inspiration while driving up and down the NYS Thruway for her other than author job. The Thruway can be long and boring but the scenery is fantastic and if it’s snowing, scary as Hell. But enough about that and on to the book!!!
OMG! Hot, Hot and Hotter! Spook Raines is as hot as Max and Byrne but has no idea he’s a demon and caught by surprise by a Will o’ the Wisp Genevieve who hunts demons, well that is just the most interesting connection our darling Madame Eve could make for a one night stand. Their date on a yacht in the Hudson River is … well let me just say I am still sweating. I need a very cold shower about now.
Aside from being a sizzling read, we get to see the other Raines in this one. Loved seeing them again and those glimpses were not without heat themselves!
GO! Buy the books! All of them!!! They bring the mystery of the Hudson Valley to life in ways you could never imagine on your own!
Another sexy read set in the world of Sleepy Hollow where the fire-sex demons are smokin' and their lady friends like the heat. Literally, in some cases.
Spook and Genny have some issues to work around before they can do the relationship thing. Spook doesn't know who he is and Genny is denying she's the very thing she hunts. Of the two, Spook's story got to me hard. He's completely cut off from his demon side and has no idea he's not alone in the world. I'd imagine that going through breedspawn when you don't know what that is or what to expect would be awful.
No worries, folks! Madame Eve steps in and hooks these two lost souls up. Yep, they steam up the sheets something fierce. We get answers to the Raines boys past and... did I mention the sex? Because fire-sex demons can BRING IT. Often. And with lots of dedication.
Who doesn't like demons dedicated to hardcore pleasure? NO ONE, THAT'S WHO!
I have not read the other books in this series but if the other books are as HOT as this one, then I can't wait to read them.
Genny is what they call a will o'the wisp and Spook is a very overworked spy who is a demon but doesn't connect with his demon side. He feels like he is alone and he needs to figure out somethings. Genny hunts demons but she doesn't want to believe she is one. Both of these characters are easy to love and when they get together and have sex, there is steam coming off the pages (screen from my tablet). That's one thing they can do great together.
I was a little lost at first from not reading the other books but with the help of the author, I really wasn't lost for long. The author brought answers to all the questions I had and I can't wait to read the ones before this one and whatever ones come after this one. I will just have to keep a towel handy to wipe off my screen from so much steam from the sex scenes.
I liked the chemistry between Spook and Genny. I enjoyed how everyone related and the cameos from previous Sleepy Hollow books. However, the history reveal was rushed and confused me greatly. While I enjoyed it, I overall just found it a little messy and fluffy. I expected more conflict and there just wasn’t.
In from the Cold is a sweet story of overcoming your past and finding happiness through love and family. Don’t miss out on this steamy read!

I read this as part of a box set and had no idea it was part of a series. This isn't my usual genre but I did enjoy the story and will probably read some more of the series at some point.
